From rich and smoky to spicy, tangy, creamy, and refreshing. Banjara Tikka brought tender chicken thighs layered with yogurt, fried onion and garlic. Mauryaji Basket Chaat delivered chickpeas, potato, tamarind, mint, pomegranate and a creamy yogurt mousse. The Chicken Seekh Kebab was perfectly seasoned and savory with pickled laccha onion, while the Guntur Chilli Chicken Bao turned up the heat with Guntur red chili, sesame and refreshing beetroot shikanji shots. The vegetarian dishes absolutely held their own as well. Chilli Momo with carrot, sesame and seaweed, came out with a soft, delicate bite and a subtle chew, filled with a lightly spiced vegetable mix that leaned savory and aromatic rather than overpowering heat. The Paneer Makhni was rich, velvety, and deeply comforting. The paneer stayed soft and pillowy, soaking up a buttery tomato-cashew gravy that was slightly sweet, gently tangy, and finished with that unmistakable fenugreek aroma that tied everything together. The mains were just as unforgettable. Laal Maas came in bold and unapologetic. Tender goat slow-cooked until it practically melted off the bone, swimming in a deep, smoky gravy built on mathania chilies that brought slow heat. The Shrimp Malai Curry was the complete opposite in tone. Silky coconut milk wrapped around plump tiger shrimp, with Bengali whole spices adding a gentle sweetness and aromatic depth that made the dish feel light yet indulgent at the same time. And somehow dessert still had room to impress. Rose Kulfi was creamy, floral and sweet without being overwhelming. Drinks included everything from the floral, mezcal-and-rooza Gulabo to Mango Lassi. And as someone who historically doesn't like anything rose flavored, I enjoyed both the drink AND the dessert. Just as good as the food, was the service. No to wanting to sit in a booth (only 2 other tables sitting at the time). He told us there was a reservation for the booth that had no one ever show up for. He said no to adjusting spice level of the biryani from mild to medium. And I couldn't keep up after that but the no's kept coming. It was on the later side, my daughter was hungry so we just stuck with it unfortunately. Food was mediocre. Some good items some worse. The chicken biriyani had way too much masala on the bottom. The ratio was off completely between the rice and chicken. The firey chicken appetizer was good. The chicken tikka masala entrée came out wayyyy too spicy. And my husband loves spicy but he was literally sweating through the meal. The waiter did offer to change it but at that point we wanted to just finish and leave. He did give us 3 of the rose kulfie's to compensate for the u reasonably spicy chicken, which was the best part of the whole meal. The canned and bottled beers were not too far off. The food looked like some supermarket frozen food section stuff. Over priced, over fried and cold in the middle. The music played overhead is early 2000s emo and punk which is cool. But does not fit with the aesthetic of 90s nostalgia. The staff is unprofessional and some rude. Vaping behind the bar, drinking, and taking their time letting lines build up. They also let way too many people in. It came to the point where it felt like you were on the subway going home during rush hour. Shoulder to shoulder, back to back -- not a good feeling at a dive bar. If you're not gonna listen to Drake and drive to the bar -- the parking lot is a single lane joke. Park down one of the side streets.

Because when I search Google Maps for gay bars, whether it's in Iceland or down South, I'm always shocked by the stark lack of LGBTQ venues in the state of New Jersey, or anywhere on Long Island. Sure, there's Fire Island. But not everyone who wants a drag show has the time, money, or whatever to leave town, hop a ferry, and make a whole night of it. Why can't LGBTQ spaces happen -- right down the block from where we live? When I first booked a show here, Chris made sure I knew the place was a little smaller than what I might be used to. Sure, there's not a proper stage or a lighting grid or a smoke machine. But that's what you go to Fire Island for, right? At NuBar, I'm always welcomed so enthusiastically by the staff, and hey there must be a need in the area of LGBTQ spaces, because we always get such a good turnout. And not for nothing, but I've entertained all kinds of audiences (can you believe I actually got Germans to laugh in Berlin???) but when I think of NuBar, I always remember a really warm, friendly, authentic group of people who appreciate the vibe. Queso dip is made in house, which I respect. Loaded potato wontons were a great idea and were probably the best things on the table. You can't go wrong with pretzel nuggets. Chocolate cake is never a bad idea. I ended my visit with a chocolate frog drink. Very similar to an espresso martini. You know how hot they are right now. Some of us got soap and warwax. So fun! It was so good, we are going to try to snag another rez for trivia. Reservations are for 90 minute seatings. This is a great bar. You talk to people, maybe watch a little sports of whatever happens to be on at the time and just enjoy being in the moment with old and new friends. I don't live so close to here so my visits will be infrequent, but I'll definitely try to come back. Only issue is they no longer do the 75 cent tap beer (even though the sign visible from the LIRR still advertises it...) but that's ok. The service and friendly patrons more than made up for it.

Music was legit, the King Cobra layed down some really amazing rockin blues. We saw them one night in January at Big Daddy's and they have become one of our favorite cover bands. Excellent lead guitar and vocals with some superb solo work. Scotty, who we know from another band, Blue Roots, on blues harp, outstanding. Solid bassist and percussionist contributing to solid music. We stayed for 2 of the 3 sets. Lisa E. making rounds and friends throughout the venue. Graciously gave up our table as we said our goodbyes to new acquaintances and headed blissfully home close to 11PM. Solid venue!

His band was great. Our waitress was great. She was busy. She seemed on her own, and the place was pretty crowded. I didn't care for a couple of the bartenders. I thought they were rude so I didn't really pay them any mind and just waited for my waitress to talk to. There's only one bathroom downstairs so sometimes she had to wait in line, but it was easy always people to talk to apparently many years ago was speakeasy so it really kept that great vibe. They have big booths. They kept Fred Astaire on the screen. The music was great great company at the area that it was at and was just fabulous.
