Great Ambiance, yummy wings and the service was excellent. They had the appropriate staff for the opening night of the Buffalo Bills in there new stadium. Great job
Haven't been here in 19 years! Hoping for a great meal! First time we came with 4 kids. This time we came with Dad. Accessible bathrooms available with changing tables. High chairs available. The women's bathroom needed cleaning, but it was 3 pm so they may have just gotten over a lunch rush. For the most part it was very family friendly and the sounds were tolerable and we could talk and be heard at a natural level. Decor was great and every group that came in was seated promptly. We had no wait time at 3pm. Samantha the server was great! Tables were bussed and reset as groups left. I will come back !
Service was nice. Cool ambiance. We flew in from NC and this was our first stop. The original wings - AMAZING. Boneless - not good IMO. Sampler was good - Mozz stick is always a fave.
We were in Buffalo to visit friends so had to make a stop at the iconic Anchor Bar for Buffalo wings and a beef on weck! We split a plate w 5 wings, a sandwich and potato wedges. Holy cow that was a lot of food. We were certainly full and the meal was great. The bread was soft w caraway seeds, and the meat was tender and flavorful. The wings were in the buffalo dry rub w mild sauce - we had a plane to catch so nothing too spicy. The wings did have a lot of flavor, not hot but a bit warm. And there was a good crunch to the outside. The interior was all dark wood, motorcycles, and license plates. It added to the ambience of a dive bar w great food. We will definitely go back!
This was a disappointing experience, especially as a huge wings fan. I was excited to visit the birthplace of Buffalo wings and expected something memorable: maybe a classic, old-school bar with a little grit and a lot of character. Instead, the place felt more like a cavernous tourist stop than the legendary wing destination I had imagined. The wings were good, but not great. We ordered them dry so we could try several sauces. The wings were cooked perfectly. The sauces, however, were underwhelming. We tried the garlic parmesan, the original, and the extreme heat sauce, which I believe used to be was called "Suicidal." They all seemed to rely almost entirely on cayenne and butter, with limited complexity and less heat than expected. Maybe I've been spoiled by other wing spots with more creative sauces and better blue cheese and ranch, but these just didn't stand out. That said, the service was great, and I appreciated the staff. I'm glad I went for the history, but based on the food alone, it didn't live up to the hype. I will not go back.
Can't believe it being so many years around in Buffalo never made it to the "original" Anchor Bar where the famous Buffalo Wings were invented. Probably because the spot is very touristic - but nevertheless it was a great experience. The sauce is really good (and spicy) as in other Anchor Bars. The staff was very friendly which is remarkable in such a busy place where people are coming and going all the time. So yes, you have to go at least once in your life there .
Good food, staff and atmosphere. Your regular neighborhood bar. Had a dj! Dj was good he played everything. Wings were good too.
If you find yourself in Buffalo, there are a few things that must be done before you leave. In fact, right up there on my list of favorites including Niagara Falls in a snow storm (worth it!) is this place! This is the place that invented the chicken wing! Rather than give you a history lesson, let me tell you about these wings! They are so light and crispy, literally melt in your mouth. The quality of the chicken is superior to anything I've ever had. Skip the fries! Not because they aren't good, but you will want to eat your whole plate of wings, and you have to choose how you are going to fill your stomach. The decore is not really decoration! It's the original dining room complete with grey and black checkered floor, and a whole collection of memorabilia from all the famous folks who have been here. It's like a museum! All the newspaper clippings and magazine covers are right there giving you the rundown of the significance of this place to our culture and how Americans do food! Come hungry! You will enjoy every crispy bite!
Forever this will be my top 3 favorite Wing place. Many people overlook this place or think they are overrated. No way. The nostalgic, the OG of wing places. The flavor is always a hit, super crispy and the blue cheese is a notch up of any other blue cheese. They only offer about 8 flavors to choose from which is great. They don't saturate and overwhelm people with too many choices. The atmosphere is great. Historical Buffalo greats all over the walls. Just imagine the stories told. Prices are comparable to any Wing joint. I will continue to come here every time I come to Buffalo. Overall a 9.6 out of 10.
These days, the most important thing is stroller accessibility and Anchor Bar has just that! This is the second time I've been here, and the wings do not disappoint. According to my husband, they were a lot better this time, but I always remember them being great. If you're in the area, definitely recommend!
Had a great time here sitting at the bar with my brother. Bartender was friendly and made sure we always had what we needed. First time here so we had to try the original wings. It tasted like a very good chicken wing. I think we were expecting to be blown away but cannot complain. "Divey" interior with a very casual atmosphere. TV's around the bar/restaurant so you won't miss the game.
