Charlotte Douglas International Airport - CLT

Charlotte Douglas International Airport - CLT

As someone who travels frequently for work and genuinely enjoys airports, Charlotte Douglas has…read morebecome my home airport. Like any major hub, it has its strengths and its growing pains. The biggest challenge is the ongoing construction. It seems like every time I fly through CLT, another section is under renovation. Hopefully the finished product will be worth the wait. Until then, give yourself extra time. If you're flying out of gates in Terminal E, or connecting between A, C, and E, be prepared for a serious walk. Thirty minutes isn't out of the question depending on your gate assignment. The moving walkways also seem to be out of service more often than they're working, which makes those long walks feel even longer. That said, there are some big improvements. The new TSA PreCheck checkpoint near Door 3 has been a game changer. If you're enrolled in TSA's Touchless ID program, the process is incredibly fast. No digging for your driver's license--just walk through using facial recognition, and you're on your way. It's one of the smoothest security experiences I've had. Despite the construction, the airport offers plenty of dining and shopping options, and the staff I've encountered have generally been helpful. CLT is also one of the busiest hubs in the country, so a little patience goes a long way. It's not my favorite airport in the world, but it's an efficient gateway to almost anywhere you want to go. Plan ahead, wear comfortable shoes, and build in a little extra time for the walk. The world is a big place. Go see it.

Charlotte Douglas has become another aging U.S. airport that has long since outgrown the number of…read morepassengers it was designed to handle. As a major American Airlines hub, it suffers from constant congestion, especially during peak travel periods. The waiting areas are bursting at the seams, forcing passengers to become "gate lice" because there's simply nowhere else to sit. The iconic rocking chairs scattered throughout the concourses are a charming Southern touch, but they aren't enough to redeem the overall experience. The retail selection is uninspired, and the food and beverage options are equally lackluster. Perhaps there's a newer or better terminal I didn't see, but based on my experience in Concourses C and D, CLT is an airport I get through rather than one I enjoy spending time in.

At check in, told the elevator was out of order. Great! Just returned from 3 weeks in Europe so have to schlep all my suitcases up two flights via an exterior stairway. Exterior door has no lock so anybody could enter the hallways. A lot of crap outside entrance way. Room basically OK but strong chemical Odor. A/c LOUD. my flight was too early to experience the breakfast. I will say the bathroom had nice toiletries. Crummy neighborhood but if you so stay here, eat at McCoy's BBQ nearby. Good stuff.

The two clerks are cold heartless unpleasant anthropids and If Best Weather people like money they should at least put this two people in a basic costumer service training. I advise to use the rip off money to pay extra to the cleaning personnel they sure do a good job. Btw: they put me in the top Floor while the elevator is OUT OF SERVICE.

The only thing that was a little set back was that it didn't offer a hot tub or pool. The lounge and bar -Sophia's was beautiful with unique decor also that all fit together perfectly with the hotel. The bed and room was very comfortable with plenty of room to rest and recuperate after our busy days in town. I would recommend this location to anyone staying in the area. So close to many restaurants and event areas or just to walk around town.

The only bummer upon check in was learning that the elevator was broken. My suitcase was a bit on the heavy side, as this was the front end of a week long North Carolina road trip. They delivered it, but it was still annoying. I loved the staff at Sophia's. They were so friendly. For sure stop in there for a cocktail. The room was comfortable. I love the funky side tables. We did complain about a certain smoky smell, the issue was addressed immediately. We were promised a credit that never materialized. When we checked out, we were offered bag service again (elevator still down), that also did not come to pass. We figured out that the same guy that was running the valet was also responsible for bag service. Impossible for one person to do both tasks efficiently and concurrently. This was a nice hotel, but definitely not Michelin Key level (we have stayed in many).

Right off the bat, I will state that my biggest annoyance was having to pay for parking. It's absurd; if you're already paying for the room, parking should be included. Otherwise, we had a great time. The room was way bigger than the average hotel room of the same amenities. It was clean and comfortable. Loved the convenience of the wristband for getting into the room and also paying (almost) everywhere on site. Dinner at the Lodge Wood Fired Grill was delicious, and our daughter loved being able to look out into the water park from there. Breakfast buffet at Loose Moose was a bit overpriced, but honestly delicious so it was whatever. Prices at restaurants honestly seem "fair", in terms of it being like an amusement park level place. I loved that you could pretty much go wherever you wanted with whatever food/drink you wanted. Some places can be nit-picky about those things, so this was refreshing. Overall, we will definitely return!

Spent a night here after my daughter asked for us to spend a night here…read more This location is located near a mall and has plenty of parking but a lot of the parking is not near the rooms so you may end up hoofing jt across the parking lot to a door so you can get it to your room. Also, there are elevators at the center and wings of the resort, so if you room is not near one of these area, you are hoofing it with your luggage. One of the biggest perks is you can come before check in time and take your family directly to the water park while you wait for your room to be ready. They provide a changing room and lockers in case you need them. However, if you use Apple Pay the self check in kiosk will not recognize your credit card you use so you have to go to the front desk. The water park has several rides, a wave pool, and indoor pool with water games and an outdoor pool. There is ample seating but it is very humid in the water park bc of all the water circulating. You cannot consume outside food in the water park but you can in your room. So we spent all afternoon at the water park until it closed and then I ran out and picked up some food. Our room (kid cabin suite) was well apportioned and the lodge understands how to help families with water sports. They provide shampoo, soap, lotion and a clothes line. Also, a lot of stuff they advertise costs extra (mini golf, adventure quest, etc) but if you have little kids paying for a late check out may be helpful bc you can go to the water park starting at 0900. Fun family trip but be ready to spend some money.
