Ok. Chinese food , Americanized Chinese food , is always hit or miss. This place, it lives in the middle. And that is a shame , as it could be so much more. We had take out tonight. First of all know that they don't accept cards. Cash or local check with local ID only. Fine! And as to ordering, do they have a web page? I don't think so, I see Yelp has the menu but no prices. Why are so many Chinese restaurants like this? It's very anti customer . Ok. So the lady( I assume she's an owner) is a brusk as brusk can be, which is pretty common , again , among Chinese restaurants. It's not like people don't have choices, right? I guess they feel they have a captive audience. So, the service is border line rude. So we order and I go pick up, little parking lot on an awkward lot. Masks required, fine. No tables, only take out. We started with egg rolls . Nice size, well cooked, and crispy. But all I could taste was the skin and the cabbage. No pork, no shrimp , no veg. Nada. What a shame. Remove anything that might add interest , I assume , to save money. Why not build it right and offer a killer product at the right price? Ok. So next, my wife had hot n sour soup. She said it was very good. Lots of goodies including imushroom and baby shrimp, which we were kind of surprised at , so wow! That a win. My wonton soup was not a win. The broth was kind of tired and weirdly had broccoli and bamboo shoots. Never seen that before. I bit into the noodle and it was not good. It was soft and mushy and I did not like the taste of the filling whatsoever. It felt old. I actually spit it out. Gross. Sorry! Next we shared what I would call Kung Po chicken. It was a melange of mixed veg , chicken and peanuts . It's my go to , and to be honest, I was underwhelmed. I ate a bit and tossed the rest. What a shame. It all seemed rather perfunctory. Fortune Cookie has been in Eau Claire for many, many years and it is as good now as it was 10 years ago when I was in college. The Aromatic Chicken is BY FAR the best item on the menu. It seems to have changed over time (better pieces of chicken) but is still absolutely delicious. The egg rolls are big and very tasty. The Combination Appetizer Tray actually comes in a bag, but is a nice assortment for under $9. (chicken wings, an egg roll, wontons, crab rangoon, fried shrimp and pork). On this occasion we also ordered hot & sour soup, sesame chicken, & Beef Scallops. Eveything was delivered hot and as ordered within the promised delivery time (40 minutes). In all we ordered 5 items and with delivery charge ($1) and generous tip, we paid $40 Fortune Cookie is open everyday for lunch (with smaller portions served all day) but they close early (9 pm) so plan ahead for dinner-time dining. read more

Let me just say first that their Lo Mein is delicious. The best in town that I've had. I recommend that if you do order from here, you stick with the lo mein, crab rangoon, fried rice and the aromatic chicken (which I've never ordered, but have been told it is their best item). That being said, nothing else there is very good. The Fried Rice is alright, but everything else that I have ordered there has been bad. Not half bad, straight up not appealing. The egg drop soup was gross and sticky and the egg rolls were small and soggy. Delivery has always been fast and friendly, just a little rude on the phone. They usually give me an hour, but every time its arrived in about 30 minutes. What is really nice is that they start deliveries at 11, whereas some other places don't begin until later in the day, well past lunch. Their delivery min. is $10-12 depending on where you live. What really got me was the last time I ordered. I was charged for and requested a family sized veggie lo mein and they sent me a lunch portion. And forgot my side of rice. AND the wontons were cold. The worst Chinese food I've ever had. I ordered the orange chicken, and thinking about it to this day almost makes me vomit. The best way to describe the chicken is gummy and dirty-sponge like. The crab rangoons were obviously frozen, and they did not do a good just reheating them in the microwave. I threw up the rest of the night, and my friends that ordered as well felt nauseous for hours afterwards. As a college student, I don't really have money I can waste on food like this. My freshman year at UWEC, I got chinese delivery from Fortune Cookie. The food was just ok while I was eating it, kinda sub par, but whatever. Later though, the nausea and vomiting came. I had food poisoning for two whole days from Fortune Cookie. I lived in the dorms and had a lofted bed, so I slept on the floor because I was throwing up that often. It was horrible, and when people in the dorms asked where I got the food poisoning from, and I told them, ALL of the upperclassmen in my dorm said "THAT is why you NEVER go to Fortune Cookie." read more

Based on one visit, this carryout place is fine, but nothing spectacular. I would have given it two and a half stars if I could have. It's very standard takeout Chinese with mostly the same menu items you would see anywhere else. I found the Aromatic Chicken a little odd and not really to my tastes. It has a strange almost BBQ flavor. I could see it being a favorite for someone else, though. Egg rolls were boring, filled only with cabbage, it seemed. Crab Rangoon was better, but I couldn't detect any crab, only cream cheese. Mongolian Beef was okay, but bland and had too many onions versus beef. The House Lo Mein was very good, and so is the sweet and sour sauce. Things on the menu that are marked as "spicy" are not spicy in my opinion. Service is fast and friendly. read more

Do not order online delivery. First, after placing a $13.69 order, the restaurant calls me and tells me I haven't met the delivery minimum of $12--even when the website told me the delivery minimum is $10. When the food arrived, the delivery man didn't know the exact total. To quote, "Umm, I'm not sure, 15 something." He took the money and left without a word. Going through our food, we discovered we were missing a pint of white rice. We called to inform them of their mistake and the person on the phone was very short with us, telling us we had only ordered an egg roll and some sesame chicken. We insisted we ordered more than that (I still have the Eat Street order confirmation) so they sent another pint of rice over to us. Upon arrival to our front door, the delivery man OPENED OUR FREAKING DOOR only after knocking once or twice. He handed me the rice after I told him to NOT OPEN OUR FREAKING DOOR and left without a word yet again. Sorry Fortune Cookie, this fortune isn't in your favor. read more

This is the first Chinese take-out we've tried since moving here. First, they don't accept debit cards, which was a hassle. My sweet and sour chicken was so crispy I could barely chew it and the sauce didn't taste like anything. The Crab Ragoons were good though. The price was ok.
