$12 Chả Giò / Crispy Imperial Rolls
    Jill R.

Well I guess I'm not a PHO person. I found this incredibly bland. I mean bland. I added vinegar, fish sauce followed Katsu and nope like weak tea? The spring rolls were very tough skinned and just an odd color for something fried? What happened here? I left with a hefty bill and a server that couldn't be bothered by me or any patron. Was this place really filling up before my eyes? Super UNFRIENDLY like are we keeping you up guys. Location could be a dynamite spot by the hospital but wow See photos and tell me what you think.

Father's Kitchen on Divisadero feels like stepping into a small gallery where flavors and images share the same stage. The walls are dressed with beautiful photographs, frames of light and memory, that quietly accompany your meal like old friends telling stories. Then there are the crispy imperials: golden, delicate, and with just the right crunch to make you pause and admire the art of simplicity. Pair them with a tall glass of iced tea, cool, balanced, and refreshing and the whole experience turns into something both casual and poetic. A place where food and art sit at the same table.

Spring rolls with the whipped creamy peanut butter

Friendly staff but the food was lacking freshness and flavor. I really wanted to like this place. It's pretty and super clean and the menu was simple, not over doing it with the trifold of dishes. My Father's Kitchen is very inviting. But it was over priced and just ok. The soup had a beautiful rich beef broth but no fresh herbs or sprouts to go with it. And although it's a nice soup, there was no pho flavoring to the broth. (no fish sauce, onion, ginger, star anise, and cinnamon stick to flavor broth) The papaya salad was good but again needed heat and a little acid. It was ok. Fried spring rolls are good but 3 for $12.50? Over $4 per roll? The fresh spring roll are good but the dipping sauce was whipped peanut butter. I couldn't eat it. I thought adding fish sauce and sriracha to it would help, but it didn't t. It needed hoisin. The Grilled Mary's 5 Spice Chicken plate ($14.50) had flavor but it was 2 thin pieces of skinless chicken thighs over a mound of rice. It didn't look or taste freshly grilled. That bummed me out. I was hoping for plump marinated grilled chicken with yummy charred edges. I guess for the location it works. My suggestion, fix the peanut sauce, add another fried egg roll, and grill the chicken to order and toss in some cool garnishes like cucumbers and soup toppings.

Great pho! No sprouts. I enjoyed Vietnamese iced coffee, very fresh. Pho is amazing! Service is quick, no need for reservations.

Not sure why people like this place. I love eating pho and Vietnamese food but this is by far one of the worst Vietnamese restaurants I have ever tried especially in the city. Guess they are surviving because of their location in between UCSF Mount Zion and Kaiser. The first time I came here was just for an iced Vietnamese coffee. I used my 15min work break literally coming from across the street to get coffee. My drink took my entire break. When I came here for lunch during my work break, I was seated right away in the communal table between strangers. I ordered a small pho ga right away. My food did not come out for some time at least 18mins for pho ga. I saw everyone else around me including those who came after me get their soup noodles before I got mine. Even the guy sitting across from me said my order was taking unusually long and that I should check on it. The guy ordered his pho a few minutes before me and got his within minutes. I asked one of the workers after waiting over 15mins. The cashier girl saw me staring into the kitchen and asked a worker to help me. The lady with the short hair came up and asked what I needed. I said I wanted to check on my order. Then she looked and said just wait, it is boiling. We need to boil the soup first! Then she goes back to the kitchen and I could hear her say, "just checking order" in a frustrated tone. The stranger sitting across me exchanged eye contact with me because we were both shocked at the terrible service. Honestly, Vietnamese places are usually very quick but because of their slow service, I almost ran out of time to eat even though my break was 45mins. My chicken noodle soup was also very salty! It was like drinking salt water with some chicken and onion pieces. What a disappointment! Prices were on the higher side for what they offered. This place eventually got packed. Not a comfortable seating situation, overpriced, and rude service. I definitely do not recommend!

Great for quick lunch on your break because service is so fast and menu is simple and affordable especially for the city! Much appreciated!

Cute little cafe/resturant. The pho was pretty good very standard flavors with no bells or whistles. The broth was clear and had a very clean finish. The spring rolls came with a giant bowl of emulsified peanut sauce which was interesting. The coffee was prepared to order and it looks like they keep a clean coffee bar set up. Nice strong traditionally prepared Vietnamese coffee offered both hot and cold. Staff were attentive and quick. Overall a very nice neighborhood spot for a quick bowl of pho or a coffee.

    2 imperial rolls for $12.50

The broth and pho are about as good as it gets. If solely rating on the food it gets 5 stars. Just a little frustrated with the portion size specifically with the imperial rolls. There are two solid size ones but for $12.50? See pic to appreciate....

