As a tradition in my family, we like to trade experiences for Christmas. My experience was a culinary first for some, and so we sought out a location that had both Thai and Sushi. We certainly lucked out finding Muang Thai. We made a reservation - not thinking about their actual hours of operation - and only after finishing did we find that they stayed open late, just for us! It was a fantastic experience. Everyone was very friendly and considerate of our larger group. The meal started with a sampling of sushi which included the Spicy Tuna Role, the Sashimi sampler and Octopus and Eel Nigiri. The Sushi was great. The spicy tuna was spicy (as expected!) and we really enjoyed it. We added on some Sake for a little Christmas cheer. The folks at the restaurant recommended the Lychee Sake - definitely a good choice if you cannot decide. We went with three selections of Thai food to share around the table: Pad Thai with Chicken, Pad See Ew with Beef, and Massaman Curry with Chicken. We were really impressed with the Pad See Ew that came out first, and the dishes just kept getting better! They were very generous in their portions, and we had quite a few leftovers. This place gets two thumbs up from everyone in our group - that is 12 thumbs up! A fantastic experience, and we look forward to returning. read more

We were just passing through town and happened to find this place on Yelp. Very glad we did, although the service was a bit slow and the food was a bit pricey, the quality of the food made up for it. I had always wanted to stop into this restaurant, and every time I passed it, I thought of going in. So finally yesterday, I decided to go for it and went in for dinner. When you walk in, you can seat yourself anywhere you want, and the inside is dark. Not in a bad way, in a comforting way. It feels intimate, quiet and lightly decorated. There are authentic art pieces on the wall that add to the ambiance of the place. The service was okay. I know that a lot of people in these reviews complain about the service, but as a family-run restaurant, it was exactly what I had expected. My water glass never stayed empty long and my plates were cleared in a very timely fashion. Their eggrolls were fantastic, and served with probably the best peanut sauce I have ever had. They were light, crunchy and absolutely divine. I ordered the Pad Pri King with a spicy tuna roll, and I cannot rave enough about how great they both were. The Pad Pri King had the most wonderful aroma, and the spicy tuna roll was perfectly moist. It was a little spicier than the STR's I'm used to, but it was a delightful burn. My boyfriend ordered the Korean Beef Ribs and was a little concerned when they came out, with a smaller section of ribs, but paired with sticky rice, pho broth and a nice fried egg on top of the rice was enough to keep him full, and that is saying a lot. The bill was just under $40, everything was fantastically prepared, priced and presented. I will definitely be returning in the future, because there are SO MANY items that I want to try! read more

Was driving back to Minnesota from Chicago and decided to make a pit stop for Thai food. Choosing this place was no regrets... I ordered the red curry and it hit the spot. The flavor wasn't too spicy or sweet. We also tried some of the sushi rolls. They were just alright. The girlfriend roll was probably the best one, rating on flavor. Place have varieties and yummy food but service is super slow and very poor. I would come for the food but if you are considering dining in, BEWARE of slow orders, be ready to feel uncomfortable and unwelcome/stranger, some plates are kind of dirty and no waitress to ask you how the food is or need refills. Bottom line, they don't need the TIP. They're not low on staff as I can see and Hear them talk loudly behind the kitchen. They're not completely rude too, it's just their atmosphere and the way they set their standards in their own restaurant that makes them seem to not care their customers as much. They mind as well change the whole aspect into like Ichiran where you can dine in solo where you don't need to talk but write what you want to eat on a piece of paper but then again, I'm pretty sure with their slow service, they might forget about you sitting behind that table . Muang Thai is one of the best restaurants in the city, and definitely one I frequent most often. My wife loves their Sushi, I think the Tiger roll is her favorite, and Thai Tea. I try to get different things each time, but normally end up on a favorite like the Korean BBQ short ribs. The broth is light and flavorful and the ribs pack a good amount of flavor to eat with the rice. Every time we have gone the staff has been amazing. This last time, that prompted this review, I ordered pick up. I hadn't realized that Yelp is out of date, and that they now close at 11. My order was pretty last minute (10:40ish) and I didn't get there until 11. The young woman was still very courteous and made sure to double check my food without me asking to make sure everything was right, even though it was past closing time. In conclusion, the food is top notch, and the service is impeccable. I would Muang Thai to anyone in the area. read more

