Awesome restaurant and bakery! I'll need to go back and take picture of their food, but for this review we'll focus on their POG cake! So delicious and the frosting is not super sweet! The cake is so light and the highlight is the Kit Kat-like base on the bottom. It's crispy and tasty. You can eat the whole cake without feeling guilty! Check it out for your next birthday or dessert!

So just a warning, parking for this place was very confusing. They do valet only for $6, and signs were not very clear on which ramp to take. Thankfully the workers at the car dealerships below were very kind and helpful in pointing us in the right direction. The restaurant is right on top of car dealerships, and you'll enter and see a lot of cars in a showroom. The restaurant is up top, and fills up pretty quickly so have a reservation. My family and I tried several of their food the other night- the mochi crusted fish, mochi crusted tofu, the scallops, truffle seabream, Caesar salad, paella and some dessert. Everything was delicious! Most entrees start $50+, I personally really enjoyed the truffle seabream with risotto. I wasn't as full as I hoped, but flavor was good.

Located in the luxury car sales building - this restaurant is kind of hidden. The service is friendly and responsive. We had the miso butterfish and it was delicious. The crab cakes, shave ice, and specialty drinks were also Ono! They made the birthday celebration special with chocolate cake and a candle. People were dressed casually to nice. It's not pretentious. I think I like that the best.

What a stylish place! Located inside the Symphony building on the corner of Kapiolani Blvd and Ward Ave, it is also connected to the luxury car dealership also located inside Symphony. The interior definitely gives off an upscale yet chill local vibe. My man took me here for my birthday this past year since he also had a gift card from Christmas and MW did not disappoint! We had a dinner reservation, arrived on time and were seated almost immediately. Our server, Tyler was very attentive and recommended the best drinks and dishes. Not only was it delicious, the food is so well presented... definitely visually stimulating. I remember I saw another walk out with a cool looking dessert dish, which turned out to be a fancy shave-ice, I knew that was exactly what I NEEDED. Since it was also my birthday, we received another complementary dessert. Overall, I am in love (especially with that shave ice)!

Of the 8 dishes my party and I ordered, there was only one that tasted absolutely scrumptious. The others were not as memorable, unfortunately. The service itself was impeccable though!

Have wanted to try MW Restaurant for a minute and was able to get a reservation for 7:30 on a Saturday. Location: as everyone has said, MW is in a bit of an odd location as it shares the space with several high end car dealerships. Parking: Do valet. It's $6 and VERY easy, although the space can be a bit cramped because of all the vehicles. But there is also street parking around if you choose to go that route. Protip: to avoid confusion on how to get to the valet, enter from the Kapiolani side. There is a driveway between the Audi and Mercedes dealership that you turn into then follow the signs in the back which will lead you up a ramp to the second floor and the valet. From the valet, you just enter through the glass doors and the restaurant is to the left. Very easy to get to. The space is actually kind of small for such a good restaurant but it works. They were busy, so while we were brought water (and refills) very quickly our server was tied up for a couple of minutes. But that gave us time to look over the menu and decide what to order. For a starter we had some ceviche that was on special. I can't remember what sauce the fish was coated in but it was AMAZING. Like, truly. I could have had a vat of that and been satisfied. They came with some fresh chips that were salted to perfection. I knew the meal was going to be good based of that dish alone. I had the Ossobuco terrine special which was basically very tender meat in a square mold along with vegetables. I don't know what sauce they used to top it off but it was DELICIOUS. Just a solid, hearty dish. The potatoes were cooked well. 10/10 no notes. My date had the salmon over a bed of quinoa and peas. It was also very tasty. But I think she had a bit of food envy. The ossobuco was that good. Then for dessert we ordered the MW candy bar. Our server did a fantastic job of explaining that it was basically a fancy twix candy bar but I guess I was expecting something a bit more decadent. To be fair to the chef, they hit it out of the park by making a fancy twix bar. The one thing that didn't work for me was there was also a quenelle of ice cream (which was delicious) on top of this chocolate disk. I didn't like the chocolate disk at all--essentially two big chunks of that bitter chocolate that was discordant with the rest of the dish? I dunno. Otherwise, just a fine dessert but when I return to MW, I'm going to get something a bit more decadent. Service: our server Alyssa was fantastic. Not only was she super knowledgeable and friendly and all of that, her expressions the way she described each dish made you want to try ANYTHING she recommended. So, if it were to compare this to another Oahu staple like Roy's, I'd say they were basically even with Roy's winning out on the dessert and MW winning on food creativity and taste. To me Roy's feels a bit dated at times while MW feels more food forward in terms of what they offer and in presentation. Would recommend MW to anyone celebrating a birthday, a date night, or visiting from out of town. I'm not sure how well they'd accommodate larger groups though.