I went here on a drive through the area a few days ago, and it was pretty good. I was expecting there to be a long wait, but in fact, the place was nearly empty. It looks like it's been a very cute tourist destination over the decades but a little bit rundown now. While the place was opened in the 1930s, it wasn't until the 1960s that the buffalo wing was invented here. And they are pretty good. We got them as a side item alongside additional entrées. The service was good. Even the bar was pretty quiet, but a nice bartender offered to take our photograph with the Statue of Liberty since we were being tourists. This place is all right. They have a wide variety of other food in addition to wings. If you want a sandwich, burger, pasta, you can find it here for sure. There is construction going on outside and it seems like a windy way that you need to drive in order to get there, but the directions are correct and you will get there.
Very historic. But definitely not the best wings in buffalo. Free parking for customers. The originators
This is the original location serving up one of Buffalo's most popular foods, "chicken wings." It's icon and rich in history with statutes and memorabilia which, are showcased throughout the establishment. I ordered the (20) piece wings in assorted flavors. They were cooked perfectly and tasted amazing. read more
Best wings! Had to stop at Anchor bar-where the buffalo wings were born. Wings were crunchy, tasty and moist in the inside. Our waitress was nice but the rest of the staff wasn't too friendly. They also have a little shop inside with various products such as Tagus and buffalo sauce. Sadly, the Buffalo sauce wasn't as good as I expected. Went in a weekday right when they opened so it wasn't too crowded and ample parking. read more
The one that started it all... As you likely know - Anchor Bar is the creator of buffalo wings. I could stop my review here, because that is all that matters. I love buffalo wings, and because of that, Anchor Bar has been on my bucket list for many years. On Friday July 31st, 2026 I finally checked it off the list...and it didn't disappoint. When you walk in you can feel the nostalgia. Make no mistake this is a quintessential dive bar. But it might be: "The" dive bar! The space is dark, and sprawling, with lots of license plates on the walls. We ordered the original wings and an order of potato skins. The skins were good, but the obvious star of the day was the wings! They were plump and tender with the perfect buffalo sauce! Service was good and prices were reasonable. If you love wings you need to make the pilgrimage to Anchor Bar - The one that started it all. read more

No visit to Buffalo would be compete without a visit to Anchor Bar, the inventors of the beloved buffalo wings. I went there for lunch, sat that bar, and my girlfriend and I shared the wings, with mild sauce, and a sausage pizza (it was national sausage pizza day). The wings came with a blue cheese dressing on the side. They were delicious. Just the right amount of sauce covering juicy wings. The only downside was that on an occasional bite the skin on the wings was overcooked and a bit hard. But most bites were buffalo wing perfection, just as I expected! The pizza was good as well. Not the most flavorful sausages, but there were plenty of them and the crust was good. I ended up eating more pizza than I expected. The bartender was friendly and served me a well made American mule. Not the biggest fan of the decor, which had way too much going on. You will have to check out the pictures to see what I mean. But the bottom line is that you get the original buffalo wings here and they have withstood the test of time and remain top tier wings. I can't say that about the creator of the cheesesteak here in Philly. Their cheesesteaks are far from top tier. read more
Loved the history behind this original place! Got 10 of their original wings and it's definitely worth trying. Compared to other chicken places, the chicken itself was very tender, not overcooked, and the sauce was plentiful. This location also has lots of apparel and souvenirs for sale at very reasonable prices! read more
I am so happy I finally made the pilgrimage to the birthplace of wings. I am, also, at a loss on how to position this review. I was CERTAIN I would feel one of two ways: 1) I loved it. It changed my life. I'm moving to Buffalo -or- 2) One should never meet their hero's as it will only disappoint. I have to say, I'm somewhere in between and I don't know what to do. Positives: *If you love wings, it's a must go. The atmosphere at the original location, the old-timers at the bar, the decor, the history. You have to go. *The wings were good. Meaty, fresh, hot. I got the "original" with hot buffalo sauce, extra blue cheese and extra celery. They were good. I loved the sauce level. *Service was fantastic. Loved the old-school order at the bar from your high top. Bartender was fantastic. *The look, the feel, the smells, the excitement from all who arrive (there was a line waiting for the door to be unlocked at 11am and the Bills weren't even playing). *I even managed to keep my emotions in check and not hit the merch section The "ehh:" *I wish I ordered my wings extra crispy and with extra EXTRA blue