I contacted Murakami to obtain a quote. Great customer service, they came out right away and within days I was emailed a quote. This was in March. I was trying to get a few quotes before I decide on my roofer. Since Murakami I contacted 3 more roofing companies they all came out to inspect my roof. However, they have not sent me any kind of quote. 2nd roofing company - 3/4 inspection, 3rd roofer - 3/23 inspection and last roofer - 4/1 inspection. ALL 3 no quotes. Oh and I contact another roofing company on-line twice in April with no response. They all came out fairly quickly to inspect, however, no quotes. Needed help replacing a 46" x 46" skylight. This was a simply lift and replace effort bc the manufacturer had provided the replacement window. I needed someone with tools and manpower as could not do this in my own. A rep from Murakami Roofing called in advance to get a better understanding of the potential job. He then made an appointment to come out and view the roof line in person. After reviewing the roof line, he committed to providing a quote the next day. We did not hear back for two days, so on the third day I called the main office. The receptionist said the rep was in the office and she could connect me to him. Upon answering my call, and learning who I was, he interrupted to advise the job was not something his company would be interested in doing. Why could he not have let me know this when I described the job to him over the phone or after visiting the house? Why would he waste his time and the company's money to pay him to visit our house if he had no intention of taking the job anyway? All great questions. Proceed with great caution. read more

Clinton may appear skilled in his craft, but looks can be deceiving. While working with his roofing company, I saw firsthand how several customers called back after their projects were supposedly completed--still dealing with the same unresolved issues. What's worse is how he treats his own workers. He refused to pay my final salary and declined my laptop repair reimbursement twice, even after he had initially approved it. That $400 was something I had planned to use for my pregnant wife's medical needs. If this is how he treats the people who contributed to growing his business, I wouldn't trust him to honor commitments to his customers either. So our skylight starting a slow drip that no one would've noticed if I had not been sitting almost directly underneath it. It was about 1-2 hours after all that heavy rain we had so totally unexpected - a slow but steady drip drip drip. Murakami Roofing had done an excellent job many years ago but we took a chance and called. The office lady was so kind and helpful, explaining that the warranty was long expired. We hadn't even thought about a warranty so weren't disappointed and still asked if they could come. Sure thing and an appointment was made for the Friday. On Thursday someone calls and says they're in Aiea and could swing by. I'm delighted! Guess what happened? They fixed it!!!!! I don't know what superlative to use but consider them all used right here right now! This has to be the most disorganized and unprofessional roofer with whom i have ever worked. I've own three homes and never ad an issue with a roofing company like this one. The roofers work hard but the management is terrible - didn't bring the correct supplies, ordered the wrong paint, the foreman on the job sounds like he's struggling and the people at the shop are unfriendly. I had an excellent experience with Murakami Roofing. I found Mr. Murakami to be very honest when inspecting my roof and coming up with a quote. Our solar salesman said it only needed a coating but the roofer found otherwise saving us a lot of future headaches from a solar system on a bad roof. Despite having lots of rain delays, their workers quickly came on the clear days to tear the old roof apart. They also took care of the rotted boards and fixed everything quickly and neatly. They also cleaned up well after each day of work. The workers were really good about letting us know what was going on throughout the job. I haven't had issues with the work that was done but beware that warranties on their work is not transferable if the home is sold. Just food for thought if you are considering using this company and planning on selling the property that work is being done on. August of 2014 Murakami's Roofing LLC sent their employee Keoki (I think) who fixed 2 vent fans (1 to the living area and 1 to the attic) and tuned up several problems with the laps on the roofing material. They also did applied led flashing to various roof top areas such as plumbing vents. In my opinion their pricing is just a little high. After all 1 guy on my roof for 6 - 7 hours was around $1000 for labor. Seems like quite a bit. HOWEVER, they were very professional and their work is insurred. In fact when hurricane Ana brushed by us I developed a new leak in my son's room. Monday morning I called their office at 8:50 am and by 9:30 I had a call back with an apology and assurance they would cover any damages. Keoki (very nice guy) was there by 1:30 pm fixing that and even double checking other areas to be extra sure. Too bad this particular issue wasn't properly noticed / addressed by the original supervisor or Keoki but were all human. I believe that they made best efforts all along and no hassles getting this problem addressed. Despite my concern that their may be cheaper I WILL use this company and WILL highly recommend them to others. Good service in Hawaii can be difficult to find and the service Murakami provides is top notch. read more

