This is easily one of my favorite restaurants in town. The staff if friendly and attentive, the food is fantastic and the atmosphere is pleasant. When I need to meet someone in town, or I just can't decide on what I want, my go to place is Mr. Chopsticks. I could eat there almost every day and not get sick of it, which is saying something. My go to meal is red curry with chicken and brown rice and I love their Tom Kha Gai soup. They also make a really tasty Thai iced tea. They divide the check by seat and then have an over all total so it makes it easy for splitting the meal up by person if you're having lunch with a friend, or just taking care of the whole check if you're feeling generous. I wish every restaurant did that. (especially in a double college town!) They also have a drive up window if you call your order in first. Handy. read more

Casual restaurant for a variety of Asian foods. Chinese, Thai, Sushi. Appetizers - tempura vegetables: Needed a little but more time in the fryer. Was expecting the normal dipping sauce that comes w/ tempura but got a sauce that was like duck sauce. - chicken egg roll: Had a little extra time in the fryer but not burnt and taste good. Entres: - Garlic Chicken Stir fry: Flavor was pretty good. My only complaint is the chicken to vegetable ratio. - Pad Jalapeno Tofu Stir fry: My girlfriend order this and said it was good. My family and I ate here last night to celebrate my sister's work promotion, and it is the first time in my life I've ever left a restaurant mid meal. To start, when we walked in we weren't greeted by any of the three servers standing around. There was a sign by the door with instructions to seat yourself, but when we went to the patio all but one of the larger tables was dirty or unbussed. A server came to our table quickly for drink and appetizer orders, but he seemed preoccupied and uninterested in our orders. No offering of appetizers, explanations of menu items, or even introductions for that matter. He brought our drinks and quickly left, but we had to get up to ask for a child's or to-go cup because my 7 year old nephew's cup was so large he nearly had to stand to drink it. He brought the cup and was again ready to walk away, and we had to stop him just to order our appetizers. They came out quickly, but because we again had to get up to find him for sauces, salt, and appetizer plates, our food was cold by the time we could eat it. The egg rolls were so bland and wet inside that we couldn't finish, but the accompanying chili sauce and the green beans were pretty tasty. It was a while before our server finally came back for our entree orders, but he quickly walked away without pre-bussing our empty plates or checking for needed drink refills. We all sat commenting on how often we saw the other waitress coming to her tables, but our waiter was seen standing around inside without ever coming to check on us. By the time another server delivered our food (and again just walked away) we were fed up, so I went inside and asked someone if we could get another server. Once ours saw me talking to someone else he became involved, but only long enough to scoff when I again asked if we could be switched to another server, which he finally agreed to. So we waited..... and waited.... and waited.... and after twenty minutes no one had come. Our drinks had been empty for nearly an hour, my sister's general tsaos chicken was soggy and not fully sauced, my nephew's tofu dish was hard and overly fried, my khao soi had no tofu, and the egg noodles that should've been in there (per the menu description) had been replaced with spaghetti. SPAGHETTI! Our dirty dishes still hadn't been bussed, our food was now cold from waiting for service, and when I again went inside to find our original server he was nowhere to be found. I asked for a manager and another server, rather than get one for me, simply asked me to tell him what the problem was. We were thirsty and hungry after more than an hour at this restaurant, so I let him know we were leaving to go dine elsewhere. He then rushed to send us some help, but by this point we'd all had enough. We went to Chili's, paid half of what we would've at Mr. Chopstix, and had the great service and consistent food we wish we'd gotten earlier in the evening. read more

You're welcome everyone!! I have searched the world over and found it!!! The worst sushi restaurant I've ever been to! If you LOVE mayonnaise, order the volcano roll. It's not as good as helmans mayo but the typical broke paletteless student will love it! I sent the tuna poke bowl back due to a terrible smell and after taste. Even the waiter freaked and apologized for the smell! When he came back he said the "sushi chef" (and I use that title lightly) said it was supposed to be that way!! The owner charged us for the food though it was inedible! The waiter was forced to charge us. This is what i get from straying from our regular restaurant. We tried this place because of the high rating. Apparently the people scoring this restaurant have never eaten in a clean, quality restaurant. Do yourselves a favor and pass this one up. read more

