i was visiting my 93 year old father, who recently moved to the Edmonds Landing retirement home. Unfortunately, he had a stroke and has some mobility issues. My lovely brother, Tony bought him an expensive walker. Its a wonderful walker, however designed for a man much larger and more weight than my father. Being a former ergonomic consultant, I could tell that this walker was not suitable for my father. He could care less about my opinion. He just didn't like the expensive walker. I came over to visit him and he requested that I take him here. So we came here, in search of a walker. They are open limited hours, until 3 pm, so my father had not been able to come here before 3 pm. As you walk in, you have a plethora of medical devices available. Wheelchairs, crutches, walkers and every type of medical device one might need. Now the staff is all volunteer. No one is paid to work here. I know in my experience , a walker needs to be individualized. A walker needs to meet the physical requirements of the person using it. Fortunately, we had the services of Mike, a volunteer. He measured every walker and showed the results to my rather stubborn father. There was an excellent walker that met my father's requirements, but he disliked the seat. He would have rarely sat in the seat, but I held my tongue as to my opinion. So, he chose another version. Mike recommend larger rubber tires for my father, as he would use the walker outside. He also adjusted the height of the handlebars, to better suit my father. We spent about two hours, trying out a variety of walkers. My father ended up with a pristine condition walker. Easily collapsible. For 45.00 dollars. Plus, for every purchase you got a variety of personal care items for free. A great experience here. My frugal father was quite pleased with the price he paid. Fortunately, this walker is also collapsable, to reduce space In their tiny retirement home space. Overall, excellent customer service and a great price. They also offer a one week return policy and adjustments, if you are not satisfied. Love the experience here. read more

Found this place through my brother, when my mother passed away we donated her equipment here. About a month or two ago I also donated two scooter batteries here myself. Had mother in laws scooter quit working. Called them on a Wednesday. Very nice girl answered and we spoke. She said yes, bring it in, no problem. I arrived and she again was very nice. She brought out a guy. He also was very nice. Tagged it and gave me a claim ticket. Simply called in on Friday just to check in. Got completely chewed out by a very rude lady. She wanted to know why I would bring in a scooter for repair. We don't do that ! She went on and on and was a real bit** about it. Then a guy got on the phone and was also not very nice, but not as bad as the rude lady. I just went and picked it back up. Hey, I called and asked. I was told to bring it in, why would you talk to me like that two days later ? Simply rude. The first girl and guy very nice on phone and in person. The guy and lady on Friday need new jobs if they hate working there. Just rude. What EXACTLY did I do wrong lady ? In my mind, it's pretty simple, if you didn't want to work on it or if you don't work on them, simply just tell me that when I called on the phone instead of saying, sure no problem bring it in and we'll look at it for you. read more

MSHH Donor Closet - They have both types here... - Community Service/Non-Profit Near Me - Edmonds, Washington

If you're a POC, please be weary and careful going here! My partner and I are POC, and it's very obvious. We are not even close to white passing, we cannot hide our ethnicity. We needed a wheelchair for a very sick family member, and while trying to ask information about how to pick one out, we were severely and very inappropriately INTERROGATED about our citizenship status, among other very personal and private medical information for a good 10 minutes by a Caucasian woman named ELAINE. I was actually in shock about her asking if we were illegal in this country or not. When I told her I was very uncomfortable discussing this, and that she had no business asking any of these disgusting questions, she tried to say she was asking all these invasive questions cause she used to be a nurse for years, and has seen a lot of things. She also bullied and interrogated us as to why our family member didn't have health insurance to cover any of the things we needed. There was a younger girl sitting to her right, maybe early 20's who looked downright horrified, and as we were leaving she rushed up to us, and very loudly apologized for Elaine's rude, racist, & appalling behavior. She also started chastising Elaine as we were walking out. We got the items for free, and were going to return them back to MSHH - as my family member has passed away... But I truly couldn't bring myself to go back there. It feels really gross and slimy to me when I think about going back. I decided to donate to a local medical donation group in my community instead. My friend who recommended MSHH to me as they also have a sick family member - was horrified when I told them about our experience there. If you have to come here, I would avoid Elaine like the plague. I wish I had gotten the younger woman's name. She was so nice and helpful, really sweet, and was so genuine in her apology and embarrassment and anger. If you see this, thank you very much young lady. You have no idea how much I appreciated you speaking up for us. Thanks for being an ally, and calling out inappropriate behavior. Elaine, you need to learn how to speak to humans appropriately, especially POC humans. It's never ever okay to interrogate someone about their medical history/health insurance OR immigration status. It's racist, demeaning, and quite frankly, none of your business. You need some sensitivity training, and a white privilege & allyship class. read more