MW is located in the Symphony building in Honolulu, second floor of an upscale car dealership. The restaurant is not big but beautifully decorated. We went to celebrate our wedding anniversary on a Thursday night, so the place wasn't too crowded. It is a little bit of a casual fine dining restaurant, and the prices reflect that; the service was also impeccable. All the food was plated and presented nicely, and everything was exceptional and creative. For starters, we had crab cakes, wagyu sliders and salmon skin salad. The crab cakes tasted crispy and fresh. The wagyu sliders had little chopped pieces of beef in a savory sauce. The large pieces of super crispy salmon skins in the salad were so good that I could probably eat a whole plateful of them. My wife had misoyaki butterfish, two generous pieces of very flavorful perfectly grilled and glazed fish on top of assorted vegetables. I had the seafood paella, it was so good with shrimps, clams, scallops and half lobster. The seafood was cooked perfectly and the rice had the right amount of acidity with the cherry tomatoes. The paella's portion was actually quite generous, I was totally full and satisfied. The brûlée dessert was unique with a local twist. The chocolate cake was good, but was just regular tasting. The free cookies they gave at the end were really delicious though. Overall we had a very relaxing wonderful experience. MW will always be our go to place to celebrate any special occasions.

This place was phenomenal! The food was soooo delicious, every course and every bite. Our drinks were also very artfully done. Our server was also very friendly and helpful. The restaurant itself is also nice, and I loved that it felt like a little hidden gem in Velocity (the car showroom). It was definitely upscale pricing, but you get what you pay for. It was beautiful creative masterpieces one after another. The most incredible dish was actually the dessert-- the crème brulee dessert. My, oh my, that was one of the most amazing desserts I've ever had in my life! I would go back for just the dessert! All in all, it was s beautiful meal and I now always want to go back when we visit Honolulu.

Nice meal for special occasion (like one of my buddies' birthday) or just to treat yourself. Interesting location as you need to enter through 2nd floor of luxury auto showroom or parking lot! Enjoyed the classy yet casual ambiance and great service with my buddies. Worth checking out if looking for nice Asian Fusion meal.

HSO - Lunar New Year 2026: Year of the Horse / MW This is the first half of a two-part review, first our experience at MW before the concert. We arrived at the Blaisdell at 4:30pm and found the parking lot to be coned off because it was full. However, the attendant felt sorry for us, so he let us in and the gate manager directed us to park in the section designated for HSO members. I am a regular contributor but not a member, perhaps something to consider. When I got home, I saw the email from the HSO informing us of limited parking. In any case, we were very fortunate to get a space right across from the concert hall. First off, MW. The better half of the world food tour duo couldn't make it due to a family dinner, so I invited my SIL. She is turning out to be the designated stand-in. We were early, so we had a cocktail at Artizen. MW was empty at 5pm and we were seated at the first table for two along the windows facing Ward Avenue. We opted for the Chef's 5-course tasting menu ($160) with wine pairing ($45) as the menu compelled us to do so. We started with a glass of NV Maison Roche de Bellene sparkling wine from Cremant de Bourgogne. It was low in acidity, with notes of apple and pear ... crisp and refreshing. It accompanied five small bites ... visual and taste treats. Next came one of MW's signature dishes, Mochi-crusted Hawaiian Kanpachi, served with somen noodles, banchan, and a soy/yuzu vinaigrette. It was paired with a 2023 Fritz Haag Spatlese from Braunberger Juffer. The spicy sweetness of the Riesling paired perfectly with the delicate fish. The third course was Hokkaido Scallops with a brown gravy of dried scallops and corn. I don't care for cooked scallops but this dish was delectable. It came with a 2023 Chardonnay from Santa Lucia Highlands. The scallop was so memorable that I didn't remember anything about the wine. The "main" course was Truffle Wagyu Sukiyaki with a bowl of rice on the side. The wine was a 2022 Austin Hope Cabernet Sauvignon from Paso Robles. This was by far the best wine of the evening, bold, with notes of oak, chocolate and dark fruit. I don't care for sukiyaki, but this petite bowl was so flavorful, with thin slices of Wagyu, yuba and mushrooms, topped by an almost raw egg. The scent of truffle was intoxicating! Dessert was a Tropical Fruit Creamsicle Brulee ... lilikoi sorbet custard, atop haupia tapioca and pieces of fruit. It looked fabulous but I do not like tapioca so I just had the top half. It was served with a cordial glass of 2022 Michele Chiarlo Moscato d'Asti Nivole, a very fruity dessert wine. It paired well with the chocolate bar from the dish of petit fours. That was my dessert! This was a fabulous meal, well worth the price. I find wine pairings to be great value because I get to taste wines I wouldn't normally order and save money too. $90 wouldn't cover half a bottle of a good red from France, which is what I usually order.

