Look at the photos for the condition of a rug they sold. At the Shoreline store, I purchased a rug that was tightly rolled and sealed with tape, so there was no way to inspect it at the store. When I got it home and opened it, it was in unacceptable condition: heavily stained, paint marks, and a strong cigarette odor. This is not an item that should have been on the sales floor. I brought it back within a week with the tag attached and receipt in hand. The manager Leonora did not start by looking at the condition. Instead, she went straight to finding reasons to deny the return. First saying there was no tag (there was), then saying they don't accept returns on "furniture." At no point did she engage with the actual issue. When I tried to show her why I was returning it, another employee inserted herself and escalated the interaction. I did raise my voice out of frustration (my voice carries) but I made no threats and was trying to explain a legitimate issue. Rather than hearing the concern or working toward a solution, the situation escalated quickly. The manager told me to leave or the police would be called for CRIMINALLY TRESSPASSING, and that is exactly what happened. Police were called over a return. I tried to de-escalate and offered reasonable solutions (exchange or completing my purchase), but the manager declined and stayed focused on denying the return and calling the police to have us removed for CRIMINAL TRESSPASSING! Even the responding officer looked at the rug and attempted to find an amicable resolution. My daughter, who was not involved in the interaction, was also threatened with trespass, which was upsetting and unnecessary. This should have been straightforward customer service: 1. The item was not in acceptable condition and the condition was against their own donation policy. 2. It was packaged in a way that prevented inspection 3. A reasonable review could have resolved it Instead, it escalated into a situation involving publicly funded law enforcement over a defective item. As a nonprofit serving the community, I would expect a greater emphasis on resolving issues directly rather than relying on public resources to shut down a legitimate concern. For a place called Bella's Voice, it was surprising how quickly the conversation was shut down. The executive director has chosen to ignore my formal complaint. Tucked on a street off main street, is a converted house, that looks the part, with a sign that welcomes you to "Camp Vintage". At first glance, you might think this is some consignment store of old things, but actually it's a Former Department of Natural Resources passion project, a curated collection of actually vintage things, that you can purchase, bring home, and say, that wasn't a reproduction, that is legit old; and now it's your story. The selection is all things interesting, from old books, to nicknacks, and collectables, you will likely find something that has stood the test of time, and now is your artifact to tell your story. The value here isn't cheap, old things aren't free, and they shouldn't be. Instead, you are going to pay the right price of it. If you like good, old things, things that have meaning, that have love, and isn't mass produced, then this is your place.

I finally got the chance to pop in, and I wasn't disappointed. There were items in a good variety of sizes, the merchandising was great, the pricing was fair with good quality items, and most importantly (in my opinion) it felt good. The store feels peaceful, organized, and relaxed. Browsing was wonderful. This is boutique consignment. If you're interested in ethical fashion, want something a bit different, are frustrated by the low quality clothing churned out these days, want to go green, or just want to save some money, this is a great place to try out! Much of what I saw was unworn or like new. The owner clearly does a great job. My one suggestion would be to separate out the XS sizes from the S sizes. There were tags marking off the various sizes, but it's a bit of work figuring out where XS ends and S begins. I know it sounds ridiculous, but there are plenty of stores these days that don't carry XS, so just seeing the tag would be reassuring that Anchor Chic's got you covered. Probably less feasible would be a petites section, but a girl can dream. I'm so looking forward to going back and bringing some items home!

Since my last review, things at this store have gotten worse. On a lot of levels. There are tons of…read morepeople who full on run, sprint and power walk (which is not walking) upon the doors opening each morning at 9am sharp. The managers say to everyone "please do not run, walk only, be kind to others, blah blah blah" yet the stand there at the door and the registers and let them do what thy just loudly asked them NOT to do. I don't understand how anyone runs in this establishment. There are no emergency situations like earthquakes, power outages or fires that warrant running at any time of being in the store. People are going to get hurt! One of these people is a young college child, his name is John. He runs every day to get to the piles of music cd's on the shelves so he can find the high dollar ones to re-sell on ebay and amazon. He used to be a high school track star and has almost twice fallen down taking a corner too sharp. Yet the managers don't say a word to him to slow down, or kick him out for 5 or 7 days like they do to others in the store who constantly are always pushing, shoving others, or being rude and obnoxious. This young child John, 2 days ago as I went to grab some cd's came right across my whole hand and knocked them out of my hand and tried to pick them up as if to steal them from me! I told him to back off and if he ever touches me again that I would put him on the ground as self defense. He rudely badmouthed me and told me "too bad so sad". The very next day, he did it again but this time he tried to take the 4 cd's I had just grabbed to look at right out of my hands! I bit my tongue, but on my way out I pulled aside one of the managers who I thought would listen and try to do something about. He told me the next day (today) there would be a manager at the front door to confront and talk to him as he entered as well as another manager in the back to make sure he wasn't bothering others. Well neither thing happened and this knucklehead just sprinted in the store again and right by the manager 5 feet from the cd's and she didn't say anything to him or the others who were on a full on running sprint marathon to pick the aisles clean of the new items put out overnight. Korenna and Ingrid are the only female managers at this store. Barry, Nate, Joe and Joel are the male managers. Joe is quite honestly the only one who listens to customer complaints and sticks to what he says. This review along with another letter is going to be written to the LDS Mormon President as well as the Washington State Labor & Industries department.

Immediately what sticks out to me about Deseret is how clean and well kept up it is. Goodwill especially is notorious for this where at many of them it seems like a gust of wind blew through the aisles and things are scattered all over the place and picked over. To be fair certain sections such as the toys and the otherwise 'brick-a-brack' sections do look like this here and other places, but at least it looks like here at Deseret they have people that come and try to neaten it up or zone it. Another thing about Deseret that's unique and I like is with the piles of shirts I'm sure they get, they try to color code them and hang them so if you're looking for that certain color you can simple walk over and sift through shades of yellow or green t-shirts for example as they're hung up and separated from the rest of the assorted t-shirts. The store seems to be decently staffed and seems evident by how clean it generally is here. From what I understand they hire people of less means or recently released offenders for work which is nice. My company actually has one of our clients volunteer here so I appreciate them for that. The one flaw I've found here is the shoe section is not well presented. You have to "eyeball" the shoes for size as there isn't a tag or other easily identifier of size on them. They also seem to pretty much be mixed - womens, mens, baby, child... it could use improvement. I've visited Deseret a few times and although I've yet to score any nice finds here, I do enjoy the ease of browsing here and the prices are surprisingly decent considered the spike in many thrift stores inventory in favor of profits. If you too are a thrifter, stop in for a look.

The Edmonds Waterfront Center (EWC) located at 220 Railroad Ave in Edmonds, Washington, is a true…read moregem in the Puget Sound region. We go to the EWC regularly when we visit Edmonds. It's right on the waterfront, on a pretty stretch of beach where you can see the ferries coming in and out. Formerly the South County Senior Center, then the Edmonds Senior Center, the buildings there were rebuilt into an environmentally-sound, multi-generational and multicultural center with all kinds of classes, programs, clinics, and events. My hubs and I went to the EWC last night to see wildlife photographer and author Paul Bannick speak about his new book on woodpeckers in North America. It was a fascinating talk and slideshow in their big room on the first floor! This is just one example of the great speakers and performers that the EWC hosts all the time. They have rooms with beautiful views of the water that you can rent. Last December, we went to a memorial there for a longtime family friend and it was a great place to honor her and her legacy. When I am retired, or when I can carve out more time in my schedule, I plan on taking advantage of the many classes offered at the EWC. For now, I'll keep going to their terrific events and enjoying the wonderful view.