AWESOME ROOFERS! I really am not sure why they have 2 bad reviews because my experience was flawless. They got to my house early however waited until the correct time to engage with us since it was the morning. After explaining thoroughly what they were doing, they got started on our 4bd house roof. We live in mililani and our house is fairly big, but they got everything done in 1 day! It seems these other reviewers had issues with contacting the company. I myself had absolutely no problem getting into contact with them and got a price quote the same day and they were at my house the next week to do the job. After they finished the job, they even asked me if I was satisfied and wanted my input on how the experience was for me. Which pretty much was the icing on the cake. Well the best part was that I got a fair price. I had gotten quotes from 5 other companies and some charged way above fair market price, and others way below. Unsure where a leak was coming from I phoned Murakami Roofing who did the original job to investigate. They sent someone right away as a crew was working in the same neighborhood and I was advised it was coming from a loft window. Employee "J" surprised me when he advised he would return the next day and fix it at no charge as I was still under warranty (barely). He did a great job. As I was going through MR website I found that they now install hurricane clips. Asked for an estimate which was reasonable and within a week had that completed as well (they had finished earlier on another job). My single wall 1970's home with open beams used to creak in high winds but it is solid now - not a sound. Great 3 person crew and wonderful office employee "R" who arranged everything . read more

Needed some bids on my house I was renovating, and I called Murakami's and 5 other companies. Murakami's bid was in the middle, but what sold me was their free onsite estimate. The estimator came early and was more thorough than any other company was, and gave me hard numbers on the job. After that, I had to chance it with these guys because it felt the most pono. So I gave them the bid, and after we signed the contract, they came and did the work. After they finished the roof, they were very polite in letting me know what to do and what not to do, and how to take care of my roof so it will last for a long time. I see some other reviews here on yelp are not favorable for Murakami's but I think it's good to note every company has mad customers. I'm not one of them and would recommend Murakami's Roofing for their affordability and quality of work. It was grade A and didn't need to be redone. read more

Told the estimator I wanted the 1x3 board ( some termite damage) under the drip edge replaced which was specifically written in the estimate. Should've watched the demo work. Next day went to check and roof was down but 1x3 board not replaced. I was reimbursed some money for that work not done. Also, formed a 2" lead flashing around a 1 1/2" vent pipe. Poor workmanship. I'm not sure what's going on with this business. They had a decent reputation but all I can tell you is my personal experience. I left two emails and two phone messages with no reply over the course of a month. I must say when I called a third time and someone answered I was surprised. The women made an appointment for an estimate and about a week later a young man came over to give an estimate. He was very well informed about roofing and went up on the roof and took some measurements and then spoke with us about what our options are. After 8 weeks and no communication I called and emailed the office I got a reply saying "sorry we are really busy and have to decline this estimate." When I emailed back the reply said they were very busy and didn't want to keep me waiting. I told her they weren't too busy to send out an estimater. She was either lying or oblivious to the fact they did keep me waiting for two months for a simple estimate. I would have been fine if she had told me that up front but to send out an estimater and then not get back to a customer is unacceptable. If they really are that busy this or any other poor reviews wont' hurt them. But it's a small island and you are only as good as your reputation. If you are looking for timely response and customer service look elsewhere. If you can wait until they decide they might want to do your roof this is the roofing service for you. Before I went with another company (Tory's), which proved to be a big disappointment, I had Murakami's come to do an estimate. Their ads impressed me. The guy measured and said he would be get back to us in a few days. Weeks went by, so I called his cell phone. He was a bit taken aback and then said he was actually on vacation in Las Vegas, so I would have to wait until he got back, but he would get back to us promptly upon his return. He never did follow up. Weeks went by, so miffed, we went with Tory's, so I can't speak for their roofing work, just their service--unreliable. Update: Regarding the suggestion that this was possibly a mistaken-identity issue, I stand by my claim. (At the time, I was attracted by its ad featuring a free solar roof fan with a roofing job.) I have used Murakami Roofing for two residential jobs in the past three years. They are very professional and do really nice work. I was most impressed by the fact that they do not fool around. They arrive at the appointed time with a full crew and a yard full of equipment. They work fast and clean and they pay attention to detail. Price wise they were a tad lower than the second bid I got and they included a couple of little extras I asked for. The only negative is they are really busy. One word....Terrific! From getting an honest estimate to completion of the job, Murakami Roofing is definitely top notch. Clinton came out and inspected areas that were leaking and giving us problems. He looked over our whole roof and told us he wouldn't change the whole roof because it still is in good shape. He looked at our troubled areas and gave us an an honest and fair estimate within a couple of days. After agreeing to the contract, he and his crew came the very next day to work on our roof. As they worked, his crew was polite, efficient, and professional. I had a small leak in our master bedroom roof that 3 different roofers could not find. Clinton climbed into our hot attic (how he does that after 30 years of roofing is beyond me) and tried his best to pinpoint where the water was coming in from. As with 3 other roofers, he couldn't see any leak from inside the attic. However, instead of just leaving it at that, he was determined to try and find out where the leak was and went back up to the roof to see. Lo & behold, he found it! Other people told me they couldn't see anything so it's probably nothing (even if there had to be some kind of leak because there were stains and cracks on the ceiling). You gotta love someone who really treats his customer's roof as if it were his own roof. They had to replace wood rot beams, fix a few leaks that were causing other damage, re roll the flat roof on my outdoor & indoor patio, and few other things. It's pretty amazing that from our agreement on the contract to the job being complete took less than 4 days. Also gotta love the fact that they stand behind their product with reassurances that they'd come back if I found any problems with their work (which I highly doubt I will). Price was actually cheaper than a competitor and they (Murakami Roofing) did a lot more work. Professional, efficient, and the best customer service. If you need roofing services here on Oahu, you'd be crazy not to use Murakami Roofing. Choosing them will be the best decision you'll ever make when it comes to roofing. read more

