    Tangy BBQ empanada
    Luis M.

Love stopping by here anytime I bring my car to the dealership nearby. The empanadas are the best I've found in DC, after living in Miami for 18 years. Martie and Juan were friendly and brought my food out quickly!

A nice little place with decent options to choose from. The staff are friendly and welcoming, in a nice, cozy setting. There's not a lot of free parking right outside but given the size of the establishment, I wouldn't see any issues. There's a wide variety to choose from and the ones my wife and I had were very good. They were cooked well, with a wonderful crust. Together we tried the Bombay, chili chicken, chicken little, and sort of a shepherd pie, finding all had great flavor. I also chased mine down with a horchata that was very good.

Delicious variety of empanadas from Mpanadas!

Mpanadas was incredibly generous in donating empanadas to our school, and we couldn't be more grateful. Everything was prepared and ready for pickup right on time, which made the process smooth and stress-free. The staff was exceptionally friendly, helpful, and accommodating throughout. Their kindness and support truly made a difference for our school community. Highly recommend Mpanadas!

I am a big supporter of Columbia Pike restaurants as they run the range from Bolivian salteňas to Ethiopian cafes and Afghan kabobs. Mpanadas is a tastefully decorated cafe that is light and airy, with very cute tables and chairs decorated with geometric patterned fabrics. The empanadas themselves are very tasty and are stuffed to the brim with both traditional and unique flavors. Probably my favorite was the chicken chili - surprisingly spicy with just the right amount of heat. With that being said, I wish the empanadas were not frozen at the point of ordering, which then requires a reheating time of about 5 minutes. The loyalty program also seemed complicated and prone to errors as the two customers ahead of me had to have issues resolved with their order because of it. I was disappointed to see that there are no longer any paletas but there are Firenze ice cream, including a chili mango sorbet flavor. It's good, but a bit pricey at $9.95 for a cup. Overall, I really want to like this place and the empanadas are undeniably tasty, but the service model and cooking time could use perhaps a rethink. Will definitely be back to try the new line of lattes but I think the empanadas if they could be fresh or heated and ready to go would be a bigger draw for me.

Favorite "hidden" gem ever! The employees are always so sweet and knowledgeable of the menu with suggestions as needed. Honestly, the size and sweetness of the dough is just perfect. The sauces are a good addition, but not a must have, which is rare. Can't wait to visit again!

OK, so I've been obsessed with this place for a minute. At this point, I've tried so many of their empanadas. I love the pizza empanada that they have sometimes. It taste like a big pizza roll and is honestly so delicious. Another one I enjoy is the beef papa. The Havana empanada is on my list. For an empanada, you're looking at paying about $3.50 to $5 dollars. Sometimes, there are deals where you can get a couple for a bit cheaper. They are absolutely worth the price. They are often super full and the shell is delightful. I also really enjoy their sauces. The green is my personal fave. It gives cool, tzatziki meets cilantro vibes, and the red one is also delicious but a bit spicier. I also love the coffees and beverages here. I had a really good lemonade over the summer. I can't remember exactly what type it was, but it was the perfect blend of tart and sweet. There or Chata latte is definitely one of the better ones I've ever had, too. On top of that, the service here is incredible. I've met a couple of the owners and they are great. Additionally, the other staff members are very nice and go out of their way to help people. One day, I even watched as an employee brought a customers empanadas outside after some random old man hit their car in the parking lot and took off without even leaving a note. I would highly recommend checking out their social media as that is where they typically will let you know about different specials and things. They have different Monday and Wednesday deals seemingly all the time, so check them out. The vibe inside is also very chill. They have Wi-Fi that works well, so it's a great place to take meetings and catch a legit Café vibe. I have yet to try the ice cream and/or paletas. I'll definitely be back for those.

I love empanadas, and these are soooo wonderful. I love that they offer a variety of flavors and they stamp the name of the flavor on each one. That's such a thoughtful touch. I ordered the chicken little, cheeseburger, Philly cheesesteak, and the chili chicken. They all tasted really good. The breading of the empanadas had like a sweet flavor that goes well with the filing. These taste baked. They are a great size as well. Mpanadas is very aesthetically pleasing, it's very cute, warm, and welcoming. The seating is very comfortable. It's definitely worth taking the trip down on Columbia Pike, which is forever under construction lol.

    Awesome tasting empanadas! Must tries!

When you walk in, the enviro is cute and casual! Fantastic customer service!! Alexis and Juandi are great!! The food excellent! I love everything we ordered. Specifically the Beef Papa, the Chorizo Ranchero, and the Bombay empanadas! They have lovely specials for grouped buys. Their coffee options are delicious! They also have a wonderful dessert empanada, called Havana!! Definitely worth a visit! I promise it won't be your last!!

