Omg yummy .... I stopped by there Sunday a few minutes before they close and I ordered a dozen chicken tamales.... All I got to say is .. They were like Frito-Lay's you just can't have one... I took a picture of the tamale bursting with chicken So moist just enough heat. I've reviewed a few tamale places but this one was over the top.. I did find a bone... Certainly seems like there's a lot of these surprisingly good little Mexican restaurants around this area. It doesn't look like anything special from the outside, and the inside isn't anything special either. Tamales Don Misael has authentic Mexican choices in Lyons including of course tamales. Also burritos. You can get your full for cheap with a combo or a lunch. After getting here for the first time we weren't expecting much out of it. It didn't look like the food could be that good, but it was better than it looked. The cheap prices made it better too. Be sure to get an authentic drink. It's $2 for a cup, including of Jamaica, which is the hibiscus water. Has a sweetness to it but not too much. The food is what brought us here though. Among the stuff ordered was a Vegetarian Burrito. It's $8 for a big one. A filling lunch. This was stuffed with beans, rice, and vegetables. Comes with cheese and sour cream. The service was so bad, that the waitress forgot my daughter's tamales and she never brought us salsa or more napkins. We had to be very sparingly with the amount of napkins available to us, they only gave us one napkin for each person. The food wasn't that great but very mild tasting wise. Que delicioso! Just wow. Best restaurant tamales I've ever eaten, hands down. This is coming from someone very particular about my tamales. I make my own tamales at Christmas time and the ones from Tamales Don Misael are similar to them. They are the perfect size, full of a perfectly steamed masa and lightly seasoned. Very generous with the fillings but not overfilled. What I particularly liked was there was a good selection of vegetarian options. They were unfortunately sold out of the bean and cheese tamale so I opted for Tamales preparados (and chose two rajas con queso tamales). I was curious to see how the tamales were served. The red zesty sauce on top was amazing and it was covered in melty white cheese. Mmm mm! I also couldn't resist and got a Quesadilla de masa (queso). It was hot and loaded with gooey mozzarella cheese, all wrapped up in a huge homemade tortilla. The complimentary green sauce and red salsa with chips was amazing, so much flavor. They were out of horchata so I got a Jamaica hibiscus water beverage. It was fruity and delicious. Our server was so friendly and chatty. We enjoyed talking with her. Bathroom is super clean (bonus). We stopped in here based on previous reviews and because we were in the area. And we were not disappointed! The server couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. She gave us expert recommendations and was spot on. There were three of us and we got a few different tamales including the green chile pork, the green chile chicken and the pibil. All were excellent and full of flavor. But the star of the show were the ribs in green sauce. Wow, so good! And so good in fact that one of us went back a couple days later to get them again! Yeah, that good. But I don't think you're going to be disappointed by anything here. And their salsas were great too. Not too spicy (I wanted more heat, but I accept that this is the Midwest). They got the food here on time but the food was dry Brunt and did not taste good .Called several times to speak to manager but he/or she never called me back . We always order from there without no problems and they were very good I work a U Chicago Medicine Adventhealth Hinsdale Hospital and we order there plenty of times . Everyone has waited for a long time for this place to open. Years and I'm not kidding. Finally having some free time due to being a trucker I decided to stop by and see what this place was about. I ordered 6 tamales oaxaqueños en salsa verde for pickup to compare how they are when you order take out. I will update later with on that... First appearance walking in the kitchen has a glass window and it's very clean and open feeling. They have a few tables (6) and a couple single seating options at the kitchen window counter so you get the view of the working kitchen. The kitchen was very clean and the ladies there were very clean and efficient. They have a self serve coffee station to the left and the seating to the right of the pickup counter. I first ordered a tamale oaxaqueño en salsa verde. They were on the small size at first appearance. There was a decent amount of meat and sauce but the tamale was really small. For the price you're paying I was expecting something a lot bigger. It was pretty flavorful and light texture which was pretty nice. It's not dense like most places. The tacos were.... Amazing. The meat was soooo flavorful. The steak was super tender and juicy. It was done perfectly. The seasoned pork was just as amazing. The tortillas are authentic house made. The maza was fresh and I swear I was back on the ranch. I wish I could buy the tortillas only and take them home. I only wished they had salsa in the bottles at the tables. The food was really good and great tasting. The quality was there and the service was great. It's very clean and the hour I was here.... Super busy on a Saturday 11:30-12:30. If you're the owner: please serve salsas at the tables or at least serve it in a bigger dish. Salsa isn't costly so I don't see where it could be a waste. Also the prices compared to portioning is very off. It felt like I over paid for the amount I got. It couldn't be a 5 start worthy establishment with a few changes. This is hands down the best Spanish restaurant I've ever been to. The food is always fresh and bursting with flavor. The portions are generous, and the drinks are just as incredible. Every time I visit, I end up ordering in bulk and stuffing my face because it's just that good. The staff are warm and welcoming, treating you like family. I'm always greeted with smiles, and the atmosphere is so friendly and comfortable. The place is spotless, and the salsa--wow!