I have been having quite the time when trying to get my eyes examined. I have popped into so many eye places to try and get myself a scheduled visit. Most times I set up an appointment, show up, and then told that my insurance is not taken. I decided to do it differently this time. I stopped into the store and asked if my insurance was taken and if so would I be able to set up an appointment. The lady that was working did her due diligence when checking if they took my insurance. I sat there for several minutes as she tapped away on her tablet, searching every way possible. In the end, after all her help, she wasn't able to take my insurance. (They actually probably could, but each place runs my insurance incorrectly and expect me to pay out of pocket and do the work to be repaid, that's not how insurance works, but I digress). read more

Just when I thought great customer service was a thing of the past Pearle Vision showed me the best service I have had in awhile. My son had cracked his frames while playing soccer. However since the issue happened on a Saturday, the place we originally purchased the glasses was closed until Monday. So we decided our best bet would be find a pair of frames that were the same make as the ones he currently owned, and pop his lenses which were unscathed into them, because going to school without his glasses the following day was not an option. After visiting an area Walmart where we received NO service at all, and I was in quite low spirits, when I started calling around desperately for some help. This lead to me contacting Pearle Vision, where I talked with Syuzanna. She listened to our dilemma, and was extremely patient while we tried to find the model number of the frames. In the end, it turned out that Pearle Vision did not have the frames we needed in stock. HOWEVER, Syuzanna suggested that we try a different eye glass place in the mall that she thought may be able to help us. It turned out, where she suggested was able to get the frames for us the same day. -- Pearle Vision did not have to make that recommendation, but because of that act of kindness and the extra mile that was taken by Pearle Vision, we were able to send my son to school the next day with no problem. Completely satisfied with my entire visit. I haven't had an eye exam in years, recently moved to Columbia and noticed issues with my vision. Dr. Hood is one of those doctors that you know, loves his job. He brings a inviting vibe as soon as you meet him. As I have a bad anxiety disorder, it is nice to have that environment. When I found out that it was time for me to get my first pair of eye glasses, Vann worked with me to find the perfect pair and for a great deal. Dr. Hood was patient, knowledgeable, and took his time making sure all my questions were answered. As a long time glasses and contacts wearer, I can safely say that Pearle Vision in Columbia Mall is by far the best place I've ever gone for my eye needs. From start to finish, the process was easy and efficient. Each employee I dealt with (including the Eye Doctor) were professional and knowledgeable, without giving me any hard sell. They ran my insurance and gave me different options based on what was covered versus the current store specials, and worked out a great deal for me. I purchased frames and lenses from here on 19 November 2017. They don't make the lenses in-house so you have to wait 7-10 days for them to come in. That's fine. What's not fine is getting the glasses and having the focus point of each lens (the optical center [OC]) be too low. I had to lift my head up to be able to see clearly out the lenses. I told this to the employee that I thought the OC was too low. She "measured" it again (by this, she had me look at her while she drew lines on the lenses with a wax pencil. Very scientific, I know.) and said that it was correct. I didn't believe her so I went over to Lens Crafters and asked them to find the OC in the lens. After they marked the OC on the lens and I put them back on, they clearly showed the OC was about 4 mm too low in each lens (for context, the OC of the lens is supposed to sit right in front of the center of your iris). With my strong prescription, the Lens Crafters people said any deviation from where my true OC is will cause distortion and blurriness. I went back to Pearl Vision and insisted the OC was too low. They begrudgingly agreed to remake the lenses for free. More than 10 days later, I went back to pick up the glasses. It was now 22 December 2017. As I suspected, the OC was still too low; it basically hadn't changed. This time, two employees helped me (including the manager, I think). I again told them I had to lift my head to see clearly. Their response: wear them for a few days. Wearing glasses for a few days where the OC is too low will not suddenly make them okay. I immediately walked over to Lens Crafters. They again confirmed that the OC was too low. At this point, I had (and have) lost all confidence in Pearl Vision to correctly make these lenses and having not been able to use them for a month at this point, I didn't want to wait another 10 days to have them not work again. I paid Lens Crafters ~$300 to remake the lenses, but this time, an hour later, they got it right. I was finally able to use this glasses after a month and three sets of lenses. Lens Crafters has this software that more accurately determines where the OC should be. Pearl Vision does this by hand and it does not work. I'm a scientist. I don't see how Pearl Vision's technique can get the OC right unless it is by chance. I no longer trust Pearl Vision for anything except ordering frames (I cannot speak to the doctor portion of this location. I have never used that.). If they have gotten your lenses correct in the past, good for you. For me, they are 0 and 2. They won't get a third chance. read more

