I called West Oahu Roofing after the storm that hit Oahu on Thursday, January 30, 2025 because I discovered a small leak in my living room. Bernard, the owner & President came out Saturday following the storm and found the leak right away. Despite being a small job, he promptly submitted a proposal. After other companies came out, I hired West Oahu Roofing. Bernard also sent his carpenter to look at a corner of my home subject to rot due to rain/moisture. Service Requested-- Mr. Balaise stayed late and waited for me on a Saturday afternoon to let me look at his roof tiles that was needed for my repair. He then came out to do an estimate. He is customer service oriented, very knowledgeable, and made good recommendations. 2. Quality - I'm very happy with the quality of the work his team provided. They replaced cracked tiles and miss-matched colored tiles, and re-grouted the ridge cap. 3. Value - Mr. Balaise and his team provide great value for the work they performed. I can't ask for more. Re-roof with solar/water panel remove and reinstall in April 2023, Mililani Mauka, couple mis-hap. Water heater panel was dispose by miscommunication (mix up with another customer living in the same area)but was retrieve the same day, no damage. Initial reinstall of the solar panel, no power output, they have to reconnect the wiring to get it to work (corrosion on connector, that's what they claiming). Different color on some of the ridge cap, the one that's visible on ground level is the same color, but some in the middle of the roof is different color(about 100 ridge-cap), but if you know what you are looking for, you still can see it on ground level, I point it out to the roofing company owner Bernard, (was told color will get darker overtime and will blend in), no big deal since you cannot really see it unless you are looking for flaw. After the job is complete, approximately 80 nails/staple/screw are pick up on the lawn with my magnet, I guess you cannot really avoid debris falling/launching from the second story roof during removal, but they should do a better job cleaning up, nobody want to step on nail screw staple on their yard The company was refer from my co worker, I believe they are one of the cheapest roofing company around, the owner Bernard was very responsive to call and text, address issue right-a-way, not bad for the price I paid, possible use them again in the future, but they have a lot of room for improvement! One last recommendation, when the job is done and time to pay, they will give you the roofing warranty and a stack of paper work to sign, I highly recommend do not sign anything, just give them the payment and take the warranty. ( you don't want to waive any of your right) Also don't be lazy, go up on the roof and check, check the solar panel output, water panel is making hot water and no leak! read more

If I could give zero stars that would be my rating. West Oahu was contracted to re-roof my garage and to replace a couple of fascia boards and a section of plywood that was rotted out. I had to remove my PV panels and asked Bernard if I needed to remove the hanger bolts. He said no that they'll work around it. When the job was done one of the workers asked me if I wanted to inspect the job. Luckily I did because I found they removed five bolts. When I asked the worker about the bolts he said he didn't know anything. I asked him who would put it back and he told me my solar guy would. I told him I'm the solar guy and why wasn't the roof marked where the bolts came from. I called Bernard and told him of the problem. He said he would send someone to reinsert the boats. When it was time for me to reinstall my PV panels, I discovered two of the bolts placed in the wrong area. The plywood that was supposed to have been removed and replaced was replaced with some new and some used plywood. When Bernard was asked about it he said that it was new plywood. I told him I had never seen new plywood that was painted and had scuff marks and mud marks over it. Other instances of bad workmanship include many splintered rafters when the nails and bolts clipped the rafters. Bernard attributed these to mistakes. I told him I couldn't see a licensed company making that many mistakes. Bernard came with his painter to caulk over the mistakes. He couldn't even do a good job there. The fascia board that was replaced should have been one board 14 ft in length. Instead they used two pieces, one 4 ft and one 10 ft in length. Both boards were not centered on the rafters when nailed in . Bernard said this was acceptable work. I asked Bernard to redo the work that was unacceptable. He felt it was acceptable and offered me $600 and he would call Poncho's solar service to redo the two errant hanger bolts. This was all he would offer as he said all of the work that was done was "acceptable". I wanted to take him to small claims court but during this pandemic, the courts were closed. I thought my next best step would be to accept his $600 and make a complaint with the state RICO office hoping they would find that this was unacceptable and shoddy work and deem the repairs would cost more than the $600 then Bernard would just give me the difference. But lo and behold, the state Rico office says that since I accepted money from Bernard and Poncho's was paid by Bernard, they deemed my complaint as resolved therefore they would not investigate. I told them they could disregard the money and investigate the shoddy work. No deal. Had I known this, I would not have accepted anything. We can't even get justice from our Consumer Protection office. Through all of this I have three pieces of advice. One, is to use any other roofing company, two, is not to accept any offer of replacement or repair if you are going to file a complaint with the state RICO office, and three, licenses don't mean a thing! Since this episode, everytime I see West Oahu's ad about "workmanship you can trust", I think about false advertising. read more

