We went here last minute as we were looking for a sit-down restaurant to eat at in Avila when we realized another popular spot no longer offered sit-down breakfast service. To our dismay, this place also doesn't offer sit-down service. But we ordered anyway. The food was good, french toast, breakfast sandwich, and breakfast burrito were ordered in addition to a bloody mary. All were tasty! But the limits of counter order service earned it four stars instead of five. read more

We came here after a great morning at Avila beach. The ambiance is great! Lots of room, dog friendly, and even some games to entertain. The service was good, even with a little mixup, but very apologetic and accommodating. The food was good to. Some traditional bites, and even some obscure. Hate to give this a high rating for fear of crowds, rather keep it a secret little gem. We love to come sit here under the shade of the sails in the Adirondack chairs with fire pits for the cool days and cool grass under our feet for the warm ones. Happy hour, music, and an ocean view. Great place to relax with friends or enjoy solo time with a book. There are also lawn games to keep your kids, or the kid in you, happy. Very disappointed with this place.. Today we came in toward closing and ordered a couple cocktail for a friends birthday. We ordered a bloody and a blueberry cocktail. This place has made THE BEST bloody mary ive ever had. But tonight the server we had refused to put bitters, juice, or anything else other than spirit and chaser. We paid full and tipped well for the inconvenience of coming in later. Was a waste of money coming in for undrinkable drinks we had to throw away. We heard it was good from some friends who live nearby. But here is the kicker, it's good, considering. It's really more of a golf course bar and grill than a restaurant. For golf course food, it's pretty good. The view is excellent as it overlooks the inlet from the ocean at Avila Beach and the golf course. The weather in Avila tends to be the best of any around the area with its own micro-climate. And the service and atmosphere are excellent. BUT, if you are looking for a really good restaurant; this ain't gonna get it for you. I have heard they do some really good catered events here, but this isn't from the same menu. Attended a wonderful workshop at the Avila Bay Golf Resort on QiGong Called 'Super Qi'. The atmosphere for the workshop was wonderful and they had a restaurant nearby that made this very convenient. I would highly recommend checking out the resort for workshops and eat at Mulligans. read more

Nice spot to grab a decently priced meal and eat outside enjoying the ocean view. Food was good enough, not gourmet or anything. Staff is friendly and the outdoor space is unbeatable in this town. The Beet and Goat cheese salad was very good, the greens were fresh and the salad was sized appropriately for the price. The tri tip chili fries were also very good, a reasonable size portion of fries smothered in a medium spiced meaty chili. I would give the food 5 stars. Mulligan's is a golf course bar, there are a few spots to sit inside but it is located at the base of a valley where the creek runs into Avila Bay; nature has done the decorating so I can't imagine sitting inside unless it's raining. The ambience is take-out at a park, there are various table/ chair combinations under shade clothes scattered about over fairly level grass. There are also outdoor games like corn hole and plenty of space for kids to explore while parents relax. I docked a star because the utensils are cheap plastic and there is absolutely no service. I don't mind going in to order at the bar but it would have been nice to have tables wiped down, better quality utensils and have the food brought to us. Those things will not keep me from going back! The food is delicious. read more

This happened this past Sunday morning. The restaurant is on the Golf Course grounds so we checked in at the club house and then went into the restaurant to order some breakfast before our tee time. There was 1 gentlemen sitting at the bar who we found out had ordered before us. The bartender was not there, but came out after a few minutes. We ordered 4 breakfast burritos and 3 drinks. She made the drinks right away and then went in the back. To make a long story short she was the only one there and was the one making the burritos. It took more than 35 minutes for them to be ready, and no one else came in after we ordered. We almost gave up it was so frustrating but we waited it out and showed up late to tee off. When we go to the coast we expect things to be more laid back, but this was ridiculous. We even told her we were in a hurry and had a tee time so this was apparently her hurrying. Maybe it was her first time making a breakfast burrito, who knows. But if we ever go back, we won't be ordering any food. read more

We have been there twice. First time a few years ago the fish was horrible. Looked and tasted like Gordan's fish fillet. My partner's burger was good. Recently we each ordered a sandwich and both of them were bad and that includes my french fries and my partner's sweet potato fries. The times we were there it appeared to be a one woman show i.e., took the orders, cooked the food, prepared drinks, cleaned tables, etc. Too much for one person. read more

We think this place is great! We stopped in on a Thursday afternoon and the bartender was terrific -- friendly and made delicious drinks, everything from her spicy bloody mary to her drink special of the day, a cucumber jalapeño margarita! And served with a smile. My friend had the Mulligan burger with thick, crispy bacon and fries to die for! I had the teriyaki burger special of the day, which was unique and delicious! It came with grilled onions and pineapple which made it super good. The affable chef came out and asked how we liked our food! How often does that happen these days? And to top it off, the views were spectacular: to the west -- Avila beach and crashing waves, to the east is up the fairway, with large sycamores and oaks, rimmed by gorgeous hills. Just dropped into the 19th hole today (Mulligan's) after visiting Jay at the Pro Shop. Every person I met there today were really nice, warm and friendly. This was unlike other golf clubs I've been associated with and so it must be the overall positive vibe of San Luis Obispo in general that permeates the place. the views alone were a constant reminder of why I moved here and what makes SLO such a nice place in which to live. Back to Mulligan's. I asked the SUPER KNOWLEDGABLE and FRIENDLY SERVER - Amy Di Chiro about fresh juice and she said, "no" with such a sincerely apologetic tone, that I didn't even mind my pineapple juice coming from a can! I will be back on regular basis since it was such a nice place to hang-out - PLUS I found out that there are many events and concerts that are held right on the green outside the restaurant! read more

Staying at the Inn nearby and stopped in here. Glad we did. The bartender was a very personable lady who made amazing drinks for a super price. She made me a cherry lemonade with greygoose and it only cost $7! Also, it was delicious. They had a cute couple playing live music bc they have live music now on Friday's until 7pm. They both had great voices and played really well. We got the pesto chicken sandwich which was also amazing. She kindly split the plate for us as well without us asking. My husband was with a group of friends, and they stopped in to have a drink and some bites to eat after playing golf. The young female bartender/waitress was extremely rude. She snapped at them when they mentioned that she hadn't taken two of the guys drink orders. She said "YES, I DID!! (sic)" They weren't mad but simply mentioning that they did want drinks. They then went out on the patio to wait, and she snapped at them again. I don't know if she was having a bad day, but you should never jump at customers! Absolutely awful experience, the waitress Shannon was not pleasant, and was very hurried to get my order. When my food finally came 20 minutes later my sandwich was burned and the meat was slimey. So good! We had the chipotle chicken sandwich and the mulligan burger both with sweet potato fries. Amazing! And right on the beach without crowds. I am not sure if this is open to the public but we went right in and are having our wedding at the resort. Definitely recommend this place read more
