The fish is fresh and tasty, the prices reasonable, and the portions above average...better than any Japanese food I've had in Eau Claire. Be sure to try the harumaki and edamame for apps. Negative reviews may mention slow service (happens everywhere now with lack of staff) or maybe didn't care for the non-Japanese food there. I've primarily eaten fish as my main protein for the past 12 years in Southern California, so I'm very selective when it comes to sushi. I'll admit I've been a bit spoiled. So far, Sakura is the only place near Eau Claire/Chippewa where I'll order sushi. Everything was very good. On Saturday we received excellent service by Jesus--and he mixes a mean lemon drop martini, too! Sakura was definitely busy; we saw peeps from age 2 to 80 noshing on soups, salads, apps, udon, noodles, fried rice, hibachi dinners, along with sushi and rolls. For dinner we went with the Pink Lotus, East Roll, Shrimp Tempura Roll, Spicy Crab Roll and Creamy Spider Roll. Our absolute fav was the Pink Lotus Roll (soy paper wrapped with Spicy tuna, shrimp tempura , cucumber and Avocado , topped with spicy crab, scallions and masago, served with spicy mayo and eel sauce); it was so well-balanced and delicious!! We are so glad we did. The sushi was delicious as was the cooked food. Everything was presented very nicely as well. Service was good even though the restaurant was crowded. Ordered chicken fried rice and a California Roll to go (no indoor dinning right now). I have to say the California Roll was very good and the sole reason I'm giving my meal at least 3 Stars. The fried rice on the other hand, was a real let down! For $8 the fried rice was a good size portion, but the flavor was lacking. The chicken was cut into thin, dry, very processed flat strips, and were not very easy to find in the meal. All of the veggies where literally the size of tiny flecks... honestly, I think they might have been sprinkled or shaken from a jar. Either-way..... utterly tasteless! I'm a vegetarian, so finding places to eat with more than 1 or 2 options is difficult in this area. I got 3 rolls: vegetable, avocado, and veggie tempura. They were all good, but the veggie tempura roll was amazing. The wasabi was spicy and fresh. We were there on a Monday so it wasn't very busy. Our food came out fast, and the service was great. Wasn't expecting much considering the location of Sakura. Nothing against beautiful Chippewa Falls , WI but it's not really the place you'd expect to find a solid, authentic Japanese Restaurant. The Sushi was great, as were the Pot Sticker appetizers and Tempura Veggies. My friends had Seafood Umami and also gave it high marks. My Saki was the bomb and the Fried Cheesecake and Fried Ice Cream made great closers. Service was excellent!! All and all a great experience and reasonably priced. Highly Recommended!! read more

When it comes to Sakura, I feel as if they provide great food at decent prices and with a wide span of Hibachi style eating - the best part is if you're not one for the "show" you just get the table service (for me this is everything as I don;t really like broccoli being thrown at me!) Sushi rolls are rolled well and taste as amazing as they look! Atmosphere is great for a nice date night and it's not very loud which makes being able to chat even better! As a resident of Chippewa Falls, my BF and I were excited to hear about the new Japanese restaurant opening up so close to home. We love sushi and usually have to drive into Eau Claire. We are in no way sushi snobs or food critics, but we just like really good sushi and Japanese. If you do not know already, Sakura is in the old Wendy's restaurant. You can still tell on the outside that it was a Wendy's (continue to have the enter and exit signs and the drive through lines painted in the parking lot), but don't let that discourage your. The inside has been completely redone. It looks upscale (dark tables and chairs, a small bar, a sushi bar, dim lighting, etc.). Liked the tilted water glasses too. We arrived on a Saturday night at 7:30, a week after their grand opening. We were seated right away. We ordered an appetizer, Fried Spider. We received a battered and fried small crab with a sweet chili sauce. Pleasantly surprised to try something new and enjoyed the crab. We then ordered four sushi rolls and received a nice presentation on the plate. The sushi was great too! We really would like to see this place stay open and we are more than happy to visit weekly to get our sushi fix and support a new local business. read more

I love this place. The staff is attentive at all times. Sushi bar is the best seat in the house and the chefs do a fantastic job. Best part is to be interactive with the sushi chefs as the are fun, informative, inventive with offerings and very talented. the place is gorgeous (on the inside). however, they don't have all the raw fish items starred (as they should~ noted on the bottom of the page.) my friend can't have raw fish and we double checked each roll she ordered which the waitress SHOULD HAVE known what each roll contains. the salmon lovers roll DOES NOT have a star by it (meaning it should be cooked). it was all raw salmon on both top and bottom and she threw up viciously as soon as we got outside. that's extremely unprofessional and dangerous. read more

I went here for supper on a Sat night. Nice place. Friendly staff. We sat at the sushi bar. I ordered the Bento box with chicken teriyaki. Everything tasted fresh and delicious. The house salad was small, but the lettuce was very cold and crispy. Edamame, as simple as they are were yummy. I had these at another restaurant in NY and Sakura's tasted better!
