While visiting family in the area we decided to try Muchachos Tacos as it came highly recommended. Nestled in the cute town of Wallace, this spot is a hole in the wall (in the best way) restaurant that is easy to walk past, but you'd be missing out if you did! There isn't much seating inside and on the day we were there it was unseasonably cold, so patio seating was out of the question. We were able to play a little table Tetris with some of the other diners and piece together a spot for the three of us. The interior is decorated with lucha libre masks and art, so it adds a funky vibe. There was one waitress holding down the restaurant and she was on top of it! She greeted us and was back within a few minutes to take our order. I'm primarily vegetarian, but sometimes splurge on seafood, so I couldn't pass up the Shrimp Al Fuego taco as I love spicy food. It was large for a street taco and was packed with large, juicy shrimp. I will say it was not that spicy, as advertised, (although I have a high spice tolerance) and a bit on the expensive side, but very flavorful. I do wish the tortilla was warmed or toasted to amplify the flavor. They had a huge selection of hot sauces, including some local ones, which was really cool. I was tempted to try a margarita, but they didn't have the seasonal huckleberry jalapeño available, so I decided to stick with water. The tacos here are fantastic. I had the chicken Tinga and vegetarian taco and they were both delicious and filling. Hubby had the shrimp Acapulco and a pork. He enjoyed both tacos and said the shrimp was the single best taco he had ever eaten in his life. The shrimp were cooked to perfection. This is a small restaurant, I think owner operated and they were busy. However, they handled everything we needed timely. Cute little restaurant tucked in The tiny town of Wallace ID... the center of the universe! We shared 4 different street tacos and a crunch wrap. The shrimp taco and the pork tacos were very satisfying. The crunch wrap was stuffed with spicy chicken and was very filling. They did not offer fountain drinks so we chose bottled soda from the cooler. Our total bill was over $60! The air conditioning was broken and it was hot inside during Fourth of July weekend. This place does not accommodate large crowds or big family dining. Only a few small tables and a four stools at bar. With limited options in Wallace you're at the mercy of whatever is open, especially on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday when many restaurants (and businesses in general) are closed. I ordered the marinated filet and al pastor tacos which are $6 for one taco and $10 for two tacos. The marinated filet was surprisingly very flavorful and I really liked this one. The al pastor was meh and is not what it should be at all. It was more like shredded meat with some sauce that tasted nothing like al pastor. I'd definitely recommend the marinated filet but definitely not the al pastor. The tacos themselves were pretty small too and not super filling. Also note that there is a 3% increase if you pay with card. read more

Good food and drinks but it's frustrating when a few 2 tops that arrived 10 minutes + after our 2 top got their food first. They also were able to settle up 10-15 before our 2 top. Not clear if it's seat yourself or wait for host. Small place but they need more than 1 waiter to cover inside and outside or do a better job at tracking who has been waiting the longest for service. That would probably keep people seated instead of going to the counter to pay because they have been waiting an unreasonable amount of time. Definitely a hot mess. read more

Muchachos Tacos' food was amazing and so was the service. We set out to go to a different restaurant in town but it was closed. We got lucky ended up at Muchachos. The owner does all the cooking and everything was delicious. The waitress was friendly and attentive despite being slammed. They did not skimp on the tequila in the margaritas. Everything we ordered was delicious. Someone told us that the restaurant is under new ownership and is a vast improvement. Owner lady was lovely and friendly. We ordered chips, a burrito, two tacos, and two soft drinks. $34.00 approx. Holy smokes, it's not right. Grilled the burrito dry like a Quesadilla. Tortilla so dry that it crumbled. No fresh salsa as in pico, rather a paste. But aside from that was the real issue; all three items had so much salt that we tried one bite and stopped. We thought it was possibly a trick or something. So unhealthy and bad. Waitress asked us, we told her, she shrugged and walked away. Bill came, we paid, we left everything on the counter. First, I HATE, HATE, HATE credit card surcharges and Muchachos has one. Second, they were open til 7:00 pm on a Sunday night in Wallace which was good. Our server, Katy Perry look a like, was as nice as you could ever hope for. Pork burritos were fairly big and tasty. Street tacos were good but small. Overall experience was brief in duration but very pleasant. Food came out very quickly at the end of the night. Everyone had some indigestion or heartburn afterwards so not sure what caused that but usually a lard issue for us with Mexican food, hence the four stars vs. five. My lady ordered one beef and one pork taco. I ordered two shrimp tacos. Why one would order shrimp tacos in Idaho is a puzzle all on its own but I did it anyways. I toke a bite of my shrimp taco and spit it out. This is a very uncommon behavior because I'm a bottomless pit of hunger. They put balsamic vinaigrette and random diced veggies in it that did not mesh well together. I try a bite of of the beef and pork tacos which were better but still lacking in flavor. Since we moved to the area last summer, we gave up all hope on any kind of culinary delights. Remember the old line about good things coming in small packages? This is truly a hole in the wall, smack dab on the main drag in Wallace, and it does not disappoint! Not that you need more reviews, good or bad, the mere fact that you have stayed open through COVID, and with a fairly short window for summer season, speaks volumes! Coming from a vast experience in food management, you don't see one 'woman' shows that not only survive, but thrive! My wife is not as keen on spicy as I am, but we had a variety of choices, we were both very satisfied. Thank God it's not a huge corporate dynasty palace, keep the tourists away! Not to mention, my family are torrid Jack Black fans, nacho libre is liberally represented for the backdrop, just the baste!!! This is a local haunt, and I implore all of you to support it during the lean seasons, when they are able to be open. I see big things on the horizon with this simple, comfort food concept. Great food at a good price. Loved that they offered bowl options for any burrito, so we tried two different ones of those - the chicken and marinated steak. The sauces were clearly homemade and unique, and what sets this place apart. The meat was also good quality, as sometimes steak especially can be tough if cheaper quality. Very limited seating, but we got ours to go, so it wasn't a problem. The server definitely did not want to be there, but maybe she'd just had a rough day. This is not Mexican food. And it's WAY over priced. We ordered the 3 chicken tacos, with a side of rice and beans and chips and salsa, and it cost us $30. The chicken had huge pieces of fat and skin that I picked out before eating. The guacamole was good but they put too much in the taco. The rice was not Spanish rice but it was ok, the beans were a container of kidney beans and garbanzo beans. The chips had potential but were fried for too long and the salsa was nasty.
