Mr. Bao took my soup dumpling virginity. So let's get into it shall we? This was a delivery order so unfortunately I did not remember to take a pic before I started eating, I do have a few leftover dumplings though so maybe I'll update this later. I've been wanting to try soup dumplings for quite some time now, it just so happens that I am very much a homebody and rarely go out anymore. I've been discovering a lot of new places on Ubereats. Sometimes, you have to manually search for something on the app for ALL of the possible options to actually show up and last night when I searched up Dan Dan noodles, this place popped up. With a deal I might add, "Spend $20, Save 10." I'd never seen it before yesterday and it never came up when I had searched the 'Latest Deals' section so I was pretty excited. They had Dan Dan noodles on the menu so I got them obviously and an order of pork and crab soup dumplings. I did search through this Yelp page before placing the order, the noodles looked pretty good. Lots of reviews said the dumplings were great so I had high hopes. Like I said before, this was my first time having soup dumplings so I don't have anything to compare it to. HOWEVER, the broth in the dumplings was extremely similar to every chicken rice soup broth I've had from countless Chinese takeout spots. If that's what it's supposed to taste like, then they did what needed to be done. But if I'm being completely honest, I felt that the flavor was extremely tame and basic. The filling also looked like mostly pork. Blue crab has a distinct flavor, I could not place it at all. Idk what I was expecting but I feel like I just wanted more flavor all around. The Dan Dan noodles needed better and more thoughtful packaging, kind of like ramen. I did not eat them right away and had to heat them up in the microwave. They put the noodles and the meat sauce in the same container so I had to heat it up that way. It was either my microwave that overcooked them or the restaurant but either way, they were a little too mushy for me. I like a little bite and bounce to my noodles. The ground pork had a really nice flavor to it though, I just probably wouldn't order again because I prefer Dan Dan ramen. I definitely would order from them in the future but I'd like to stick to their dumplings and such. read more

I was so hungry so I decided to get the braised beef rice bowl, popcorn shrimp and the chef mix of dumplings. Everything came carefully packaged and was still hot when it arrived. Went to this place for a quick lunch this week! I ordered the pork and chive pan-fried dumplings and duck wrap. The dumplings were good and the vinegar soy sauce was delicious. The duck wrap was very small, more of an egg roll size than a beef roll size I was expecting, and was $9. All very very oily but the wrap especially was very oily. Mr. Bao intentionally uses their own delivery drivers instead of Uber Eats. To all business owners out there, this experience is the reason why you want to consider using people who actually know what they're doing for your logistics. We ordered at 7:40pm and given a window of 8:20 to 8:40pm. At 8:45pm, no sign of food so we called and were told that it was out for delivery, which is fine, things happen. At 9:05pm we called, looking for the food, and were told it would be here in 10 minutes (the store is only a 10m bike ride from us). The person giving the status update was in the store with them (we overheard their conversation) which of course means it wasn't out for delivery at all. At 9:30, still no food in sight, we called again, and were told that they gave it to another delivery driver and would call us when they had an ETA. Then, just now at 9:48pm they called us and asked us to confirm that we cancelled our order, which of course we hadn't. Then the delivery guy asked us "if I show up will you come down and get the food" to which we were first puzzled, but then after arguing with the guy about how intercoms in NYC work, we said, just call this number when you get here and we'll come down. I wish I could tell you how the food actually is, but it is now 9:56pm and we're still waiting for it. Update: 10:04pm, Food finally arrives. Cold, congealed noodles, fried popcorn shrimp is soggy. Need to recook everything because its clearly been sitting out for the last 2 hours. Wish they had been honest with us about the status, because we would have made alternate arrangements, but they kept telling us it would be there soon. read more

