These guys always do great work at an affordable price. They tell you honest and up front what the issue is and their recommendation to fix it. They put a new exhaust on a Subaru Legacy in under 2 hours for $480. They don't make appointments, so you have to just stop in and they'll get you taken care of. Was desperate to help my son get his noisy muffler fixed at a reasonable price today. Took it to the shop where he normally gets his oil changed and they said it would be almost $600. On a whim, I called Mr. Muffler in Painesville. John said he could take a look and give me an estimate if i brought it right over. I did, and the price was going to be $300. He explained why the other shop may have been more expensive. Mr. Muffler would only need to replace what was actually causing the problem, which would be cheaper. The other shop most likely had to order the entire exhaust kit (stem to stern) in order to fix the problem which would be more expensive. They said they could take the car and repair it right then. It was fixed in less than an hour. Friendly fellas that work there. They enjoy talking about the racing they do at the Painesville Speedway on Saturdays (and other places too). I was grateful one of these independent muffler repair places still exist. Please support them so they'll be around in the future - plus you'll likely save yourself a lot of money! Brought my car into the shop and requested they replace my entire exhast from the catalytic converter- back. Once they looked at my car, they advised the muffler didnt need done, despite being told by 2 other shops that it did. So I agreed to have the work done. Not even 2 days after picking up my car from the shop, than the muffler fell off completely, dragging on the highway, nearly causing an accident. When I called the shop about it they had closed early that day, so i left a message and never heard back. I then called on the next day they were open, and was immediately given attitude from the owner and told he couldnt do or even advise anything until i brought the car in. So i immediately brought the car in, with the rusted out muffler in the back seat now. Was told they couldnt even look up what work was done without the paperwork (that i was never given since i paid over the phone) and was told it wasnt their fault, because they have no way of knowing how bad the pipe was that they attached to. All the while im trying to explain that i was assured it was fine, the owner is now yelling at me in front of my kid that if i didnt want the work done, to get out, and that I should have just bought a newer car. When i said it was bad customer service to yell at their customer in front of a kid, he said he treats everyone the same way, and that it was my fault he was yelling, mind you, though i was upset, i never once raised my voice or used any disrespectful language. I even offered to pay for the parts if he covered the cost of labor, since it should have been done at the same time as the other work, which he refused again, and basically told me to go screw myself if i didnt want to pay him for the job. I have no receipt for the work done, or the warranty i was said to have and a nonexistant exaust. I had to take off work several days to have a nonfuntioning car and nearly got in an accident because of this shops negligence, and didnt even get an apology. read more

I am a single woman whose car was undrivable. I had to have my car towed into Mr. Muffler, I came along with the tow truck. I forgot to bring my phone charger with me (my fault), so within hours of arrival, my phone died, cutting me off from everyone who could have helped me. I was first quoted just under $450.00 to install one new flex pipe and one new resonator. I was there for 4-6 hours while this was done. Then, as I go to leave, the check engine light is blinking like crazy, so I pull back in. That's when the smug man behind the counter tells me that they didn't do any diagnostic, they only replaced what I said needed to be replaced. They tell me that it would be $79/hour to diagnose what is wrong with my car. I tell him I don't have that kind of money. He then says that I probably need spark plugs. Because I have no other car, no way to call anyone for help, and very far away from home (where there is no public transportation), I authorize him to put 4 new spark plugs in my car. This is almost another $150. For 4 spark plugs. Nothing else. Well, the next day, the check engine light comes back on. I stop back at Mr. Muffler to ask why I have a check engine light after $600 of work the day before. I'm told that if I want to know, then it would be $79/hour to diagnose. I tell them that I can't afford that, that my family is not having a Christmas this year because all the Christmas money is in Mr. Muffler. So, I'm sent on my way. While I was there the second time, I noticed another woman, alone, sitting in their waiting room with a look of devastation on her face. I can only imagine that I wore that face the day before. I found a shop that will run a diagnostic on my car for free. He puts my car up on the rack to show me what Mr. Muffler did and tells me that this was not worth $600.00. This other shop is taking care of me and not fleecing me. Mr. Muffler, from my experience, preys upon women customers. Do not go to them. read more
