First? You had me at mole... but the warm soft tamale smothered in it was definitely elevated. Next? I am gluttonous and had a full hour to kill so I followed it with chips and refried beans. Note: this is more food for four bucks than anyone has any right to expect. I'm still trying to finish it. Last? Small booths and genuinely good music make the atmosphere here unexpectedly intimate. Charming! Quick nod to excellent service. Easy five stars. David had fries. He was happy too. read more

Super cute little taco spot located on Route 66, just East side of street on Austin Boulevard, North Side of Ogden Ave. I-55 or 290 reachable. Bus stops right outside; close to door. This taco spot is family owned and in business many years. They have a special $3 tacos on Tuesday's . Otherwise I grabbed 3 steak tacos & Carrot Jalapeño pack for $15. Large portion. Modern signs, they accept card or cash. Open til 11 week days and 3 am Friday & Saturdays. Located in a busy area, with many late night gas stations nearby. Drove past the Goodwin School North of here, very nice - clean, nice kids jungle gym. read more

Pretty good at 20 years not visiting here nothing changed only there hours of operation used to be open till like 4 AM now 11 PM which is not bad. Nevertheless, the food is still good at the best tackles in town, but they are very delicious. Everything is made fresh upon ordering. Just look at my granddaughter's tongue sticking out that says it all. read more

legendary food I love a #11 or there chicken tacos. best rice I've ever had! thanks MT

been eating here for over 30 years. The prices have been creeping up and I understand that. However today picked up 6 steak quesadillas on flour. They charged me 50 cents extra to switch to flour tacos. That is just plain ridiculous and honestly just plain price gouging. read more

The legendary. The venerable THE Mr. taco. So many are put off by this little shack on the side of the road in an industrial park off Ogden. It ain't pretty. It ain't the cleanest. And it sure isn't healthy. But these are some of the best mexican foods money can buy. Get the number 11. I don't care if it's more expensive now, get the number 11. The perfection of the greasy cheese and excessive meat dripping on the mole rice as you eat this monstrosity is an experience in itself. If you can't like this or find it repulsive, I truly don't understand you, and I doubt we could truly be friends. Oh the chicken tacos are great too. Don't get the burrito. read more

Been eating here since 1979. Get the steak quesadillas or the steak burrito with chihuahua cheese. No one does it like them. I have been to a million other Mexican fast food places and no one understands how to grill the cheese at all. I have to try and explain "do it like Mr Taco"!! An awesome late night spot for food, but just as great for lunch at noon. Put them on your list. read more

Don't let the gruff exterior fool you, this place is a no frills, above average quality Mexican restaurant. Tacos, burritos and more. Family owned for 44 years. It's been a few years since I've last been here and it's really gone downhill. Tacos are flavourless and greasy. But I will give this place credit for ambience. It has an end or the world vibe to it. And great late night hours. read more

I was in my teens "Mr. T" was the first place that I heard of or eaten a quesadilla. Up until my intro to Mr. Taco the only Mexican food I ate was at a famous fast food chain. The #9 quesadilla plate at Mr. Taco was a life changing experience! Corn tortilla, Chihuahua cheese, shredded lettuce, fresh onion, fresh tomato and a drizzle of crema! But, the secret sauce to the Mr. Taco quesadilla experience is that the cheese is caramelized!!! If you like your cheese more caramelized (darker) ask them and they will keep it on the flattop longer. Nobody, makes a quesadilla this magical way. When I got started going to other Mexican restaurants I was served the uninspired melted cheese between flour tortilla version. I would try to explain the caramelized cheese version countless times, but all I'd get is a shrug and a confused look. I stopped asking because I realized it's pointless. So to avoid disappointment I only order quesadillas at Mr.Taco. So people be adventurous and get past any hesitation about going to this hole in the wall quesadilla shrine and belly up to the register counter and order a #9 (cheese) or #11 (steak and cheese), guaranteed you'll have a paradigm shift in your quesadilla game, oh yeah!!! read more

Amazing food with good customer service served quickly not a long wait. A good go to when ur craving some good Mexican food

Called to place a pick up order. I was trying to tell the employee my order but he jsut kept saying "okay, yes, and yes" which made me think he wasn't understanding the order. I asked him to repeat my order and he said 'Burrito". I repeated my order again and he hung up. I called again, he hung up again. I called several more times around this same time and there was no answer. eventually, the line became busy which just means, he kept the line open so no one could call. So yea, this employee was awful. read more

Worst tacos I have ever head!!! What a shame a place like this in Chicago!!! Never ever,,, EVER coming back! Was not good does not even begin to describe it!!!! I always ask if it's arrachera or if it's "taco meat". The girl said they are arrachera, I said ok kool. I get them and I was like wtf is this. But I still wanted to run them and see, bad idea... taco fell apart, the tortillas smelled terrible (cheap tortillas). I asked the cook if he gave me the wrong tacos, he said no, they are carne asada. I said yes they are but not arrachera. I left the soggy, tortilla smelly, nasty meat tacos on their table and left!!! Never again. It's one of those things where you say, stick to what you know. read more

