I almost gave it a 3 because the food wasn't amazing BUT the honey hot lime sauce was so good and the menu was creative. Pub food with a twice. Duck wings instead of chicken (nice sauces but weren't very tender). They had a nice selection of local beers (collective arts yyeeesss) Service was good and the venue was fun. Loved the decor. Great place for a pint and a bite to tide you over

Love the vibe at this little place! Took my older children here and they enjoyed the space too! Drinks were great, food enjoyable and the server took great care of us. We would come back for sure!

Came here for an early dinner after hiking around Hamilton. Parking: Street parking and very limited, it's best to find parking a little further away and walk as there are municipal parking lots in the area. The menu: you have multiple options from beef, grilled chicken, fried chicken or vegetarian patties which can be chosen after choosing the type of burger toppings. The burgers are preset toppings from Gruyere cheese, bacon, blue cheese and more. In addition to the topping and meats, you can choose gluten free bun or the standard burger bun. If you're not a burger person, the menu also offers a few other chooses for entries from fish and chips, tacos and large salads. The appetizers available are poutine, duck wings, coconut shrimp, fried pickles and clam strips. I got the sweet cheezus with fried chicken. The fried chicken was super moist and juicy. The cheese filling on the burger was oozing out. All burgers come with a pickle on top. The fries that come with the burgers are super delicious as well. They are crispy and crunchy at the same time without being overly greasy. For the drink menu, they provide you with a list of alcoholic drinks whereas the craft beer menu is listed on the wall. The craft beers rotate to provide different options depending on the season in which you visit. The restaurant is very ship themed. You can find a lot of ship paraphernalia decorated all along the walls. In addition to boat paraphernalia, they do have tons of awesome paintings hung up as well. The washroom is located on the upper level. They are quite small in general. The restaurant overall isn't large but can fit a decent number of people. Additional seating is located upstairs and in the warmer months, they do have a beautiful patio in the front and back of the restaurant.

Aporkalypse Now - 3 strips of bacon, chunky double smoked bacon, cheddar, smoked provolone, and horseradish mayo

This has been my long time favourite burger place! I discovered it during my undergrad and years after graduating I still find myself coming back here for their burgers. What I find unique is that you can choose to have any of their burgers with either a beef patty, buttermilk fried chicken, grilled chicken breast, or a quinoa black bean patty. My favourite is the buttermilk fried chicken. The outside is crispy and crunchy while the inside and perfectly moist. This time I decided to try the 8oz beef patty with my burger. I ordered the 'Aporkalypse Now' (3 strips of bacon, chunky double smoked bacon, cheddar, smoked provolone, and horseradish mayo). The burger as a whole was delicious but the beef patty was a tad overcooked. They have a variety of craft beers on tap and in bottles. There are a few sours, which I appreciate as a lover of sour beer. They also offer cocktails and wine. The restaurant itself has a nice, cozy, chill vibe. The decor does have a old wooden ship feel to it. When you first step in, it seems a little small but there is seating in the first and second floor and a nice patio in the back. The servers were incredibly friendly and helpful. The food, however, did take a while to arrive, despite it being a quiet afternoon. Parking can be a bit tricky as with most places in Hamilton. There is street parking but that usually costs money. I have been able to find parking at the small parking lot just down the street without any issues.

The Cat 'N' Fiddle - Cool little place... Live music and great pub food

Stopped in because the patio looked inviting after an afternoon of walking the neighbourhood…read morerunning errands. The advertised beer special was not available, sold out, but the waitress allowed a substitution. Ordered the steak n guinness pie and was surprised that it was indeed a meat pie, not just stew topped with pastry. Disappointed that there was no steak n kidney pie. The meat pie was typical pub grub. Not a lot of choice for someone that's lactose intolerant. Bathroom was clean, the staff were friendly and efficient. I stayed on the patio except to use the bathroom. Reasonably priced, would visit again if in the area.

Had some time to kill before a show so decided to check it out. Cool little place, felt comfy and friendly with what seemed like regulars occupying the bar area. Server was friendly, a lovely young lady singing, and our drink order was taken promptly. Then it got weird. Beers took a super long time to arrive even though the bar wasn't too busy. Food order was also taken quickly and took a super long time to arrive. Servers shift was done, we paid and were told a new server would be taking care of us. That never happened. As our glasses sat empty, the Mr. went up to the bar to grab another round. For some strange reason 2 beers at the bar were almost $2 more than what we just paid. That's not cool. The nachos were really good (although $4 for the very tiny side of chili was overpriced) beer was cold, but the service was disappointing. For that reason I'm not sure if I will be returning.

