I have a daughter who has Strabismus (condition where your eyes cross without proper eyewear), so finding eyewear that allows her to feel confident and beautiful is always a challenge I dread every year. The lady who has taken care of us for years, moved away, so we had to find a new spot. We went to My Eye Dr in Columbia where we encountered a very friendly front desk. She then had Dr. Cathell who was just really sweet and made her feel at ease. I'm pretty turned off from chain Optometrists now after dealing with this one. Specifically Mr. Ebraheem. I feel like they rush your eye measurements, and then pressure you into picking "the one that looks best" after you're clearly struggling to see either options. Just trying to get to the next patient. Then when I had to do a reexamination after my new power was just awful, they wanted to charge me for trying to see another doctor instead of the same one. I explained why I would rather have someone else, but it "would not count as a reexamination." So I went with him.. they called me several times trying to "remind" me to come in early. I figured I was the last patient and they probably wanted me to get there early so they could wrap things up.. which already made me feel this would be rushed. Again. (They want you to come in 15 mins early, no matter what, but the the amount of "confirmation" calls I got, emphasizing it, was surprising). I arrived early and there I overheard the doctor checking to see if the last patient, me, arrived (this was 20 mins before my scheduled appointment). So my feelings were correct. Finally, the doctor saw me and when I explained he immediately became defensive, and basically blamed me for the wrong power. After I explained that my old (2 glasses ago) glasses are clearer than the power he gave, he left the room with my old glasses, came back and said "okay I have your new power." I asked what did he do, he said he's using my old glasses as the power because "if it works for you why bother change it?" No rechecking or retesting. Just giving up, giving me my old power and quickly rushing to leave. I'll just have to deal with it for now. But I will not be returning to MyEyeDr again, anywhere. I need to find a proper optometrist next time. If you need simple vision corrections, maybe this will work for you. But if you need someone who will spend time with you, to make sure you get as close to correct as possible, these guys are not the place to go to. read more

I bought glasses for my son in December 2025. While on vacation, two screws fell out of the glasses that held the sides together. The was obviously no abuse of the glasses. I took them back to MyEyeDr 3/27/26 and the lady at the desk took the glasses to the back room. Came back and said she didn't have the right screws. Then she said since we didn't buy the insurance plan that there was nothing she could do for us. Then she asked if we wanted to purchase another pair for 40% off. Of course NOT. What terrible customer service. There glasses are more expensive than most places. The least they could do is stand by their product. I told her that I didn't not want to purchase anymore glasses and that they lost my business permanently. She didn't care at all! The benefits representative was very pushy throughout the appointment. Before I even sat down, she said, "I'll ship the contacts to your house sounds good!?" I told her no, that I usually order my contacts through 1-800 Contacts, and that I wanted to review my benefits for glasses, since last year my insurance was not eligible when I had my eye exam. She responded that they price-match contacts and that if I ordered contacts through them, I would receive $40 off glasses. I again said no and reiterated that I only wanted to review my glasses benefits. Despite this, she continued to push me to order contacts through their office. I eventually felt pressured into agreeing, and she sent me to look at glasses. When I returned to my seat, she again brought up the contact price match. I told her that my decision depended entirely on the final cost of glasses after insurance benefits. She briefly mentioned that insurance would give me around $80 or something like that but did not explain this in any detail. Instead, she referenced that I spent $300 in 2023 and appeared to base all of her recommendations on what I paid two years ago, which I found inappropriate and unhelpful. She never clearly explained my glasses benefits because she was focused on getting me to order contacts and reminded that if I got it through them they would price match and give me a discount for glasses. Instead, she entered pricing for a full year's supply of contacts to be shipped to my house, totaling $225. I told her I did not want that and explained that I typically purchase one box at a time, which lasts me three months. At that point, she appeared visibly frustrated and removed the option. She then began pushing thinner lenses, stating that since my prescription went down, she recommended lighter lenses "for vanity's sake" so they would look better. I told her I wasn't sure because I didn't know what the glasses would look like, and she could not describe them beyond saying they would be heavier otherwise. I explained again that my decision depended on the total price. She questioned that and once again referenced the $300 I paid previously, which I did not understand since pricing and benefits change. When she entered the numbers, the total came out to over $400. I immediately told her no and said I did not want to proceed with the glasses. She responded rudely, removed the glasses, and said that if I was only purchasing one box of contacts, she