This location makes the curry beef brisket better than the Metrotown location. However, they only give a few pieces of beef brisket and it's mostly potatoes and sauce. We usually order an extra bowl of rice for $3 to finish the sauce. The Haianese chicken with oil rice is also very popular here. Service is usually friendly. Parking is available on Victoria, as well as the side streets. The dining area is split into 2 areas, as they are taking up 2 storefronts so to speak. Staff are friendly and chatty and quick. No complaints. The signature dish for this chain is their curry beef brisket rice. Tasty, except the curry sauce is way too salty. Something to keep in mind. I'm surprised it took me so long to try this place as curry beef brisket and bake Portuguese rice are some of my favourite dishes, and Mui Garden definitely delivered. Both dishes were very flavourful with generous portions. It was two of us and we ended up with lots of leftovers. You also get a half price drink with the curry brisket and rice. The service was just okay, nothing I didn't expect although it took us very long to get served as they were busy with takeout and delivery orders. We went on a Saturday afternoon and it was busy but with no wait, and spacious, comfortable seating in booths or tables. We were able to pay cash or debit. This Hong Kong cafe open for 20+ years has been a comfort place for me growing up. Always loved their curry beef brisket and hai nam chicken, never disappointed with the portions at this place. The portions were generous, and even with 13 people, we couldn't finish everything. There were great selection of vegetarian options for our needs. Mui Garden offered complimentary soup as a starter, which was full of flavors. The pricing per dish was reasonable. Service: Amazing and attentive service. Food was ok but server was really rude. They have chef recommended dishes that just have pictures and no prices. So when my mother asked how much a particular dish was the waitress answered. My mother then asked if it included a drink (like most Chinese restaurants would) the waitress said it was like $1.00 more. My mother declined and the waitress responded I knew you weren't going to order a drink bc you asked what the prices were. I like the braised pork belly preserved vegetable on rice here. The pork belly is wobbly soft and tender. Flavorful gravy. A bit sweet maybe due to the preserved vegetable. It is a bit of a comfort food for me as it reminded me of what my grandmother used to cook when I was young. This would be great with plain congee too. The green beans with minced meat was ok. Tasted better on the day itself than the next day. I guess this is one dish which is not great for leftovers. The fried chicken wings were crispy and tasty. Great snack. There are limited seating as half the restaurant has been closed off due to covid. I called to place order for pick up so that I did not have to wait. Cash only. I would recommend the Burnaby location over the Fraserview location on Victoria. Here, I noticed two servers allowing certain customers, such as those they know or regular diners, to skip the line. We came in here a couple of weeks ago, mid afternoon outside of lunch hours (around 2.30pm, perhaps it was 3pm) and though, it's not a big room, it was still nearly full. I went 5:30pm. Only 2 tables were serveing. I ordered their Hanian chicken rice, $10.50. The food serve in disposal box. When I opened 2 boxes, I was rice, I was chicken. I thought I ordered kid meal. 4 small pieces chicken look like my half size Gslexy 10 phone. The rice size less than 1/3 than before. Soup size is ok. I understand they saved their cost because I guess their sale maybe low. I prefer they charge extra $1.5 to $2. At least the portion is normal. I ordered regular meal. Strange enough, I really didn't expect that this Mui Garden Chinese restaurant would bother with contact tracing but they at least have a registry for each patron and their phone number! Hand sanitizer and all ! We had lunch there at 11.30 am 4 February 2022, and it was not crowded. There was parking at the rear. By the time 12.30 rolls around, there were much more people. Their Curry pork chops were still as good. The sweet and sour pork was not as crispy as they used to be. That was disappointing. The pork cubes though, were good. We love it when they have a bit of fat with it. A waitress recommended their new deep fried salmon cake. Now even my wife who loves salmon was not impressed. Smelly !!! Used to come quite often for their take out because its close to home, cheap and not bad in terms of taste! We really often got the Free Range Haianese Chicken, Beef Curry and the Char Keow Teuy. Being a Malaysian and Chinese fusion restaurant, their curry is not spicy, very creamy and delicious. Also, the chicken is firm but not very flavourful but their chicken rice is one of my favourites. Finally, their Char Keow Teuy is always a little spicy but has nice Wok Hei. My dad really enjoys their sweet and sour pork as well as the homestyle spaghetti which is a ketchup sauce with some ham, sausage and veggies. The sweet and sour pork is a bit too soggy (maybe from the take out) and breaded heavily. Their pork pieces are also fatty and the sauce too sweet. The spaghetti is also past al dente (my dad likes this!) but very reminiscent of Hong Kong style foods. Overall, good prices for decent food and a great curry! read more