Estimation was quickly done by Mr. Blackwood around 9am and I got an email with his proposal around 430pm that day. The product I picked was a Certainteed Lankmark Pro. I will not discuss details about pricing, but compare to two other companies that are rated top on Yelp, there was a big gap difference from all 3 companies (let's just say there is a $3,000- $5,000 difference.) The product Certainteed has a great warranty policy and these roofing companies must abide with the installation Certainteed require. That being said these 3 companies have practically the same standard craftsmanship. I picked West Oahu Roofing because Mr. Blackwood was down to earth, answered all my questions via in person and phone and the company's quote was fair. A week later from the date I signed my proposal there was a snag with scheduling, but it was quickly resolved by the company's owner, Mr. Balais and Mr. Blackwood. For the inconvenience, they upgraded my shingles to a better more durable shingle than the one I ordered. And they were able to squeeze me in into their busy schedule. Roofing commenced at 830am and they were done by 3pm. If anyone was is wondering how big my roof is, I live in a single house with attached garage in Ewa Beach. So I guess my roof is average size. They were really really quick. The workers were polite. They cleaned up after themselves; no rubbish on site. I am a very happy and satisfied customer. I will be posting my new roof soon. If anyone was wondering why I didn't give less stars because of the inconvenience, I am very meticulous (Type A kind of person) about everything and they were quick to resolve it. So they got my full 5 stars. I will update more once my warranty paperwork are done processing. read more

Easiest 5 star review I have ever written. From proposal to follow up to the finished product Craig, Bernard and the entire team did an amazing job and were extremely professional. We had a rather large roofing project and needed new gutters. I received 6 proposals from various roofing companies. West Oahu was the only one that received strong recommendations from Yelp, distributors and roofing manufacturers. Pricing was in line with other roofing companies, but when you consider they did not want to take short cuts (other companies did) they were actually priced below the competition. Craig led us through every step of the process and never rushed us (we took a lot of time to make our decision). He answered every question and visited the jobsite everyday. The crew was amazing. Friendly, focused, clean and respectful. Every single neighbor in our cul de sac told us how happy they were with the crew at west oahu roofing. 5 people told us that they were the quietest and friendliest construction crew they have ever encountered. One neighbor who works for a major solar company said he had never seen a roofing crew clean up so well each day. West Oahu brings there own portapotty to the jobsite. I never saw a single member of the team not working. No one was talking story. They had a job to do and knew how to do it. The craftsmanship was second to none. The job was completed on time (3 weeks faster than some competitors claimed) and the warranty is second to none. If you need a new roof. I highly recommend contacting Craig at West Oahu. Bernard gave us a good price to redo the roof on our Mililani home. His crew was on-time and ready to go at 8 am. They even brought their own port-a-toilet. They dropped heavy plastic drop cloths around our perimeter to catch as much rubbish, nails, shingles, etc. that was flying off the roof. They hand-carried everything on the roof to the front of the garage to drop into the truck to haul away. Afterwards, they picked up whatever was visible on the ground, but I think it's reasonable they couldn't find 100% of the trash that fell to the ground. The job took a full day and the only break they took was their well-earned 1-hour lunch break. They left our yard as clean as when they got there. A few years ago we called West Oahu Roofing to reroof a section of our roof where the new solar water system was being installed. A couple of years after that we called them to reroof our garage before we installed our new photovoltaic system. These sections did not need to be redone when we did the rest of the house. On Monday, Bernard, owner of West Oahu Roofing, and a crew of about nine including a safety officer, was on site to tear off our almost 70 year old multi-layer asphalt roofing.  In three (3) days we had a beautiful new Silver Birch color CertainTeed Landmark Pro roof, 2 solar attic fans, along with the CertainTeed 5-Star Warranty. The quality of the workmanship and speed can only came from experience. This roof may last another 70 years!!  Orlino the foreman is incredibly skilled and knowledgeable, with decades of woodworking experience. "Lino" explained various options, and we made our choice before he proceeded. They replaced multiple areas of shiplap and rafters, changed the 1x4 fascia to 1x6, and leveled several sagging eaves including a corner with a 4x4 support post. The transition to the flat roof was a bry torch down. They cleaned up daily before they left. Bernard would come by several times a day to check on the job. At the end of the day, he would review the progress with us, including materials and techniques, pointing out the important things to know. He even brought us pink dragon fruit from his yard on the last day. He gave & installed bird-hole covers he bought from Re-Store, and I found out that he annually volunteers complete roof jobs to Habitat for Humanity. All of the workers are hard-working, friendly and courteous. I see it comes from the top. We highly recommend West Oahu Roofing. read more

I needed my cracked roof tiles replaced before installing PV. My roof tiles are hard to find...not many suppliers carry them in stock...and they are a special order item. I was able to find whatever remained at RSI through a friend. I called two other roofing companies (Rainbow Roofing and David's Custom Roofing) requesting for an estimate...they came out to my house a week after I initally called...both did not get on the my roof...4 days later and counting, and as of this review, I have not received a quote or call back from these two roofing companies. On the other hand, Bernard (owner of West Oahu Roofing) was very responsive. I called him on Monday, and found out he carried a pallet of my tiles at his yard. Wow, what forward thinking!! Two days later on Wednesday, his crew was at my house looking at my roof. That same night, Bernard gave me a quote. His crew had a 1/2 day job the next morning (Thursday), and Bernard told me that they would be there Thursday afternoon. The West Oahu Roofing crew showed up as scheduled....they were excellent!! They were courteous and generally