You can easily spend hundreds of dollars for sush at Unamii that you can get l better value at midtown NYC or other LI spots. As much as I prefer to support local businesses, I don't believe this is worth it. In fairness, the ambiance and decor inside restaurant look lovely.

There is a parking lot, but I had to wait for a car to leave to get a spot. I had made a reservation for 6 people at 7:00pm earlier in the week. My friends were running late, but I was seated in the meantime. Umami Sushi and Grill is modern, stylish, and spacious. We were seated in a private nook like an open bird cage and it allowed for a private and intimate dining experience. It was all of ours first time here and can't wait to go back. We started with the Mushroom Salad and Rock Shrimp Tempura Bites for appetizers. The mushroom salad had sautéed seasonal mushrooms with yuzu dressing. The rock shrimp was battered and lightly fried served with yuzu creamy spicy aioli sauce. The mushroom salad was refreshing and the rock shrimp flavor was great. We also ordered a bottle of Mio sparkling sake. I've always enjoyed this sake so I had to order it when I saw it on the menu. It is light, fruity, and slightly sweet. I ordered the Shaggy Dog Roll which had shrimp tempura inside, topped with crab meat, crunch, spicy mayo, and eel sauce. Very yummy and savored every bite. For dessert, I had the matcha cheesecake and I enjoyed it very much. The matcha cheesecake was packed with matcha flavor and it was creamy and luscious. The portion was smaller than the fried cheesecake and the fried ice cream that my friends got, but that was totally okay since the matcha cheesecake was so rich. Umami Sushi and Grill was the perfect place for my friends and I to catch up. Service was wonderful and we stayed at the restaurant for about 3 hours. The staff were attentive and still filled our water/hot tea. Definitely worth checking out.

This feels more like a 4 1/2-star experience…read more We had a lovely dinner at Kissaki this evening. We started with an espresso martini, which was excellent--smooth, well-balanced, and a great way to kick off the meal. My husband and I each took a few sips before I remembered to snap a photo--always a good sign. For appetizers, the wasabi rock shrimp and spicy tuna crispy rice were both standouts--fresh, flavorful, and nicely executed with great texture. We also ordered the 10 piece nigiri flight, which was consistently impressive. The fish tasted fresh across the board, with the uni being a highlight--rich, creamy, and exceptionally fresh. The shrimp tempura roll was delicious--crispy and well-balanced. The only dish that didn't quite land for us was the ebi hamachi futomaki. It wasn't bad, just not a favorite for my husband--I only remembered to take a photo when we were nearly finished. From the kitchen, we shared the black cod and sea bass--both outstanding. Tender, flavorful, and perfectly cooked--definite highlights of the meal. For dessert, we shared the peach cobbler, which was a great finish. Warm peaches with hints of bourbon and cinnamon, paired with Japanese vanilla ice cream--comforting and well-balanced. Service was warm throughout, and the quality of the food was evident in nearly every dish. While it leans toward the higher end in price, the overall experience fell just shy of a full five stars--but was nevertheless very enjoyable.

The Sea Bass is outstanding and is a must try; flavorful (no strong fishy smell/taste), super soft and tender, like cutting warm butter with a fork. Another must is the Matcha Tiramisu, outstanding and unique! I am not a matcha lover and this was one of the best deserts I've had! The lights are dim, there's live music certain nights, comfy intimate seating and a modern flair. Service was excellent, the waitress was extremely helpful and patient with us. Parking is limited and a task in itself, so plan accordingly.

4.25 Let me start by…read moresaying that I am not a big seafood person, nor am I particularly fond of sushi. I enjoy salmon, tuna, fluke, and yellowtail, but beyond those basics, I'm completely lost. My wife and her sister were in the mood for Japanese food, and this is a place they have visited several times, so I tagged along. If you're familiar with this part of Northern Boulevard, you know how many restaurants there are and how annoying it can be to find parking. When you enter, several people greet you. The place is wide open and clean, with a small bar up front and the sushi station towards the back. The three of us opted for the Omakase, which includes 16 pieces. Overall, it was pretty good. Were there a few items I could have done without? Of course, especially since I'm not a seafood fan. Let's start with the things I did enjoy: Sapporo beer (haha), monkfish liver (surprisingly), sea bream, seared scallop, hamachi, salmon, tuna, and my dessert, the seared wagyu beef. My least favorite item was the sea snail--I must have been chewing that for at least five minutes. The other items I didn't mention were decent. Overall, it was a good meal. Why am I giving it a 4.25? It's pricey ($138 per person for the Omakase), so if you're coming here for that, be prepared to spend some money.

The portion size is pretty big, so we were pretty full for 4 people. Whenever we order from here whether it was dining in or delivery/take out, the fish is very fresh. I forgot to tell them I didn't like spicy, but they didn't give us any special rolls with spicy in them so that worked out really well. The space might not be very big, but it's decent food and intimate setting.

Tara Japanese Cuisine - We picked small Kamasu for the sushi cuisine, this fish can reach 5 feel length. But for sushi, we use small kamasu like less than 1lbs.

It's been a while since I've returned so when I was given a choice, this was and still is, my go to place when I'm nearby. This visit - lots of sushi on my mind. I ordered the chirashi bowl as my entree and a la carte, sea urchin sushi. Today the Hokaiddo uni was available so I splurged and got it. The California uni was available too but given the option, Hokaiddo is the way to go! The Chirashi is a beautiful bowl of fresh sushi - given my allergy to shrimp, I asked for a substitute piece of fish. They accommodated without an issue. The tuna, salmon, and mackerel was outstanding - so fresh! The octopus, yellowtail and tamago were perfect. I enjoyed this very much... Couldn't finish the rice. The bowl is a great deal and value. For starters, my friend and I enjoyed the lightly fried soft shell crab. It was simply divine - great crunch and a soft shell indeed. The optional scallion and dipping sauce isn't really needed but available. So good! It was super fresh. My friend ordered the Black Cod Bento box. Rice bowl comes on the side. These bento boxes are the best deal: comes with gyoza, fried tofu, edamame seaweed salad, wasabi salt, cucumber salad, both shrimp and vegetable tempura (even eggplant!) and the cod was sitting on top of some sauteed string beans. Both of our dinners came with a choice of house salad or miso soup. I recommended the salad because the dressing is fantastic here - citrusy and light ginger I think, with a bright orange color appeal. The complimentary noodles as a palate starter was also fantastic. There is a parking lot in the rear but I've often found spots easily on the street (metered parking but free after 7pm on the weekdays).