My 93 year old uncle has a very old wheelchair, which he now needs to use as he fractured his right kneecap. He also needed a leg support to keep his right leg straight. I brought the wheelchair in and they were able to find the leg support and also fixed some loose connections and made the wheelchair 100% better. Only cost $20 for the leg support we really needed - when this wheelchair and his walker are no longer needed, I will definitely donate them here. Highly recommend if you need any sort of support for an older or physically challenged individual. Very impressed! read more

Get the word out to anyone with a need for home medical gear. This stuff is pricey at full retail and might not be covered by insurance. Donors Closet is staffed by volunteers and sells gently used donated home medical (wheelchairs, walkers, shower chairs, etc.) at typically 25% of full retail. Maybe you are no longer in the market as your need has passed, so please consider donating here in lieu of your normal thrift store. It's a great cause! read more

What a great place to donate durable medical equipment & mobility equipment. They refurbish and ask you to give a suggested donation. Much of your donation is returned to the MS community for people in need. They take hospital beds, wheelchairs, transport chairs, walkers, rollators, canes, crutches, etc. Call first to make sure your donation will be accepted. Great organization! read more

Have gone in person, very nice gentleman in a mobility device, and a retired RN (she told us this), Have spoken to other volunteers, all very helpful and friendly. However recently had an off- putting experience on the phone with a person called Sandy, wow- curt and hyper defensive. I was calling about a donation, she rudely interrupted me, questioning what I was asking to donate. All it takes is a, "no thank you"- I could of done without the nasty comment on my offer of a donation. Since you run on donations, Sandy may need to be reminded that you operate on the generosity of others. This place has been an absolute godsend for buying supplies for my dad, but Sandy's attitude and behavior is in my opinion a liability- and from another review, she had behaved like this to others. Great volunteers, minus one, go there if you want really great deals on medical equipment, and personal care products. read more

Friendly staff. First contacted by phone to verify if they had a specific type of rollator. Spoke with Sandy who confirmed yes and placed it on hold for an hour. Item was exactly what was needed. She made the needed adjustments and loaded in the trunk, after payment of course. Great customer service experience. read more

Called just to have a quick chat and make sure MSHH was open today as it had been about 1 month since I initially contacted them to get info about the donation process. Initial contact was very pleasant and helpful. However, today, was 180 degrees different. Sandy (whom I spoke with, this time) was abrasive/ rude when I simply provided the answer that the wheelchair was 2 years old. Weird interaction that seemingly took an odd turn. I started the call off in a friendly tone and did not expect this to be the output, as last time the exchange was great. Perhaps a bad day? I assume folks there are old enough to know some basic manners. Unfortunately, I will not donate to MHSS if they can treat folks like that for something that is being donated to them for a good cause. Hope your day gets better. read more

I've always loved this store. We bought canes and a walker for my mom several years ago. The selection is great, and prices fantastic. Today found me very grateful, humbled and appreciative for their service to our community. I was looking for some personal supplies, as I am having surgery tomorrow. I was dreadfully embarrassed when it came time to pay. I had cleared out my wallet in preparation for the hospital stay tomorrow. I asked the very nice woman if she would hold them, and I would go home and get money. She said to just take them, and wished me luck on my surgery. I needed this kindness today! Well for a "non-profit" this place was almost expensive as buying new as well as the "assistant manager" overcharged me on 3 if the 5 items I purchased & argued with me that they weren't tagged correctly even though the descriptions on the receipt were the more expensive versions. The one item she changed me correctly for was a used toilet booster for $25 dollars (c'mon a used toilet seat) then when I tried to screw it down to make it stable for use the screws were stripped & so it defeats the purpose so I bought a new one in the same style from Amazon for &27! It all came to almost $100 dollars so my advice is go somewhere else- read more

They're a bit disorganized and, yeah, some of the prices are pretty high. So, don't go in expecting to get in and out quickly or to pay the lowest price listed on their website. That said, I got what seems to be a decent power chair from them at a reasonable price with very little hassle. Humanity lives here! Recently visited the Edmonds location hoping to find inexpensive home conditioning equipment. Each one of two volunteers helped me locate two very specific items after I told them what I wanted. You can't beat that for customer service. I felt quite attended to. One star off for too much clutter and useful/useable hidden items buried in piles. I saw equipment that I will recommend to others I know who are in need. I've come here twice now with my grandpa. I cannot stand coming here. The front desk employee (Laurie?) is extremely rude. The way she speaks to my grandpa just infuriates me. He is not a child, he is not senile and should be spoken to with the same respect you would want. He spent about as much money on repairing his scooter here as he would have buying a decent used one and they got his money through guilting him over labor hours spent on repairs. Also know that if you call here you are on speaker and everyone around will hear your personal business. Very unprofessional environment. They won't quote prices over the phone??? What? Why? Is it easier to manipulate people in person? This second visit it seemed an inconvenience for the employee to make him change. Maybe they wanted a full 50$ for a bearing?! Don't let them disrespect you. Don't let them take advantage of you. Just don't come here! read more