They are conveniently located near Kaiser so I got a chance to try this spot after an appointment. I got their small beef noodle soup special. Their broth isn't as flavorful or oily as other restaurants but it is very clean and comforting. It came with a good amount of beef, and the noodles were a great texture. Service was great and the servers were attentive. The restaurant itself isn't that big but it's very comfortable. I will be back if I'm in the area!

Love love their pho! Their broth is so delicious and flavorful! I like that they have chicken pho and beef pho but also a combination one with both chicken and beef! You can also customize your pho by asking them to take out whatever it is that you don't want. I think it's a different style pho than what some people are used to. It comes with a side of jalapeños and lime or lemon wedge. Gets pretty busy during lunch hours but once you order the food comes pretty quick. It might take some time to be seated or to order after being seated though.

Great view from window seat. 1st Time Here.

Lovely atmosphere and flavorful food. I popped in to use restroom and was going to get something to go but the tantalizing aroma stopped me. I got a great window seat and this is definitely a place to people watch. The young lady working door greeted me with a smile and promptly took my order. She recommended the Mary's Chicken Satay. I was only one in restaurant initially so my food came quickly. The dining room has cool street pictures from Vietnam and other homey decor that makes me feel like I'm in my Nana's sitting room visiting and waiting for me to serve me comfort food. I really enjoyed the dish--really flavorful white meat and fresh herbs with lettuce. The peanut sauce had a lush depth to it and didn't feel like peanut butter but like a nutty peanut aioli. The white rice was a large portion which I really appreciated. I'm only giving it four stars cause I had the one dish. But i anticipate coming back and having another excellent experience which would make me elevate their score to five stars. Provecho!

Convenient lunch spot with reasonable price and fast service. They make authentic northern style pho (which I personally enjoy more because it's on the savory side) vs the southern style pho with all the bean sprouts and all the other toppings/sauce to dress it up (I find it too sweet sometimes). After turtle tower restaurant closed down their 2 locations in the city, it's been hard to find a place that specializes in northern pho. Broth is clean and they give you a decent amount of protein in the bowl. The noodles they use with their pho are wide and tender. The chicken broth is better than their beef broth in my opinion.

Service was very slow and it took us a long time to get seated and also get our food. Given the slow service and very oily meats, I probably would not come back. My boyfriend got the Charbroiled beef with garlic noodles and imperial rolls (#24) with an extra order of beef. Our meal was super filling and balanced! They don't skimp out on either the noodles or the protein (definitely could have done without the extra beef we ordered). The chicken was juicy but the skin stayed crispy. The charbroiled beef had the smallest hint of sweetness for me. The noodles had a nice chew to them, and were dry but in the best way possible. A lot of garlic noodles tend to be too oily and leave an unpleasant lingering mouthfeel, but that wasn't the case here. The noodles could have used more garlic for my preference, but I think it was well balanced with the flavorful protein and fish sauce. The imperial rolls were okay and a nice crunchy side. I wouldn't get them as a separate appetizer, but only $1 more to add to your dish is unbeatable. Overall a great experience and I'd definitely bring some friends here for a comforting meal.

This older man walks around very ambitious with his little credit card terminal ready to charge anyone who is anyone. He gives no receipt. He is the owner and the waiter. But he does not give any service and just expects tip. All he does is walk around and collect money & does the very minimum. I've given this place multiple chances over the years, but unfortunately each experience has been uncomfortable in one way or another. The first time was around 2022. My family and I arrived about 30 minutes before closing, and the owner told us he would still serve us. After seating us, though, he immediately pressured us to order quickly and told us we had to eat fast because they were closing. I was with my elderly relatives too so just turn us away? If that was the case, it would've been better to simply not seat us. Don't be greedy just bc you want a few bucks. Another time, my husband called to order Hanoi-style pho to go, and the owner responded with unnecessary attitude, saying that's the only kind they serve. LOL, ok. The interaction felt rude for no reason. Most recently, we came on Mother's Day. The dishwasher/staff member was also unfriendly. The bun cha was decent according to my mom, and my husband said the beef stew noodle dish was okay, but my pho lacked flavor entirely. I wasn't expecting it to compare to pho in Vietnam or even San Jose, but it tasted very bland so I didn't finish it. The service from the owner continues to be the biggest issue. When we paid, he stood over us while I counted cash, so I felt pressure to count fast and add tip quickly. He left then came back a few seconds later then quickly grabbed the money without even asking whether I needed change and disappeared faster than the wind. The whole interaction felt awkward and pushy. He has a very strange personality. He's honestly very sleazy and has bad energy After several experiences like this, we won't be returning.