Dr. Hood cares. Little more pricey than other discount eye places but he knows what he is doing. Has an extensive knowledge of the different types of materials and products out there and is able to combine his skill, knowledge, and available resources to ensure you have the right contacts or glasses for what you do. As a firefighter he makes sure that my eyes have a fighting chance while wearing contacts for 24-48 hours straight and watches for the issues associated with my profession and regular degenerative diseases that affect us. Have not had a bad experience with any of the staff. I primarily see Dr. Hood however the whole staff so far over the last 4 years has been nothing but profesional, kind, and accommodating. I have been going to this Pearle Vision location for years. I highly recommend it both for eyewear and for the excellent optometrist, Dr. Hood. Dr. Hood is very knowledgeable and thorough and explains the tests and results in a manner you can understand. I have been wearng glasses since middle school, and have never found a worse store than this one. Both the optometerist and the store are terrible. The optometrist was very rude and impatient while examining my 1st grader. To cap things off, the receptionist is unbelievably rude. We ordered glasses, and they never bothered to tell us they came in. After 1 month, we called them, and they told us that "we were on their list to be called today." Yeah right. I will never be back, and woud never recommend their service to anyone. read more

I got my annual eye exam done here recently and was very pleased with the service rendered. Dr. Hood was very professional, knowledgable and pleasant. He took the time to make sure all my questions were answered. The front desk person, Judy, is a gem! She was very friendly and made the check-in and check-out process so much fun. I'm almost sorry that I only get to see them both once a year. I also got my contact lenses and glasses here, and both store staff I had encountered (Michelle? and Vann) were great - both were very professional and courteous. Dr. Maria Pham is phenomenal! My eye exam experience with her was great. I've never been to an optometrist as thorough as Dr. Pham in any other private or commercial type practice. She is clearly caring and passionate about helping her patients achieve their best vision. She performed a detailed medical history, asked me about my visual needs, introduced me to multifocal contacts, and provided an extensive eye health examination. I never knew it was possible to wear contacts that allow me to see far away and close up at my age in the last decade since I started wearing readers over my contacts and no line bifocal glasses. I'm over the hill but no more glasses thanks to these multifocal contacts! This new contact lens technology that Dr. Pham introduced to me has changed my life and improved my vision immensely! Speaking of technology, Dr. Pham has an optomap machine that captured photos of the back of my eyes which screened for eye diseases, saved me from the treacherous side effects of having my pupils dilated the old school way, and allowed me to see inside my eyes when she reviewed these photos with me. As if Dr. Pham's tech savvy eye exam wasn't impressive enough, this optometrist also started a contact lens recycling program at her office. I was trying on my new contacts when Dr. Pham asked me to place my old contacts and the plastic/aluminum container in the recycling bin after I was done. Wow, wow, wow! It's so refreshing and wonderful to have been in the care of such a kind, environmentally conscientious, caring, and knowledgeable eyecare professional. I'm forever grateful! Dr. Pham is truly an asset to Pearle Vision and I highly recommend her to everyone with a set of eyes!! read more

