    9. Chana Masala

Overall, I am not a big fan of the food hall. It's just not the best place for a date or catching up with friends because it is so noisy and crowded. However, if you're downtown doing something with a group and want to grab a quick meal with options for everyone it's the place to go. I've tried most of the vendors at Transfer Company but had not had Chhote so decided to give it a try last night. I ordered the Chana Masala and husband the Chicken Tikka Masala. Food was ready super quick and portion sizes were generous. Mine was very flavorful. Husband's had lots of sauce, perfect for all the rice, and was an average Tikka Masala. If you're craving quick Indian food not a bad place to grab some.

I had the taste for Indian food and didn't want to pay an arm and leg to cure my craving so I found this spot inside Transfer Food Hall. The prices are reasonable and portions and nice. They offer various specials which they post for viewing. I ordered Chicken Tikka Masala and Samosas. The samosas were huge but very lukewarm almost cold and the chicken tikka masala was plentiful yet kind of bland. The chunks of chicken were huge so no complaint there but I wish I could taste more spices and flavors. If ever in the area again I would give them a go and try another dish.

Excellent shrimp tikka masala and naan bread! Service was fast and friendly. Would definitely eat here again while in Raleigh!

Great food and awesome service . It feels good to get Great customer every time we come here. They always welcome you with a smile.

Lunch here today was good! It's Indian street food, and the menu is short. I chose two items from the small eats section--samosas and chicken kathi rolls, which were described to me as "Indian tacos." Both were nicely spicy and tasty, but the kathi rolls were enough on their own. I wound up taking a samosa home. My friend enjoyed his huge lamb dosa and managed to eat the whole thing. The service was quick and friendly, and the restaurant was clean. Windows surround the kitchen, so you can watch them work. I heard another patron say that it used to be a Char-Grill, and that was pretty obvious in the decor--it looks like they kept it the way it was (including tables and chairs) and just changed the signs. We would have liked to see more choices on the menu and more compostable containers. Also, the drink machine was broken, but water was fine with that spicy food.

Place is definitely good, but second time around I was less enthusiastic about it. Still a solid 3.5

    Chicken Tikka Masala

Simple menu at Raleighs Transfer Co. Food Hall. Large portions, chicken tikka masala was excellent. Garlic naan and vegetable samosa's also really good! Service was very personable and good. The Food Hall had a fun atmosphere. Very enjoyable place to visit.

Great food and friendly service. Came here for lunch Ordered the Shrimp Tikka Masala Servicing sizes are plentiful. The sauce is creamy, fresh and well seasoned. Meal was made to order. The staff is very attentive and the kitchen area was very clean which is critical. Highly recommend visiting I will definitely frequent this establishment when in the area.

The Indian food here was average. We tried a chai, the naan, chana masala and samosa chaat. The food was just okay, I was disappointed for the amount of naan we got for the price. There are a ton of food options inside Transfer, this unfortunately would not be one of my first choices.

Super tasty and a great addition to Transfer Food Hall! I knew I had to order the bison momos after Nancy T was raving about them. They definitely did not disappoint! They were flavorful and delicious. It was my first time having momoms so I don't have anything to compare them to, but I just know they were tasty. I also enjoyed the naan and samosas we ordered as well. I'd love to give some of their entrees a try next time. We also gave the Thumbs Up soft drink a try and that wasn't for me. It's one of the most popular soft drinks in India, it was Pepsi-esque. I like that they have it as an option though and am always up for trying something new. I'm looking forward to eating here again!

Very happy a non-chain restaurant opened up in Garner. We stopped for a quick dinner & were very pleased with our order. We shared onion bajji, samosas, chana masala, spring masala dosa & naan. Everything was great & tasted fresh. The naan was good, but I don't think it was housemade, but I could be wrong. It was still tasty, but fresh housemade naan is ahmazing. Service was friendly & quick. We sat on the patio in gorgeous weather enjoying our tasty Indian street food.

I'm so happy that Garner finally has an Indian restaurant and it's legit good! I've spent a lot of time in India, so am picky about having really good Indian food. Don't let the location fool you, they are serving up amazing street food from Chicken tikka masala to samosas to dosas and naan, there's something for everyone. I would have gone back just for the food, but all of the staff were so amazing, happy to be there and were excited to share their ideas for new things coming! I hope everyone goes and keeps this local business thriving, it was a missing piece and I'm so happy it's here!

Good taste and I liked the counter service. The dosa could have been a little crispier but otherwise delicious with Sambar.

