What good can come out of confusion over a party (group) size at a restaurant? Amazing food, endless laughs and impeccable service, that's what! This was the suggested dinner spot after attending an afternoon dance recital and it was a perfect end to the day.
Murphy's reminded me a little bit of Logan's Roadhouse or City Barbecue in the layout and decor. As you enter the door you come to the hostess stand along with a couple padded benches and chairs in case of a wait. In our case, we had called ahead and put our name and group size on the list, but unbeknownst to us they had mixed up the seating list and put our name on last night's list so when we all arrived they did not have a table ready for us! No problem, though; we weren't in a hurry so we waited the 10 minutes they told us it would be before a table was ready, and then promptly were seated.
Our server, Amy, came right away to take drink orders and oh my goodness, was she hilarious! She was full of energy, friendly and so attentive. She is one of those people who loves her job (according to her) and sets out to make people smile and give them a good experience. You just can't be having a bad day when you are around her. She brought our drinks out and took our dinner orders. While we waited for our meals we munched on appetizers of Pubhouse pretzels--soft baked pretzels with warm queso cheese and house mustard sauce, and shrimp cocktail--jumbo shrimp with tangy cocktail sauce. Both were delicious! They have sandwiches, burgers, soups/meaty chili, salads, appetizers including onion rings, fried mushrooms, shrimp cocktail and mozzarella sticks, desserts, an extensive chidren's menu, entrees, steak, seafood--just about everything.
I ordered the breaded fish sandwich, a whitefish served on a crisp bun with lettuce, tomato, pickles and onions on the side, a choice of chips or fries (I had the fries), and tartar sauce on the side. The fries were seasoned perfectly and the fish was cooked to a beautiful golden brown. All of it was SO good. The fish was just about as big as many restaurant tenderloins and I don't think anyone expected me to finish it, but I did! Oh by the way, you have the option of adding a slice of cheese to the sandwich...do it!! Amy asked me if I wanted some, which I wouldn't have even thought of for a fish sandwich. But I love adventure and trying new things so I said go for it! Yummm. It added such a good, rich flavor and just completed the sandwich for me. I told Amy I was going to try to get other restaurants to make the addition. :-)
The restaurant itself has a sports pub feel to it, with big screen TVs and a bar area, as well as both tall and short tables, and booths. It can get loud, I'm guessing more during big sporting events and races, but it is a fun atmosphere and not so loud and busy that you can't have normal conversation. This is just a great, family-friendly place with delicious food and the promise of amazing service and a wonderful time.
