What can I say about Mr. Chopsticks that hasn't already been said? I'll just let you know what I've been getting for the past 7 or so years... When I'm Sick: Tom Kha Soup- a nice blend of coconut milk with the perfect blend of chicken and onions and mushrooms, with a slightly sour lemon essence that cannot be described, but keeps my sinuses at bay. When I'm hangry: Chicken or Combo fried rice. No one can replicate this amazing smoky fried rice recipe, and I mean no one. When I want something light: Spicy salmon roll, or anything from their amazing sushi menu. When I'm being vegan: Orange tofu fried over brown rice. Simple and tangy, and delicious. When I'm not being vegan: Pork over rice. BBQ and smoky flavor takes your taste buds to new heights. Amazing... I love you and always will Mr. Chopsticks. I'm sad you stopped delivering but it probably saved me a ton of money since I can't hangover call you anymore. Drive thru is a major bonus especially on late work nights when I just want to get home. read more

I love everything about this restaurant as it caters to the college students as it is located right in the middle of 2 big colleges. They serve everything from pho to springs rolls to fresh sushi to brown/steamed/fried rice with chicken, tofu, mongolian beef/chicken or even sauteed vegetables. I tried the mongolian beef(spicy) with brown rice, and I left nothing on the plate. I must have been hungry. Everything about this restaurant is made fresh, and it's delicious. I have mixed feelings about Mr. Chopsticks, Denton's hipster staple for chinese food. I like their super-sweet Thai-tea, their service and their vegetarian options, but it always takes them forever to make the food. And sometimes it seems like they skimp on ingredients or spices. If you go be sure to avoid the rude Pringles-mustached waiter. He laughed at me once when I accidently knocked over a plant and expressed his disgust in having to sweep up the mess. read more

I've been eating here for ten years, and I still love it. I've sampled most of the things on the menu because I always order the daily special, no matter what is. I think the egg drop soup is unique: it's filed with garlic, cilantro, and yumminess. My favorite dishes are the Mongolian, the Jalapeño Pad, the Pad Thai, and basics like shrimp fried rice or sesame chicken. I don't care as much for the sushi here. Wouldn't call this authentic Panasian food but this place certainly gets points for being probably one of the only Asian food offerings in Denton, near UNT campus and TX Presby. The food does cater to the American/Western palate and reminds me Panda Express, heavily sauced, blander/thicker/sweeter. My litmus test for Asian authenticity is typically the number of Asian patrons in the establishment. And nearly everyone was Caucasian. That being said, nearly all the tables were packed during lunch on a weekDAY, despite my personal opinion that the food was mediocre. We had to search for a booth deeper within the back of the restaurant. We tried the pad thai and stir fry shrimp lo mein. Impressed by the sizeable portions, however not so much the one-dimensional taste. Did not get hit with the twang of the lime I was expecting in the pad thai nor could I find the peanuts/bean sprouts! It was eating through a sea of thick, dark orange sauced chicken and thin rice noodles. I enjoyed the spicy kick of the stir fry, but again, reminiscent of a one-dimensional soy sauced dish. I do want to give them credit for the hipster-type environment that they played up. There was interesting cat-themed artwork by C green on the walls as well as the heavily tatooed waitresses. The open window setting was also appealing, however it seemed like the half of the restaurant near the entrance was shrouded in dark lighting. This is a go-to place almost weekly for us. There are tons of vegetarian options, it's quick, it's priced fairly, and the staff is always pleasant. I'm not sure if i like this place or not. Here's my list........ 1.) Food is ok nothing special but I like it every once in a while. 2.) Staff ALWAYS looks like the need massive showers and smell. Sorry but when you look grungy I'm not sure I want you serving my food. 3.) Pretty pricey for the amount of food. 4.) Service again isn't great, slow and just very exasperated. Oh Mr. Chopsticks.... When you do it good, you do it really good. However, my last few visits here have been, well, rather terrifying. I eventually got over the maggot in my take-out edamame (yes, I love you enough to put this aside and eat at your place again), and then I tried a dish that made me extremely grossed out. I blame that on myself I mean, sushi covered in "smelt mayo" should have been the first cue, right? And then this last time you messed up our take-out and I got really, really sick after eating my dish. I'm willing to at least give you 2 stars, and consider changing my review in the future, because you have an amazing rainbow roll. It's on par with some of the specialty sushi restaurants I've visited. Also, the staff is always friendly and does a great job. Please don't fall apart, hang in there guys! I really wanted to like this place. Really badly, I go to UNT and I here good things about them. Plus I love supporting local businesses and their location is convenient, but I have to say I was very disappointed with my order. I decided to do takeout. I ordered sesame chicken and crab rangoons. When I came to pick up my order it was ready and the girl at the register was nice. So far no problems. In fact when I got home I was shocked at how big the takeout boxes were. This was far more than I usually expected to get out of Chinese takeout. However, I tend to prefer quality over quantity and this is where Mr Chopsticks failed. First issue: The sesame chicken was breaded (as usual) but the breading was really soggy and falling off a lot of the chicken. Second Issue: The sauce was not good. My chicken didn't taste like anything. I'm not sure if sesame chicken is just too Americanized, but this dish tasted like watered down soy sauce. Sesame chicken I've had at other restaurants (and heck, even buffets) is always nice and thick, and generally sweet. This sauce was runny and just pooled up in the bottom of the takeout box, I was essentially just eating soggy fried chicken. Third Issue: There were barely any sesame seeds, most of the chicken didn't even have any. This is sesame chicken! There needs to be sesame seeds. Fourth Issue: NO ZUCCHINI!! Their menu lists zucchini as one of the veggies, and there were none in my plate. Speaking of veggies.... Fifth Issue: Here's what Mr Chopstick says sesame chicken includes in their menu, "Choice of breaded meat or tofu, zucchini, carrot, & okra in chili-seared soy sauce topped with sesame seeds". Now when I read this I assumed that only the meat would be breaded, because what type of demon batters carrot???? In the same batter as the meat, so when you eat it it all looks like mushy battered chunks. I assumed that the listed veggies would be stir fried (because who wants battered carrots, that's nasty). So essentially not only did I get gross fried carrots and okra, and gross bland chicken- they also didn't even include zucchini, onions, or sesame seeds. Overall I was just really disappointed with this meal. I doctored up my chicken with sauces, but half of the dish was carrots and that's really disappointing (because who wants to pay $10 for battered carrots---- no one does). The crab rangoons weren't anything special, and there also wasn't much filling so it was mostly fried wanton. I gave 1 star because yelp makes you and for the portion size- if I found a dish that I actually liked and wasn't mostly carrots then this would be a great deal and could feed like 2-3 people. read more

