Checked out Mr. Kream not too long ago, and will definitely be returning back soon! The location is right in Wynwood, around the block from Salty Donut. It has a really cool, old school hip-hop vibe to it. There are pictures of rappers all over the walls ranging from Tupac to the Notorious B.I.G. This place is advertised as an ice cream lounge, and that is exactly what it is. Even the ice creams are named after different artists! It was very tough deciding between all of their funky flavors. Just to name drop a few, "Jenny from the Block" is a dulce de leche flavor, "24k carrot cake" and "Grand Daddy Purp". We opted for the Akon Dark Chocolate, and Cool Like That Mint. Both flavors were exceptional. Taste and quality-wise. They were rich and creamy and it was very obvious that only high quality ingredients are used. While on vacay in Miami, we tried the carrot cake and Cuban coffee flavor ice creams. The carrot cake was outstanding. It was so good that it stole the thunder of the coffee flavor. The other room has tables, chairs, sofa seats, dj booth and ice cream, drinks and other treats to enjoy. It has a super cute and cool 80's and 90's hip hop vibe and decorations. Oh Yessss I don't care what flavors you already had somewhere else, this isn't that. Just go in and try. Creamy, tasty, sweet... original names for original flavors, a great service, and good ambiance. If you're into hiphop, you're probably giving it the fifth star, though I felt the music volume is just a tad to high, even then. Now, the experience: I was brought here on a Friday night after wondering around Wynwood for fun, food, and drinks. I had never been to Mr. Kream, and it just recently moved, so all we found at first was an abandoned place with a hand made cardboard sign saying they moved, with an arrow pointing left, and the address... in a weird way, you later realize this unintentionally feels perfectly in-sync with the feel the shop is trying to accomplish. You go in to find yourself in a weird mix. The color palette is very retro-pop, with the turquoise and magenta (and a few fluorescent spots), while the feel is definitely going for a hybrid between a neighborhood store with a hip-hop vibe. There are tables with games I saw a huge card deck, a huge Uno deck, and at least two jengas, and, of course, an arcade (I couldn't be in a place without an arcade this week,apparently) :-p The staff here is very nice. They are characters, in a way, and I felt they accomplished a way to give you "attitude" while staying very playful and respectful. As every ice cream store ever, they let us sample the flavors, but the server actually makes a point of explain what your going to try and why it is great (other customers actually told their server they were undecided, just to be told "that is my job: to confuse you! I charge by the hour, so the longer you take to decide, the better for me". I thought that was a nice way to let them know they could take their time). I'm not well versed in the world of hip-hop, so many of the puns of their ice-cream names have a lesser effect in me, but I've been assured that they are pretty clever. At first I was going to experiment, and everything I sampled was really (really) good... but I ended up with "coconut" and "coffee". You could argue those are not exactly what you would call new experiences... ... but you'd be wrong... when you compare a good new thing with a really good version of what you like, addiction takes over, so I had a two-scoops cup with Redz Cafe and... I think the coconut one was called Shabba Ranks, but I feel I may be mistaken. The coffee isn't your regular coffee icecream, this is really a kick of colada in your sleep center. I swear I heard in mi mind the kids singing "9, 10, you'll never sleep again". I loved it, but the star was the coconut, with chocolate fudge and nuts. Actually, I take it back... a little scoop with a bit of each in your mouth is a party. In short: very good ice cream, great staff, nice ambiance, deduct points because the names are just a tad confusing (though the servers explain very well, so I give back the points)... and a really big deck of Uno. The only reason I went here was because I saw it in love and hip hop lol and the ice cream looked good with a cool concept. The place turned out to be the best ice cream shop I've ever visited. This place is going to be hard to top and it's because of two things the hip hop concept and the flavors. It feels like you're chillin in an environment similar to rap city the basement and eating ice cream. The food was delicious I myself tried the two live blue which I came to the conclusion that I don't need to try any other flavor there. When I tried it angels sung wonderful bars of my favorite hip hop songs and I know it was love. To top it off I got it over a bad ass chocolate chip cookie that will make you slap your momma, daddy aunt, uncle and first cousin. Another thing that was top notch was the customer service the guy helping us was as live as a radio DJ and helped my wife pick a few flavors that she couldn't decide on he was awesome I'm upset I didn't catch his name he deserves the recognition. Recently, I was celebrating my birthday with friends in Coconut Grove, where they convinced me to forgo desert at the restaurant and instead we'd grab a beer (or two) at J Wakefield Brewery... then they said, "maybe we'll stop for ice cream first" We arrive in Wynwood and the area is very alive (Saturday night around 11 pm)... We park and I assumed we are headed to the Brewery and then my friends take a sudden turn into a building less than a block away from Wakefield Brewery... The Building was dark and old-school hip-hop was blasting from a speaker at the front door; I'm thinking "my friend's brought me to a dance club"... considering I don't care for clubs (or dancing), I wasn't feeling the love anymore... Then again... I love being pleasantly surprised... it was no dance club; it was an ice cream parlor, but like no other ice cream shop... more of a memorial to great moments in music mixed with ice cream shop, mixed in with street art/murals. The walls had great murals with a variety of tags/graffiti, lots of knick-knacks following the same themes like old spray paint cans, lighted signs and records hung on the walls, games on the tables like oversized Jenga and huge Uno cards... there was even an area dedicated to selling specialty spray paint for murals. Especially love the walls that have throwback pictures of hip-hop and R&B superstars from the past... nothing like licking my ice cream with Tupac, Eazy-E (Eric Lynn Wright), Biggie Smalls and Coolio... it's such a Gangsta's Paradise Most importantly... the ice cream The selection of flavors were all named after classic songs or music artists (nice creativity going on here). And the selection and combination of flavors were superb; plenty of toppings to pick from too. Beyond the cups/cones of ice cream they also offer plenty of sundaes and floats and all that other good stuff (like the Fat Boy... brownie sundae). In addition to all the choices and flavors, they are generous with the samples; I never asked for one but they offered more than one to me. Though I love the sample I tried of "Da La Guava" and "I'm Cool Like That" and "2 Live Blue", I ended up getting a "Biggie Small" (that's a medium sized cup) of "Grandaddy Purple" (chocolate and raspberry) and "Reds Cafe" (cuban coffee). Second time coming here and this time I came on a Saturday night. I was very surprised as to how packed it was; the line was out the door. Although the ice cream flavors are unique and tasteful, there were a couple things that made this review fall short from a 5 star review. I came with a party of 8 and some people in my party wanted a brownie sundae and some others churros. When someone orders the brownie sundae, it wasn't warmed, the brownie was hard and you could barely cut it with the plastic spoon. We were also told that they only had one type of brownie left and other people were ordering different brownies. When we ordered the churro, we were advised that "they weren't being made at the time". I would appreciate if it's because they are busy, then they need to bring more staff at night so that they can have a little bit of a better service. But telling customers you don't have something or doing it half way, when clearly you do is unacceptable. Like I said, the flavors of their ice cream are very creative and delicious and I will not give this a worse review but my experience was not great. read more
