Everything looks good, but taste is a completely different story. This is a good spot to grab some bread or cake and go. I wouldn't suggest wasting your money for a birthday cake of any sort. I've tried their cakes and macarons, but the flavor and texture aren't as good as the other bakeries in the area and they are also pricier here. There also are not many seats and you are likely to get smacked into by the rush of people that come in and out. I would suggest buying from here and eating it at a park or across the street at the library. Staff were stingy when I asked for napkins and a utensil to eat the cake.

Ever since it opened i wanted to give it a try but never did until recently cause i got super hungry and i was doing rounds. This bakery is deff different from the bakeries around Flushing. This one was different from the chinese bakeries and the korean ones. This bakery I feel are more for younger people since there were lots of cupcakes and cakes (and buns but sweet ones) The buns are different of course. I've tried the mochi bun and another time the chocolate custard bun. BOTH were yummy as heck. The mochi bun wasn't sweet which I thought was great and in the center of the bun inside it had a mochi. It was so cool , overall the bun wasn't plain but it wasn't overly sweet. I liked it anyways. I felt it was unique and i like mochi and it was great. The chocolate custard was interesting as well. It was sort of like a dessert kinda bun not your breakfast bun. I thought it was more like a snack bun when i was eating it. I'm not saying it's bad. It not super sweet either its a really good bun with chocolate custard! yummmm Another time I had their oreo cheesecake and it was amazing!! it was soft and smooth. But I also got the mango mousse and I was disappointed. There was mango taste but It doesn't taste natural. Also the texture of the mousse was weird, it was like jelly ish texture. I couldn't even finish it ...I didn't want to. The place also had cupcakes and macaroons! The displays of cakes and everything was really nice. Idk I only had one disappointing thing so the place seems good enough for now. But I kind of want to try their cupcakes but i wonder if it's anything special or it's just well.... a cupcake. You know? The people that works there are ehh(uninterested, unfriendly, the works...)....I didn't ask their help but the way they acted and such when i paid for my buns/cakes. I just didn't like it. They didn't act friendly whatsoever and didn't even smile. Pffft...they prolly don't like their job. That's what I got to say about them!!

I always go here for egg tarts and quick on-the-go pastries. The cakes aren't unhealthy because of the less sugar and fat. Everything is balanced and I have tried at least half of the store! I love the pastries a lot and will keep coming back.

Not the most convenient location as it's in the heart of traffic central and I had to knock off stars because they didn't have the bubble tea that was on their menu. They do have a decent selection of cakes with some interesting flavors. One flavor I went to go try in particular was their raspberry white chocolate cake. Definitely a bite into diabetes heaven but worth the cheat day to cure my blahs of feeling sickish. Loved how the tartness of the raspberry complimented the sweetness of the whipped cream and the piece of macaron was to die for. I also really enjoyed the piece of white chocolate and strawberry on top. The cake was also nice and spongey and loved how they had a layer of yellow sponge and chocolate sponge. It was kind of sad they didn't have the bubble tea the boyfriend wanted but I got him an eclair which he hasn't tried yet but I know must be just as good as my cake slice was. Will definitely consider giving this place another chance and trying that tiramisu slice next time.

Ordered the Japanese Cheesecake. It had a beautiful look. However, the cheese concentrate was too little... I think they should make the cheese concentrate a little bit stronger

It's okay here. It's definitely pretty when you walk in, but it's small. When you walk in you sorta get the feeling of when you walk into Paris Baguette, just with less people. Of course, the pastries are very appealing, and it makes you just want to buy it and eat it. It's a little cheaper than Paris Baguette and it doesn't taste as good (you get what you pay for) and it's not as fresh as the ones that they serve in Paris Baguette. I bought a strawberry croissant with chocolate syrup for $2 there, and it tasted good but not as fresh. The strawberries were a little sour. It's just a good place to go when you're on the run and you need something to munch on :-)

I am a fan of the pandan flavor desserts and bought two that I wanted to try. One being a roll cake and the other layer cake. The pandan roll cake with taro I was told is a specialty that they only have on weekends. It was really flavorful, moist and spongy, just perfectly touched with a dash of sweetness in both the cake and the cream - I personally don't like overly sweet foods, and this is just perfect for me and my mom. I'm equally pleased with the layer cake as well it was very fresh and have that "QQ" texture - deliciously chewy and bouncy. This too, just hit right for me on the gentle sweetness, the pandan flavor keeping the spotlight in this dessert. My mom and I are big fans of these desserts. We just came back trying out others pandan layer cakes in Downtown Flushing and this shop beats them by a large margin. I hope to come back more when we could even though this shop is quite a distance for us.

I walked into a clean, well lit space designed for quick selection rather than lingering, and the display cases were filled with brightly decorated cakes and pastries that looked consistently fresh. The mango based cakes are the most consistent thing here. I tried one and found it light, creamy, and built around fresh fruit rather than overly heavy frosting, which made it easy to finish even after a full meal. The matcha cake also worked well, leaning more milky than bitter, with a soft sponge that held its structure without feeling dry. The pork floss cakes are one of the more interesting savory sweet options, and they came out better than I expected since they did not go overboard on sweetness. The croissants and egg tarts are solid supporting items rather than the main reason to come. The croissant I had was flaky with a noticeable butter layer, and the egg tart was best eaten warm as the custard tightens up when cold. The purple rice desserts are heavier but work if I want something more filling and texturally different from the fruit cakes. Service was generally efficient even when the bakery was busy, and the staff moved through orders quickly. Prices sit a bit higher than older style Flushing bakeries, but the tradeoff is cleaner presentation, more modern flavor combinations, and consistently fresh looking cakes. For a modern bakery stop in Flushing, Shakalaka delivers on quality and visual appeal.

At $2.95 each I got a baked roast pork bun, and a pineapple topping custard bun. Both were very big and every component was high-quality. The pork inside was a natural looking sauce - not bright red, the pork was cut up into regular pieces/strips it was like a healthy meal. The bread part was fluffy, dense and didn't feel like an empty white flour situation. The custard bun had a very generous amount of a custard in it and the pineapple topping didn't crumble off and fall off into pieces, but was very nicely made shell. And it was "Not-too-Sweet"! AND they were also warm! The shop's pretty simple with maybe 10 different items, also frozen baos to go, lotus wrapped sticky rice and tarts, the homemade pineapple cakes looked good. I got a Hong Kong milk tea (hot) $2.25, but the flavors weren't that strong. There were a lot of students picking up snacks, probably from nearby Queens, College, young families, a grandpa and his adult grandson came in for hot milk tea, and egg tarts. The lady who I assume is the boss said she had held a pop-up shop about two years prior which blew up, hence what we see here. The selection here was deceptively small compared to chain bakeries, but it didn't take us long recognise how much power the smaller selection packs and, actually, how the selection really is not small at all. The matcha red bean loaf grabbed my attention straight away and didn't disappoint, but their red bean bun was just as impressive, as it's a more bread-y counterpart to the fluffy versions other bakeries typically have. The onioissant is definitely experimental and worked better on the chive bacon cream cheese one than on the pollack roe, which was a bit too much on the salty and fishy side for my liking. Their chocolate horn is at least twice as big as a typical one you'll find at other bakeries and has a rich dark chocolate filling which was a pleasant surprise. Their coffee brioche pastry was another hit, thanks to the strong coffee filling and delicate layers of pastry. There's ample tables and chairs, beverage menu, and I'm sure we'd come hang if we lived closer. I can't wait to go back.
