We went to Murphy's for what we hoped would be an upscale dinner. My mother-in-law and father-in-law dined there before and enjoyed themselves. Our experience was not the same. It was only saved by a very friendly and very gracious server and manager. We made a reservation the day before, but when I called to confirm the time they did not have it. Fortunately they were able to get us in at the same time. When we arrived we were seated immediately. My wife and her mother both ordered the recommended cabernet sauvignon. A few sips in and they independently chose to send them back. The server was very understanding. My mother-in-law tried one of their summer specialty drinks a pear blossom mojito. She said it was good but didn't taste very much like a mojito. It was 7:30 mid-way through the dinner service and yet they were already out of the rotisserie chicken (poor planning in my opinion) so I ordered the salmon it was served with asparagus. The salmon was very tasty. My mother-in-law had the wedge salad and said it was wonderful. My wife ordered the seared ahi. She ate about half and set it aside. It was cold throughout and the seasoning was unpleasant. My mother-in-law tasted it and agreed. (I passed on trying and just reveled in my salmon.) The server was very apologetic and the manager then came over and was likewise apologetic and removed it from the bill. The staff was the truly redeeming grace to the meal. Restaurants in this price range should not have miss on 50% of our items. Looks like lots of other people we having a great meal. I just had to share my experience. read more

Another excellent dinner at Murphy's. We had the prime rib and the grilled scallops, both perfectly prepared and very tasty. Started with glasses of Cabernet and Chardonnay and ended with a pece of their heavenly carrot cake to take home to share. We went to Murphy's on Friday, December 27, 2024 as we were in town for my sister's birthday. We could have gone anywhere (wish we had). We wanted burgers, and our server asked us many questions....how we'd like them cooked... medium rare, etc. and onion, cheese preference...all the usual questions. What we got was a hockey puck on a bun! The burger was so over done, shrunk up to nothing on a giant bun. We waited such a long time, and even asked another server what was going on and was our order coming anytime soon. I wish we had sent the burgers back, but we just were so hungry at this point...we just ate them. It was a huge disappointment. This was the worst meal during our stay in Prescott. Go to Rosa's. Amazing. Murphy's fire your chef immediately or you will be out of biz. This sucked so much and if I come back to your town, and even if I don't and know someone who is going...telling them don't waste your hard earned money for bad service and really bad food. read more

Ordered their prime rib for dinner, end cut and medium well (more on well side) and rosemary mashed potatoes and a house salad . I told waitress if no end cut, I would take a tenderloin filet. Received the prime rib, it was mostly fat from the middle of cut of meat. It was almost raw. Bloody and totally disgusting. The mashed potatoes were ice cold. Never did get my salad. Very poor!!! To be honest, what kept this from being a 2-star rating is that the server was good. We arrived shortly before 5:00 p.m. on Saturday and were able to get seated immediately. The wait staff was prompt and courteous. The food, however, was just OK. Slightly overpriced for what other restaurants in the area charge, especially when one considers the product. My ribs were overcooked, and the baked potato was sub-par. When the butter doesn't melt in the potato right after it arrives, you know it's not that hot. After talking with the manager and her describing their process, I can easily see where the lack of quality control comes in. They split the potato, put the cheese in it, then set it under a heat lamp. The end pieces of my ribs were dry, and "fall off the bone" meat is a sign of covering up not knowing how to properly prepare ribs. Let's just say, Murphy's Law seems to fit in here. Not worth a return trip. read more

After being seated and ordering we waited well over an hour for our dinner. After bringing bread and water our server came by once (at the 30 minute mark) to tell us our food would be coming soon. That was not true. An hour and fifteen minutes is just too long to wait - so we finally stood up to leave (without seeing our server anywhere) and informed the host as we were walking out. The manager spoke with us, but he would not commit to when we would get actual food to eat, so we left - very hungry and very disappointed. Terrible service. Absolutely amazing food! We ordered the sautéed shrimp, which were so flavorful. The mussels in garlic sauce were also delicious and the shrimp cocktail were large and cooked perfectly. Among the guests at our table we had prime rib- mouth watering and flavorful, sea scallops with the bacon bourbon jam. Those were excellent as well! The shrimp added to the pasta primavera were enormous! The Jamaican chicken is also very good. For dessert we had the bread pudding with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top and even after a full meal, we couldn't leave a bite left! where do I begin, 1st the positives, beautiful old building, wood paneling and beveled glass separated the dining area from the bar. my wife had scallops that were excellent, that's the end of the good stuff. i read on their website that mentioned the chef and the sous chef by name. that made me think they were proud of their food, they shouldn't be. the scallops were good but for $41 for 4 scallops and a salad they poured out of a bag seemed a bit excessive. I had the catfish that was deep fried and the French onion soup that tasted like it had a vinegar base. the soup was $12 & not good. what else, oh yea, we waited 45 minutes for the food with the explanation that they just got slammed with orders. there were 9 tables, about a third of the restaurant, 4 of them came in after we were seated. I was looking forward to a great dining experience but that didn't happen. The two stars are for the scallops only. While I added the pics, I remembered the bread they served with the meal, it was a plain hard roll served with too powerful garlic butter-really. I expected better, much better read more