Well, what can I say. I just got off the phone with the "office" girl and tried to schedule a day that fits into my schedule. She didn't give me any leeway, take it or leave it! About three years ago, paid over $2000 to replace second floor roof flashing and other items. Less than a year later, small leaks were noticed in the same work area when it rained. Called to inspect but no follow-up calls or repairs were done. Since then, repeated leaks in same work area have been observed when it rains. Recent job from another roofing company indicated that roof repair job done was incomplete and didn't do what they were supposed to do. read more

Murakami Roofing did a very nice job on our roof. The estimator did a good job inspecting and giving me an assessment of our roofing needs, and answered my questions well. They stripped-down all the layers of shingles, some pitch and gravel, and our carport corrugated roofing. I really appreciated their repairs of areas of wood damage before they placed the new roofing. They also placed a solar vent fan, which has been helping to keep the house a little cooler on hot days. I also had a referral for this company and call for an estimate the woman was polite and took my number. Serveral day later a guy came to check the roof and measured the area. After that no one called or wrote any estimate or proposal. So after 3 to 4 weeks I called again to ask the woman apologied and said someone wiill get back to me. It been over 1 year. But I did find a very realiabe and prompt and very reasonable roofer. I would like to say West Oahu Roofing is very realiabe and with in 2 weeks my roof was completed. First of all, should have read the reviews left by others before contracting the company. I have never had to complain about any service that I received, but the lack of respect shown by this company has compelled me to share with others before "investing" your hard earned dollars on this company. At first contact, estimate and timing of doing the job seemed ideal. So after considering other bids, we decided to go with Murakami Roofing. They arrived for the job and then I receive a call that a worker, "has fallen through our roof!" We got the story of "your previous contractor didn't do this" "employee's first day on the job." Okay, that's all fine, but now what? We have a hole in our roof! That day they repaired the hole and said that someone would come back to repair the ceiling in our living room. After waiting almost a week they sent someone to finish the ceiling. When calling about timing they said that he would be here at 8am Thursday. After waiting for hours, called the office with a "Hang up!" (Caller ID?) Called right back "Voicemail" (hmmmmm). Worker "Chris" arrived at noon. Did some work.., but had to have things dry, so would come back tomorrow. Next day arrived late again, " busy with other jobs." Oh my....when the family arrived home. The ceiling job was not done, and plaster splatter was all over our living room carpet, furniture and window blinds. We were totally SHOCKED! Why wasn't a tarp placed on our carpet and furniture to protect it. This was not something that was simply vacuumed up. Our carpets and furniture are stained! When calling to complain, just got an answering service. When "Chris" called back we demanded the manager or owner call us back, because his explanation was "the nozzle was crooked." As of this posting, we are still waiting for a call back. Yes, this company does a great job with roofing, but BEWARE when their employees fall through your roof.