I don't want to give this restaurant bad reviews but I am just going to have to tell the truth about my experiences with this restaurant. 1st experience: my husband and I had gone to this restaurant for the first time for our anniversary. My husband had ordered a fried rice but instead they brought out the special fried rice. Our waiter apologized and took the platter back and returned with our original order. Later we asked if we could have a pitcher of water for our table so we could refill our own glasses, but instead our waiter only filled up my cup and left our table. He didn't even fill up my husband's cup. I asked if they had any lemons so that I could drink it with my water, the waiter had said yes, but brought out limes instead. When we were paying the bill, we were charged with both house special fried rice (the mistake) and fried rice (what my husband had ordered). We were charged because my husband had already took a bite of the mistake. Which I thought was so stupid! 2nd experience: we decided to give muang Thai another try. But this time was just horrible. The food was right this time, but customer service was just horrible! Our waitress decided to eat first before punching in our food so it took about almost an hour for our food to be punched in. After that no one ever came to check up on us. There was another group on the other side of the restaurant and the waitress had checked up on them three times while we just sat there. 3rd experience: all the Hmong stores and restaurants were closed so we called muang Thai to see how much their eggrolls and spring rolls costed. The man on the phone told us the amount and then hung up on us before we could even decide if we wanted to order. Just plain out rude! I like their food but I just hate the way they run their place. The way the people treat us. These have been my experiences. I have given them chances to prove to me that things might change but even the little small mistakes mean a lot. This place is our new replacement since Ninja closed. All dishes we tried were really good. My only negative comment...I don't prefer their version of potstickers. They are deep fried instead of being lightly fried in a skillet. Traditionally, most places prepare them soft with slightly crunchy edges. These were entirely deep fried crunchy...not my preference! They also serve them with sweet and sour sauce instead of the traditional dipping sauce. We will return...many other interesting dishes to try! read more

I was indifferent to eating here because the day I went, Eggroll Plus was closed so I opted for Muang Thai. I got the chicken pad Thai with a tiger roll while my husband got the masaman curry and my cousin got the pork belly with asparagus (?). I wasn't sure what to expect but I regret to say that I've had much better tasting food in other States. The pad Thai was bland, the masaman curry lacked flavor, and the pork belly was over-salted while the sushi was completely doused with sauce. I feel bad for giving 2 stars because the staff was friendly and the service was quick and efficient as well as professional. The coconut juice was good, though. I may go back once more to give the restaurant a second try. I'm not sure if it was just that one day that the food was off or what, but hopefully a second experience will turn out better. read more

Very good food. However, the dining experience was undermined by the uncleanliness of the restaurant. Every container/jar in condiment tray on the table was sticky, and full of fingerprints. I tried switching out some of our sauces with a different table's tray....& saw the same issue. The shelf on the wall above us was totally dusty, where you could have written your name in the dust. Went to this place because it was a Saturday and our favorite (Egg Roll Plus) was closed. We were happy to find another place to fix our thai cravings close to home. We always order green curry and pad thai when we eat at a new thai restaurant. Curry was seasoned well and pad thai was on the sweet side (could have used a bit more acidity or an extra slice of lime). Overall, it was really good and we will be back. A great place to get some classic Thai/Vietnamese food! Pad Ka Pow Special is divine here. Definitely recommend the Tom Yum Kung as well for a soup. I go here frequently if I'm in the mood for Thai food. Service is pretty quick, more so during the week. Can be quite slow if it's the weekend and dinner time. As much as I would love to like this place, I consistently have a bad experience here. First two times I went here, near the grand opening and about 2 weeks after, I got my order wrong the first time, and they didn't even get my order the second time. I decide to keep giving them a try, until I get my order exactly how I wanted it and that was by the 5th try!! after that it was so so and on my 7th-8th visit (about 7-9 months later), they brought out my condiments but totally forgot my order that was suppose to come with it, so I had to ask them already near the end of our meal(they rarely check up on you), when they did bring it out, it wasn't even correct! So overall would you go to a restaurant that gets your order correct 50% of the time? The food is meh, the customer service may be friendly but is extremely poor in execution, and the only reason to go there is because its the only asian restaurant open til 2 PM during the weekends, Other then that, almost any place serving pho or thai food almost always beats out going here during normal hours. read more

The restaurant is nothing special in appearance, it is an open room that can get noisy. However, the food is worth the trip. We rarely eat in the restaurant but it is a great place to get food for home. Ordered take-out. Waitress taking my order over the phone hung up on me. I called back thinking the call had dropped, but then realized she had just hung up after she told me the amount. Food was in multiple bags and already tied, so we couldn't check to make sure it was all there. Tried to ask the waitress, but she started talking to someone else and was quite rude. When we got home there was no rice to go with our curry.
