Update - I got another birthday cake, but this time customized. Filled out the order form online and was communicating with the bakery quickly. We went back-and-forth between fondant and buttercream and ultimately settled on a custom buttercream design for my son's 8th birthday. Design and payment locked in on Tuesday for a Saturday morning pick-up. Every kid and parent was super impressed with the cake (and several asked us where we go it so, hopefully, this gives them more business)! It looked fantastic and tasted great also. We have now ordered birthday cakes from Mrs. Goodman's on 2 separate occasions, and on both occasions, we loved the cakes we ordered. Mrs. Goodman's does a fantastic job with the cake designs, and they pay great attention to details. It also helps that the cakes are delicious - the chocolate cake is one of the best I have had in Columbus with just the right level of sweetness in the buttercream frosting. The place was moderately busy when we visited, but the staff was very patient and thorough with us while we asked our questions and placed our orders. We tried a few of their cupcakes, scones, cookies, and an apple pie, and one can taste the freshness in all these products. It has been a full week of Mrs Goodman's and they have absolutely knocked every single one of my requests out of the park. From Oscar Party birthday cupcakes, to book and golf themed cupcakes, to St. Patrick's Day cookies, to the absolute icing on the literal and metaphorical cake of my custom made book birthday cake. I gave them a photo I had seen online and they were able to make the cake of her dreams for my friend's birthday. Their attention to detail is unbelievable and their creativity knows no limits. But don't be fooled, all of these items taste as good, if not better, than they look. The cake was light and spongy and delicious with an icing that had the perfect amount of sweetness. Not to mention every person I worked with over the last week has been kind, helpful, and responsive. If you are looking for a bakery in Columbus, look no further. I live in Grove City and my Mother lives near Polaris, so it only makes sense that I stop by one of my favorite bakeries on the way to visit my Momma every.single.time! Every time I stop by I can never make up my mind on what sweets to grab. If you like chocolate and vanilla tuxedo cake's this is your place. I just don't fancy chocolate and vanilla cake's anymore as maybe as I'm starting to (age) my taste buds don't like that much sugar. I liked the decoration of the cake though and the thought behind it. I want to definitely check out some of their other cake options as I'm not a chocolate or vanilla cake lover. I'm more of a fruity cake lover so maybe next time I will see what fruit cakes options are available. An amazing friend brought a dozen of frozen scones from Mrs. Goodman's to our tea party on Saturday, and I went back on Tuesday (only because Sundays and Mondays are their personal days) to get more scones. Are they that good, you asked? Yes... yes my friend, they are addictive. I had their cream (BEST with clotted cream and marmalade), blueberry, cherry almond, chocolate chip and went back for apricot. That apricot one was so... oh so... very very good! I was hoping for peaches and cream, but they are not available since... well it's Fall. But will I be zipping to Mrs. Goodman's when Summer come? You bet these sweet scones I will. I bought these scones frozen so I can enjoy them warm and (bonus) perfumed my place with fresh baked scones aroma. Another bonus? I can store them (was told to transfer them to a plastic bag) in the freezer and pull them out any time for... you guessed it, FRESH scones everytime! Mrs Goodman's Baking Co had a Grand Re-Opening today. They were handing out samples of their product, Crimson Cup was there giving out hot cups of delicious coffee. There was a line out the door as we waited to get to the counter to make our selection and purchase some fantastic treats. We purchased a cinnamon roll with icing and a pecan roll. Of the samples we tried a plain scone, blueberry scone and a cinnamon scone. We also tried pumpkin pie, apple pie, chocolate chip cookie, and a peanut butter dark chocolate cookie. They were giving out raffle tickets with every $5 purchase. There were about a dozen gift bags to choose from. The staff was very friendly, and helpful. Had a hankering for Mrs Goodman's. Stopped in and got my usual cookies which everyone knows are the bomb. I also decided to get a Pecan Roll which I had wanted to try forever. Exemplary customer service! I ordered an apple crumb pie to be ready for my birthday and on the morning of pickup there was a mistake in the kitchen and the wrong pie was made. Accidents happen. Not only did they gift me the wrong pie but immediately made the correct pie and even hand delivered it to my home a few short hours later - a 30+ minute drive away mind you! Pie still warm from the oven! Both pies smelled immaculate and filled my kitchen with mouth watering aromas. They taste even better than they smell. I have had the Oatmeal Chocolate Chip cookie at sandwich shop chain Potbelly, but this cookie was made from the heart. Mrs Goodmans is a bakery in Worthington that has been around since the 80's and the newest owner is only the third to own this bakery. But no fear that there is a new owner because they kept all recipes the same so it still has the same perfect taste you envision. In a newly remodeled space they offer a wide variety of scones, brownies, cakes, cupcakes, cookies, pies and every sweet your heart desires. In addition to the regular menu, Saturday's are guinea pig days where they test out new items and new ingredients. My favorite item on the menu is anything that has buttercream. Their buttercream is to-die-for! It's also what they are best known for and the homemade taste really shines through. Their cakes have no shortage of buttercream on them (the slice of cake I had, had over a inch of buttercream - pure heaven). They have over 13 varieties of cookies and even though I was tempted by a chocolate chip, I decided on a shortbread cookie with butter cream on top and I've already decided I'm going back for more of those ASAP! Also excited to try the brown sugar walnut and the chocolate peanut butter chip. Their pie crusts are made from scratch (even though when you look at them you'd think otherwise, they look THAT perfect)! They have 12 varieties of scones (each day 6 are available) and I want to head back on a Saturday morning to try the sticky buns and cinnamon rolls because they looked incredible.
