We grabbed a cocktail at the bar while we waited for our table and we both agreed the cocktails were yummy. I got their twist on a Paloma and she got their twist on a margarita. It wasn't long before we were guided to our table by the friendly hosts. Jason was our waiter and he was attentive, professional, and over all knowledgeable on the menu. He made a few suggestions on the food and wines and it wasn't long before we placed our order. They will bring you bread and butter, but beware the butter is sweetened. We ordered Rockefeller Oysters as an appetizer. We split the surf and turf special and OMG it was amazing. Splitting the meal was perfect because the steak is about 10-12 oz and the crab stuffed prawns are HUGE as well. It came with vegetables and purée radish. I'm extremely disappointed with the way my mom, my children, and I were treated at Marisol Restaurant at The Cliffs Hotel & Spa. We waited more than 30 minutes to be seated outside while watching other guests arrive after us and be seated before us. The wait itself was frustrating, but what made the experience much worse was the attitude and energy we received from the hostess. The way she looked at us and interacted with us made us feel extremely uncomfortable and unwelcome. After patiently waiting, I finally approached her and asked how much longer it would be. Suddenly, we were given a table and menus. Even after being seated, I continued noticing little things that made the difference in treatment stand out. My children received kids' menus but were not given crayons, and our table wasn't provided silverware while the guests around us appeared to be attended to and treated as a priority. It wasn't about crayons or silverware by themselves. It was the entire experience--waiting while people who arrived after us were seated, the way we were looked at and spoken to, and then watching the level of attention being given to the tables around us. When my brother found out about our experience, he was very upset and called Marisol to address it. What was especially disappointing was that the response he received was essentially that the hostess was "just a young girl." That response felt dismissive and minimized the discomfort my family experienced. Her age does not erase our experience. If a young employee handles guests poorly, the appropriate response should be to acknowledge the concern and provide additional training--not use her age to brush aside a customer's complaint. We were guests at The Cliffs Hotel & Spa and went to Marisol expecting to enjoy a nice experience together as a family. Instead, my mom, my children, and I walked away feeling like we were not given the same level of courtesy or attention as the people around us. I'm sharing our experience because hospitality is about making every guest feel welcome and respected. No family should leave a restaurant wondering why everyone around them seemed to receive better treatment. read more

We chose this place for brunch on a girl's trip for my birthday. Everyone's food was amazing, there's something for everyone. The atmosphere was relaxing, we chose outdoor seating that had a beautiful view of the ocean. The staff was attentive, and fun. The restaurant is very clean, the drinks were amazing as well. A MUST-STOP in Pismo Beach! We stopped by here for a late lunch on our way up north to Morro Bay, and it was the best decision ever! We originally planned to just order a few light things since we had dinner plans later, but oh my goodness... that small order turned into a feast! I honestly think we accidentally ordered the BEST OF THE BEST on their menu! Erik was also friendly and helpful with us trying to figure out what to order! Their Clam Chowder was absolutely AMAZING--so delicious that we ended up ordering two bowls of it! We also got two carnitas tacos, which were wonderfully delicious. Even the kids' mac n cheese with a side salad was yummy!!! They have a really great selection for the kids' menu! To top it all off, the drinks were strong but delicious--you just can't beat that! We frequent this place weekly, and it's our fave place, but I'm feeling ambivalent about the waiters needing to wear all black in the heat, and now having to wear their sleeves all the way down. I feel it's unclean if they brush against anything and can't wash their sleeves instead of washing their arms. I always felt that the waiters have shown extreme respect and it's one of the reasons we return besides the fantastic food and wine choices. One more note, and I'm truly usually not a complainer, the tap water that is served doesn't taste right. It has a "mildew" taste so not sure what's going on there. We ordered mimosas, cappuccino's, and I ordered the eggs Benedict with homestyle fries. The mimosa was beautiful not too much orange juice, perfect balance. The cappuccino was delicious. Could've been a little hotter obviously it probably sat just for a little bit. Deep rich flavors, nice hint of cocoa and that deep rich coffee taste. And my eggs Benedict were just awesome. Perfectly cooked, with the yolk still runny, but not too runny in the middle. The hollandaise sauce was beautiful perfect consistency. Great taste. The homestyle fries/potatoes were perfectly cooked. Our lunch experience at Marísol was fantastic. If you're unsure what to order, a phenomenal server like Andrew S is always valuable. I was very impressed with the Shell Beach Spritz cocktail that Andrew S recommended. It was not only beautiful to look at, but also delicious. We tried the Cliff's prime burger, the garden omelet, the lamb, the bagel & smoked salmon, and the French toast with three drinks. Each dish was wonderful. My husband and I particularly enjoyed the lamb lollipops and the brûléed banana French toast the most. The bacon accompaniment with the French toast is probably the best in the world. It was crisp and the high-quality meat was perfectly cooked. My husband praised it highly. All in all, this restaurant offers a stunning ocean view and excellent food. We stayed at the Cliff's so we visited Marisol mainly for drinks each evening. The only meal we had there was for brunch on our way back to San francisco. Drinks/Ambiance: 5/5 Drinks were refreshing, cocktails were handmaid, and they all tasted delicious. The views and sunsets here are unbeatable along the pristine central coastline. Service was was top tier. I did enjoy we would have our drinks and walk around the cliffs or go outside and enjoy the impeccable grounds. Brunch: was more of a pop in and out and sit at the bar moment but I ordered the biscuits and gravy. Service was great again but the actual biscuits were a bit dry and I wish they had more gravy to make up for it. But overall, not bad. Everything else tasted great! Would recommend. read more

