Lots to love about the name of our next place -- Mr. Goodbar. Mister. Good. Bar. Maybe a little too on-the-nose? "Mr. Goodbar? That's my father. Please, call me Goodbar." Location: 3 / 5 Goodbar got off to a rough start. Our first seats were in close proximity to the bathroom, from which a pungent urinal cake odor emanated. We were able to relocate easily... but the experience lingered. Why must we be forced to contend with urinous odors on so many of these visits? On the plus side, Mr Goodbar has an impressive beer offering and is a great experience otherwise. Presentation: 3.5 / 5 They did a nice job separating the flavors and explaining the respective style differences but as you can see, there were a lot of paper products. A little more porcelain would go a long way to a better score here. Meat: 3.5 / 5 These chickens would have made good politicians because they had extremely thick skins which led to a chewy experience at times. Also, there were a surprising number of oddball shapes with bones sticking out. Cook: 7 / 10 The layout of Goodbar gave us a different perspective on this scoring section because most of the food preparation occurs right out in the open for all to see. We were a bit fearful that it would be like touring the sausage factory (after which most people never want to eat sausage) but it was a quiet night so our order got the maximum attention and everything came out hot and crispy. Specialty: 6.5 / 10 The Horsey Honey Mustard tasted almost nothing like mustard, honey or horse (which we understood, hopefully, to be horseradish). Cajun stout were a decent, sweet BBQ style but not enough Cajun and very little stout. And finally the Italian wings were basically just a plain wing. With all these creative-sounding styles, we were expecting a trip through flavor country and instead we got a stroll through blandsville. Wing std: 13.5 / 15 This is the money category and Goodbar hit the jackpot here. The application of sauce was perfect and the standard medium sauce was a great blend of heat and buttery flavor. While we were somewhat split on the specialty flavors, the Kings were in unanimous agreement about the standard wings. Overall, be careful what you order and be more careful where you sit. This leaves Mr Goodbar somewhere in chicken wing purgatory. While these were good enough to keep them off our "cut" list, they were also not good enough to earn them a playoff spot. Overall Score: 37 / 50

Great wings! I used to go here when I was in college to drink. Now I'm a middle aged dude enjoying the wings.

I've been here a few times, for drinks with friends and for their "Dear Diary" series in the warmer months. Last night was my most recent trip, because sometimes you just need a nice divey type of bar. There were seats that the bar, so we saddled right up and ordered drinks. I saw on the specials board that they had some nice looking drink specials, one of which was $3 green tea shots. Ordered three, one per person in my group. They were made with Jameson and tasted legit like green tea. Whhhaaat?! I know, $3 for a Jameson shot is a darn bargain if I've ever seen one. Things I love: -heated patio in the winter for smokers/ people who want fresh air -pool table! -food/drink specials -expansive upstairs area (where they host dead diary) - dear diary nights- people legitimately get on stage and read excerpts from their childhood/ teenage diaries- it is HILARIOUS. Downsides: -it's an Elmwood bar and can get crowded - the parking can be a nightmare if you drive there Overall, one of my favorite divey joints in the city.

Amazing beer selection and equally amazing wings!!! The current owner is a huge beer fan and really knows his beers. In addition to the normal Blue, Bud Light and Rolling Rock, there's also about 36 micro-brews on tap. The owner tries his best to have them all be different styles so theres a TON of variety. Goodbar also hosts a beer club the second Wednesday of every month. Beer club is set up like a traditional tasting where you get to sample about 12 beers. There's always a speaker for the event and every month has a different theme...like German beers, stouts, or maybe only beers from a specific brewery. It's always a great time and you get introduced to some amazing beers. The food at Goodbar is all deep fried but they have a good variety of snacks as well as a few unique ones to keep it interesting. The wings are the best in the city!!! When people come in from out of town and they want wings, I take them here. Besides the normal, hot-medium-mild flavors they have about 10 specialty sauces that are nothing short of amazing. Try out the creole or cajun stout. Overall, Goodbar offers tastey affordable beer, delicious wings and nice folks to enjoy them with!