Lady at the counter on Sunday 12:30pm 9/24 was rude. Gave me the stink eye the second I went for my to go order as if I was a bother. When I got my order she practically dropped the bag on the table couldn't wait to look away. Sorry if me coming in to place a takeout order offended you Bathrooms should also be provided for the dine in folks per the other reviews. There was a sign there saying that the bathrooms are for employees only. I've been coming here since they opened. This place is going downhill. The food quality has gone down. I was so so stoked to try this new soup dumpling place out, but unfortunately, it just didn't live up to what I was expecting. So let me start by saying that I get new restaurants go through growing pains. I really do. That said, when you first open and you get your first wave, you have to (like really really really have to be prepped for it). We stopped by at 8:30 and they said they couldn't take our order. And to try again later. Not a great start. We ended up giving up and trying again the next day (excitement for soup dumplings growing). Then we finally got to try the food, and....eh. soup dumplings were so frigging thick. Just didn't do it for me. The fried dumplings were markedly better, but that's only by comparison to the soup dumplings. There are better ones to be had in the city, thought admittedly none as close to this part of town. The beef rice bowl also left a lot to be desired in my book. The beef was tough and salty, but the side string beans were pretty on point. All in all, place is just ok. Finalllly!!!! This was the only thing park slope was missing...a delicious, shanghainese dumpling and way more place! Superior to joe's Shanghai in Chinatown....fast delivery, and appealing presentation....there's no ugly-delicious here...it's pretty-delicious. Very great addition to the neighborhood! Soup dumplings are hard to come by, and these are a great choice if you can't make it to Chinatown. Their dumplings were GREAT! Spring rolls were on point. Had their pork belly bowl and their 48hr braised beef bowl. Pork belly was excellent!! and the soft boiled egg was aesthetically pleasing and the perfect consistency. But their 48hr braised beef bowl leaves a lot of room for improvement. I felt like they used the wrong part of the beef to braise, maybe a part with more tendon or fat would be better, otherwise, too lean part of the beef braised for too long comes out really dry and tough. The side of cabbage that came with it was also lacking in flavor and texture. It seems like they may have boiled the cabbage instead of sauteed it, no garlic flavor, no salt, just.. boiled it. Updateeeee... This spot continues to be so solid and deserves alllll the business. Tried their popcorn shrimp, chicken pocket sandwich and fried ManTou.... ugh it's all so good. Popcorn shrimp is not spicy so if you're spice averse you'll be fine. It's def full of flavor though. The chicken pocket is sooo good. Comes with two "halves" of something pita like, filled with popcorn chicken, spicy aioli, cucumber, and onion. The fried ManTou are like little fried donut bites, but a little more sponge cake like in texture. And with the condensed milk? Heaven. Only rec is I wished they'd give a bigger side of it, the sauce container was only like 1/4 filled for 6 "donuts" but if you need dessert with every meal like I do a definite order. This spot is small but has backyard seating. The dumplings came with a sauce that has a vinegar taste but it's delicious and compliments the meat inside. The bowls are perfect portions, they look like a lot of food but it fills you up to be comfortably full without having to let your pants out. We ordered the blue crab & pork soup dumpling, the chef's mixed platter, also got 2 of the rice bowls - the pork and the beef. The pork belly was better than the beef for sure. Ordered a bunch of stuff. What shines are the popcorn chicken, dumplings and baos. Not surprising. The soup dumplings are flavorful. The wrapping is on the thicker side. Some love that. Some don't. The soy sauce with vinegar had a nice bite with bits of ginger as expected. They provided excellent packaging which is a huge plus for the soup dumplings. Thank you for the high quality disposable dishes and utensils that even include a soup spoon! The only dish I was disappointed with was the braised kalbi beef. While the marinade tasted right, the cut of the beef is wrong. They used cheaper beef stew cuts which is problematic if you're going to call a dish kalbi. Kalbi must use short ribs. It's supposed to be rich and fatty. Full stop. For 13 dollars, I should have known better. Short ribs are expensive and there's no way you can buy true kalbi for that cheap. Otherwise, the egg was boiled for me which is a little odd as Koreans only do that for cold noodle dishes like naengmyun but I guess this is a fusion shop. I think the rest of the menu is probably pretty solid. Just avoid the kalbi dish if you are expecting something leaning towards the authentic side. read more