We came here two times as we stayed at the hotel. Enjoyed drinks on our first day and later came for dinner. We came in for drinks when we were waiting for our room to be ready. They give you some delicious corn nuts with Tajín and lime. So yummy! For dinner we had lettuce wraps which were pretty good. The chicken tinga flautas were ok. When I saw Tinga for me I was expecting a chipotle flavored chicken but it was just chicken not bad just not what tinga I know is. Good portion and nice addition with the pickled onions. It is a bit on the pricier side for the food. They have some happy hour items we didn't get to try but looked good. We will deff try other items when we come back. The spritzer was the best drink. The margarita didn't have a lot of flavor just strong alcohol which not complaining just not what I was expecting. Service was good at the bar and in the dining area. On a recent staycation, we went in search of dig friendly breakfast places. Not only does Marisol have a dog friendly patio, they have a menu of items for your furry friends. Our pups thoroughly enjoyed sharing a beef & rice dish. I am a lover of sweet breakfast options and they have a French toast dish reminiscent of bananas Foster, with bruleed bananas. The dish came with sausage--it was all delicious!! My husband loved his traditional egg and bacon breakfast, and commented on really liking getting a side dish of condiments (jam, butter, catsup, etc). Came here for the Valentine's dinner special. It was $125 per person for a five course meal (but it really felt like it was 3.5 course meal). For the first course, I got the oysters (disappointed that it was only 3 pieces and they were really small). Next was a small bite to enhance the taste of the entrée meal which was a filet mignon. The filet mignon was really good, I've got to give them that. Then we were given sorbet which was delicious but again small portion. The last course was a dessert buffet, that was great. Enjoyed most of the desserts! We also ordered drinks. Another thing was that, our waiter offered us coffees without mentioning that it was extra cost and we thought it was complimentary given the way he was offering it. The filet mignon breakfast burrito, all you taste is refried beans. Very bland, needed way more seasoning. The special halibut fish and chips came with a super weird horse-radish flavored salsa, I was not expecting that. Also came with a pico de gallo. Hard to try and scoop salsas with fish and chips. They also originally brought out fish tacos when she ordered fish and chips so the fiancé had to wait for her food to be fixed. The drinks were forgot about, I asked for them after the food finally came out. The Bloody Mary was a 4/10, not good. Our server came once every 20 minutes, if that. We ordered carnitas tacos and steak chilaquiles and both dishes were absolutely delicious and bursting with flavors. The steak was cooked to perfection and the carnitas were moist and tender! Highly recommend these dishes! Our waiter was amazing, he was helpful, tentative, and efficient. He suggested the steak versus the shrimp that comes with the chilaquiles. He also brought us a side of jalapeños, salsa, and hot sauce without us requesting for it which was pretty impressive because that was very thoughtful. Don't come here unless you're staying at the Cliffs and want to pay a lot for subpar food. We got the fish tacos and the quinoa avocado salad with chicken. The battered fish in the tacos seemed previously frozen and had no flavor. The breading was soggy and did not have that satisfying crunch. The toppings on the tacos were very tasty and helped cover up the blandness of the fish. The tortillas were also a bit cold and broke easily. The quinoa avocado salad was decent, but the upcharge for chicken isn't worth it. The chicken was dry and we didn't get very much for a ten dollar upcharge. I did enjoy the dressing on the salad though, and the salad was plated nicely. The service was a bit slow and nothing great. We often felt forgot about. The ambiance was really nice. There's a beautiful view of the ocean from the patio. Pick this place if you care more about views than your dining experience. read more

Marisol has been our go to restaurant for family occasions for several years and has always been an excellent experience. Today, not so much. The host told us to just "walk around" to find our group instead of walking us to the table. Our wait staff was not as attentive as we have had in the past. The restaurant was not crowded or busy so I was surprised. The food! Disappointing is a polite word. I ordered "waffles". I received ONE round waffle which was barely warm, not crispy and had a texture like a frozen waffle that had been reheated. $16.00! It was accompanied by two sausages! The avocado "toast" ordered by one of our guest was a large uncut overly toasted flat bread with the toppings piled on which was not a pleasant experience. She had to request TOAST! I don't know if the kitchen staff is trained to think about how the plated meal would be received as a guest who is dining; I would think that the chef, cooks and wait staff would ensure that the food is hot, not over cooked or undercooked and have training sessions weekly or regularly that would cue them to think about the foods they are preparing and serving. On the positive side the weather was nice and we enjoyed the great view as always. read more

Every bite was rich, sweet, and satisfying. And the bacon? Easily the best I've ever had. Super crispy, full of flavor, and cooked just right. We showed up just before 7pm on a Thursday. There was no hostess at the front desk to greet or seat us. The waitress in passing, with hosting abilities, went catatonic and was unable to find us a table on the computer, giving us no response. As a result, we walked out to the patio and sat ourselves at an open table. There were many open tables on the patio. The hostess finally found us, did not introduce herself, rudely stated we could not sit at the table, stated we had to check in with the hostess, provided zero customer service and walked away without waiting for a response from us. When we went back to check in with the hostess, there was a line out the door. Goes without saying, we left. Please work on your customer service and ditch your petty power trip. read more
