    Chicken meatballs
    Riley D.

This place was great. We originally had a reservation at another restaurant but I'm really glad we ended up here. Ordered the chicken meatballs, and the dumplings to start. They were fantastic. Then had the ribeye with frites as a main. Here's why it's getting 4 stars instead of 5: The restaurant is based around sharing, and they say that when you sit down. However, the menu isn't really laid out for sharing and can be pretty confusing. SO here's my tip... order at least 3 things for 2 people and share. We thought the ribeye would be big but it was probably only 6oz and the fries were small. It's DEFINITELY a sharing restaurant. Do keep in mind, everything tasted amazing.

I came with 2 friends on Thursday night. The place was busy but not crowded. It seems like there are lots of returning customers. The menu is quite small with less than 10 items. The first few things were snack sized to share and there were 2 main entree sized items at the bottom. They also had a $10 cocktail special from 5-9 on Thursdays. Its a little bit more pricey so it doesn't really attract the student crowd. We started with the tuna crudo, the crispy chicken and the lamb croquette. I really liked all 3 but especially the tuna and lamb. Then we had one of the entree sized items, the lettuce pulled pork. It came with sides of kimchi, pickle, and a ginger sauce. I didn't love the pork but I liked the sides. For drinks, I had the red sangria and my friend had the daiquiri. They were both really tasty and they did not cheap out on the booze. Service was really nice from beginning to end. Carl was very knowledgeable about the menu.

    Apologies for the terrible quality

I came here once shortly after they first opened. I want went with a large party, and I got to try all of their vegetarian menu items. Their items were unique and had a variety of flavours, and was definitely good. The menu is also very interesting - rather than ordering one main, customers order multiple appetizer-sized dishes. Typically, people order 2 dishes per person. The food was still expensive, and had very small portion sizes. I came at a busy time (an evening shortly after they opened), so the atmosphere is busy and the seating was a bit cramped. The service was still good, even with the busyness. P.S. apologies for the terrible quality picture, it was the only one I could find

Mushroom Dumplings - I'd skip it next time

With a red brick wall, modern lighting, green succulent plants, and comfy booths, Berkeley North is nicely decorated and has a casual atmosphere. They have an interesting selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, and there are half off deals almost everyday. Around 5:30 pm on a weekday night, the place didn't seem too busy, then more people started coming in as time passed and the restaurant became full after 6 pm. We ordered Teriyaki Eggplant, Mushroom Dumplings, Shrimp Tempura and Rib-eye Steak, and as two tiny people, we were more than full by the middle of last dish. We started with Mushroom Dumplings and it was nothing special. I wouldn't order it again. I liked the next dish, Teriyaki Eggplant. It was crispy, sweet and sticky with peanuts. It was the best dish for me. I would be careful in eating this dish, because it really sticks in your teeth. Shrimp Tempura was great. It's a tasty combination with the mayo. Lastly, I really enjoyed the fries that came with the Rib-eye Steak. The waitress told us that the steak would be cooked rare to medium and though I was warned before ordering the dish, I'd prefer more medium to well-done steak. At least my hubby loved every bite of the steak. The service was attentive and friendly. Overall, Berkeley North was a pleasant place to dine in and maybe I'd try their sandwiches next time.

This place was very cute. Quaint and clean, cozy with many decorative real succulent plants all over (very aesthetically pleasing. While the menu is brief, the food is amazing. You won't lose no matter what you pick. The mushroom dumplings are great, but small. The steak was great. Honestly not much I didn't like. Our server was very friendly and knowledgeable. This is very boutique like and the food is trendy. Definitely a good go to for downtown Hamilton.

The nicest stuff ever! So personable, friendly and you can really tell they love what they do. All of the food was extremely fresh and delicious. Cheese Bread: the perfect balance of salt and sweet. The olive oil was amazing. It was extremely rich but not too heavy. Chili beef: this was probably my least favourite out of what we got but it's most likely because I'm not the biggest beef fan haha. My dad really enjoyed It. Not spicy if people are worried about that. Mushroom Dumplings: so amazing! Surprisingly, these were my dads favourites out of all we got, and he doesn't even like mushrooms! Grilled Chicken Skewers: these were my personal favourites. The chicken was cooked perfectly and was extremely flavourful. I loved the sauces they had on it, they were overpowering but worked very well with the flavours. Would love to come back!

