Salmon Bento Box
Andrew L.

Good no-nonsense local restaurant for Japanese food. Went on a late Saturday afternoon when the restaurant was relatively quiet. It was great that their lunch specials include the weekend. We had the Salmon Bento Box and the Shrimp Bento Box specials - both were very good.

Lots of items, crab meat croquet, spicy salmon hand roll, ocean roll, Crab Lover 's, Knicks roll.

I have been coming here for almost 20 years. The sushi is always fresh and delicious. One of my favorite menu items is the crib meat croquet. The staff is always attentive and helpful. The inside is small but well spaced. I am sure I will be coming back for years.

My first time here was great. The fish is fresh and our server was very friendly and accommodating. My friend ordered the Salmon bento box and It was overflowing food. We had saki and beer and this was all at great affordable lunch prices! I will return for more very soon!

Fresh food, tiny place, good service. Decedent selection. The gyoza was beef not pork but was good. Shrimp tempura rolls fine too

We'd passed Mr Wasabi many times going to the many restaurants along this stretch of Bell Blvd. It wasn't until we had a bad experience at a sushi place up the street that we decided to try them out. I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised. The name is appropriate because their wasabi seems to burn hotter than others all the way up your nose! Our little family of three were greeted warmly and seated quickly with menus. The variety of maki rolls and nigiri were complemented by many kitchen cooked dishes. Many of the rolls had some colorful names, obviously named by a sports fan after all the NY/NJ area pro teams. We ordered the Knicks and the Mets rolls and lucky they taste better than how their namesake teams are performing :( The server brought a flaming aluminum foil wrapped roll to the next table and I had to ask what it was. They said it was the Playboy roll and I've got to try that next time, just for the Yelp video. Our orders were really mundane after that circus show, but don't get me wrong, everything was well made, presented and very tasty. My son wasn't very hungry and got the Donburi, a hot chicken omelet over rice for when you're feeling breakfasty. My wife ordered the Sashimi Regular and received very fresh cuts of fish. I wasn't feeling that raw, so I got a Bento Box. It had seaweed salad, mixed tempura, California roll, 3 pc nigiri and Chicken Teriyaki over Rice (though you can opt for beef or salmon) and came with salad and miso soup. The very nice lady serving us also brought a bowl of edamame on the house!

We came in here on timing that was late for lunch but early for dinner. We ended up eating snacks. I had pork bun and my girls had their ramen. I could tell by the business name that their specialty are sushi . Will definitely come back for it. In terms of my pork bun, unexpectedly good. I enjoyed it. It could have been one of their best selling appetizers. The ramen was alright but not the best we have tried. It was empty when we walked in. It did not affect my review of the place. Thinking that their take outs sell more. The staff is nice. Location is on Bell blvd strip area that is closer to northern blvd.

My husband and I have been coming to this place for years. By far some of the best sushi we've ever had which is why we keep coming back. Everyone working here is so very welcoming and service is exceptional. The sushi is always fresh, tasty, and good quality. A great variety of rolls. The crab croquettes are delicious and we must have them every time. Very cozy, comfortable feel to the restaurant. We love everything we have tried here and will keep coming back.

Mr. Wasabi is a Japanese sushi restaurant in Bayside, Queens. The sushi rolls were presented nicely in the tray, however, the special rolls are not that special. They are the same size as the regular rolls with fish and roe on top. It's below expectations from your regular specialty rolls.

Beef bento box

Tried the classics like beef bento box , udon, and some sushi rolls. Food could have tasted better , it didn't taste bad by any means but the sushi tasted kinda stale in my opinion. I wished they put more rice in the bento box too.

