This is def. one of the cutest stores in the city. Even though it is small if is packed wall to wall with tons of adorable items to buy. If this place was bigger I bet everyone from Kid Robot would flock here. Similar to Kid Robot it has the same familiar characters. This store has become my new favorite because of the few bins on the floor filled with numerous adorable stuffed animals. I could not resist buying this little 5-6in stuffed 'Joe the Egg' character. Awesome on the Lower East Side. This store has rare and one of a kind vinyls. Even some vinyls that I have only seen online and not in any other store in the city.It's the only shop of it's kind in the area. It's a bit small, but they maximize the space very well. I still think buying Vinyl Toys is a bit expensive... When they are blind boxed and are selling at an average of $10. I would buy a a larger statue for my desk at the office or my apartment. read more

A good host of toys to choose from. A great place to pick up some offbeat characters. These are more one pose figures. Don't expect to find any fully articulated items here, but do expect to find some serious cute and adorable items (snagges one for myself to take photos of on trips). Plus they have Megaman key chains! Overall, great for a gift or knickknack. read more

this place is pretty awesome. i think it's the best art toy store i've been to ever so far. the store is kinda small but they've lined the walls with so many awesome toys and blind boxes. and they still found room for some awesome art showings. the current show chris ryniak had some really nice sculptures and paintings but everything was sold out! the people were super nice and helpful. plus, you could tell they love the toys they sell with all the cases full of toys they didn't want to part with. they still remembered the names of the unavailable toys, which is pretty amazing considering how much they had collected in their glass cases. so now, i can look the ones i wanted online =). if you like vinyl, wooden toys or plushes, this would be one of my top places to browse. read more

myplasticheart has introduced me to Mr. Toast and Shawnimals+Ninjatown. And I'm so glad they did :D I ordered something off their site recently, and was able to pick it up in the store. I totally appreciate this option since my local post office is horrible. But that's another review in itself. Moving on. I've never been there but I've ordered from them a number of times. They have a great selection of Urban Vinyl and Designer Toys. Most of the times i've ordered is because they are the "official tokyoplastic online shop" (btw, if you've never checked out www.tokyoplastic.com before - do it!) and they usually get their limited edition figures before anyone else. If you are into the vinyl and the toys, this is like a mom-and-pop store compared to all the slick ones around town. friendly people, supporting the art and decent prices for the consumers. it took me a few failed attempts to get here - they had some weird hours and are in a funky neighborhood. read more

My Plastic Heart has everything you'd want from a vinyl toy store. Typically, non-chain stores only have a couple really expensive pieces and a lot of affordable junk. My Plastic Heart is brimming with toys of all price ranges and they're all fantastic. Really, the best of the best stuff. In addition to rare and current items there are also a good amount of 5-10 year old vinyls that you might have wanted at the time but ultimately have missed out on. I don't believe you can have too much of a good thing, so I wish this place was bigger. read more

This place PWNS (yes I said pwns) Kid Robot. For one its infinitely less crowded (which is good as its a lot smaller) and its selection is much much better. the owners are cool and you can tell they are into it as much as you are. they always have good music on and the art they get for display/gallery type shows is usually top notch. So if you like vinyl and hate crowds come here you'll thank me later. read more

Wish there were more great stores like this. But MPH and Toy Tokyo combined are nearly enough to satiate all of the design toy universe for New Yorkers. Would love to see more Medicom offerings though. read more

Cute little Japanese toy store with a wall of blind boxes, some toys on display, and a small selection of well-chosen other items. Worth stopping by if you're in the neighborhood, but if you're making a special trip, I'd go to Kinokuniya or Toy Tokyo for more bang for your buck. read more

A great alternative to toy Tokyo (esp if you / your Tweens) like blind box items. Not the largest selection but the owners are knowledgeable, affable and have a really cute dog. Completely chaos free experience that is great for those who are indecisive / completely overwhelmed at Toy Tokyo. read more

Terrible for online purchasers. First of all, they have this google review crap on their website that messes up the order forms when you hit submit. Also, they have dead links on their website. That should have clued me in immediately to not order through them. But the meat of the issue was that they addressed my package incorrectly (wrong name and address!) and though they did go out of their way to retrieve the package, they did not offer to correct the address through USPS, which is something I know can be done. I clicked the button that said shipping address same as billing address. They then claimed that the problem was on my end and said I filled out the form incorrectly, leading to an incorrect address on the package. I got billed just fine, so why did the wrong address end up on the package? After they retrieved the package, since they had the inventory back in hand, I asked if a refund would be possible because I just didn't want to mess with the purchase anymore. They then turned rude and basically said no refunds, store credit only. Why do I want store credit for a store I will never shop from again? I had to pay a second time for shipping for their mistake. So I am now directing all my friends to purchase from Strange Cat Toys. Just try being polite to people for Pete's sake! Perhaps they are nicer in person, but I know my experience sucked. read more

The store is small and you probably won't see it unless you're within 20 feet but once you're inside, you'll be surprised by the amount of stuff on display. The store is packed! Every wall and corner is crawling with vinyl goodness, magazines, plush, and whatever your inner art child desires. read more

Super friendly staff who helped me while I was shopping for my daughter's birthday via Facetime. She is big into Tokidoki and they had a nice selection of plush and vinyl to choose from. Even if your not into designer toys you will love the collection that they have there. They have a wide variety and a good representation of what is out right now. The shop owners are friendly and very knowledgeable. They are happy to help you find something along the lines of your taste. Even after purchasing cases of Dunny's the kids at Kid Robot rather pose than offer any help. You'll get better service at MPH even if you are just looking. read more
