In the early morning, the bright fluorescent lights feel particularly oppressive. Stainless steel chairs are pushed up against 2 wooden laminate tables, and the remaining counter space is littered with old appliances, pink takeout boxes, and other knick-knacks. The poorly lit donut display is filled only with the most traditional varieties -- the apple fritter and cinnamon roll are the edgiest options. Chinese pop music plays, interrupted intermittently by crackling feedback and newscasts from the tiny flatscreen television behind the counter. A consistent trickle of regulars arrive to dine in and take out during the weekday earlybird service. When I arrived about an hour into opening, I was surprised to find that not all donuts were yet available -- specifically, I was left without any maple or chocolate-frosted options. Instead, I settled on a plain glazed raised donut and an apple fritter. The still-warm ring was anything but "plain", and it sported a pleasantly even, melt-in-your-mouth glaze and an excellently light texture. In contrast, the warm fritter was bogged down by grease and butter; despite occasional apple chunks, the flavor was overwhelmingly cinnamon-y and one-dimensional. My two donuts ran me $3.60, cash only. While I might not get the fritter again, the fresh, plain glazed was an unequivocal winner. My family and friends have been coming to Mr. Good's for over 10 years and the donuts have always remained consistent, which is so hard to find and come across. It truly brings nostalgia whenever I eat these donuts because the taste is always on point. This is a family owned and run donut shop that has been a staple in Alhambra. I actually prefer these donuts more so than Krispy Cremes and Dunkin Donuts, since those types of donuts tend to be more sweet for my palate. Key note: Don't sleep on their apple fritters. Perfect amount of sweetness. Sooo good and has a crunch to it! They have a great selection on display. I always make sure to ask for a box of a dozen donuts first before picking what I want. There aren't many donuts in the display and I always enter thinking that it may be closed or that the employees aren't actually there. But then someone will pop their head out from behind a huge stack of boxes and ask what I'd like in a voice as quiet as a whisper. I pick the donuts, pay, and leave. The experience doesn't feel real since it's so outside of the norm of every other donut shop I've ever been to. There's no excitement in the air, no rush, no smell of coffee constantly being brewed, no TV, no music. It's just quiet. As I question why I came here, I take a bite of the donut and am blown away. They're always so airy and light and perfect. They aren't too sweet, dense, or stale tasting. I've tried several different donuts now and have had the same reaction each time. They're PERFECT. Wife stopped by for some donuts while she was out running errands. By the time I got home from work it was already late and I expected a stale donut but to my surprise it was delicious. So delicious that I went back the morning after because my daughter asked for more. This unfortunately will be the first and only time I come by this shop. The good: Mr. Good's has the goods. Donut miss out on a good old classic donut from here. I tried three donuts: the maple bar, a custard, and a coconut donut. All were fluffy, not overly big, and had great texture/flavor. The donuts here aren't pretentious or covered in heavy spreads or cereals that take away from the donut itself. I am definitely more of a raised donut lover versus a cake donut lover. The ones here are raised and have a nice lightness to them. The price is also great! The donuts come in your classic pink donut box. The bad: They close earlier on weekends (2 vs. 5pm). There's no outdoor seating. The interesting: It's cash only. read more

Imagine as a member in the community you go to support a local family business to get 3 dozen donuts for a student celebration. Sounds like a good start to the morning, right? But, the elderly lady working was so incredibly disrespectful and rude that I ended up saying "No problem" meaning don't let me bother you with my business you seem to disdain and walking out. I was giving my order and noticed that after ordering 5 of one item and 5 of another she had not started putting any donuts in boxes despite holding the tongs and box. I looked up to see if everything was okay because every donut shop usually puts in the donuts as you say them and I was confused. Then she actually made a mocking face at me and sneered with her lips and barked "What's wrong?!". "Give me your order!" So I said do you want me to list all of it -because I thought how could someone remember all of the items- but I begin listing everything I wanted as she indicated. Then she said "Ok Ok" like she realized her mistake. I just wanted to reward some students and support a local business so the disrespect and rudeness to customers is really an embarrassing reflection on this business. It was just a nickel so I was just going to leave, but when I was standing there confused as to why she didnt at least offer it, she just stared at me like what? I thought I was confused, so I asked if there was change. She just stared at me for a while and begrudgingly took it out super slowly. Made me feel ridiculous over 5 cents. He had still quite a collection of donuts to choose from near the end of the day which isn't quite common in the donut shops I usually go to. I didn't have any breakfast so I went to Mr Good's to pick up donut on a Wednesday in April. The place was empty at 7am. Not many choices just basics, such as cinnamon rolls, glaze twist donuts and regular glaze donuts muffins, and donut holes. The petite Asian lady greeted me and helped me get cinnamon roll $1.35. Came a few weeks ago to buy a dozen donuts and 5 Ham and cheese croissants for work. I wanted to have the croissants cut so that my colleagues can just grab half each and asked politely if cutting was an option (other donut places have offered without me asking) and the older lady there gave me the rudest tone of response and a firm "NO" like I was inconveniencing her. After reading the other 5 reviews, I was thinking maybe this is where my high school business/fashion teacher gets the ham&cheese from to make us kiddies spend money and turn fat during lunch. Ive been running errands all day and I wanted to come here immediately after realizing I was eating right across from it earlier. I go in and its pretty empty. Well, duh. Its about 4:30 and the lady was sweeping the floor away. Close to closing time. Too bad the ham&cheese didnt sweep me off the floor. I asked for 4 ham&cheese. There was only one. Snatched that baby up! Nomnom. Waited till I got home to eat it. Took it out of the bag, and it wasnt my highschool croissant. Sadface. Sliced it in half and was disappointed. For such a big round croissant, wheres the filling!? Angryface. But it tasted the same as the one from high school so thats ok. This donut shop should be named "Mr. Terrible." I have never seen such terrible and horrible customer service. I regret not reading all the bad reviews before visiting this awful place. I completely agree with the negative reviews; I had a bad experience that ruined my morning. It was my first and last time there. I will never return to this horrible shop, which is dark, unclean, and unpleasant. The elderly couple running the place has no manners and is rude, unprofessional, and uneducated. They are so cheap that they refused to provide a box for the number of donuts I ordered. The old man put each donut in a small paper bag instead of putting them all in a box for me to bring to the office for my staff's breakfast. He screamed and yelled at me when I asked him to use a box instead of small paper bags. I was so mad that I left the shop. I went to another donut shop in Atlantic, where they provided excellent service and a very nice, fancy box. I highly recommend avoiding this place. They only deserve zero stars. read more