could not ship them to my home and would instead send them to the store for pickup. I told her that if I had to pick them up, I would simply order through 1-800 Contacts, as I had consistently stated from the beginning. She huffed, deleted everything, printed my prescription, handed it to me, and said "here." She did not wish me a good day and appeared visibly upset. While she may have felt that I wasted her time, I feel that my time was wasted. From the start, I clearly stated that I wanted to review eyewear options--not contacts--and I did not receive helpful or transparent information regarding glasses benefits. The doctor herself was professional and direct during this visit. However, during my 2024 visit, she used a harsh tone when I declined daily contacts and explained that monthly contacts last longer for me. She told me I should not be wearing contacts longer than intended, which surprised me given her tone. I clarified that I do not overuse my contacts; I simply wear them infrequently and still have unopened boxes, which is why they last longer. While her approach this time was more appropriate, the prior interaction stood out. Additionally when I went in to check in for my appointment, there were three women at the front desk when I walked in, they all stared at me. I scheduled an eye exam because the issues with my vision have been getting worse. When I arrived, I was told I couldn't be seen because I was supposed to arrive ten minutes early. I asked why I wasn't informed of this beforehand, and the receptionist said they had called me yesterday and left a voicemail. My concern is this: if you were unable to reach me by phone, why wasn't a text or email sent? And if the call the day before didn't go through, why wasn't I contacted again on the day of the appointment? I take responsibility for not noticing the missed call, but I am extremely disappointed by how this situation was handled. Just for one glass we have to make several trips in order to fix it from a new order. No. 1 All managers in this location is not very professional in customer service. What happened to me on December 1st was completely unacceptable and goes far beyond normal customer service problems. It was disrespectful, unprofessional, and humiliating. I came in at 1:31 PM to pick up my glasses and to ask about the status of my son's glasses. Instead of helping me, Ms. Tina immediately gave me a hard time and spoke to me in a rude, condescending manner. When I tried to explain my concern, she cut me off and told me I "needed to talk to her a certain way," even though I was calm, respectful, and not yelling or cursing. I simply have a naturally loud, clear voice, and English is my second language. She showed no patience or understanding. When I told her I did not remember who helped us last time, she rolled her eyes at me and gave me a look as if I was somehow doing something wrong. She talked down to me like I was a child being scolded in school, instead of a paying customer. No parent should ever be humiliated like that in front of their child. When I asked for help picking out frames for my son, she refused. She said it was "the workers' job," yet she also refused to tell me how long the wait would be. She ignored my concerns and refused basic assistance as if she was above everyone else. The 15 mins I spent with the optometrist was great. He was friendly, listened to my concerns and made sure I understood the changes to my prescription. After that was a different story. I feel like buying your glasses at my eye dr is a total scam. There is no transparency in pricing. Just pressure to add more and more "extras" to my prescription and honestly I felt like asking questions and looking for alternatives was an imposition on the person helping me. The sales rep clearly had a total price in mind as she helped me. I ended up paying over $500 after insurance. Then I go to pick up my new glasses and ask if they have any lense cleaner/microfiber cloth. I was told "no we don't do that anymore but you can buy it for $3.18 including tax". I mean damn. Located inside of a busy shopping center so choose the time you come carefully. I have been coming here for a couple of years now. I recently started wearing glasses so I chose this location based on what's covered by my insurance and what was close to my house. This location was the one that fit my criteria the best. That have been retry good so far. They have several eye doctors that work out of this location. I have had no issues getting appointments. I like to pick the early morning time slots. They open daily at 9:00 am. Many of the other businesses aren't busy around that time so there is always plenty of parking close. I have made the mistake of coming during the lunch hours between 11:00 and 1:00 and the parking lot is a mad house. The few times I have been here I haven't had to wait more than a few minutes to be seen. I don't have anything to compare them to, but they always have a very large selection of frames to choose from. After I ordered my glasses, they came back within a week or so. When I stopped in to pick them up the staff ensure that they fit properly and were the correct prescription strength. They provided a eyeglass case, cleaning cloth, and cleaning spray. Overall, I am very satisfied with the level of service I received. I will continue to come back here for all of my high health needs. read more