Her bass player is amazing! He sounds like Brad Paisley! I have no musical talent so it really moved me how well he played the bass. The other artists played well too! The venue is fantastic. It was my first time here. Sportsman's Tavern bought the venue three or four years ago. It isn't a dive bar like Sportsman's Tavern though. It's much more intimate. It's classier too. I liked the way they had the tables set up. I loved the stage area too. There is a small bar area where you can order drinks. There was also a waitress coming around asking if we wanted drinks or food. They have a small menu, and the food sounded good, but I wasn't hungry. You can park on the street or in their small parking lot, which holds about 25/30 spots. You'll enter the venue via a dark door near the front parking spot. There is much more room inside, than how it looks from their lot. The lot was a bit hard to find. I ended up driving around the block and then I noticed it. I'd love to come back here and see another concert soon!

Best to get there early! - at 7:45, most tables were taken. By 8:30 the crowd was packed at the bar and there almost wasn't enough room to even stand (maybe it's not normally that busy?) - bathrooms were clean and spacious - staff were all friendly - i recommend buying your ticket online ahead of time. I had to go early to buy one at the door (when I called at 7, they said they expected it to sell out before 8) - it looks a little odd from the outside, but The Cave is definitely a cool spot to stop at if you like live music!

So glad that on the spur of my girlfriend invited me to go to hear some jazz piano on a Sunday night. Great way to end the weekend! Small group of silver-haired patrons. These are dark, dark times indeed...but somehow, Nietzsche's is a little beacon of light down at the end of Allen Street. From the exterior, it isn't hard to surmise that Nietzche's is a dive bar. Very much coated outside and in with writing on the walls, old photographs, weird relics that have been around for longer than I've been alive, you immediately forget what the sun looks like if you're going in in the daytime. But, that's okay. The people of Allentown will tell you that the dark is comforting...and you wouldn't want to see a place like this properly lit up ANYWAY... But don't get it twisted, what might come off as "rough around the edges" to some, this bar is absolutely one of the coziest, comforting dives and I'm always ecstatic whenever I get the chance to come here. They have a pretty decent variety as far as beverages go. Mostly tap beers, but they have a fridge with plenty of other canned stuff; my go-to is a cider, of course. A cheap PBR is my husband's drink of choice and has been for most of his adult life - and that's what we love about this place! The consistency!! Live music daily. Yes, daily. They literally have a calendar inside that will tell you every musician that has booked a spot that day. Sometimes it's just a solo guy playing in the front of the house, other times there's a full band in the back. Either way, you're going to get a totally unique music experience here, no matter what day you pick or what time you get there! I think they have snacks here?? I can't remember. After The Pink burned down we went to Nietzsche's the next day and they were serving up bagels and cream cheese. Totally unique experience. But I have eaten in this establishment before. However, this place isn't known for it's food, so I wouldn't rely on it. Instead, might I recommend the Jim's SteakOut down the street? Nietzsche's is owned by some pretty good people now, who are putting their heart and soul into keeping the business good and the music flowing for years to come. And I can't wait to go back. Rock on y'all.

It features: 1) reasonably priced drinks, a fundamental part of the constitution of dive bars, offered in exchange for you overlooking the generally aged and squalid character of the establishment as a whole. 2) Two large indoor areas (the up and down of a split-level), the rear of which frequently hosts often-free live music (there's a Thursday open mic I attend), plus an outdoor patio for the warmer months. 3) Multiple TV's for the sports fans plus electric darts and a jukebox to pass the time. 4) Surprisingly good bar food that is also surprisingly veg and vegan-friendly. This is also quite reasonably priced, but the incredibly tiny kitchen area at the west end of the bar can get overwhelmed during rushes, leading to lengthy wait times. 5) Folksy and direct service of the dive-bar variant: friendly and colloquial, the more so the better known you are, without the greasy and obsequious taint of corporatism. Parking is on-street, but maybe you're allowed to use the lot across from it? It has no sign and I've never asked. In any case, CPG is a keeper if you're partial to the benefits of shot-and-beer, working-class local pubs.

There are several exhibits, including: - a timeline that follows the evolution of American music.
