Was staying at the Sandman Hotel and this Moxies is built right into the hotel which is so cool. Especially during the winter. Just take the elevator down from your room and walk a carpeted hall to the restaurant. Nicely appointed and attractively staffed as with all Moxies. The restaurant is connected to the Sandman Hotel which just off the QEW. The restaurant has two sections: regular restaurant seating and bar/lounge seating. There are two huge outdoor patios. I ordered the Blackened Mahi Mahi ($32.75). It is from their winter menu. It had just the right amount of spicy. The fish was plentiful and flakes. The entire dish was so delicious I would order it again. It is a Cajun spiced Mahi Mahi, Chorizo sausage & corn hash, buttered mash potatoes, salsacado, chimichurri.and greens. The hash was surprisingly good also. I also had a glass of Coke ($4.25). I wasn't made aware that the Coke was refillable until after I paid. The waiter offered me another glass so I accepted. Service is prompt and courteous. The washrooms are surprisingly modern. There is free WiFi (but the internet seems down when I was there). The restaurant is wheelchair accessible. Moxie's is like your go to a little more upscale chain restaurant. Good atmosphere, great staff, and decently priced food. I had the blackened shrimp tacos, which were a bit spicier than I was expecting but was good overall; my boyfriend had the mango chipotle chicken which was shockingly both of our favourites out of what we both ordered. Our waiter was very attentive and friendly, and you could tell that he actually cared about us as customers and made more than small talk with us which is always nice. The restaurant was quiet for a Thursday night at 5:30pm, but no complaints about that, just an observation. Altogether, a good place for a weeknight dinner date. read more

I stopped in during Happy Hour on my way home from Toronto. Service was fast and friendly. My chili lime margarita was great. Tasted like a regular margarita but with a kick. I also had an order of truffle Parmesan fries with lemon garlic aioli, and calamari and shrimp with a spicy mayo and garlic aioli. The fries were great. My Wife and I visited this location on Tues, 9th of Sept. at about 4:30 PM. We ordered the 7oz Beef Tenderloin, which came only with carrots and beets. @ $53. When the meal arrived I was amazed that they could call mine a Beef Tenderloin, wish i could post the picture of it & carrots, a disgrace! Looked like a burnt Sausage! ever thing was cold, ordered some butter for Pot, and they bought a slice of hard butter, that would not melt! I went for dinner one night and lunch the next day and both times experienced terrible service. The service was extremely slow throughout the first night for dinner. Our server barely checked on us and I ended up clearing our table myself of empty glasses and dishes to the bar because she didn't seem to think that was part of her job. The bar was also "backed up" and we waited almost 15 minutes for our first drinks. For lunch I sat at my table for 10 minutes before a server came to help me. Greg was our lovely server for the evening and it was such a great end of the day sit down restaurant after a long day sightseeing at the Canada side of Niagara Falls. I've always been a fan Moxie's but having to travel far to go to a location was such a hassle so I'm glad there's one so close to home. We came to the restaurant on a Tuesday evening with a party of 6 and no reservations but because it was pretty quiet, it took almost no time to get a table. The young lady who greeted us very nice and friendly, sadly I didn't get her name. When we did get our table, our waiter Bryce came to greet us almost right away. The whole time he was very kind and attentive to our needs. Although he had made a minor mixup with one order he was quick to resolve the very minor issue. We had gone to dinner with my younger cousin who has a very bad peanut allergy and we made sure to let Bryce know. One thing I truly appreciate is how the manager came to us personally to let us know that his meal would be cooked separately so there was no cross contamination. Not a lot of restaurant managers would take the time out to come and let us know directly. To eat I had Mango Chicken that came with quinoa and roasted red peppers and green beans. This was a recommended dish that went great with the bottle of red house wine- specifically Cabernet Sauvignon- we ordered. When you first see the plates dish, you assume you'd finish it all in a flash but it was perfectly filling. Not to the point I was worn out but just perfect. I didn't order a dessert but my mom( the birthday girl) was able to pick out completely complimentary. I like how they gave her the option rather than bringing her one randomly. She chose the Flourless dark chocolate cake which she said was delicious considering she's doing the KETO diet right now. They then wrote "Happy Birthday" on it that was very cute. I tried Moxie's this weekend for the first time with my family. The restaurant is very nice looking and clean, however we found it pretty cold but it was not a huge deal. Our server was very attentive and professional. I ordered the open faced steak sandwich with fries. My parents ordered a burger and a blackened chicken burger both with fries as well. We had a calamari to start. The calamari wasn't anything special- somewhat bland, however there wasn't really anything to complain about. Our entrees were served and I noticed that my steak was particularly thick for a steak sandwich. I would have assumed it would have been a thinner cut steak or it would have been sliced nicely. It would have been okay if the steak was very tender. However, it was very tough and almost choked on it at one point. I also asked for my steak cooked medium- however it was medium-rare. It was not possible to eat it as an "open face sandwich". If I would have tried to eat the steak and the bread at the same time I would have surely choked. They also said on the menu that it came with arugula on top- however there were only two incredibly tiny pieces of it. I will say that the crispy onions on top were good though- but how could one even mess that up? My parents meals were "okay" they said. They weren't very good though. The fries we all had also were not great- I've had way better fries elsewhere. I definitely think I could have made the same meals at home and they would have tasted way better. I won't be going back. Not worth the price for that quality of food. There are many other local/independent restaurants in Hamilton that are way better. Also would have been nice if they would have provided paper straws instead of plastic. Not a major issue of course but would have been nice for them to follow other restaurants examples in being more sustainable. read more

