We came on a Friday evening and had about a 20-minute wait, but it was absolutely worth it once we were seated. Service stood out right away. Our waiter checked on us regularly and made sure our water glasses were always full, which is a small thing but goes a long way during a busy night. We started with ginger tea, which was warm, fragrant, and a great way to kick off the meal. For food, we ordered two appetizers, along with the chicken korma and butter chicken, and everything was phenomenal. The flavors were rich and comforting. One detail I appreciated was that the rice came in individual servings instead of one large shared bowl, which made it easier for everyone at the table. It's been a while since I had Nepali food so I was stoked to see that there's a small, family-owned restaurant here in Cary, NC. Himalayan Nepali Cuisine is located in a little strip so there is plenty of room for parking and I love how there's a Tibetan/Himalayan gift shop right next door! Right when we walked in, we were seated and served some warm sweet ginger tea and papad which is a thin/crispy Nepali flatbread-cracker. We ordered the following: Chicken Momo Nepali Chicken Curry Garlic Naan Everything was delicious! The chicken filling inside the momo was yummy and the curry sauce was slightly tangy and spicy from the tomatoes and chilis. The only thing I wish was different was the temperature- the momo's were a little lukewarm so I wish it was higher in temperature but this was still a solid dish! The Nepali Chicken Curry also had that spicy/tangy flavor from all the ingredients and spices. The chicken pieces were juicy, tender, and went well with the rice and garlic naan. Speaking of naan, this was my sister and I's favorite. The naan was crispy on the outside with a nice chewiness on the inside. And the garlic seasoning on top was just *chef's kiss*. I came here for the first time last week and the owner was super welcoming. It looks like a family business but it was clean and cozy. The food was delicious! The garlic nan was flavorful, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, the goat curry was flavorful and not gamey at all, the Momo was delicious as well. I wasn't blown away by the experience or the food, but it definitely is good quality South Asian cuisine. They serve ginger tea while you are waiting for your food, which is one shwae thing they have going for them:) The portion sizes were a little smaller than I expected for the price, but again, the main dishes we ordered did not disappoint. The restaurant is located in the corner of an older Plaza complex by downtown Cary. It is a small restaurant and so it is the best to call in advance to reserve a table when we arrived at around 5:45 PM on Saturday, the restaurant was packed. We were seated immediately and handed our menus. They provide water and warm tea on arrival. Within a few minutes our waiter came. He was very attentive and helped us with our food choices. What was nice about the menu is that they inform us of the food allergen associated with each meal. The appetizer arrived not too long after we ordered our meal. Our main courses arrive shortly after the food was delicious and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal. It is our first visit to this restaurant and certainly not our last. We got some take out with friends, and we ordered the following: Vegetable Samosas - good flavor, no real complaints about them. Lamb Mango Curry - nice big chunks of lamb, but the sauce was a bit too sweet for me. Saag Paneer - this was probably my favorite dish, because it's less spinach-y and more creamy than most saag paneers. It had great flavor too. Chicken Tandoori - the chicken was unfortunately dry and I wasn't too impressed by it. Chicken Kadai - I liked the spice level of the rice, and the chicken was tender, moist, and well marinated. Garlic Naan - not much flavor, and a bit dry and flaky for my liking. It came with white basmati rice. For the price, the value and amount of food we got was good. I am open to returning to try different dishes, but probably won't be getting the Chicken Tandoori again. Also, we placed the order over the phone, and then went to pick up our order about 20 minutes later, only to have to wait at the restaurant another 20 minutes for our food. The service here is incredible every time we go; our cups are always filled with their delicious house-made complimentary, sweet yet spiced, Nepali black tea (I love this tea so much that I have to ask for a refill to go), the waiter always has amazing suggestions for dishes depending on our mood, plus every dish I have at Himalayan Nepali Cuisine is phenomenal. Our Chili Chicken appetizer (spice level 3 out of 7) is my new obsession. The chicken bites are fried to perfection and tossed in a chili pepper based sauce with peppers