I'm extremely disappointed with my recent experience at MyEyeDr on Dobbin Rd in Columbia, MD. I showed up on time for my 9 a.m. appointment, only to be completely ignored by the optometrist on duty. I told her I had a confirmed appointment, even tried to show her the proof, but she didn't even acknowledge me. She dismissed me without a second thought, saying someone else was coming in -- and then just walked away. When the second doctor showed up late, I once again explained that I had a 9 a.m. appointment. She barely looked at me and said it wasn't with her, then immediately took another patient instead. I've never felt so invisible and unimportant. It was humiliating. Eventually, a gentleman stepped in and figured out the problem -- apparently the online system let me book with a doctor who no longer works there. I get that technical glitches can happen, but the way I was treated was completely unacceptable. No one took ownership, no one apologized, and the lack of basic courtesy was shocking. I usually come here yearly for my eye exam. This is the first year I'm not satisfied with the customer service at this location. After my eye exam in April 2024, I chose glasses as I always do ( I find that most exciting). However, when my glasses came in with the prescription, I was unable to actually read from the glasses. I could see wonderfully as far as distance was concerned but unable to read without blurring. I was seated with the representative who worked with me when I ordered the glasses and of course, she explained all the reasons I wasn't able to read from the glasses...1: the way I was wearing the glasses 2: my eyes needed to get used to the new prescription 3: I should start wearing my glasses first thing in the morning. I have never in past visits had any problems with getting my glasses, with new prescriptions and unable to read from them immediately. I returned one pair and ordered a new pair. Same problem. Unable to read from them. And one pair does not tint when I'm in the sun and I've had that problem in the past as well. However, I'm writing this because I'm really not satisfied with the fact that I've actually known how to wear glasses and really shouldn't be told I need two weeks to "get used to the new prescription" (this is how headaches occur) and I currently have two pairs of glasses which are of no use to me for reading. I wanted to go back to my old prescription but I was told (in a huff by the receptionist at the front desk) I would have to make an appointment in hopes of getting in to be re-examined. Every step of my experience here was nothing less than stellar. I easily scheduled an appointment online and was able to be seen relatively soon. On the day of my appointment, I was warmly and promptly greeted. The office is clean and organized. Everyone was wearing masks. I was immediately seen and never kept waiting. Dr. Alvarez did my exam for eyeglasses and contacts. She was friendly and took her time explaining everything related to my issues concerning my vision. After the exam, Allie helped me choose my new glasses. She went above and beyond in helping me find the right frames. She even popped the lenses out of some pairs of sunglasses that could be crafted into eyeglasses. She was incredibly patient with me. I was very particular about what I was looking for and she took her time with me not just in choosing eyeglasses, but also in reviewing all of the pricing and offers available. They price match on contact lenses. I got the Costco price even though I don't have a Costco membership! They also accept Care Credit which was very helpful since I don't have vision insurance. I was told my eyeglasses would be ready in three weeks and they were ready on time. When I went to pick them up on 07/16, the two young ladies at the front desk were really friendly and helpful in letting me try them on and making sure they fit just right. I have a new vision provider through my employer and my coverage for in network providers seems fewer than my previous vision coverage. Myeyedr was closest to me so I decided to go there. The eye exam itself went fine. It seemed quicker than previous eye exams at other places. Not sure if that means they weren't as thorough or more efficient. I didn't think of it until after the fact, but I have always had my eyes dilated for every eye exam and this location does not do that. I will have to do research to see if it is necessary. My only real complaint is the time it took to just get a copy of my eye exam. My appt was on a Tuesday. At checkout, the associate said it would take 48 hours and that it would get emailed to me. I waited until the following week to give them extra time and got nothing. When I called, I spoke to Delisa (?). She said she would email it to me in 30 mins. Two hours went by and I did not get it so I called just to make sure it didn't get emailed to the wrong address. She apologized which I appreciated and was understanding. She said that the computer was down, but that she would send it by the end of the day. I waited all day and never got it. I called at 7:45, 15 minutes before they close. I believe I spoke to Karen. She said Delisa left. Are you serious? So two employees didn't follow through with what they told me. I was not impressed. That is bad customer service if you ask me. Came in for my eye doc appt. Scheduled at 11:30am. I arrived at 11:40 (they have a 10 min grace period). Was told I couldn't get my appointment done because I was 10 mins late and they had patients ahead of me... don't have a grace period if you won't honor it. In my case It's the end of the year and hard to make appointments and I have a newborn baby that I need to plan for to attend appointments. I rarely leave reviews but this place was astoundingly terrible. I have been going to this Eye Dr location since I moved to Columbia and even my best experience here has been mediocre. This particular