Oxtail Oxtail, Corned Beef, Pork Belly Soup

Love, love, love, MW restaurant. We came here for my dad's 90th birthday. Reservations are definitely recommended. We were seated promptly, service with our waiter was amazing and attentive. My dad just loves oxtail soup. It's not something that's on the menu, but my brother was able to talk to Chef Wade in advance, so he got to enjoy this specialty! My dad loved it so much, he slurped up every last drop. This oxtail soup is unique and that it also has corned beef and pork belly along with oxtail. Definitely a winner! For appetizers, we tried the Wagyu beef sliders, crabcakes, and pork hash dumplings. For entrées, we ordered the butterfish, mochi crusted Kona Kampachi, and seafood paella. Everything was expertly prepared, fish was very moist and super flavorful. We all enjoyed our entrées. Most of us ordered the shave ice, which is a very unique dessert they have here. Definitely not the typical shave ice that you're thinking! I ended up ordering the strawberries and cream, which was a meringue, so I can't comment on the shave ice but it seemed like everybody else enjoyed it! MW is a small restaurant with a cozy feel. Definitely want to come back and try some of the other options.

Mochi crusted Kanpachi

I've been wanting to try this place for a while, you need to make a reservation in advance if you want to dine here. I came with a party of 6 and they seated us right when we checked in, servers were kind and gave us good suggestions. We ordered multiple apps- my favorite was the crab cakes. For the main entree I got the Kanpachi with soba noodles which was cooked perfectly. Overall its a little expensive, but I would definitely come back for a special occasion. again

Pork dumplings
Tab Y.

We really enjoyed our visit to MW. It was a reasonably priced meal for the amazing tastes and fusion dishes we tried. With two drinks, two appetizers, two entrees, and 1 dessert, the total came out to about $208 without tip. Our MW favorites were probably the miso honey butterfish and the short rib. The tomato salad was also great if you enjoy tart salads and dressings. The tropical brûlée was also an interesting and tasty dessert. The pork dumplings were probably the least favorite of the four food options we got, so I'd recommend a different appetizer for your table. All in all, service was incredibly attentive, despite the busy-ness of the restaurant. The ambiance was lively and modern, especially if you're able to get over the fact that the restaurant is nestled in a car dealership. Highly recommend for tourists and locals alike!