UberEats review: Where has this place been all of my life? I'm serious when I say that as a New Yorker, it has been hard to find quality empanadas since moving to the area. Well, after randomly searching UberEats, I found this place for breakfast and my life has been changed. I ordered the breakfast special: 2 empanadas with coffee ($15) I ordered both the maple bacon and chorizo ranchero. Both packed wildly different flavors and both were incredibly delicious. The maple bacon brought a sweet and savory balance with just the right portion of bacon and eggs. There is a very subtle yet delicious sweetness to each bite and the eggs top off the experience with added fluffiness. The empanada dough, talk about buttery soft! It literally melted in my mouth before chewing it. My favorite of the 2 was the chorizo ranchero. This empanada can only be described as savory in each bite. There was a mixture of potatoes, eggs, and chorizo, all meshed together to satisfy your mouth upon first bite. Again, the empanada dough was buttery soft. Would I try them again? ABSOLUTELY! Sign me up for more! Well packaged and handled with care-I cannot wait to order again and visit them in person.

This is a very cozy and quaint coffee shop selling a variety of delicious empanadas, coffee, tea, gelato, and small snacks. The atmosphere is charming and welcoming. The empananda menu is pretty extensive offering traditional like chorizo and creative like french toast. They are priced at about 5.50 each. Service is polite. They do a great job at describing items if you have any questions. Highly recommend.

Service was great but the food was greater! Cashier has lots of good recommendations. The prices are okay with 1 empanada for 5.80. Recommend this spot if you're in the area. Vibe was amazing it gives old school cafe with a llama twist!

    Vanilla Bean Gelato
    Angel B.

I really enjoyed my first visit to Mpanadas, and had to make another visit to try more of the delicious gelato during this warm weather. Last time I was able to try out the pistachio and dark chocolate (which was my favorite), so this time I got the vanilla bean. The flavor was a good choice since it was overpowering (just light and refreshing); it was the perfect treat to cool me down! I'll have to stop by again to try more menu items.

The storefront is very tiny, but super cute. I got the spinach and artichoke and tangy BBQ. Both were very good on it's own. They gave the option of mild and spicy and I got one of each. The mild sauce was a creamy salsa with a hint of green and the spicy one was creamy with a hint of red. Both of them tasted very light, it's an ok addition for maybe the meat options? I did not like them at all with the spinach and artichoke. But it was tasty with the pulled pork one. I loved the dough it wasn't hard and cooked to perfection, most of the time when get empandas they are very hard on the outside, however they are cooking these, they are doing it right. The shell has a sweetness to it that i enjoy. Like most Bolivian Saltenas, so good. The spinach and artichoke one was sooooooo good, it was a perfect balance of spinach to artichoke. Right amount of cheese and so flavorful. The BBQ one was good too, juicy and not dry. However this one was perfect with the sauces. The mild had a little tiny level 1 spice and the hot one had a level 3 spice. I could honestly do both without the sauces, but they were good. l love that you don't have to play a guessing game with the emanadas. They are stamped with ink into the dough! Love that idea! I will be back to try more as well as their paletas and Gelato. I did not get any frozen desserts as I don't eat fast enough before it melts, so i opted for the horchata iced latte with oat milk. This one was a 1/5, as it was not great:( Very light in flavor almost just a cinnamon touch. No horchata to it at all... The entire road is being disrupted by construction and it's a pretty busy road, hopefully the get that taken care of soon. I feel bad for the business. Parking can be a hassle so be prepared for that and people who cannot park. I shall be back soon and stop by again!

What are the ingredients in the mild and spicy sauces? The vegan empanadas were great, but I forgot to verify if the sauces that came with them are also vegan... out of caution, I didn't eat them.

Thank you for your question, the salsas are vegetarian not vegan. They contain mayonnaise which is made from egg yolks. However, that is the only animal product in the sauce. Hope that helps!

I ordered the chicken enchiladas, a meat pie and a side of refried beans; hubby got two pupusas - bean/cheese and pork/bean. We also got refrescas, I got the melon/pina and he got tamarindo. The melon one was delish, mostly canteloupe flavor. The tamarindo was a little tart for me but still good. Important to know (and I did) but enchiladas at a Salvadoran place are not the same as Mexican or Tex-Mex enchiladas; they're what Mexican cuisines would call tostadas. Chicken, cabbage, cheese, a tomato slice, and a slice of hard boiled egg on a deep fried corn tortilla. These were delicious and the favorite part of my meal. I was worried that pickled cabbage would over power the other flavors but it didn't. They were great. The refried beans were so-so, I probably would skip them next time and the side portion is tiny. The meat pie was great though, I would get that again too. I had a bite of one of my husband's pupusas and it was good but I liked my enchiladas better. The prices here are extremely inexpensive. Our whole dinner was like $20 plus tax/tip I think. That's almost unheard of. The main issue is that they brought my food out very fast and then another 20 minutes til my husband got his. They could work a bit on timing orders a bit better. I shared, fear not, but orders should come out together. It's not a huge deal but an area for improvement.