I wanted to be by the fire and they accommodated me. I ordered a coffee, and mild barbeque buffalo wings. It came with french fries, gravy, blue cheese, and carrots and celery. I waited about 15 minutes, maybe 20 and my order came out. The waitress was so nice and polite. The coffee was amazing, because I have so much bad coffee when I go out, it stood out for me. The chicken wings were big and very meaty. The sauce was really good. The french fries were skin on, but not wedges. The gravy was very good and the blue cheese dressing was mild. The waitress came to check in on me three times while I was there and was pleasant each time and I was very happy with the service. The establishment was clean. Everyone seemed to be very busy. It was a very pleasant lunch. My lunch including the coffees and 20% tip was $23 . I would definitely come here again.

Sadly, after reading so many good things about Ye Olde Squire on Fennell we hit a really bad experience when we decided to try it. We went for the last Stanley Cup hockey game and even reserved because we thought that it would be great. The food was good but the service was unacceptable. I ordered a Virgin Mary because I do not consume fish, and when I flagged the server down because something tasted off, I asked her to check what juice it was. 20 minutes later, at least, I had to flag her down again. She said that she was so busy that she hadn't checked. When I went to the Bar the bartender said it was a Caesar. We had mentioned we had stressed that I did not eat fish products, and the Bartender's reaction was most uncaring. Her only response was that she could remake it for me, and it was said in a way that I told her to just take it off the bill. She told me that she wasn't sure that they would do that and that I had to get approval from the manager, (who was the server) and brushed me away. She apologized and stressed that she had order it correctly and that the Bartender had made the mistake. I stressed how dangerous this could be if people had allergies. She gave a one word 'sorry' several times, in a manner that did not impress me. She took it off the bill, but the accidental plugged an extra $20 onto the bill. Again, one word 'sorry'. I left a message for the Restaurant manager to phone (who was off for 2 days and to his benefit called me back). He seemed sincere and asked for two days to get back to me so that he could talk to these two ladies. Now it's way past that deadline and there is no phone call. I never write a negative review without giving the manager an opportunity to make things right. AVOID SQUIRES if you have any food sensitivities, allergies or preferences. For us it could be bad, for others dangerous.

Our first stop took us to Tiffany Falls, one of many in the Hamilton area. The water flow at this time of the year is fairly low but still beautiful. Our next stop was the nearby Sherman Falls, one of my favourites. This one has more flow and is more shaded. I could relax here all day. After consulting our online apps, we stopped for lunch at The Fool & Flagon pub. Our light meal consisted of a Scotch Egg, French Onion Soup, Fish & Chips, and Shepherd's Pie. The food and service were all pretty good, with generous portions. The Scotch Egg was perfectly cooked, with a nice runny yolk and crispy crust. The French Onion Soup was topped with lots of gooey cheese. The Fish 'n' Chips was ordered with two pieces of fish for sharing. It was also quite nicely done and came with a generous amount of tartar sauce, which is rare. The Shepherd's Pie was very good, perhaps one of the best I've had from a restaurant! With could food and good service, I would definitely come back to this place!

The food was fresh and I said at the time that it was some of the best pub food I had ever had. We turned into regulars and came back very often; usually a few times a week. In the past few months something has changed. The portions seem smaller and the food just isn't hot or well prepared. This has been our experience on our last three visits. The last time we were there we had food taken off our bill because it was really that unsatisfactory. Tonight I had the Sante Fe chicken dinner which is freshly battered and fried chicken breast tenders. The chicken was barely luke warm when it got to me and the portion was probably half of what it had been. The chicken was not crispy on the outside (like it had been in the past when we first started coming there) and there was very little buffalo sauce. The strange thing about this is the last time we went in the exact situation happened and the chicken had to be sent back. The last time they made fresh chicken, this time it tasted like it had been microwaved and sauce splashed on it. We are actually quite upset that we have had so many negative experiences here in the last few months because this really was our favourite local restaurant. We likely will not be back. Something has changed here and in my opinion if it isn't rectified they will lose other regular customers.