A Culinary Triumph in Honolulu: Modern Vietnamese Elegance at Chao…read more Honolulu's dining scene has welcomed a sparkling gem with Chao, a modern Vietnamese concept that brilliantly balances tradition, technique, and local soul. From meticulously crafted cocktails to an unforgettable sequence of small plates and mains, our experience here was nothing short of remarkable. The Aperitif Hour We kicked off the evening at the bar. I opted for the Dirty Martini. While initially leaning a bit too dry, a quick request for an extra splash of olive brine elevated it into a wonderfully savory, crisp starter drink. My husband selected the Chao Old Fashioned--a standout cocktail where complex, aromatic bitters took center stage, lending a warm depth to the classic spirit base. Starters & Shared Plates Chicken Wings (Cánh Gà Chiên Nước Mắm) The moment the plate arrived, we were met with the bold, funky perfume of caramelised fish sauce. But the magic happened on the very first bite: the fish sauce yielded a nuanced, perfectly balanced glaze rather than an overwhelming pungency. Intensely crispy on the outside, succulent within, and beautifully accented with fresh garlic, chives, and bright chili heat. Beef Carpaccio (Bò Tái Chanh) An absolute Masterclass in flavor harmony. Paper-thin slice of ultra-fresh beef layered beneath an aromatic herb mix, crisp onions, Thai chili, and a satisfying shallot crunch. The transition of flavors across the palate is seamless--starting with the silky, savory beef, moving through a light yet rich lime vinaigrette, and finishing with a vibrant pop of fresh mint that cleanses the palate and leaves a cool, refreshing aftertaste. The Entrées Soft Shell Crab Pasta (Mì Cua Lột) Pure decadence. Golden, shatteringly crisp soft-shell crab overflowing with sweet meat paired with perfectly al dente noodles. The pasta comes thoroughly enrobed in a velvety garlic beurre monte infused with delicate lemongrass, delivering incredible richness without feeling heavy. Whole Fried Moi (Cá Chiên) -- The Star of the Night If you know, you know. Moi holds a legendary place in Hawaiian culinary history as the coveted "Fish of Kings," and seeing it featured here was an instant highlight. Chao's execution is flawless. Filleted and fried to golden perfection, it offers a dramatic textural contrast: a crackling, crispy outer skin giving way to buttery, melt-in-your-mouth tender white meat. Accompanied by a sweet and spicy nước chấm dipping sauce, every bite seamlessly ties together crunch, salinity, and bright citrus-chili notes. The Sweet Finale Pumpkin Flan To wrap up the evening, we shared their seasonal Pumpkin Flan. Conceptually, it drinks more like a sophisticated, deconstructed pumpkin pie--featuring a velvety custard paired with buttery, spiced crumble on the side and a scoop of rich ice cream. The warmth of the spices against the silky texture of the flan made for an exceptional finale to an already stellar meal. Final Thoughts Chao is executing modern Vietnamese fare with immense care, precision, and flair. Between the vibrant atmosphere, thoughtful beverage offerings, and standout seafood execution, this establishment has earned a permanent spot in our regular dining rotation.

Chao- a Vietnamese fusion restaurant. Sounded interesting so we went for a date night…read more RESERVATIONS-They were easy to make on open table but you should make them way ahead of time if you're looking for a particular time slot. PARKING- the lot was absolute madness. I guess between Chao and Shinso tei(the bar next door), it gets busy. But I'm sure residents in the stress must use the lot too because I can't imagine that huge lot being full from 2 establishments. The lot was still full when we left at 9, after Starbucks was closed and I doubt oreillys has that big of a customer base that late at night. RESTAURANT-the interior has beautiful lamps and wallpaper. SERVICE-we arrived about half an hour early and the host tried his best to try to seat us right away but after we saw the panic in his face, we assured him that we know we are early and can wait outside. He was very apologetic and grateful. Our waitress was great and our water was always getting filled (a sign of great service) DRINKS- husband got a Pinot Noir and I got the coconut matcha cloud. Both yummy! MENU- the menu isn't huge but it was still difficult to choose. But, we ordered the seafood ceviche and Spanish octopus for pupus. The ceviche was great, it had coconut milk in it which was different and lovely. The Spanish octopus was a whole tako leg. They gave us a knife to cut it, but no fork. I think it looks nice plated whole but also think the restaurant should consider slicing it instead because the tako was harder than I expected. For entrees- we wanted the pork belly but they were out so we ordered the crab pasta and brisket beef stew with noodles added. The pasta came with 2 fried soft shell crab and the pasta itself was cooked perfectly al dente and the sauce was creamy. My husband enjoyed his stew which also came with a crispy baguette. For dessert, we ordered the butter mochi with nice to net you corn ice cream. The mochi was grilled and had a firmer texture than most butter mochi but you could taste the char which I really enjoyed. It was just a little hard to cut while trying to keep the ice cream balanced on top. The next time we go, we'll try the pork belly and lobster dinner roll, which our friend says is the best.