Everything about this locale is intentional: the lighting, the decor, the colors... it's truly the perfect date spot. I'd like to recognize Sam Sanchez at the bar, who guided me from cocktail to entree and beyond for my eventual second visit while in Raleigh. He listened closely to my taste preferences, and his recommendations were flawless (although I can't imagine ANYTHING on the menu isn't delightful). On my first visit I started with the Byadgi Chili Shrimp and then feasted on the Lamb Sheekh Kebab. The shrimp texture was just right and the coconut sauce is a perfect compliment. The lamb kebab comes in two separate pieces; one is wrapped in naan and the other is naked. The chili beurre blanc sauce has a kick that I really enjoyed! And my favorite: Dal-e Tamasha, 24 hours slow cooked black lentil. My mouth is watering even as I think about it. You might think something as humble as lentils could not make one's heart race... but you would be wrong. My second visit saw me reunited with my dear Dal-e Tamasha plate and what became the pinnacle of my visit to Raleigh: MUSHROOM "MADE IN HEAVEN" dish. It is difficult to describe how AMAZING every bite is. There is a complexity of flavors that somehow blend AND standout. Each nibble of the dumpling and a bit of risotto along a sip of the "umami bomb" is an experience. I am actually very glad I was sitting on the patio dining solo because I was able to give my full attention to this experience. To wrap it all up, I was fortunate enough to try the pink guave lemon lime and tahin sorbet... don't snooze on it, it's a must try! A big shout out to the Tamasha team, owner Mike (thank you for checking on me and chatting up spices and culture!), and Chef Chhatwani for sharing your passion with the world. I can't WAIT to return to Raleigh and visit again.

Tamasha definitely has a unique spin on their Indian cuisines, which correlates with the prices of their dishes. I'd say if you're trying to impress a date or wanting to splurge a bit, Tamasha is definitely your go-to restaurant for dinner**! I don't believe they're open for lunch. While it is pricey here, the ambiance of the restaurant is top notch, so you're definitely paying for an experience! The person at the front desk was super kind and helped me look into which dishes were fine for takeout (there are some items that wouldn't fair well eaten later or packed in a to-go container). The only dish I found myself liking the most would be their tamasha fried chicken. It was breaded nicely and had a refreshing yogurt based dip. The rest of the dishes, such as the tandoori mushroom and butter chicken, and crab moilee (not pictured), were okay. I didn't hate it or like it, but it just didn't pop out in flavor as Indian cuisine for me. The four cheese truffle kulcha (not pictured) was a nice carb appetizer! I was quite surprised at how small the tandoori mushroom dish was. It was just one ravioli cut in half! Still, I guess quality over quantity! I also never figured out which dish the white noodles were supposed to be paired with... Also, if you do takeout, they have a lovely seating area with AC (thank goodness) for folks to sit in. It was nice waiting there for my order to be complete! Overall, it was a 3-3.5 star takeout experience for me.

I had missed this on the menu, but my dosa with spiced powder inside did not come with potatoes or anything; it still was a nice flavor but not as substantive as I was hoping for the price. Thankfully, I did get a mango lime tofu dish that was bursting with flavor and also very filling, as well as a bread on the side that underwhelmed and didn't have much of the spiced potatoes as advertised (what do you have to do to get potatoes in your food here?). Overall, a nice location, but the food was a bit mixed in quality and not quite what I'd hoped for at the price. Particularly when one considers how many Indian restaurants there are around here. "Nepalese and Indian food in downtown Raleigh, near Marriott"…read more With a great location, this is VERY close to the Raleigh Convention Center. We arrived on a Thursday night at 6pm with a group of 5. The dining area didn't really accommodate a group that size, but they made it work by moving tables around, which was nice. The place was not very large, but there was maybe only one other family eating inside. The bathroom was clean. I split two dishes with my son-- salmon tikka masala and shrimp (prawn) saag, both coming with rice. We were given some papadum, I think, as a snack as we waited on the food, along with some spicy dips. Food came in maybe 10 minutes or so, which was great timing. However, I have to say, both dishes we tried were underwhelming. The shrimp was oddly translucent and not very flavorful in its dish, and the spinach in the saag wasn't especially tasty (though it did have a nice spiciness). The tikka masala sauce was great, but the salmon also was pretty underwhelming. We both said we'd probably just get chicken next time and not splurge the extra for the salmon. No dish was "bad", but just we expected them to be delicious and they were just OK. I'm just really surprised given how many people said this was the "best Indian" they'd had. The staff were friendly-- refilled drinks well and were good at answering questions. And the price was reasonable. Altogether, I'll give it 4 stars given the great location, good service, good price, but not 5 given the food was "just OK". Realistically, I probably wouldn't go back-- we have lots of great Indian in Durham and Chapel Hill, so I'd rather wait and get that.