nice people. They replaced 60 tiles in less than 4 hours. It was hard work...and a hot day, so props to them. I'm a happy customer....and will definitely recommend Bernard and West Oahu Roofing to my Homeowners Assocation and neighbors (who has the same roof tiles). On a side note, the West Oahu Roofing guys was nice enough to come out today (Friday) to help my PV installers secure a tie-off point on the ridge cap. I'm late with this review, but here goes. One day last year, a stranger driving around on my street handed me a business card for a roofing company I'd never heard of before. A few weeks later we had really strong gusts, and I was missing a few tiles as a result. I called a few places and never heard back from any of them. So I decided to call the number on the card, explained that I only had a few missing tiles. A few days later I get a call saying that his crew would be in the area and could come to do my repair in the morning. (W.........T.........H.........?!?!) I said you never even saw it and you never even gave me a written estimate. He said "I think it would be about $600." (W........T.......H.....?!?!) I told him no way and was now wary of everybody, but I needed to get this done. I decided to call a company with an ad, which was WEST OAHU ROOFING (OK, so I liked the name) anyway, Bernard came out, gave me a good (and WRITTEN!) estimate (a couple hundred less than the street solicitor's imaginary estimate.) WEST OAHU ROOFING's crew did a great job, and even went above and beyond what the estimate listed (there were some smashed tiles over the edge of the garage and they replaced them.) Bernard provided us with detail information on the work to reroof our house. The workers were very professional and got the job done even with weather problems. We did have to call them back because we still had a problem around our chimney. They had to redo that section, but the problem was fixed with no additional charges. We are so fortunate to have chosen West Oahu Roofing to do our roof. They did a neighbor's roof and you could tell they were fast, efficient, and professional. And that is exactly what we experienced! We have a 1938 plantation cottage with the original wood shingles and a bunch of layers of shingles. I knew there would be a lot of repairs, so it was imperative to find a team who could do everything: rip off, conduct repairs and paint, and put down all new plywood, underlayment, and shingle. The foreman/carpenter, Orleano, was very professional and skilled with the repairs and managing his well-oiled team. Bernard, the owner, even came to the job site to ensure all was running smoothly. He has put together a great team, that I enjoyed working with! He also has a nice safety officer who watches over the workers and job site. Another post noted a lot of roof debris leftover. There was some here too, but it was in the heavily planted areas that would be difficult to pick debris from. It's a small price to pay for such a great job! I've been recommending them to everyone! November 2012 Our home was long due for a new roof and we hired West Oahu Roofing to do the job. Since re-roofing is a big ticket investment, we wanted to be sure to go with a reputable company. A quick search on Yelp didn't provide too many results. A company we used a few years previous to redo our garage roof was good, but on the expensive side. So, we decided to get estimates from West Oahu and the company with the commercials on TV. West Oahu: call went through to a voice mail for a different phone number, so I left a message and Randall gave me a call back that day. We set up a date/time and Randall showed up promptly. He took measurements, explained the options we had, then said he would email us the proposals within a day (with two options). As promised, we received the email with the two options and after looking over the proposal decided to hire West Oahu. Company with commercials: the person who took call for estimate was great - I explained that I needed to set the appointment up for a specific week (off from work) and I was told I would receive a call from their estimator within a day to set it up... the estimator called back a WEEK later, after the time-frame I said the estimate needed to be done. A few days before the job was scheduled, Randall called to confirm the job start. The day before, he came out with the Solar guys to remove the solar panels from the roof. The job took about a day and a half and Randall was there the entire time to ensure everything went smoothly. I don't like to give people bad reviews but I think everyone needs to know what happen to us and hopefully it hasn't happen to others customers. Our landlord hired this company to fix our roof. On Sept 5th one of there workers tried to STEAL MY NEPHEWS BIKE. Good thing we came home on time. When we pulled into our driveway we saw one of their trucks leaving with my nephews bike in the back of their truck. We told their foreman they need to bring the bike back cause we called the cops. So they brought it back and of course everyone played dumb saying they don't know who took it. So we said when the cops come they can explain to them. Then they decided to leave before the cops came. Even our neighbor told us they was asking who owns the bike. Like seriously u seen it our yard when u first came and their the ones who moved it on the side by our plants. They knew it was ours. I guess they thought since they were done with our roof they would take it before we get home and wouldn't see them again. I called our landlord to let him know what had happened. I also spoke with the owner of the company and he said he was going to fire whoever took the bike but I doubt it cause they didn't even want to fess up to it when we asked them. Unfortunately the police said it would be hard to make a case against them or press charges cause we didn't have cameras and they did return the bike. What makes more mad is how are u going to steal something from a child. And what they don't realize is that it's a small island everyone knows each other and there's social media. You just put your company in jeopardy and giving them a bad reputation. Be careful who you hire cause they can have good reviews and do excellent work but are there workers trust worthy. I really didn't want to give them any stars but had to click on one to post this review so it's actual 0 stars. read more