We ordered a bunch of stuff but most notable was the Ensalada Salad, Croquette Cordero, Taco Raisu, Karaage Pollo, and for dessert, the Piña Borracha. We ordered some pork and steak skewers. These were ok, I would skip these next time. A little burnt. My favorite was the Ensalada Salad. The crab was sweet and the salsa opaca was so refreshing with the apple foam. Was told to smash the crisp on top and combine it with everything and that took it to another level! So good that we ordered another one. The price of this was so affordable too! The Croquette Cordero was like a mini curry ball with chimuchirri sauce. A little heavy but if you love curry, this is for you! The Taco Raisu surprised us. The taco meat was so flavorful!! It was so tangy and refreshing, which perfectly cuts through the rich, savory oiliness of the fried chicken. We got the Piña Borracha for dessert and that had a coconut cake, coconut lime mousse, banana lilikoi curd, and pasted pineapple on top. Amazing!! Great way to end the night. The experience left us feeling unwelcome, particularly because it seemed the staff were uncomfortable with two men simply going out for lunch. We can overlook mediocre food or service, but feeling judged or unwelcome is something we won't overlook. We were there as paying customers and deserved to be treated with the same courtesy and respect as anyone else. Unfortunately, this is a place we won't be returning to, and based on our experience, we would not recommend it to others.

Became a fan of Chef Kajioka after dining at Cafe Miro in January. As we were planning a trip back…read morein August for the wifey's bday, I definitely wanted to head back and made reservations for The Counter as I saw pics on IG of their meal here. We lucked out and found street parking nearby. As we walked into the restaurant, we were quickly greeted by the host/server who showed us to our seats along the U shaped counter. Loved the clean and modern decor inside the restaurant. As we sat down, our water cups were quickly filled and the only few questions they had for us was whether we wanted the wine pairing and we wanted to add the caviar toast and shaved truffles. We opted for the wine pairing, caviar toast and truffles. The meal was fantastic from start to finish. The most notable dishes for me were the ahi and caviar toast, cold corn soup, the lobster and the dessert. Sadly the portion of the toast here was about 1/2 the size of what we had at the cafe and unfortunately they didn't have uni for the night (maybe don't go on a Tuesday). Service was fantastic but they did have a few hiccups which were tolerable as the food was amazing. The wine pairing was also good and paired well with the dishes. As we are currently planning our trip back later this year, we will definitely head back to either the cafe (if the remodel is completed) or back to the counter for another meal. This is likely the best meal we've had in HNL in quite some time and highly recommend it.