They gave me a very good discount and Dr. Patel was very professional. Most of all I want to thank the person who followed me and suggested me the wonderful glasses I bought! This location has lost my business forever. After spending hundreds of dollars between me and my wife's glasses they failed to give me simple customer service when I needed it. I had an issue with one of my transitional lenses, I went in an one sales associate took the time to examine the lenses under there equipment. She told me it was the film peeling. When I went back in to pick up the new lenses I wanted to make sure if it happened again I wouldn't be liable for the cost of the lense. We'll their poor customer service kicked in. Instead of actually examining the glasses, another associate and the optometrist decided it was better to just blame me for not treating the glasses properly. They insisted on saying that I scratched them (no scratches on lenses) and when I asked the guy Vann to check under the equipment he thought it was a good idea to be condescending and insult my intelligence. Long story short they will no longer get any of my money nor do I recommend anyone else to spend theirs. read more

Be aware, this location maybe be over charging your insurance. It took me a little less than 24 hours to figure out this location tried to cheat my dauhter. Our representative was Soocha, if I am spelling her name correctly. When I checked the claim from VSP I was disgusted to realized they over charged my daughter by 52.95. Do not take the 1 year eye wear protection plan, ther is a co pay of 25.00 each and every time you use it. Chances are your insurance already covers that. The saddest part it, when we came in to get the money back, it became a verbal battle because I think they know that they are overcharging customer, they will pretend it's the calculators fault, no lie, they blamed it on the calculator. The manager Rick also believe the culprit is the calculator. Please check what your insurance plan gives you and if you must have a yearly exam, do not let them put the coverage of poly carb for 2 years on it because you need a new lens anyway after the year is over if your vision has change. If you have any question do not hesitate to contact me for more detailed information. The staff is great, the reason for that is simple, they try to make it easier for you to like them and not check your insurance plan. AVOID!!!! I'm not sure who is more incompetent - Dr. Hood or the opticians. Last summer I had and eye exam and got glasses at Pearle in Columbia. The glasses made me see double. After suffering through the "waiting period" I had them remake the glasses, but they were only marginally better. I kept wearing them thinking it would just take a little longer to get used to. Wrong! By January, I had to drive with one eye closed so I went back to Dr Hood who told me that it was probably due to an increase in astigmatism over my previous Rx. Wrong again! I finally went to a reputable eye care store (Northern Virginia Doctors of Optometry!) and was told by a fabulous doctor that both the prescription and glasses were made wrong. It seems that nobody in the Columbia Pearle understands the concept of prism (the optical centers were off, introducing prism on top of that already present in my eyes). I'm still trying to get back the $1100 I spent there. read more

I haven't ordered glasses from this location (I wear contacts 99% of the time), but I highly recommend the optician, Dr. Marcus Hood. Both he and his staff are very helpful and pleasant. Dr. Hood clearly explained everything he was doing and why. I've been seeing eye doctors since third grade and I've never had someone so thorough. Their rates are reasonable with no hidden costs. I'd suggest calling them to get an estimate. Even if I could save $20 by going to a big-box type place, I wouldn't. It's worth the extra money to have someone I trust! read more

The doctor himself, Dr. Marcus Hood, is amazing. He is very nice and helpful and goes straight to the point and he is quite knowledgable. The reason why I'm leaving 2 stars is because the personnel working there do not seem compatible to work with him. They hardly ever answer the phone and when they do they are rude and do not answer questions. This goes for all personnel, I don't know them by name and to be frank it doesn't matter. They all treat their customers the same,badly. They also have two reception desks and the glasses desk can't give you any information on anything that is happening on the doctor side but there is only one number you can call. The doctor receptionists is hardly every there so when you call and want to speak to her you have to call back to whenever she arrives. When you call on her time and they transfer you over she doesn't answer and you get the machine. The service doesn't change when you go in person. Would love to continue to see Dr. Hood because he is definitely one of the best but after all the times I've gone I don't think that I withstand the other rude people who work there. read more