Atmosphere is amazing whether you are in the lounge or dining room. I can't wait for the patio to open. A regular stop for me, the staff is energetic and totally engaged. The General Manager Jake D is very approachable and totally accommodating. I have tried almost everything on the menu. Apps fish tacos, dry ribs and Nashville hot chicken are to die for. Not to mention the fresh guacamole done at your table in a stone bowl. Caesar Salad is my favourite along with the many heartwarming soups created by Chef Ian. Any steak is a great steak, always prepared perfect and succulent. Pastas, burgers and hand helds also a good option when you want to try something different. The staff provide such a welcoming atmosphere no matter the time of day or how busy they may be. They're upbeat, professional, attentive and friendly without exception. If I could give this place a 0 I would, just because of how poor the service was that I experienced tonight. Let me just start this off by saying that I have been going to Moxie's for years, at multiple locations, and this one by far had the WORST service. And I have been to a Moxie's where I once found a hair in my salad, and that was not even this location. I will just list all of the experiences that occurred in our 2 hours here - Upon entering into the EMPTY restaurant the hostess appeared inconvenienced that we wanted a table for 8, even though there was nobody inside the restaurant. She then took 20 minutes to readjust tables for us to sit in. - In total our meal took an hour and a half to come out, and if the restaurant was busy maybe I could excuse this, but we were only one of 3 tables that night... - During our time waiting for the waiters to serve us, and ask us what we would like to order, we would see them sitting in a booth at the back of the restaurant playing on their laptops and phones while drinking ciders. - It took 45 minutes to be asked what our order was. - While waiting for our order to be served, during this time our food was waiting on the counter next to the waiters getting cold and NOT being served to us, while they continued to drink their ciders on the job and also napping in the booth in the back - They apparently ran out of vegetables to put in our rice bowl which we were told 30 minutes after we had ordered it - When we asked for drink refills they forgot that we had requested coke and ginger ale, and instead brought us warm water - The fish taco was comparable to "licking a farm animal", and I can't blame the waiter for that one but if the restaurant was empty I don't really understand how the staff in the kitchen really could have screwed up something as simple as a fish taco and make it taste VERY far from the sea - After we had finished our meal it then took an additional 30 minutes to receive the bill as well - I would just like to say that our waitress was a very kind girl and really tried her best to go out of her way to serve us and correct the mistakes of her coworkers. I hope she finds a job at another establishment because this one is clearly not run well and she is far too professional to be working here. The slogan for this restaurant is "this MUST be the place" and after my experience tonight I can most definitely say that this is NOT the place. read more

Sure, it was Saturday night but I wasn't at a club, I wanted to actually talk to my friends and I couldn't hear them. Why the heck would the music be so loud??