This was my birthday treat in June. Quarantine and eat like a queen

For me, it was decent, but nothing I'd go crazy over. I will say, though, the tacos are very small, so keep that in mind. The real standout for me was the salmon fried rice. That was really good, and honestly, that's the main reason I would go back to Nami Sushi. I also tried the California rolls, which were good but nothing particularly different or out of the ordinary. The kani salad, unfortunately, wasn't my favorite. I usually expect yum-yum sauce to already be mixed into kani salad, but it wasn't, so I ended up adding some sauce I had at home, which definitely made it better for me. The service was good. The young lady who helped me was very nice and pleasant. The restaurant itself was very clean. It's a small space with a long, narrow kind of layout, but it still works for what it is. I'd come back for the salmon fried rice, and I'd probably try a few other things on the menu.

Menu is very limited with the protein options though with a few choices of noodles (spicy, ramen, or soup versions). They also carry poke bowls which I have yet to try. I did enjoy my beef over rice very much. Thin slices of beef, super tender and delicious. The sauce was on the sweeter side which was drizzled onto the beef as an au jus. And it came with half an egg, pickled radishes and broccoli. Another dish I enjoyed was the fish and cabbage hot pot. That was served with a bowl of rice. No noodles. Even with the spice level at "one pepper" rating, it was too much of a kick for me. But those that like spicy will enjoy it just fine. The fish pieces it came with were generous sized portions and this bowl was loaded with vegetables. Wood ear, mushrooms, cabbage, sliced white radish, and bean curd skin. It also has a few slices of spam (which I did order extra so I'm not sure if the normal is two slices). We also tried the pan fried pork gyoza which was perfectly fried on each side. Nice color. Taiwanese pork as a side comes with one pc per order. The fried chicken appetizer could use a little more spices but the chicken was so tender and very juicy. I liked it a lot. It does come with a dipping sauce which helps but I didn't use it much. All in all a good spot for take out but the menu will need to be expanded in order to have longevity. Sadly it didn't look busy each time I came to pick up. Staff is attentive and friendly.

Finally revisited Mizumi on Northern Blvd after many years, hoping to satisfy our sushi cravings…read more Instead, about an hour later, I was satisfying my bathroom's occupancy requirements... Let me backtrack. My wife and I arrived exactly at 12:06 PM on a weekday. The staff greeted us warmly, the place was clean and organized just like I remembered, and yes, they have high chairs for the little ones. Unfortunately, the food was a different story. Usually with AYCE, there's at least one or two dishes that make you think, "Yep, I'm going back for this." Here, nothing really stood out as delicious. They have some interesting creations, including sushi made with pesto rice, and many rolls have a Western-fusion twist. Creative? Definitely. Delicious? Not quite there for me. The hot food was okay, although some of the fried items were aggressively salty. I thought, "Let me cleanse my palate with some warm miso soup." NOPE. That was salty too. The bulgogi and kalbi were also noticeably on the sweeter side. The Korean-style wings had soggy skin. Then came the raw oyster. It did not taste fresh at all. I took half a bite, swallowed some, and immediately knew something was wrong. I had to spit out the rest. The unfreshness hit me faster than a New Yorker rushing for the subway. I spent the next hour praying I wouldn't get KO'd in the bathroom. Unfortunately, prayer was not answered. And this was my first meal of the day, so I'm pretty confident it wasn't anything else I ate beforehand. We tried to end lunch on a sweet note with the strawberry ice cream. Sadly, it tasted very artificial. At this point, I was just looking for something, ANYTHING, to redeem the meal. And the winner of the day was... The GREEN TEA in a tea bag. Seriously. That was the thing I genuinely enjoyed the most. I really wanted to love this revisit, but between the underwhelming food and the oyster experience that sent me on an unexpected bathroom adventure, I'm giving Mizumi 2 stars. Maybe it was just an off day, but I'm not sure my stomach is brave enough for a sequel.

