Being from CA and now in the Midwest I thought I would never get a taste of the same cake around here ever again. I'm so happy to have stumbled across this sweet bakery. The baker is so sweet, kind and very informative. I assume she's also the owner. She's half Chinese and it explains why the treats are very 90-00s Chinese bakery. The strawberry cream cake is so good, soft, fluffy, and not too sweet (as everything else I bought). Paris baguette and Belle isnt your only Asian bakery in town! Golden Delight hits the spot. Prices are very reasonable too! I bought: cream strawberry cake, two cupcakes of chocolate and mocha (?), a pork bao, and butter cookies that didn't last my ride home. All around $16, not bad! Suppprt your local mom pop shop! (Not everything photographed bc it's in my belly).

Let's be upfront: I didn't actually taste this cake. I'm not a dessert person, and I am especially…read moreopposed to fruit on cake--no exceptions (that's another story for another day). I picked up two slices--the Fresh Strawberry (an established favorite) and Mocha (a wildcard)--strictly as a treat for someone who genuinely enjoys cake that doesn't come out of a grocery store freezer. Here's the verdict from the real taste tester: Sweetness: Light and subtle. No sugary slap in the face--just a clean, gentle sweetness that let the whipped icing shine. Flavor: Fresh and balanced, especially the strawberry slice. The fruit tasted like actual berries, not the syrupy globs you find wedged between supermarket sheet cake layers. Texture: Soft, pillowy, and almost weightless. If you've ever had those dense grocery store birthday cakes that taste like sugar-soaked sponge, this is the opposite. Every bite melted down smooth, with the whipped icing adding a cool, creamy finish. Overall Rating: 4.5/5 (They would've liked a touch more sweetness, but it was nearly perfect.) Would They Get It Again? Absolutely. Direct quote: "This makes me believe you can eat cake and not feel like you'll need a cavity filled the next day." Extra Details: * Passed the scent test--light vanilla and fresh cream. * A little happy dance happened in the passenger seat. * Keith Sweat's Right and a Wrong Way was playing, which felt appropriate. Shoutout to Jack: Jack, who helped me with my order, was kind, patient, and respectfully inquisitive. He suggested the mocha vs. chocolate choice without any forced small talk (the worst) and somehow made it feel like chatting with an old friend. Slice Showdown: Both slices were cloud-soft, but the strawberry was the clear winner for freshness and bright, not-too-sweet flavor. The mocha was mellow, more like a classic vanilla cake with a hint of coffee. If you're into cakes that are light, barely sweet, and so fluffy they practically fold under your fork, Golden Delight might be your next move.

My standard for cupcakes are different than the general masses as I feel like the ENTIRE cupcake should be a complete entity taste wise and one component shouldn't outshine the other. After looking thru her website, she had some unique flavors for her spring 2021 Seasonal Flavors. I'm always a huge fan of any local business who's mission is the source locally as much as possible to support small businesses. And, besides, who doesn't want to try a Japanese-inspired cake from a independent baker who's name translates to Black Cat!! I ordered one of Kuro Nero's seasonal special cakes - 8" Matcha & Azuki - to try, with a Saturday pick-up at her home bakery. S/O to the fantastic smooth-as-butta icing design! The simple yet elegant decorations topping the cake were perfect. The matcha cake was simply scrumptious! The batter portion is soft and fluffy, not dense, and subtly sweet, not overwhelming with fake, cheap sugar. The middle section is azuki - a sweet red bean filling. The Deborah's matcha buttercream icing is pillowy soft. I do not like dense icing, and thick levels of it is a personal turnoff. I loved the matcha buttercream consistency of this icing: Lite on the tongue, a perfect complement to my decadent dessert! I'm assuming Kuro Neko's business is a large portion of wedding and special event cakes, as her photo gallery of past cakes on her website is quite appeasing to the tastebuds. After seeing, and tasting, my cake, I'll definitely order from Kuro Neko when I get a sweet craving for a unique cake option!!

We were looking for a unique cake in terms of flavor and design. In Persian culture, rose water is used frequently in pastries and cakes and, we wanted the cake design to reflect elements of a traditional Persian love cake with pistachios and rose petals. The cake is also important for the cake cutting ceremony (aka the knife dance). When we found Kuro Neko, we were so excited about the strawberry rose flavor and the gorgeous design of cakes. Deborah is the sweetest human and was so flexible with us and incredibly creative. She sent a sketch of the cake, and when we fell in love with it we even decided to add another tier. Deborah is insanely talented and our guests were in awe of the beautiful cake she designed and gave high compliments on how delicious it was.