Heading westbound down Ogden Ave from the south loop is the way to go. Then once you reach Austin Ave you can't help but notice a little corner taco joint. So rather than test my patience in rush hour, I will treat myself to a taco dinner. 3 Beef Taco Dinner with Rice and Beans was plenty filling. Made fresh right in front of me. Staff was super friendly and checked on me to make sure everything was to my liking. They use double tortillas so no messy accidents. The rice was spot on good which is always one of the hardest food items in my experience to get right. Love the horchata and carrots!! Prices were fair and I plan on ordering a burrito next time. read more

Yay for late night Mexican food! Boo that it's always in a bad neighborhood! I like Mr. Taco, mostly cause it's open really late. I have no idea how late, but I've never arrived to find it closed. I've been coming here since I was a teenager when I used to hang out around the Berwyn/Cicero area Whenever I'm going to meet up with any of my friends out that way I always stop here. It's nothing to look at from the outside, or the inside, really... lol but who cares about that anyways? That's not why you come to a place like Mr. Taco... The owner was almost always working the register there, (nice hard working guy) and the cooks there are friendly and just overall friendly people. It's the little family owned place you can't really help but want to eat at.q read more

The quesadillas are where it's at, my friend. I went on a recommendation from the bartender over at Cigars and Stripes and boy was he right! I just about died and went to heaven as I bit into my cheesy quesadilla. Defo 5 stars on those bad boys and the super quick service. I've had 3 dreams about 'em since I ate them last week. The veggie tacos I ordered were just okay... and this is when I was kind of buzzed so I could imagine they would prob be even less glamorous sober but that's okay my friends. You know why? Because you forget the tacos and go for the quesadillas... you won't regret it. read more

This place is disgusting, idk y so many fools luv it. Last resort, only if I was dying of hunger. Even then, there's so many mex spots in this area, idk why ppl settle for it. Y do I hate it? How disappointing this place was after hearing so many good things about it from so many people at work. I made a late night taco run here on a Sunday around 2:30 am. When I got there I was pleased to find the place packed. How can all of these people be wrong? I grabbed the last spot in the small lot. I went in and the place was packed. It looks as if the place was packed for the last several hours as the place was completely trashed. At this point I was a bit taken back by the condition of the place. I figured that well if they have been this busy, then the clean up might have been a bit delayed tonight. The guy behind the counter was really friendly and they had our order done quickly for the place being so packed. When i got back to work, I could not have been more disappointed. The steak was very dry and the onions and cilantro were both soggy and tasteless. There was nothing redeeming about these tacos at all. I am willing to give this place the benefit of the doubt and possibly give it another shot down the road. Every place is entitled to an off night and it looks like I ordered here on one of their off nights. read more

Mr. Taco, located on Historic Route 66, isn't a place that I would recommend to anyone with a weak stomach. While I have many a friend that would swear by the food at Mr. Taco, most of them have been only after a really hard night of intoxication and are inebriated to the gills. Alot of truckers also frequent this joint, and you know they're carrying some form of indigestion relief. I have to say, I've only been there once, and while waiting in line, I saw a roach crawling on the wall. While this doesn't seem to disturb the majority of Mr. Taco's repeating clientele, it's not a place that I would bring my friends or family to...maybe someone I didn't like so much, but I wouldn't eat. But hey, if you aren't too picky and you're looking for food, they're open 24/7. The one good thing I'll say about Mr. Taco is that I haven't heard of anyone dying from their food. read more

I came here with two of my friends after a long afternoon of mushy mayhem (officially called the Tomato Battle: Chicago). Still somewhat drippy with tomato bits in odd places and wearing potentially questionable post-battle attire, we placed our orders and sat. We were nibbling on the house mix of carrots, jalapenos and garlic bulbs when our orders came up. Maybe I was starving but my tacos al pastor were phenomenal. The carne asada was also very good. My friend who has been going here forever asked me to try a bit of her quesadilla and it was delicious, with a little cheese crusted to perfection around the edges. This place is a definite dive but you know what? We fit right in and no one judged despite how ragged we might have looked. I don't know how I've missed this place before, but thanks to my friends I'm definitely coming back. read more

If you're looking for ambiance, this is not the place. Some might describe it as a small hole in the wall. The owner is usually there, he seems tired, but he's good at getting you in and out, with a satisfied tummy. But the food: the main reason you're coming here, is DELICIOUS! I've had several dishes and they have all been good (except the ground beef, meh). Best would be the steak quesadillas #11 plate. Seriously won't leave you hungry. Filling and absolutely flavorful. Also, anything with their chicken. It's cooked to perfection and has a yummy flavor in its juice/sauce. Tostadas, burritos, tacos... Everything here is great. Again, this isn't the place to go and bring your entire family out to eat, if you're looking for that, go elsewhere or order to go. But to stop in for a bite to eat, it's perfect. I would definitely recommend trying it at least once! read more