The complimentary bread was served with a very creative trio of spreads: butter, a sweet plum sauce, and a sweet vinegar reduction. It was an unexpected and delicious start to the meal. The sushi rolls were the highlight. The fish tasted great, the avocado was generous, and the ingredients were well balanced. We also really enjoyed the Mito Ribs, Tuna Tartare, Black Sea Bass, Teriyaki Chicken, Mito Fried Rice, and Cobb Salad. The ribs were rich and flavorful, while the tuna tartare was refreshing and beautifully presented. The sea bass had nicely crisped skin with thick, tender meat. Overall, Mito offered a lovely atmosphere, attractive presentation, and a wide variety of enjoyable dishes. It was a great choice for our birthday celebration, and I would gladly return for the sushi and several of their signature dishes.

Bay Terrace was under construction, traffic was a mess, and after circling around twice for about 20 minutes, we finally had to call the restaurant to figure out where the entrance and parking area were. Our host/server was polite, friendly, and professional. I didn't necessarily feel much warmth from him, but he did his job well, so no complaints there. We came for Restaurant Week, and they had a pretty extensive menu for $25 per person, which is a great deal. Unfortunately, while most of the food was well cooked, I felt like many of the issues came down to questionable decisions made by the kitchen rather than the ingredients or execution itself. The most obvious example was the chocolate lava cake. It was clearly overcooked, so instead of making a new one, they flipped it upside down and served it that way. I'm guessing they thought no one would notice, but it was pretty obvious. Why not just remake it? The ribs were another questionable decision. The menu listed a "half rack," but when it came out, there were only two ribs. We asked our server about it, and he checked with the kitchen, who explained that their full rack is normally four pieces. If I ordered a full rack from the regular dinner menu and four ribs showed up, I'd be pretty upset. My sister decided not to keep the "half rack" and opted for the grilled octopus instead after seeing it come out looking so good. Unfortunately, since it was added later, it seemed like the kitchen rushed it out, and the octopus didn't have much of a char. The grilled black sea bass was actually one of the better dishes. It was perfectly cooked with beautifully crispy skin. The only disappointment was the sauce. The tomato tartare sauce served with the black sea bass tasted almost exactly like the romesco sauce that came with the grilled octopus. With such an extensive menu, I found it odd that the two sauces tasted so similar. It made the dishes feel a little repetitive. My sister's Scottish salmon was also pretty good. The cauliflower sauce arrived cold, and when we asked about it, our server told us it was supposed to be served at room temperature. It clearly wasn't, but the sauce was delicious, so we let it go. The bigger issue was that the kitchen poured it directly over the crispy salmon skin, turning what should have been a nice crispy skin into something soggy. Again, a questionable decision that took away from an otherwise good dish. I ordered the wild mushroom tagliatelle, and honestly, I don't know what came over me ordering pasta at a Japanese restaurant. The menu says the pasta is homemade, so I was hoping to be pleasantly surprised, but to me, it didn't taste like fresh homemade pasta. That said, I should have asked about it before ordering, so that part is on me. The bigger issue was that the dish itself was just OK. Nothing particularly memorable, and the portion was surprisingly small considering it was one of the cheaper lunch options. I finished with the crème brûlée, which was perfectly fine. It's hard to go too wrong with crème brûlée, but then they added a little whipped cream and one frozen blueberry on top. I'm still confused by the blueberry. If you don't have fresh blueberries, just leave it off. Yet another unnecessary kitchen decision. Overall, the meal wasn't bad, and there were definitely some good dishes. The service was pretty good, the Restaurant Week price is a great value, and the space is beautiful. My biggest issue was that so many of the little things seemed to come down to questionable decisions made by the kitchen. Overcooking the lava cake and flipping it over instead of remaking it, putting sauce over crispy salmon skin, rushing the octopus, using sauces that tasted nearly identical on different dishes, and adding a frozen blueberry to the crème brûlée all felt unnecessary. None of these things individually would ruin a meal, but when you start adding them up, they become noticeable. I'd give them another chance because the meal wasn't bad and there is definitely potential, but I'd hope the kitchen pays a little more attention to the details next time.
