I wanted to love this place. We were visiting Wallace for the first time. I found this place on Yelp, sounded good so we stopped in. The good: food was pretty good. Burger comes dry with no sauce or mayo. Kinda weird. Mayo was not offered. Fries were good, but I wish they would just come with the burger rather than being an upgrade. Shakes were very good. The bad: the wait was way too long after we ordered. They weren't even busy. The server kept acting all frazzled which was confusing. A table that got Sat about 10 minutes after us got their food (Very similar order) about 10 minutes before we did. When the table behind us that had been sat 20 minutes after us got food I grabbed the server and asked her what was going on. She went back into the kitchen and then came running back. She had given our food to the table behind us. I doubt we will try this place again. Obviously other people have had much better experiences. read more

Great stop with good burgers and fun service in an visually entertaining facility. You could spend hours looking at the walls, shelves, and ceiling. The succulent burgers came with chips and we ordered a side of fries to share. There were enough fresh and crispy fries to feed six people, their dogs, and the people at the next table. I'm afraid this place puts a serious dent in Idaho potato production. We visited with the owner, a wonderful lady with a sense of humor that lit up our afternoon. Was really looking forward to checking this place out but they don't go by the hours posted online nor in the window and they were inconsistent. After 2 days of trying, we gave up. It's difficult to find food in Wallace in general. Largest majority of restaurants open after folks leave for the trails and close before everybody comes back. It's like they're allergic to money. The Red Light Garage is one of those perfectly unique establishments one loves to come upon while traveling. The ambiance is laid back and colorful: For-sale antique chandeliers and musical instruments hang from the ceiling. Classic vinyl booths, as well as a bar provide seating options inside, while outside there's a covered deck. The walls are covered with license plates from all over. Sadly I've never had a chance to eat here as I always seem to pass through Wallace at latte time. The lattes are fab though and I have no doubts that the mexican fare, sandwiches and breakfast items are great. Homemade ice cream is another choice, with huckleberry being a local option. If you're driving by on I-90, definitely stop in for a break. Just take a right at the space ship on the corner. ;) read more

A must stop for lunch! The best burger and fries plus wine and beer! Barbara was a delightful host who played some songs from the juke box for us. Works great and so nostalgic to hear those old songs. Kids will love this place with all the antique decorations and polished rocks you can buy by the bag. I love going to Wallace because I am a geologist and loved Dantes Peak. On the way home from Glacier my boyfriends family and I stopped here for some snacks and shakes. The place was packed and service was slow, but that's ok since it's a super small town and it's family run. We all got huckleberry milkshakes, which were out of this world. We stopped here for breakfast. It was HORRIBLE! Potatoes weren't cooked, bacon was more like a thin, crispy bacon chip. No flavor. We ordered sourdough toast, they brought whole wheat without checking with us. She said they were out of sourdough. Never did they offer an English muffin or any option, whole wheat was delivered. Yuk!!! Dry and nasty!! Now to service.....not one time did she ask if she could refill coffee, until she brought our check she did not come to the table after delivering the food. She did bring us refills AFTER we had to hunt her down. I got up to find her in order to get some condiments. Terrible service, awful food. We will never return!! read more

Staying at the Stardust Motel right next door, and saw their sign for huckleberry milkshakes. For $4.50 it was very tasty and thick and full of huckleberrys. Tonight we walked over to the melodrama (I would not recommend that experience) in town. A block or two away. The next day, we came back here for breakfast and had the Breakfast burrito Huckleberry pancake Everything was delicious. The pancake reminded me of the ones my mom made growing up while we were camping and the kids picked the huckleberries. I'd say one pancake for over $8 was too pricey tho. This is an interesting place for lunch - not many choices in town. We stopped here to see the city that Dante's Peak was filmed in - and it was the only place we could find. The place is a combination of antiques, nick-knacks and misc items with tables mixed in - fun to see. The food was okay, but the waitress needs more training. Talk about the slowest service I have ever received anywhere. I'm not over exaggerating when I say it took 45min maybe even longer for our food to come out. The bad part is that it wasn't even really that busy for service to be so slow. I ordered egg whites instead of just eggs and the waiter looked at me like I was crazy and replied "that's going to be really difficult." Ummm what...so confused. I believe the meal I ordered comes with two eggs and I barley got one fork full of egg whites for my whole meal. I'll definitely be skipping this place next time we're in town. I had to do it for a ten year old and the thirteen year old struggled. The one side was so tough you could retread a tire with it. We shared both plates and were pleasantly full. The star rating on Yelp helped us decide to try it! It was like going back in time. I loved the servers. I think one may have been the owner. I watched as two tables took forever to clean off and a third where the couple waited forever to even get their orders taken. This morning my son and I decided to get off the interstate to look for a hearty, homemade breakfast, and we discovered a goldmine in little old Wallace. We both ordered the biscuits and gravy special which INCLUDED bacon, eggs and potatoes, for $8.90!!! Not only were the portions large but the quality was excellent. Not to be outdone, was the service, which was friendly and prompt. Our waitress was never more than a few feet away, and gladly handled all of our requests.
