I have stayed at a grand total of four different Four Points hotels in my life, which includes my…read moremost recent visit to Hamilton. Sadly, my experience wasn't as wonderful as the others.
This hotel is located by the waterfront, just off the QEW. I got to the hotel at around 7 pm on a Friday night. There was plenty of parking.
I had an excellent check-in experience. The woman at the front desk was amazing. Even though I wanted points instead of breakfast, she gave me a voucher to give breakfast at the restaurant a try. She thanked me for being an elite member, which is customary and a nice touch, and sent me on my way with a couple of room cards.
Although not the fault of the hotel, I could hear screaming children when I was in the elevator going up at around the fifth floor. I was on the top floor, which is the seventh. It was super loud when the door opened. Screaming kids and chatting adults greeted me. It was a bad sign.
Why do families enjoy standing outside their rooms and chatting? I'd estimate that ten people, including three kids, were all staring at me. Um, I wasn't expecting an audience, let alone an extended family. I had to look down at one child who was blocking my way. I'm sorry, but I really don't want to roll my luggage over you. His father actually had to tell him to move. It's common sense that people get on and off elevators. How about clearing the doors? It wasn't the best introduction to this hotel!
Since that hallway encounter, intermittent conversations and running races took place in the hallway, including one well past midnight. I made a note that coming here during the Family Day long weekend isn't the best.
I left the front desk know. The woman apologized. I ended up getting breakfast vouchers. They were delivered to my room the following day.
The room looked clean. Upon further inspection, some things weren't clean. A white hand towel in the bathroom that you'd expect would be clean had a purple makeup stain on it. As much as I love purple, I don't love it on white towels that are expected to be white and I haven't touched them.
When you stay at a Four Points hotel, you get a robe to wear for your entire stay. Well, mine had a long blonde strand of hair on it. Eww! I have dark hair. I know that this strand of hair did not belong to me.
I expected housekeeping to clean my room during my three-day stay. My room was never cleaned. I did not waive that service off. I didn't have the do-not-disturb sign on my doorknob for my entire stay. I didn't get it. I was too congested to deal with that. I am thankfully not a slob, but the recycling bin could have been emptied once.
The television worked and I enjoyed watching various shows during my stay. The shower was great, as it helped temporarily ease my sinus congestion. The bed was comfortable. I had enough hangers in the closets for my clothes. The wifi worked well. No complaints here!
I am always pleased when there's a mini fridge in a hotel room. I had food and pop nicely stored and chilled in it. The room also has a microwave, which I appreciated.
I enjoyed breakfast downstairs. I had this blue crab scramble and it was excellent. I loved it so much that I ordered the same meal the next day before I checked out and headed home. Staff at the restaurant treated me well. On weekends, breakfast is served from 7 till 11 am. On Monday, it starts at 6:30 am and ends at 10 am.
Frankly, staff at this hotel were top notch. When I asked the woman at the front desk the night before I was checking out if I could stay until 2 pm, she immediately said yes. I liked that.
The hotel is decent. It needs help with its housekeeping routine and cleanliness. I imagine that it's better when it's not a long weekend.
