"Nepali vs Indian food" While there are many similarities, Nepali food is generally deemed less spicy both in heat level and flavor. We noticed less flavor than we've typically experienced and love from Indian restaurants we've tried in the past. We thought complimentary pappadum tasted as if it had been sitting for a while, and the chutneys just didn't have the zing we've grown accustomed to. We both ordered a fish dish and it was solid. Service was pleasant and accommodating. Restaurant itself is small, and quarters are a big tight. Business was brisk and it appears to be a fan favorite. Not sure if we had a one off experience, or if we prefer a different flavor profile. If I'm in the area I might try again.

This is one of the best Indian restaurants I've visited, and its location right on Fayetteville Street in downtown Raleigh makes it an easy and inviting stop in the heart of the city. The dining room offers full waiter service, with booths and tables arranged around a central take-out ordering and pickup area. It creates a lively, welcoming atmosphere that works equally well for dine-in guests and those grabbing food to go. The menu features Nepalese and Indian cuisine, including vegetarian and seafood options. We began with Mustang Cauliflower and Chicken Chili as appetizers. Both dishes were packed with bold flavor, excellent texture, and just the right amount of heat. I appreciated being able to choose the spice level, and each dish delivered a satisfying balance of warmth, seasoning, and freshness. The cauliflower was perfectly cooked--crisp on the outside and tender inside--while the chicken chili had a deep, savory flavor that lingered pleasantly. For entrées, I ordered the Saag Paneer at medium heat, and my dining partner chose the Chicken Vindaloo. Both arrived steaming hot and beautifully presented, accompanied by rice. The Saag Paneer was rich, earthy, and comforting, with tender paneer throughout, while the Vindaloo had a bold, well-developed spice profile that was robust without being overwhelming. We each enjoyed a Mango Lassi, which was cool, smooth, and refreshing--an ideal contrast to the spices. I ordered the Cheese Naan, and my guest had the Garlic Naan. The Cheese Naan deserves special mention: warm, indulgent, and wonderfully unique. It was easily one of the standout items of the meal, and I would happily return just for that naan alone--if I didn't enjoy everything else so much. A truly excellent meal from start to finish, and a place I look forward to visiting again.

Mustang house was an interesting experience! The food was good. Our server was incredibly attentive.. chicken tikka masala was well executed, as was the golbi appetizer. The paratha was slightly more dry than we are used to. And the fruits filled nan was tasty however it was made with more processed ingredients than we had expected. Upon arrival, the ambience and setting was interesting, it definitely feels more like a takeout place than a full restaurant and could benefit from warmer lighting and more thoughtful decor. Overall, we would return again if we were in the area.

Free stater (didn't get the name of the crispy, flavorful wafer) with chutneys, garlic naan, lamb stuffed naan, Mustang curry chicken.

Food was 5/5. Waiter asked if we wanted it out as it was done or all together. The portions are shareable enough so we wanted it as it was coming off the stove, honey. Mustang chicken with basmati rice, Lamb stuffed naan, garlic naan . vegetable samosas with 3 different chutneys, mango lassie, fresh lemonade, and jhol chicken Momo. And every dish was good. ‍ I feel neutral about the Ambiance. They did what they could to elevate a plain room with dining tables and chairs, place settings and water goblets. It was a nice touch but the setup didn't sway my mood any more positively. Maybe a nice coat of paint, a host stand, some wall art and different place mats. Music was fire now that elevated my mood. Very clean from what I paid attention.

I expected this to be a highbrow place, but it's quite casual and is across from the convention center. I don't know where the name comes from, but this is a Nepali restaurant, and it is a really good one. Not only was my food fresh and dynamic in flavor, I received excellent service. When a free papadum with three sauces was delivered to my table, they noted which sauce I liked the best (the chili sauce) and brought me an extra bowl of it without asking. And what the hell, I just went and dumped it on everything else. Not that this was really necessary. While I could have ordered soybeans or a salad or something, I thought their potatoes would be really well prepared and I was right. Whole peppercorns and some leaves were stir-fried in with those delicious potatoes. A classic of Nepali cuisine, the momos I ordered were among the most delightful dumplings I've ever had, being perfectly soft in texture and hearty in flavor, including the spicy soup I ordered them to be served in. A chai came thankfully unsweetened. The bathroom could use a little renovation, but to have gotten this food at this price, I could hardly complain. The food is what matters to me, and that was some quality spicy vegetarian cuisine.