I don't get the love this place gets from old-time Dentonites. Maybe they've never had good Chinese/Thai to compare it with? Or it's the UNT crowd thumbing-up the cheap eats? In any case, I've given them at least 5 chances to cook a decent meal since I moved here 9 years ago, and they've failed every time. Most recently - fried cabbage spring roll - not bad, but nothing special, served with a generic sweet sauce. Hot & sour soup - way over salted, plenty sour, not hot at all. Kung Pao Beef - I asked if they put peanuts in, waiter said yes, I didn't find a single peanut - crushed or whole in the entire dish. Was served chicken instead of beef, but I was starving so went for it anyway. It was swimming in a sour, but otherwise flavorless sauce. Not hot at all, though I asked for it extra spicy. Waiter refilled my Coke with Dr. Pepper. The service sucks, the food sucks, just nothing to recommend this place. If you want good thai: Thai on the Square, Khao San or Andaman. If you want good chinese: Sorry, no such thing in Denton. Mr. Chopsticks, I'm done with you forever. read more

PRETTY GOOD SUSHI!! (in my novice opinion) I go to Mr. Chopsticks quite frequently. I usually order the Spicy Tuna rolls and then something random. Last time I was there I ordered the Alaskan roll in addition to the spicy tuna. I asked them to make the spicy tuna roll extra spicy, because they changed the way they make them. They used to almost mince the tuna together with the spicy sauce they add, but stopped doing it that way for some odd reason. My girlfriend always comes with me and she dislikes the food. She doesn't like sushi and always orders something random off of the menu and 9 times out of 10 she dislikes the meal. ( P.S. This is the first place I have ever eaten sushi and have had it 4 other places since my first time. I like their sushi the best, so far.) read more

Alright guys, I'm from Denton. I was a bartender on the square for 2 years, I support local like a good hipster, the only shirts I wear are from Denton festivals or bars or restaurants. I love everything about Denton and I used to love coming to this place. Right off the bat our waiter didn't introduce himself just a smug "what can I get you to drink?" That's fine but remember a simple lemon wedge with my water man. Ok so the meal isn't ruined I really don't care if I don't have a lemon wedge. So we'll have your AMAZING stir fry green beans to start. Relatively quick coming out of the kitchen and tastes great the only problem is I'm waiting until they get cold because I don't have any silverware or even napkins and the waiter has to go put on his Jean-chain before he can come by and check on us. So I get up and start a search party for this guy, find him, and we get our stuff. Food comes out and it is delicious! Waiter forgets about for a good 20 minutes AFTER we've finished our meals. So no refills on our water. No desserts. No to-go boxes. I guess we're done so I go on another trek to find our waiter that I guess joined a commune. Find him and we get our check. If they don't want me there I can make General Tso chicken at home. read more

We are from out of town but this place is a priority every time we come to Denton. Our favorite apps are the crab Rangoon (to die for!) and the fried spring rolls. They fry their food perfectly so it isn't chewy. Love the sesame chicken as an entree. I would buy the sweet and sour dipping sauce they serve with the apps by the bottle if they sold it. Be aware parking can be tough because this place is so good, but it's definitely worth it. read more