I would eat here twice a week if I could afford to. The service all depends on your waiter so it's really a coin flip, but the food is always good. While not traditional Asian food, the food is still great. I've worked myself into a routine at Chopsticks and almost always go with the General Tso's Chicken (Level III spicy). If you're a fan of spicing up your food, like I am, then be sure to let them know you want it spicier. Without letting the waiter know you'll get the least spicy option, but you can ask for levels 2 and 3 as well. Just don't go to Chopsticks expecting the ordinary, it's more of an Asian fusion type experience and, while being different than the usual, is good in its own way. read more

The noodle dishes (e.g., lo mein) are greasy but delicious. My personal favorite is the grilled BBQ pork. I get it any time it's on the special board. I do miss the adorable elephant shirts. I love oriental cuisine but was not a huge fan of Mr. Chopsticks. Both times I have eaten at Mr. Chopsticks it was relatively warm in the restaurant. We were seated in the side room so that could have been why. I've tried 2 different dishes, sweet and sour chicken definitely better than the orange chicken but didn't love either of them. The egg roll, however, was really good. I heard it has had new management recently and used to be better with the original management. Overall experience was mediocre. It's a place I would never volunteer to eat at but will most likely go again in groups, which is how I have been twice already. read more

It's hard to find good Asian food in the Denton area and so I really wanted to like this place. Instead I was completely disappointed. Service was good, but the food seriously lacked flavor. I ordered what I always get when I have Chinese: General Tso's Chicken. The food came and the sauce was really watery and did not stick to the chicken at all. It overall lacked flavor and the chicken had a weird breading..a lot like chicken tenders do. Oh and I also had an order of steamed potstickers! I wouldn't suggest ever ordering any of their entrees. Every single one I've tried has been mediocre. Their appetizers and sushi are fine, but everything else isn't even worth trying. I got lo mein that was very bland and basically inedible and when I asked my server if I could get something else instead, she said that it couldn't be replaced because there "wasn't anything actually wrong with it." She gave me a look of such judgment and scorn that I went into the bathroom to cry before telling her I didn't even want anything instead anymore (they were going to charge me for a second entree anyway, so why bother)? I even cried again after I left because she made me feel SO awful about admitting my food was of poor quality.. $15 for bad food and to be told that there's nothing wrong with it (if it tastes bland and gross... there's something wrong with it). I've really liked this place for a while but the poor quality of the entrees and the poor service I got today has ruined it for me. I'll likely never come again. I fell in love here. Both with the food and with my husband. We would meet here many times a week for lunch after class. Then it turned in to date night dinners. This is the perfect cheap, casual place with genuinely good food. Awesome Asian beer selection too! They offer so many veggie options, the tempura is to die for. You have to try it! read more

I had high hopes for this place just looking at it from the outside one day while driving by. I've been twice now. First visit (3 days ago), I took to go and the entree (Orange chicken) was almost bland and the flavor it did have was not very good. I only finished eating it because I was hungry and I didn't want to go back out to get something else. Went back today with a co-worker, I believe in second chances. I ordered some sushi and he got some entree I don't remember the name of. He says he won't come back and I have to say I won't give it a third visit. Chairs are stained. Menus haven't been reprinted in who knows how long. Wait staff is ok with customer service. They take forever to bus/clean tables after customers are done. Price is little more than what I would pay for what it taste like but it's average price. This place got a bunch of praise for being the best in Denton in 2012 but somewhere along the lines I guess they lost it. read more