One year ago, I took my now wife here for our first date. Today, we came back to celebrate our…read moreone-year anniversary, and the experience was just as special as we remembered. The staff could not have been more accommodating. Our waitress, Katie, was incredibly friendly and attentive, and the manager, Sammy, went out of her way to make us feel welcome. The chef even came over to introduce himself, which was a really nice touch. We also learned during our visit that the restaurant has recently been recognized by Michelin, very well deserved. Won't be surprised if they get their first star in the coming months. Definitely save room for the desserts, I've never tasted anything like it. A perfect place for a special night, and it'll always mean a lot to us since it's where our story started. We'll be back soon.

I made a reservation for four adults and my one-year-old through OpenTable, expecting a pleasant…read moredining experience. Instead, we were met at the host stand and immediately informed of a "no children under five" policy. This was presented not as an unfortunate misunderstanding, but as an oversight on our part, with staff insisting we should have known because it appears on their website. The issue, however, is that the reservation was made through OpenTable, where no such policy is disclosed. Even after the fact, I checked the restaurant's website and found the policy buried under a separate "policies" tab--not exactly front-and-center, and difficult to miss unless you were actively searching for it. Expecting guests to intuit or independently verify hidden policies, especially when booking through a third-party platform, feels unreasonable. More disappointing than the policy itself was the tone with which it was communicated. The interaction felt cold, dismissive, and entirely lacking in hospitality. We were told that the manager could be asked, but by that point, we already felt quite unwelcome. Restaurants are, of course, entitled to set their own policies--but how those policies are communicated matters just as much. Unfortunately, this experience left us feeling unwelcome and chastised rather than valued as guests. We will not be returning.

Second time I've had Indian food and it's much better than my first experience. Food was fresh, and the waiter was pretty attentive. We sat outside and the ambiance wasn't too bad but they should have some music playing inside/outside. Food 8/10 chicken could be a little bit moist for the buttered chicken but overall I'm happy! Will be coming back here for sure, it has so much potential and I'm looking forward to it.

If you're looking for Indian food in Raleigh that delivers on both flavor and overall experience,…read moreSoul Flavorscapes of India is an easy recommendation. This is a 5-star restaurant, but not in a formal, special-occasion sense. It's a more approachable kind of 5: thoughtful, well-executed, and genuinely enjoyable. The kind of place you can go for a relaxed dinner or to host friends from out of town, and still feel confident in the quality of the experience. I went with my husband and a family friend who was visiting, and it was a great setting for catching up. The ambiance strikes a nice balance between polished and comfortable. I especially liked the rich blue tones inside and the overhead lanterns, which give the space a warm, inviting feel. There's also a outdoor patio, though at 96 degrees, we opted to sit inside. I'll admit I didn't do a great job capturing photos, but everything we ordered was excellent. We started with samosas, veg pakora, and beet cutlets (which my husband hadn't had since moving to the U.S. for grad school over a decade ago). We also ordered a mango lassi, the bread basket, malai kofta, balti chicken, and lamb biryani. A few highlights: Portions are generous The spice levels are accurate "medium" and "medium hot" both had a noticeable level of heat, which isn't always the case locally The lamb biryani stood out (my husband said it's the best biriyani he's had in North Carolina) Service was also great. The owner stopped by our table multiple times and was warm and engaging. She even shared how to make a strawberry lassi with our friend, which was a thoughtful touch. One practical note: the restaurant is downtown, and there's a surface parking lot directly next to it that uses ParkMobile, which makes parking straightforward. We're already planning to return.