and onion (OMG so good). I loved how massive the veggie samosas were; truly a meal in itself. It paired well with the cilantro based sauce and even better with the side of chilli sauce. The outside was crispy and the inside was almost fluffy with massed potatoes and various root veggies and spices. I had steamed chicken mono for the first time and I think I'm hooked. I loved how each dumpling was steamed well and filled with a mixture of ground chicken, spices and came with a side of chutney. I tried out this restaurant and was VERY impressed with the portion sizes and cost. We got several appetizers at our table as well as entrees and our bill was very reasonable. I really enjoyed the Gobi Manchurian appetizer and the dumplings. We also got the naan and the portions were, again, generous. We got 2 orders for 3 people and had several extra slices. We got the butter chicken and the chicken tikka Marsala. Unfortunately, neither entree had a ton of flavor/spices which was surprising. The portion sizes were generous but flavoring was a little bland. My 4 starts is for the cost/portion and cleanliness but the lack of flavor on entrees kept it from being a 5 star experience. Easily the best Indian (or Indian adjacent) food in the triangle. Very vegan and vegetarian friendly, with allergens clearly labeled on all menu items. The ginger lemon tea is perfect and especially crave-able on chilly days. They offer a spice level of 1-7 with 3 being a perfect medium for me. I particularly love the chili fried momos, Chana masala, and garlic naan. A friend who I eat here with often is partial to the saag paneer. The thali is also a great value at lunch time if you want to sample a little bit of everything. My only gripe is that it's a 25ish minute drive from my house. They started us off with a basket of lentil crackers and marinaded chopped onions along with hot spiced tea, complimentary. Wow. We ordered the Nepalese Boneless Chicken, Boneless Lamb Vindaloo and a side of garlic naan. Both dishes were spiced exactly as requested, the meats tender and potatoes perfectly cooked in the Vindaloo. The garlic naan, a recommendation by the server was just right for dipping in the sauce adding a nice crunchy juxtaposition for the soft meat and accompanying side of long rice. The service was polite and I noticed how helpful staff were in helping a young couple with the baby seat. The bathroom was clean although shared (male and female,) which is to be expected in a restaurant with such a small footprint. We are looking forward to visiting here again soon, as well as occasionally getting take out. read more

Came here a few months back and absolutely loved this place! The restaurant is clean and plenty of seating inside, with a very casual feel to it. Had no idea Nepalese food was so good and flavorful. They really cater to different eating preferences such as many seafood, chicken, lamb, vegetarian and vegan options, their menu certainly reflects that. For apps we picked up the 6 Vegetable Pakora-fried but not oily at all, but delicious! Nepali Style chili potato-good flavor and spice. For main courses, the Nepali Style Chana Masala and Nepali Tarkari, both very good flavor and spice-delicious! Many of their main courses come with Basmati rice which is cooked very well and fluffy! We are big on getting good customer service wherever we go and the service has been excellent both times we've been here. The govi manchurian had a light, crisp batter and the sauce was perfectly sweet and tangy. The chili fried momo was amazing, and is one of our new favorite dishes. The Nepali chicken curry was homey and inviting, with a lovely gingery tomato sauce. The lamb korma, peshwari naan, and gulab jamun were all nice as well. I genuinely don't understand all the high ratings. Yes, the complimentary ginger lemon tea is lovely (although too sweet by half) and the papadams are tasty (because they always are) but that's about it. Chili fried momos - Okay, but that's about it. Some flavor from the tomato sauce but not much else, including heat. Inoffensive. Lamb Korma - The best of the lot but that's not saying much. Mango Lamb - Waaaay too sweet. I obviously don't object to fruit with meat but the amount of added sugar was excessive and unnecessary. Chicken Vindaloo - Ordered as a 5 out of 7 spice-wise, it was more like a 1 or 2 out of 7. Vindaloo should burn your socks off. This dish was unrecognizable as vindaloo. No heat, no vinegar flavor, too much cinnamon, and to add insult to injury, the chicken appeared to be cut up leftover tandoori chicken (complete with red dyed outside) just tossed with the sauce. Garlic Naan - Meh. The food was fresher than your average AYCE Indian buffet but it was certainly no better tasting. Two stars because the prices were reasonable and the service was good. read more