3.5 Lately, I had been "re-visiting " all these Old Timer of Restaurants, one by one brings back lots of memories of Vancouver in a more simpler days when Burger is a Burger, nothing like Gourmet Burgers; Hot Dog is a Hot Dog, nothing like a Japadog!! Etc. ... Not complaining about all the new entries into the food scene, but once in a while you would want to taste the "good old days" when things were very predictable and reliable! Case in point; Mui's Garden ( now only 2 locations left ) this one and the one in Richmond. Was one of the HK Style Cafes that had its heyday when rush of Hong Kong immigrants call Vancouver home in the late 80's and early 90's. They specialized in Hainanese Chicken Rice, HK Style Curries, Fish Ball Noodles and so on... I'm happy to say the Chicken Rice and the Rice Noodles are still way up there( Chicken is tender and succulent; Rice Noodles are silky smooth and almost the same as in HK ). The only disappointment is the Singapore Style Rice Vermicelli ( its spicy enough but lacks other flavourings ). I'm not complaining, I'm just happy to see that they are still around! They are not checking vaccination records at all for dine-in customers. Violating COVID-19 PHO orders. Witnessed this for multiple tables while dealing with a takeout order issue they refused to resolve, only because it was done through UberEats. Re: newly opened branch in Burnaby. They have some debugging to do with the new staff. Unlike the Vancouver one, the Hainan chicken was overcooked, they forgot to add salt to the ginger oil. As for the curry beef stew, the beef was not stewed long enough, it was super tough, we had to use hands to pull and gnaw off. As a reminder to anyone who does take outs, all the set dinners that claims to include dessert "should" have a disclaimer that desserts are "only for dine in". A bit of false advertising in menu, you will only find out once you're home and call to ask about missing desserts. read more

However, the waitresse was rude and had no patience at all when she handled our complaint, so we had to talk to their manger to get clean plates and a proper apology. We ordered their famous Hainanese chicken and the sweet and sour pork w/ pineapple and sides of rice to share. The chicken was nicely cooked and not too salty. A group of 5 of us came here at 12:16pm on a Friday. We were fortunately there right before spring break and on a sunny day, so we were sat down right away. We called ahead to reserve a table and got seated on time. Service was super fast, relatively friendly, food was ample and great and waters/drinks were filled. We got a dinner for 6 for $88 and added a chicken curry dish which was not as good as the beef brisket... it was basically boiled chicken w curry sauce on top. But at $102+tax and tip, I thought it was a fair price and there were leftovers to take home. I'm not convinced the service would have been as good and responsive if I were to go without the regulars there considering my experience the first time, but I'm sure the food would have still been good and I'm willing to give it another shot. read more

I use to come here all the time as a kid, so this was pure nostalgia for me. I arrived around 8pm so it wasn't super busy. Just like many Asian cafe style restaurants, it's cash only but thankfully there's plenty of signs everywhere. Also it really helps if you know how to speak Chinese(Cantonese in my experience) because all the servers speak Chinese. We got seated promptly, the food came super quick as well. We had the beef brisket curry, prawn curry, satay skewers, fried beans, and house special chow mein. The beef brisket is my absolute favourite, its filled with chunks of brisket and potatoes. The prawn curry was my partner's favourite, with perfectly cooked prawns, onions, bell peppers, and potatoes. The fried beans was nice as well. The satay was alright, it came with cucumbers and pineapples as well as some sauce. The house fried chow mein we did not enjoy though, the crab stick was super mushy and just turn us off the whole dish. We'll still be back though! Their curries are still amazing and the lady who helped us pack our food was so friendly. read more

* Decent HK cafe * I'm not sure why but even though I didn't grow up in Hong Kong, Hong Kong style cafes still feel comforting to me. This spot is a classic version with all the typical offerings. I ordered the seafood baked rice, which came with your choice of drink (I took the cold milk tea). The baked seafood rice had a nice selection of seafood including scallops, shrimp, mussels, squid, a fish fillet (I believe it was tilapia), and fake crab. All of the seafood was nicely prepared (with the exception of the fake crab which I am just never really a fan of) without being overly chewy. This is my favorite place in Vancouver to get Chinese style curry dishes. I like to rotate through my favorite restaurants so by the time it gets back to Mui Garden, I can't bring myself to order anything else besides the curry. There's Curry Chicken with Rice, Curry Beef Brisket with Rice, Curry Lamb with Rice... see the pattern here? All the curry dishes are cooked with potato as well and it is always soft enough without being mushy. As for ambience, there's not much to look at, it's a typical HK style cafe and the service is not too bad. There may be a time when I'll order something else, but until then, I'll be having my curry. read more

I then searched for the owner's number - and got a hold of him. I told him about the food safety issue and sent a picture to show the long metal wire found inside the baked spaghetti. He then said the co-owner in charge will call me for further investigation - guess what? No call from the co-owner as "she is busy this evening", I was told.
