So let me tell you about "Julia & Joe's Tavern". This is Cash Only Pub and has it's own parking lot located in the rear of the building. As you enter, you'll notice that the bar area is positioned on the left hand side of room in a |]-shape. They have about 4 beers on tap, with plenty of bottled beer, canned beer, hard liquors, and wine in-stock. They also have a limited selection of food to select from, such as Sliders, Pizza, Nuts, Chips, Popcorn, Beef Jerky, and Cookies. They offer an ATM, Arcade Game such as Cards, Cigarette Vending Machine, Dart Board, Multiple TV's, Pool Table, Touchtunes, and they play QuickDraw here, with separate restrooms for men and women. Occasionally, they'll have Karaoke Night and they're apart of The Amateur Pool Association. They even have outdoor seating in the back with tables and chairs, for those who like to smoke. In addition to a Basketball Backboard and a scale to weight yourself for some odd reason. This place has a fun atmosphere about it and is worth checking out. Thanks to Kelly, who was The Bartender today.

Thanks for the good time JJ's!

The best part about this place was the DJ! I think he's there on Fridays. If so, I highly recommend coming on a Friday night. Not sure what happens on other nights. While all of the servers were very friendly, the actual service was scattered. We had multiple different people tending to us and it was a bit all over the place. The food was meehhh. Not terrible but not great. We came at around 11. So maybe I'll come earlier and on a different to see what the experience is like.

This place is beautiful - unfortunately, I was there to early for the DJ (as I keep seeing reviews…read moreabout how great he is) there is also an outdoor area, which of course was to cold to enjoy this visit. The owner was our server and she was very sweet and welcoming. She gave us a rundown of the menu and everything she described sounded amazing, however the food did not live up to the hype - the portions were small, and the flavor was lacking. We ordered a round of drinks - which also fell flat. Not 1 person ordered 2nd drink - after my appetizer (jerk chicken wontons) I wasn't interested in anything else. Someone ordered a skirt steak entree which was so small - the prices def don't match portion sizes - hate this is a neighborhood spot that I'll probably never go to again

That being said, parking around here is generally not great and make sure you look out for a few scattered no parking signs! Wait staff was friendly and very helpful, although a little bit slow to get us our food it seemed. Getting to the food though, we had the soft pretzel, beef nachos, and mozzarella sticks to start. Nothing that would blow your socks off, but good quality bar snacks for sure. As for dinner I had their signature which is LARGE and IN CHARGE while my girlfriend had the all dya egg sandwich, each with a side of fries. I think everything could have used a bit more salt, and that is coming from someone with a salt sensitive pallete, but also shockingly, I think the oddball of the egg sandwich was actually the star of the show, but maybe that is just the Long Islander in me talking. Although I just stuck to tried and true coors light, the cocktails looked good and didn't skimp on the pours, which is always a plus. The real attraction of this place though is the nautical charm right along the canal. Hell, if you have a boat, you can even dock right on the premise and likely have a better shot of finding a spot there than on the street for your car. The vibe was chill with some live music playing too, but not too loud where you wouldn't be able to just chat with friends comfortably. Definitely a place I'd look to come back to for hanging out, especially if you've got a nice day on your hands.

We were greeted by our waitress & seated immediately. Our waitress was quite attentive. She was a pleasure to have around, I forget her name but she's a petite woman with long black hair. There were only two other tables occupied at that time and a few ppl at the bar. First impression, a nice cozy restaurant full of bold colorful decor, nice sized bar, maybe 5-6 sections in total. Drinks: the passion fruit margarita was amazing! I love that they used fresh fruit in the drink. My father enjoyed a coconut drink and sister had a spicy margarita. All delicious My nephews did not enjoy the lemonade (not sweet) or sweet tea (also not sweet). Also, there is only one choice for the kids' menu so we ordered chicken fingers and fries for my 5 y/o nephew. FYI per the waitress every dish is cooked to order so be prepared to wait Appetizers: I wanted the cod fish fritters but was informed they were no longer available and will be removed from the menu. We ordered the trio of empanadas which consisted of 1 cheese, 1 chicken, & 1 beef. My hungry teenager devoured the meat ones and I split the cheese one with my nephew. All tasty, no complaints. Dinner: I ordered the passion fruit (wild caught) salmon served over shredded collard greens & yucca mash (small portion but full of flavor sorry forgot to take photo). Every one else ordered a beef meal and were pleased. FYI: gratuity was included on the bill, she deserved every $$. The owners did not come over to greet us but the waitress did an amazing job checking on us non stop and making sure drinks were refilled and plates were removed in a timely manner.

The tavern was decorated for Halloween. It looked great! Our waitress, Kenzie, was super. She was so friendly, attentive, funny and very informative. I asked about an IPA and she said the Bronx IPA was the one to have. I asked if I could try one, she brought me a sample. It was excellent, so I ordered a pint. We talked and enjoyed each other's company. There was no rush, which we all appreciated. The girls said the bathrooms were spotless and very clean. We all ordered their famous French Onion Soup Hamburger with melted Swiss cheese, tomato, lettuce, and red onions topped with their special sauce (French onion soup). The hamburger was delicious cooked to perfection, and the French fries were hot and tasty. My wife loves this restaurant! She said, "This was the best hamburger I have ever had! They were really good! No kidding. We all decided on dessert, so we all had the chocolate lava cake with vanilla ice cream for dessert. It was so delicious! Wow! Great culinary experience, great food and great service and a very enjoyable time with my family and friends. If you're near Massapequa Park, the Dark Horse Tavern is a must. Enjoy your family and friends every chance you get. Safe travels and stay healthy. See you soon. All the best to you and your families! Happy Halloween!