This way by far the worst Chinese food I have ever eaten. Or attempted to eat. I ordered Sesame Chicken and I couldn't even it. There were no sesame seeds in it. The vegetables were battered and fried along with the chicken. And for some reason, it had okra in it. The first bite had what I thought was beef, but I'm not sure. I've finally stopped giving this place the benefit of the doubt. The food is decently consistent but the service is more often than not very poor. The servers seem to just take random tables instead of zones. You sometimes do not see your server anywhere for long periods of time. Perhaps you could ask another server for assistance but good luck trying to figure out employees vs guests as they all wear casual street attire without even a basic name tag. Do not bother paying for a beverage as there are no hopes of getting a refill. Today our entree took 45 minutes to come to the table and yet our appetizer was still not delivered. To rub salt in the wound the server was very unhelpful when we asked about the missing appetizer. Yeah, the food is pretty good but the experience is just not worth it. I went here last night. Major disappointment! I just could not go on and let others be mislead and think this was good Chinese food. I had the red curry with chicken. It smelled like a hot dog. If it had tasted like a hot dog it would have been better than it was. No spice and no flavor. Soggy veggies. Enough said. Wife had the lomein. It was a little better than the Red Curry but not much. I thought since this place had been here for so long and since the ratings on yelp and others were good it would be good. It is not. No salt on the tables either. Never going here, again. Never once have a I had even decent service at best, which is unfortunate considering I don't find the food as good as the hype behind it (it's not bad food, but it's definitely not what it's chalked up to be... By any means). The last time I was there, I was there alone. There were only two other table seated, two at each, for a total of 5 people in there. I waited, and this is astonishingly not exaggerated, nearly half an hour before I was even spoken to... My waitress was very short with me to the point that I wondered if I had done something wrong or if she was mistaking me for someone... After she took my order, my food didn't come quickly. I ate it. It was fine. And by fine, I mean, not impressed. I couldn't help but think the entire time, "this is the quality of food I'm paying this much for? And for this kind of service?" The waitress never once came back by to ask to refill my drink. I ate my whole meal without ever getting a refill, and when I was finished eating, I know I sat there for another 10 minutes or so, just watching for anyone to walk by (I was seated back in the corner, near the bathrooms, by the way), and I was so frustrated and ready to get out of there, there was no way I was leaving a tip. First time in my life that I have not left a tip. I have never seen the hype behind this place, even among hearing some people say it's pretty hit-or-miss, but it will never get another chance from me to be one or the other. I'm also not normally one to leave poor reviews, because of how many people only review places if they had a bad experience, and that's usually because they came in being rude or something of that nature. Still love it - but I tried the coconut dumplings and was incredibly freaked out by the texture. I expected some sort of coconut custard like filling inside a fried wonton, like the dessert version of Crab Rangoon (don't steal my idea, I'm workin' on it over here). It's actually like a coconut gel that's solid enough to hold the shape of a dumpling and yet amazingly still feels slimy going down. Didn't taste bad, didn't taste much like anything. However, as someone who has texture issues with food, I was disturbed. Get it if it's your thing, don't get it if it's not. The new place is bigger but if you don't get there early then parking is a pain and finding a place to sit will be difficult. The food is decent but nothing to right home about. It is moderately priced and you get very large portions. It can take a long time to get your food if the place is packed. I usually get the sweet and sour chicken which comes with steam or fried rice and vegetables. It's not the best I've had, but it's still decent for a college town. They do have a large number of items for vegetarians which is a plus. read more

Hands down, my favorite casual place to eat in Denton. If you want amazing service, well, sorry. The casually-dressed, often 'hippie' employees are renowned for mediocre (though friendly!) service. But the menu items are all hits, with lots of space for meetings, study groups, including an outdoor patio you're allowed to bring behaved pets to. Their Tom Kha Gai soup is my weakness. No matter what I order regular-food wise, I always get a large Tom Kha Gai for leftovers to bring home. YUM! If you're looking to splurge a little, any of their noodle or tempura dishes are a must. In addition to the food, the dining atmosphere and wait staff are friendly and inviting. We have been coming to Mr. chopsticks for about 5 years now. It has never disappointed us. Not once. I love the atmosphere. It reminds me of Santa Fe or Austin. Laid back and welcoming. We have always had great, friendly service too. As far as the food goes. I LOVE the egg drop soup and the Tom Kai (sp). It's always very good! Their Curry choices are also delicious. My hubby loves their pork fried rice. We aren't sushi eaters so we can't comment on their sushi but my son and DIL have had it and they said it was delicious. We will continue to come here.