cheese. Extra blue cheese equals 2, 2oz soufflé cups *The blue cheese itself was ok. Not to the standard or the wing. *I ordered a beef on weck as well. Bun was amazing. Horseradish was perfectly hot. Price and portion good. Even the coleslaw was better than expected. But...the roast beef was mid-level Foodservice deli-wog. Not even board head quality - and DEFINITELY not house roasted. Odd for a "famous" Buffalo item. Bottom Line: Go! Go to the original location. The combination of the history and the fun and the food and the bar offerings make it fantastic. Are there better wings out there? Maybe. But when considering the whole package. It's a must go. I can tell you the food does not stand up by itself enough for me to run to a satellite or franchise location. But if I can get out to the original location - I will be back. And want to bring my kids. We live in CT. Oldest plays football in Rochester. Is it worth the 1:30 to get there from his campus? Yes. Worth the drive from CT? Nope. There are better wings in Rochester and perhaps even closer. So happy I went. Star rating will be on whole experience. Not just the food. Overall 4 stars. Food only 3 stars (sandwich killed the score). read more
Went to the famous anchor bar during a visit to my hometown and boy, it did not disappoint. Some people want a restaurant updated or remodeled... but it ruins everything if you do that. The anchor bar looks the same as it always had and that's comforting to me. The wings and pizza were of course, perfect and the service was A++++ read more

Okay this was one I was REALLY looking forward to since it was my first time in Buffalo. I heard this place was "iconic" and one of the first originals to create the "Buffalo" flavored wings...but let me tell you, these guys did NOT change their recipe or try to make it better at all over the years - in a bad way. Place was crowded, you can tell all visitors were there to check it out and have a true "Buffalo Wing". But probably honestly some of the worst wings I've had. Wish I knew a local so I could ask about where the best wings are. Environment seemed great watching the playoff games, but just not where you wanna go for wings in Buffalo. read more

On our way back from Niagara Falls, we decided to stop at Anchor Bar (my brother's request) because it is a must while in Buffalo. We arrived right before they opened for the day- don't judge, we had a long drive home! We weren't the first party that arrived but we did get seated almost immediately. While we had waited outside there is a big sign near the entrance with the history of the restaurant and how the Buffalo wing came about. Of course we started off with chicken wings, and tried the original and another flavor (couldn't remember the name but it wasn't my favorite). We also ordered the Hungarian stuffed pepper which I think burned the tastebuds off my tongue! I do love spicy but that was a bit much. I didn't order an entree but my sister in law ordered eggplant parm and it was very good! The portions were huge. If you want to try the home of the original chicken wing and Italian cuisine, consider stopping at Anchor Bar! read more
Heading home from our Canadian vacation, we flew in and out of Buffalo, NY, and figured iit was a good time to stop in and try the true home of a Buffalo Chicken wings at the anchor bar. When I'm Rome... We were quickly greeted and seated upon arrival, begging told we were welcome to explore the space. The walls of this place are covered with autographed pictures of celebrities from all around the world and years gone by that visited. The walls will certainly keep your eyes busy! Ordering was easy, it was a no brainer we came for Buffalo wings, only opted for boneless to reduce the mess before heading for the airport. We arrived early in the day, so food came out quickly and looked, smelled, and tasted great! The wings were great, but even the ones got messy. Wish we'd hd more time to try some of the other flavors, but enjoyed our visit Ranch fans be warned, the read more
Made it to the original Anchor Bar! Known as the home of Buffalo wings we had to stop in and see what it was all about. I'll say that I've had better wings, and it all felt a bit rushed, getting tourists in and out. The wings were fine and customizable, but id call it standard, good buffalo sauce. The standout was actually the wonton pizza rolls. Delicious. Would order again and buy in a frozen aisle if I could find them! Also saw many families enjoying the pizza. The parking lot gets full quickly, but we drove around a bit and found a spot. Tables turn quickly. It's also conveniently located to other attractions. There is a gift shop inside for swag. read more

After leaving Niagara Falls, we decided to drive through Buffalo on our way home just so we could make a stop at the Original home of the buffalo chicken wing. We were pleasantly surprised that they had a large (free) parking lot on site, as on street parking was scarce in this part of the city. We walked in and were seated almost immediately. In addition to the bar area, they have 3 rooms for seating, plus a small gift shop, and restrooms directly across from the main bar area. We ordered a few local favorites from the menu; the Buffalo chicken sandwich, some wings, and a weck roast beef sandwich (a Buffalo specialty) which features thin-cut roast beef on a salt-and-caraway-seed-coated kaiser roll called a kummelweck. The food was typical bar food, tasty, salty, and saucy. The decor was a hodge podge of collectible items; police patches from across the country, motorcycles, product signs from the past serveral decades. Plus awards and trophies from over the years. The service was friendly and the whole vibe of the place was casual and fun. We enjoyed our time there and even bought a t-shirt to bring home. read more