--so flavorful. The hot chocolate is out of this world. I love calling ahead to ask for recommendations, and they never miss. This place feels like home, and I'm obsessed! We finally came here for lunch today excited to try it out. We were served very good chips and very good salsa. I hadthe green chicken Oaxacqueño tamal Preparado...a bit disappointed. Was a bit on the thin side (which should be) and didn't really encompass the earthy, green banana leaf flavor that a traditional type of this tamal should have. I also ordered a steak taco which was tasty and on a homemade corn tortilla; it was smaller than El Milagro size tortilla, but still good. My friend had the tamal dinner of green chicken & red pork...all was good at that point. The reason we possibly won't be back...the service. The waitress serving us today seemed very uninterested, with a bit of attitude. Once we got our check, which clearly wasn't ours, we let her know and she just took it and walked away...no apology or concern...nada! So customer service needs to step it up in this place. The place itself is very clean, cute and comfy...almost north-side-like. So they got that very spot on! Be mindful that they do charge a service fee to use your credit card (as this is becoming more common unfortunately) but I didn't see it noted anywhere, but something worth knowing. I would also mention that they have a nice menu selection of Mexican dishes besides tamales, but their outside signage kinda makes one think this is the only thing they sell. Overall not sure we'll be back, but gave it three stars for the cute place and good regular tamales and steak taco...service needs much improvement though. read more

We've waited so long for this restaurant to open and were so excited to finally try it because there aren't many places that sell tamales in our area and most aren't that good. Don Misael did not disappoint! My husband and I brought a friend who makes tamales regularly following a cherished family recipe, so we were a little nervous the food wouldn't meet her high standards. But we didn't need to worry - she was very pleased and even said these were the best restaurant tamales she has ever had! Between the three of us, we enjoyed two combo dinners that included a choice of any three tamales with sides of rice and beans. My husband and I sampled the chicken with green sauce, pork with red sauce, jalapeno and cheese, and corn (one of the sweet options). Our friend had two cheese tamales smothered in red sauce, cheese, and sour cream. Yum! All were moist and delicious, with plenty of fillings and flavorful masa. The restaurant is spotlessly clean, and our server was friendly and attentive. As other reviewers mentioned, we would have appreciated more salsa with our chips. My 1st visit which was in the evening, I had Mexican coffee and chilaquiles, which are very good. Spicy and the tortillas just the right texture. I went for a afternoon breakfast. No complaints . My 2nd visit in the morning, service was very slow. No one approached or acknowledged me for several minutes. Then when you did , took several minutes to bring my coffee. I believe the coffee should be served promptly. I order huevos rancheros , but they didn't have Mexican coffee. I was surprised on how the rancheros were prepared. The eggs are placed on a square fried tortilla, the tortilla was a large chip , hard in texture, that surprised me. The salsa was not spicy at all, unlike the chilaquiles , which is perfect. I chose not to eat the square fried tortilla.. I was never asked if I wanted more coffee. They need a server to watch the tables. They ignore seated customers and prioritized walkin customers. I asked for a 2nd cup of coffee, the server , forgot about it and took.care of walkin customers. They need to hire more servers in the morning rush Bottom line slow service in the morning . And huevos rancheros are not prepared traditionally. Then I was asked if I spoke Spanish, that could complicate orders. read more

I had the good fortune to have lunch at Tamales Don Misael, and all I can say is wow! What a great meal! My son and I each got a three tamale dinner, and we were both incredibly impressed. The restaurant itself is really cute, and much larger than expected from the outside. It is very clean as well. The service was fast and friendly. As for other reviews in which they complain that the tamales were small, I would say that they are slightly shorter than some I've seen, but they were really filled with delicious meat, which more than made up for the length. I also think they work quite a good value in comparison to other quality tamales I've had. I will definitely be back to try some of their other menu items! read more
