Koolau Roof Tech, to me, has been the best kept secret that needs to be shared with every homeowner in Hawaii. Knowing I need to replace my roof soon, obviously I'm not looking forward to the cost of doing so as I have 49 solar panels that will need to come down and put back up which will be a huge added cost when I do replace my roof. Luckily, I found Koolau Roof Tech and with this new advanced technology, I can now take a breather for at least 3-5 years while preparing for the inevitable roof replacement. Long story short, my shingles have been rejuvenated, they are no longer brittle but flexible and the granules will adhere to the shingles better, the algae and moss on my shingles are gone and the areas were water can leak into my house has been fixed. Prior to hiring Kirt, he drove over to look at my roof so he can 1) determine if my roof would benefit from his product or not, i.e., meaning it's time for me to replace it, and 2) get the required information so he can prepare an estimate if my roof passes his test. During this estimate phase, Kirt explained he can do my roof just one time and that I would have to replace it in about 5 years. He also explained all the things he saw on my roof that were susceptible to leaks which he would fix and what I needed to do before he came back which was basically for me to cut back the palm trees and the palm branches that were touching my roof or hanging over my roof. Later that afternoon, he sent me a detailed report going over what we discussed that included the estimate and pictures of everything he saw on my roof that he would fix prior to him spraying. He also had pictures of the palms I needed to cut down. My first impression of Kirt is that he's very friendly, on time, professional and honest. When I decided to hire him, he showed up with his dad who basically was there for Kirt's safety as it's a dangerous job being on a roof. As I talked to both Kirt and his dad, it basically sealed the deal for me in that I thoroughly trust them...they're Good People and they just want to do an excellent job...which they did!!! Briefly, some of the areas he fixed on the roof prior to spraying were: sealing exposed nails and torn shingle caps with a clear trypolymer sealant, tacked down floating flashing, used the clear trypolymer sealant to cover the solar hot water supply line and replaced a few rain collars as they appeared to have been gnawed on by rats which created a space they could squeeze into while also allowing rain water to leak in. I attached a few pictures of these. When spraying, he was very conscientious of our neighbors so he first treated the edges of our roof with his backpack sprayer to minimize overspray. In closing I highly recommend Koolau Roof Tech, not only because I believe in their product, but because of the outstanding customer service from Kirt. Koolau Roof Tech is an excellent roofing company. Since we are in the process of installing solar panels & our asphalt shingle roof is 17 years old, but not quite ready to be replaced. Exceptional Service! Kirt and his son was very meticulous in covering balcony railings and patio furniture before spraying. Upon completion, they hosed down areas that had some overspray. As an extra service(complimentary), Kirt repaired exposed areas of the roof where my solar panel anchors was not sealed when it was installed and sealed exposed roofing nails. I was able to Communicate with Kirt through emails and texts as I travel a lot. He rejuvenated 3 of my neighbors homes roofs and results were great. Kirt did my home a couple days ago after giving a free estimate with photos and suggestions, suck as sealing my air vents from Birds. I was getting granules of shingle material coming out of my rain gutter downspouts after heavy rains, and my roof shingles were getting dark with algae. It bothered me because my 10-year-old roof has a 30-year warranty. I thought the roof was supposed to last longer before breaking down, but it was showing signs of wear and tear under Hawaii's sun. I saw the commercial for Koolau Roof Tech and decided to call for an estimate. Kirt was quick to reply via text, email, and phone. He came to my home, on time, and completed his estimate that included a detailed report of my roof (with pictures of damaged areas.) The estimate includes a roof tune -up to repair the items noted in his report. This was really convenient since I did not have to look for another contractor, get estimates and schedule the repair work. I hired Koolau Roof Tech for the treatment and roof tune up work. Roof repairs were done, the treatment was completed, and pictures were taken for me to reference. Kirt and his crew left my house cleaner than when they started since they had to wash down my sidewalks to wash off the treatment over spray from the roof. I saw the article in the Sunday's Renovation section and thought it might be the right time in a rejuvenation of my shingles. Kirt did a thorough on-site evaluation on the condition of my roof which also had photovoltaic panels. After the heavy rains that hit Oahu last week I was in for a rude awakening. The roof area over my laundry room had a small leak. There was a "drip drip drip" sound coming from the water from my roof hitting my dryer. Looking for a roofing expert, Yelp allows you to request a quote and it's sent out to several companies open to quotes in the category. Kirt from Kokua Roof Tech wasn't the first to message me back on Yelp but he was literally the first available to actually come down and check out my roof to provide me an estimate, which was helpful since we had hit a dry spot in the heavy rains that were upon us in the next week. He came by and took and look and gave me an honest assessment and overview. My leak wasn't major so he actually repaired it for me for free but he did give me a heads up that we would eventually need to re-tar my roof soon as it was wearing down -- the UV granules were missing and washed out (this prevents the asphalt from cracking due to the sun exposure), there was "pooling" of water happening on the roof, which could affect more erosion of the asphalt on the roof. You may say to yourself that Kirt was only telling me this so that I would eventually redo my entire roof with him. To be clear, Koolau Roof Tech aids in roof maintenance and extending the life of your roof, but not in the business to redo and re-tar the entire roof so there was really no benefit of him telling me this information other than to be helpful and give me a heads up to prevent further damage. I'd give 10 stars if I could. Hands down awesome experience with Kirt and team Dad+son. I requested a schedule for estimate on a Sunday and Kirt responded within 30 minutes having reviewed my roof top on line. Wow. THEN he came to our home and walked us through the process, what to expect, WHY rejuvenation was beneficial, and gave an honest appraisal of our roof's condition. He didn't hard sell us, he even told us we could put off his service for 12-18 months due to the condition of our roof. Seriously. I mean - who does THAT anymore?!!?? We'd noticed roofing granules coming out of our rain gutters for a little over a year and wondered if the roof needed to be replaced but were concerned we may not get an honest evaluation from a roofing company. We saw Ko'olau Roof Tech's ad in Midweek and finally made an appointment for an inspection. At our first appointment, Kirt showed up with a handful of twisted metal shards that he'd collected from our driveway on the way to our door. These had been dropped by the neighbors' construction crew earlier that morning and while the workers usually came and picked up debris every few hours, we could have easily driven over it before they did.