Seated with a smile by Hector - Alyssa and Kaylene were amazing servers. We were in town for a Bills game and had to have the Original Chicken Wings. This was on our bucket list trip on the way to Upstate NY. We got into town early afternoon on Saturday, it was not crowded and we got right in to sit at the bar. We had a double order of wings,1/2 were original medium heat sauce and the other 1/2 were Cajun dry rub. We got bleu cheese dressing. The wings were fantastic. So glad we stopped in. Very cool decor with all the motorcycles along the top of the wall. Great music playlist from one of the bartenders. Beers were ice cold. read more

Home of the original chicken wings, and the wings were pretty good, I got the recommend medium flavor and the wings were crispy and well sauced. The wings came with ranch and I made a detour before my flight out and they were nice enough to accommodate and make sure that I could try their best dish before I left buffalo. They also tasted pretty good to go, I ended up eating the wings at the airport, I also learned that they have a restaurant IN the airport, so you can try some of their wings there too. My favorite thing about this place was the atmosphere, I loved all the decorations and pictures on the wall, it felt like a fun place to bring your family too. read more
Introduction this new Alphabet Series of reviews: I'm starting a new alphabet series of restaurants gone to with my girlfriend of over a year up through this Easter weekend, which unfortunately have Covid, which means I have some time to crank out some Yelp reviews. So, there is that silver lining. I believe this will total 38 as I will do certain letters twice (like there will be another A where I live in Maryland). But for now, A is for Anchor Bar! Background on trip & getting to Anchor Bar: My girlfriend & I were on a trip to this area for an unofficial wedding more of a love ceremony of a loving couple we are friends with in Rochester. They live in Maryland too, but the guy was born in Rochester. But the real catalyst was the total solar eclipse on April 8, 2024. They did the ceremony before the eclipse was in totality. In spite of it being completely overcast in Rochester that afternoon, it was still really cool how dark it got. I know they experienced totality in Buffalo/Niagara Falls as well. The next day, April 9, was thankfully a much more of beautiful warm day, as we went to Niagara Falls. We were also thankful that it was just the 2 of us driving out there & back to the Rochester AirBnB on our own; as we wanted a peaceful ride & didn't want to deal with drama. After Niagara Falls, we went to the world famous Anchor Bar for dinner. This is in or near the Allentown neighborhood. They love Josh Allen in Buffalo (not sure if they named Allentown after Josh Allen or if it was always considered Allentown), and I loved him when I had him on my Fantasy football team. They have a free parking lot, which is always a place in a busy central city area. Anchor Bar experience: This is the world famous bar where the buffalo wing started in 1964. I'm not big on real spicy foods. For wings, in recent years I've mostly gone with dry rub and not big on buffalo sauce since it's a bit spicy. My g/f & I split 20 doing half buffalo (as we had to try the original) & BBQ. The wings are solid. Both the buffalo & BBQ were flavorful. It was definitely above average as far as wings go, but it wasn't the most amazing wings I've had either. I had a bit more of a preference to the BBQ as I'm not big on buffalo spicy, but it's not all that spicy, so it was still good. The BBQ was a bit more drenched in BBQ sauce than I'd like. If I'm not getting dry rub, I'd like it to be lighter amount. We were a large group. They accommodated us well. The larger party left a bit earlier from Niagara Falls, but the 6 of us sat at another table near us a bit later as there was more we wanted to see. Server was attentive to our needs like water refills. Neither of us are big drinkers and often just get water, but we decided to split a local beer, which was very good. Additionally, they have a lot of pictures & various bar tavern decor. They even have an old like mid-20th century payphone booth in the front area. And on the outside entryway, they have a buffalo statue. Overall, this was a positive experience here. read more
Yes, the wings were very good. Regular order was plenty for two of us. Followed advice from some Yelpers and all went well. Ambiance was very unique and interesting. A lot of nostalgic items throughout. Service was really fast and enjoyed every second here. Highly recommend a visit. Menu features a large selection of other food. Beer selections were abundant. read more