What an amazing, beautiful, and of course historic building! This was an amazing dinner that I brought my daughter and husband to. Beyond what I expected! Prickly pear mojito was so fresh! Ryan was an amazingly friendly and attentive server. Kudos to you, dude! Husband had the Prime Rib and Lobster Tail and OMG whoever was in charge of the Prime Rib that day *chef's kiss* So tender, juicy, and herby! I had the sirloin and it was PERFECTLY medium rare. My daughter had the Chicken Tortilla Soup and pasta primavera and the sauce was perfectly creamy. From the complimentary bread to desert, we will never forget this experience! I ordered rotisserie chicken which was a good sized portion but sadly smothered in bbq sauce. I had green beans (which were fresh and very good) along with garlic mashed potatoes which were cold. My fiancé had prime rib which he said was ok. He ordered a caesars salad and it was drowning in dressing. His side dishes were the same as mine and he had the same opinion of his. The bread that came before dinner was cold. Service was on the slow side but we are trying to take into account the new challenges everyone is facing these days. I ordered the salmon with with the Dill sauce and I have to say, it was the most outstanding piece of salmon ive ever had. the Service was presented by a young lady by the name of Victoria and she was nothing short of professional, attentive and friendly. However the last 2 times were there very disappointing potato skins usually always good were minis with no potato and very little cheese. Calamari was very tiny and mostly breading. Came to Murphy's for the first time today for lunch and enjoyed the food and atmosphere. The restaurant was very large and I loved the decor. I ordered the chicken salad sandwich with a side salad and Arizona sunset. Prices were fair. The AZ sunset not only looked good but tasted good as well. The side salad was a great salad and I loved the crunchy toppings and I recommend ordering the house vinaigrette. The chicken salad sandwich was mediocre. It tasted pretty good but nothing spectacular. I enjoyed it as a one time meal and probably wouldn't order again. Overall I liked the place. My husband and I were celebrating our 49th anniversary it's Valentine's Day but decided to wait til it wasn't so busy and rushed so decided on Murphy's and went on the following Wednesday and I was impressed with the (homemade) lol Pina colada that the bartender made! I wanted prime rib( which I said oh definitely rare and also had the always delicious scallops(3) with it and baked potato. My husband had the bison short ribs on risotto and we both had salads. Everything was so delicious but my prime rib was not rare! The one small end was and rest was medium But it was getting busy by this time and decided to just eat the rare part and take rest home and make a sandwich next day with rest. I was disappointed with that but figured it wasn't going to waste! We really like this place for nice dinners but think I will hesitate before get prime rib again ! Great neighborhood place, quite busy. We arrived sans reservations and were seated in less than 10 minutes. They didn't seem to have tables spaced out but there were barriers between booths. We were seated in the front of the restaurant. . We started with fried calamari. It was great. Had a sprinkling of parm on it and came with cocktail sauce. Only comment is the cocktail sauce could have used more horseradish. While crab legs are only listed on the menu as a side, my daughter and I were able to get one pound of king crab legs as a dinner. These came close to the best I've had up in Seattle. Sweet, succulent, steamed without overcooking. Suggestion on the crab: the legs are not precut like they do at some restaurants. Be prepared to battle the crab. Well worth the effort. The meal came with a hot loaf of bread, soup of salad (hint - the Champaign vinaigrette dressing was yummy; second hint- the house salad has feta cheese on it. It doesn't mention this in the Menu), vegetable and potatoes or rice pilaf. My brother in law got prime rib with a side of shrimp, fries,and salad. It was a generous 8 ounce cut (looked to be well over!). He said it was very good. Service was terrific. Several waitstaff stopped to ask if they could get us anything periodically throughout the meal. I honestly don't understand any of the reviews complaining about cold bread, bad service and so on. We would make Murphy's a regular place for us if we lived in the Prescott area. It was that good. read more

I'm sad to say we were disappointed with our dinner. The server didn't get our order right. They ended up giving us prime rib when we ordered a top sirloin. Not a big deal but when we told the waitress, she asked if we would like to change it. When we said no it's alright, she ended up charging us for the prime rib which was 15$ more that what we ordered. We told her that wasn't right she said if we had her take it back instead of accepting the mistake it would be the price of the steak instead. Bottom line management adjusted the bill. After disappointing experiences at two local mid-priced restaurants, we made reservations at Murphy's. Bottom line: Everything was outstanding. We loved the building which dates from about 1890. The decor and furnishings are fitting for such a glorious building. My wife's Tenderloin Filet and Fried Shrimp were top-notch. The steak was cooked to perfection and the shrimp were HUGE. I had the scallops with cauliflower and carrot puree and bacon bourbon jam. It was probably the best-tasting scallop preparation I have eaten. We went out earlier this month to celebrate our anniversary at Murphy's restaurant in Prescott. The food was absolutely incredible. We started with fresh hot bread & herb butter, then an appetizer of Stella Artois beer sauteed shrimp in a Cajun seasoning with crusty cheese bread. Then had 2 different kinds of salad, followed by sharing pan-seared scallops on pureed cauliflower & carrots with bacon-bourbon jam! Then we tasted a few bites of our Duroc dry-aged pork chop with roasted corn & onion risotto with black pepper bourbon gray! Took home most of that so we would have room for dessert. Got an anniversary dessert for free! Ate the velvety smooth creme brulee there & took home this huge piece of devil's food cake with chocolate mousse frosting to enjoy later! read more