One of my favorite spots for Chinese food in north Texas. The dishes can vary depending on the cook on duty. I tend to order the same thing - General Tso Chicken w fried rice. Each time it is just a little different than the time before. But more times than not, it has been very good. I can really only remember 2 times (out of a couple of dozen visits) when it wasn't. Once it was just a little strange, like the cook used an ingredient that I had never had before and the other time it was so hot that I really could not enjoy it. Now, I like spicy food so when they asked how spicy, I said a 3, expecting the scale to be 1-5. Their scale only goes to 3, so the waiter asked if I was sure. Once I figured out the scale of 1-3 I asked for 2.5 and I think I made the cook mad. It was very spicy. I still love this place and will continue to go back. read more

Food was sub-par with little seasoning and wasn't spicy at all. We came around 30 minutes before closing and after being seated and ordering, screamo music was being blasted from the kitchen. The waiters and hosts were yelling rather obnoxiously and screaming profanity as the music volume fluctuated between quiet moments of relief and roaring unpleasant screams. My Fiancé and I shoveled the bland food down trying to escape the terrifying restaurant. I am saddened to see all the lackuster (or bad) reviews! I eat here frequently and used to frequent the old location in my undergrad years. I have never had a bad experience...food-wise. There have been a few spotty service experiences. I love the spicy mixed vegetables and tofu and also the sesame tofu and veggies rock! I've only been here twice, but the second time was for all of about 5 minutes. The first time I came here, the food was pretty good & I did enjoy the calamari. The second time however, I left very quickly. We sat down at a table, ordered our drinks, and when my boyfriend looked over there was a roach crawling up the wall. Needless to say, we just left. I know I can be pretty picky about cleanliness of restaurants, but roaches are unacceptable. What else is going on that I don't see? I have visited this restaurant 5 times since moving here. I have ordered a variety of items from Sushi, Curry, Pad Thai, Pho etc.. I will start with the Ambiance. Overall the Restaurant is clean and easy to navigate with outdoor dining as well as indoor. The staff is young (I'm assuming college kids) and friendly, very accommodating. The Menu: Lots of options, I think there may be too many options honestly. Overall it's priced right. The Food: There is a inconsistency. The food is not "Authentic " BUT it is obviously made with a lot of heart. My one complaint would be the seasoning, it changes every time I visit. Either there's no flavor or so much jalapeño it overtakes the whole dish. The last time I visited I ordered the Chicken Curry, it had a good flavor but hardly any chicken , mostly consisted of onions. The visit before that , the curry was jalapeño based with huge pieces of chicken that were dry. The Pho needs some work as well. The only flavor was the three jalapeño slices in it. There was no cilantro, hardly any sprouts and barely lemongrass, I felt a little let down. I honestly like the place or I wouldn't keep trying, living around the corner it's nice and convenient. I ordered $50 worth of food and after the first bite I instantly regretted ordering so much food. Everything but the sushi was too salty. I know that Chinese food is supposed to have some salt but it was as if they just loaded my plates with the whole container. I would not be ordering from this place again. Mr. Chopsticks is one of those places that you take out-of-towners once you become a Dentonite. It's some sort of tradition, and one I've suggested many times to friends and family. Truth be told, most of the food at Mr. Chopsticks is hit or miss. I used to order the Orange Chicken/Tofu quite frequently, but it's frustrating. The orange sauce is different every single day. Sometimes it's watery and bland. Sometimes it's thick and sweet. So I stopped ordering it, because it can not be trusted. Then I went on a griller special bender where I continually ordered the shrimp/crab rangoon combo. It's pretty tasty, but it's nothing special since it's frozen/fried. Currently, I'm kind of obsessed with the Philadelphia roll. It's just so good. Creamy and salty and cold. The presentation of their sushi is so much nicer than pretty much any other meal I've ordered there. I live down the street from Mr. Chopsticks, so sometimes we are too tired to cook, so we call in an order. 15 minutes later, we're picking it up and scarfing it down. (Don't tell anyone that we drive less than half a city block to pick up the food and drive it back home though.) read more

Ok...I would eat here every day. I loved the kitschy atmosphere; reminded me of my days in downtown Austin. The service was fast and friendly. The food was excellent. I had the tempura vegetable roll...wonderful. Hubby had the thai pad noodle tofu curry. I tasted it, not usually a fan of that type of dish, and even I liked it. I only have one complaint that I must say needs to be addressed before I do go back and eat there and that is the lamps above the tables need to be dusted....BADLY. I mean in the most, worst possible way. I felt a little uncomfortable eating under all that dust and I didn't notice until I had time to sit around and look while I was waiting for my card to come back to the table for a signature. That was the longest ordeal of the lunch, but a minor irritant. Dust the lamps (an easy closing chore, no doubt) and I'll be back in!! read more