experience just has me infuriated. I had an appointment scheduled today at 3:00 pm and at 2:50 pm, I called ahead to let them know that I was on my way, but I may be running just a little late. The lady answering my call was unprofessional and impolite. As soon as she answered the phone, there was a very awkward silence where I was unsure if the phone had even been picked up (there was no "hello" or "this is MyEyeDr how can I help you"). After a few seconds, I say "Hello? Is this MyEyeDr?" and the woman on the other end finally speaks and says "yes..." so I carry the conversation and let her know the situation. She informs me that there is only a 10-minute grace period for appointments. When I let her know that my GPS says I'll be there at 3:13, she tells me it has to be within 10 minutes of 3. She then proceeds to put me on hold while she asks the doctor if he is willing to wait an extra THREE MINUTES and after leaving me on hold for five minutes, she comes back and very unprofessionally tells me that the doctor refuses. I am NEVER going to this location again. Unhelpful people and a doctor who can't wait even 3 minutes for a patient? Ridiculous. read more

My visit was on May 31,2024. Very cold environment, Dr.Cathell was nice. But Cindy was not. She calculated my insurance inaccurate and insisted that I pay $125 .I refused because I knew that I didn't have to pay any amount. I got up and went outside. I called my insurance carrier, and they called and got it correct. At least I hope so because I called back to speak with Cindy and she won't talk to me. Hopefully, I will get my glasses. Me and my family love this place. We didn't have insurance and for both of my daughters glasses came out to 200.00 total. That was for lenses, frames, eye exams, anti glare coating, and the test for astigmatism. Again 200.00 for BOTH daughters. Other places we would have easily spent over 500.00 for both. One of my daughters broke her glasses and I didn't have the insurance for them but they let me just pay the cost of the insurance (22.00) and get a whole new pair. He was very helpful in helping getting my 8 year old daughter's glasses fixed when she broke them after less than 2 weeks of having them. I picked this store since my daughter got her glasses from them. It was about 1:00 Saturday and it seemed to be fairly busy, but not all workers were helping other customers. I waited approximately 10 minutes just browsing but at least one or two workers walked by with even acknowledging my presence. I guess they didn't want to help me. Bad first impressions! read more

PRO: The doctor, Theresa Chung, is great! She is sweet. nice, and diligent. She was also nice enough to give my dad, who didn't make an appointment, an exam on the spot. CON: My father and I had our exams on Thurs. May 10. They said, " Your glasses will probably come in on the 17th, and your dads on the 21st". I found out i had astigmatism, so i needed the glasses much more than my father, who only needed reading glasses. SO i eagerly called in on the 17th, making sure the glasses are ready. They said the glasses weren't. The next day, the 18th, they called telling me that my Dad's glasses are in. They must have gotten the dates switched... oh well. I then called in the 21st, because that must be my pick-up date. Me: "Are my glasses ready for pick up"? They replied: "No they aren't Me: Ohh. do you know when they will be"? Reply: " Umm, the reason is because we have the wrong lens size. We have to send them back". Me: "Do you know how long it will take, till i can get it"? Reply: "No". WHAAAATTTTTT!!! that could mean 1 week - 3 months. WHO KNOWS?!?!?!? All this time, they could have called me, informing me on the situation rather than letting me anxiously wait for my eyeglasses so i can see the chalkboard a bit clearer. Apparently, the customer has to call, to get an update on their eye glass problems. I then told my mom to call, to ask how long it would take, till i got my glasses. They said 7-10 days. So here i am, without glasses, barely being able to see the keyboard, and not knowing when i will be able to see a clearer world. Its been almost 3 weeks, and i am hopeless. Chris the customer service manager contacted me to fix the issues I encountered, he gave my son a free set of glasses as well. Very nice of them to make up for the previous issues I encountered. Tiffany was also very helpful in picking out a pair of frames better suited for my son. Dr. Chung is great with kids and very nice. Due to the quick turn around and communication with the issues encountered, I would recommend them. I hope that the good customer service continues and the next time we need glasses I will be back. read more

Talk about great customer service and excellent care. You call when you get to the door so no one is walking in due to covid and they come to the door right away which is excellent!! Then the exam began right away. It was quick and efficient without being rushed. I didn't buy glasses, was just here for an exam. When I was waiting I told the person at the counter I didn't need glasses and had another appointment to rush to. She got someone right away to get my copay and my prescription was brought right over. During a tough time this office made this EASY! Thank you guys. Great first impression. I'll definitely be getting all future eye exams here. read more

I waited three weeks to get an appointment at this location and they cancelled my appointment the day before. They graciously offered to reschedule me for three weeks later. Worst customer service I have experienced in a long time. Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere, read more