Miro Kaimuki - The Counter: An elegant, intimate experience that, sadly, left a lot to be desired…read more The service was great but I had a few qualms which influenced my decision of probably not returning. A couple things about Miro: - You have to pre-pay via OpenTable (unsure how it works if you call ahead), but just be aware you will be fronting the cost. Also, there are two seatings, one at 5pm, and one at 7:30pm. The 5pm seating is $165 per person and the 7:30pm seating is $195. I'm not sure if there is a menu difference but just know there is a difference in price depending on the time you choose. - Upon arrival you have to wait outside before being let inside. The restaurant locks the doors while they are in service, so if you are the 2nd seating (which is what we were) at 7:30pm, you will have to wait outside. Honestly my girlfriend and I were pretty confused as we've never had this experience before. We even tried to message/call the restaurant but didn't hear from them so we were close to leaving, but luckily some people were leaving from the earlier seating and let us know to wait outside and that the servers would let us in when the time comes. Now onto the most important part- the food. The menu was 6 courses (not including the bread). We got all of the add-ons and I also did the wine pairing. There wasn't any menu available but here's what I got based on photos: - First Course: 4 starters which reminded me of Bar Maze. This was probably the best course for me. I really wish I knew the names of each dish but it was an oyster, salmon tart, another tart (I think this was tomato or something), and ikura toast. All of it was super tasty. - Second Course: Ahi, Caviar, and Uni all on top of their special toasted bread. Now I am a big proponent of all three toppings, but the bread was so rich and dense, it overpowered all of the toppings. I felt the uni went best with the toast, but definitely not my favorite to start a meal so heavy. - Third Course: Almost like a bacon carbonara but without any pasta? It was kind of like a custard texture. It was good but felt a little out of place in the whole grand scheme of the tasting menu. - Bread: I don't count this as a course but we were served this beautiful baked bread with honey butter. Super yummy. - Fourth Course: Lobster - which, of course was tasty but not memorable for me. - Fifth Course: I can't remember if this was wagyu but this was also pretty good. Pretty small for an entree but the meat was cooked well and the presentation was very nice. - 6th Course: There were two desserts and one complimentary dessert for my birthday. The orange creamsicle dessert was the best one. My girlfriend and I didn't like the gummies as they were a bit too sour/savory for our taste (it was li hing flavored which isn't my favorite so I could be biased). The birthday dessert which was a dark chocolate cake thing- it was OK. The cocoa was a bit bitter and was a little too unsweet for our taste. Overall, I think Miro was just okay. For the cost of $195 per person + the wine pairing (which I believe was another $95), and the add-on's for both of us (~$60-70?) plus my girlfriends mocktail, this came out to a very steep $550+ dinner. I feel for 6 courses this is pretty overpriced, especially because the portions are super small and I don't feel the tasting menu was very cohesive. I would definitely rather go to NatuRe, Mugen, or Senia as they are relatively close (or at times cheaper) in price to Miro. Don't get me wrong, the ambiance was beautiful and intimate, and I think it's worth trying at least once if you want to splurge, but sadly this won't be a restaurant I return to regularly, if at all in the future.

We started with pillowy soft HOKKAIDO MILK ROLLS alongside the refreshing SCALLOP CARPACCIO. The pasta courses each stood out on its own right. DAN MIEN VIETNAM-ATRICIANA, deep and rich savoury sauce on egg noodles was so comforting and delicious we ordered a second one. CAPELLINI GRANCHIO was another crowd favourite. The thin capellini were perfect strands for this dish. It could use more crabmeat though. GNOCCHI MABOLOGNESE, this was a clever fusion of mapo tofu with gnocchi mimicking tofu in a hot sauce. I'm not a fan of gnocchi much more tender gnocchi in this dish. Two Donburi dishes - Veal and Mushroom - stood out with the addition of pop rice. Grated truffle was very generous. We ended with both desserts on the menu. Every single dish hit the mark, and sharing everything family-style across six people was the perfect way to experience the menu. Fantastic cooking, great atmosphere, and an absolute must-visit.

My bad review is entirely based on how terrible the food was. For context, we ordered Tonkatsu…read moreramen and Tsukemen dipping ramen. Ramen, according to the server, was the most popular thing on the menu, so how likely could it get messed up? Tonkatsu: Rich, but lacked any salt or had very little. We requested some salt and that instantly made the ramen better. The noodles had enough salt to carry it, but the broth was not great. It tasted like the broth was watered down or reconstituted, however no seasoning was added to re-adjust the broth. Broth: Had little salt and lacked punch, umami, and was brown instead of white. Noodles: Had enough salt to taste good, but was slightly overcooked Pork: Extremely bland. Tasted like zero salt was added during cooking. Toppings: Greatly lacking in toppings Tsukemen: The Tsukemen had a lot of the same issues. Now being a dipping ramen, the broth should be even richer and more flavorful than any normal ramen. Tsukemen -- no matter where you have it in Japan, should be richer and saltier than most broths, but the broth here was severely lacking. For $26 a bowl this was worse than your DIY frozen ramen packs. Now I'm not asking for Japan-level of ramen mastery here, this is after all, just a tourist spot -- but if your Tonkatsu is the best selling item, you have to step it up. Our server did mention that some people complained about the amount of salt in ramen, so they adjusted it. But dare I say, instead of diluting the normal salt/seasoning amount for everyone, couldn't you just add a separate, flavor-light version for people inexperienced with ramen, instead of diluting the original for everyone else? If you're reading this Mr. Morimoto, I would highly encourage you to fly here and order the ramen. I think you and I would share the same opinions. P.S. I've also been to your other Morimoto spots and it was not this bad.