Mushroom dumplings - my favourite dish on the menu. So spot on.

In my opinion the best restaurant in Hamilton right now. Every dish we had was spot on. Where else can you get dumplings, pasta and tuna crudo all at one spot? Our waiter, who I believe was also the owner, was extremely personable, engaging and passionate. Each item we had was extremely flavourful and satisfying. We were two people and had 4 dishes, 2 desserts and a bottle of wine (probably could have done another main dish). Combination of local and imported wine. This is the kinda place to attract people all the way from Toronto to see Hamilton's emerging food scene. Was so good we came back the next day for brunch. Definitely worth trying!

    Tuna Crudo

One of my favourite restaurants in Hamilton! The Hamilton food scene has been up and coming in the last few years and Berkeley North is definitely solid joint. From it's tasteful menu to its awesome bar rail, it's no surprise I keep coming back. I've come here with my husband for date night and brought along out of town friends who all loved the atmosphere, food and drinks. Can't wait to book my next meal here!

Most placed I'd been to had small selections of their own beer, but to me you have to really diversity to get to that 50 plateau and I was right. 50+ beers from all over (even back home). Steady changing selections of all craft, some local, but as varied as anyone can get around here. It's dark, small, warm, cozy, inviting, but ultimately weird. Hipster AF. I was glad to see some classic cocktails on the menu which I also tried, but there is a weird bottle neck at the chalkboard as it narrows to the bar opening which makes ordering just awkward if the bar itself isn't open. They do an interesting thing asking for your name instead of tabbing you via a card to hold, but that also doesn't seem to be a Canadian thing like it is back in the States. My pisco sour was excellent, fresh juice, fresh egg white, well shaken, though I'm more a fan of metal on metal and I'm starting to think kold-draft is a luxury as many places simply don't have it. Kold draft or even 2+ inch molded ice has a very unique clang that I like. Ultimately bad if your shaking with glass though. My friends had a few lagers and ales which Hamilton is more known for than IPA's. We sat at the back where it was quite and we could hear ourselves instead of shouting over people. They have board games which I imagine is great fun and even a back patio which I imagine goes off in the summer. The staff are friendly and pretty knowledgeable, but I'd have like to seem a little more eye in the sky control, in that regard it's more barista than bar. On any given night here you'll hear conversations of beard oil, compost, prius', and other hipster topics. It's quietly romantic and dark so no one will bother you whatever your opinions are. If a Portland hipster mated with a San Francisco hipster, The Brain would be their baby.

The advertised beer special was not available, sold out, but the waitress allowed a substitution. Ordered the steak n guinness pie and was surprised that it was indeed a meat pie, not just stew topped with pastry. Disappointed that there was no steak n kidney pie. Food order was also taken quickly and took a super long time to arrive. Servers shift was done, we paid and were told a new server would be taking care of us. That never happened. The location is really cool, as the restaurant sits on a street closed off to cars, which meant there's plenty of space for outdoor tables. And a parking lot across the road meant that leaving the car wasn't an issue at all. Anyway, we snagged a nice table outside and placed our orders. But before our mains came, we were presented with a complimentary amuse bouche of two small biscuits with marmalade. They were delicious. Hot and fresh, they didn't have that dense taste that can sometimes plague biscuits. And the jam was terrific, too. For my main, I went with the Chorizo Huevos Ranchero ("House Chorizo | Smashed Avocado | Sunny-Side Eggs | Smoky Black Bean Ranchero | Corn Tortillas"). I've always been a huge huevos rancheros fan and this dish certainly lived up to my expectations. All the components work really well together, and I could tell that it had been assembled with care. There's nothing more annoying than a dish that's clearly been thrown together and phoned in. (I suppose if I had to make an extremely small critical suggestion, the dish could've used some kind of acid to cut through the uniformly heavy components. The whole thing is very rich and I do feel like it could've been improved by some brightness.) All in all, I loved my experience at Undefined. I could definitely see myself driving from Etobicoke just to stop into this joint.
