This is an interesting spot. The original location was a victim of an arson fire so, they ended up…read morein this spot. This restaurant has played host to Chris Rock, Cedric The Entertainer, Rosa Parks, Snoop Dogg, Danny Glover and Sinbad (the comedian, not the pirate). This is where all the cool people go while they are in Anchorage. The restaurant is co-located with Tropical Latin Food. It is right next to the small Speedway gas station. It is not the best of locations. It has a few parking spots available that it shares with the other businesses in the strip mall that it is in. The outside of the spot is kind of dingy, and the inside was not the cleanest either. They were cleaning up when I got there though. So, the dining room area was closed and all the tables and chairs were pushed to the side as the mopped the floor. They do not have any menu available or a menu board. If you want to know what they have, you have to pull up the menu on your cellular device by going to their website. There is no QR code either. The staff their was friendly and helpful. I ordered the chicken dinner with yams and collard greens. The chicken was made fresh, so it took about 30 minutes to get my order. They just took my number and called me when it was ready. I am glad that my food was made fresh, because the food that they had on the line was scary looking. It had definitely been there for awhile. I would recommend getting your drinks from the Speedway next door. They have a better selection and are a bit cheaper. My meal was delicious. The chicken was tasty, hot and fresh. The collards and yams, even though not the best that I have had, were tasty as well. The chicken though was up there with the best I have had. This is a decent place to get your Alaskan soul food. I wish that the location was a little better though. I was teetering between a 3 and 4 star ratting, but the food tipped it to a 4. Definitely worth visiting and getting some of your hard earned dollar.

He opened his doors to us on Father's day as well. We are so appreciative that we had a place to gather and eat good food.

Here is a gem in a far off place from the basis of its inspiration. I'm on a strict diet and could…read morenot try many things and I don't like wasting money so I got a small dish that I could tolerate eating. The BBQ shrimp it was. Now anyone who knows about this dish understands it's not the same type of BBQ like we do ribs and chicken. This is a butter sauce that's seasoned to creole standards and served with French bread. Typically it's served in shell however these were peeled and served in the sauce. I'm not mad at this as I didn't have to get messy to peel the shrimp and dip the sauce etc. it was nice to eat it with a fork and already doused in the sauce. The bread was easy to dip and it wasn't salty. I'd love for my New Orleans born friends to make the trip in order to check this place out. I went early in the day shortly after opening so it wasn't salty not crowded at all and the host whisked me to a table with a good view for people watching. They were able to handle greeting, serving, and bartending between the 2 of them and not lose any grace or standards of service. I explained my dietary restrictions and the young lady was happy to navigate me through the menu. They have a full bar that I'm interested in delving into but I had to work later that day so water and soda were sufficient.

I will say they are 5/5 for friendliness…read more But for Cajun food they are lacking. What they did good was their French fries and nuggets which their fries are battered. For a kids meal this is a really big portion. For Cajun food it lacked flavor and was kind of just weird. The red beans were bland, Lacked real seasoning, salt and had chunks of carrots. The gumbo was alright but not good or exceptional by any means. I did like that the okra was fresh enough to not be slimy. But it had no spicy appeal, and lacked the holy trinity. It also wasn't oily which was nice. The jambalaya was outright bad. It tasted sour and just really off. It was also like a soup instead of a rice dish. To top it off there were chunks of shredded cheese in it. Crab cakes were alright but the dressing for it was incredibly mustard seed heavy. My husband was a fan of the sauce, but I really wasn't. The buttered bread was good. I can't foresee myself coming back just because it lacked the bold flavor I expect from Cajun food and tasted pretty weird. If I ever gave it another shot I'd probably try a poboy.
