This spot had such good vibes. We went on a weekday night and it was super busy, but in the best way. They have really good drinks and the music and lighting are so cute. The place has a rustic but modern vibe. We got a bunch of tapas to share and everything was delicious. Service was amazing too and they were very attentive. Ambiance and everything was great. I am a business traveler and often ask to sit at the bar and am alone. After asking to sit at the bar I was seated at the side bar where nobody was and told there is more room. There was a seat at the main bar available. No big deal but took a bit for one of the bartenders to come over, granted it was kind of busy. Received my drink and then waited to place my food order. As I was waiting for my food the bar I was sitting at was a dumping station for plates and glassware to ease clearing tables. My food came (the cod) and was warm at best. Could have been amazing but the potatoes were nearly room temperature. I had finished my first drink (mind you a gin & tonic) and took awhile to get another. My empty glass was left and then finished my meal. It took nearly 10 minutes for my plate to be cleared and the empty glass stayed there. Felt like an inconvenience to get my check and pay. Omg. We're back again! I will come to this restaurant every time I'm in Oakville. It seriously is *that* good! You can't go wrong with anything on the menu and it's a great place to go with a group to share items. The service is friendly, and they don't rush you. All the food has an attention to details, and seriously, everything is delicious. We tried driving to Toronto from Hamilton to meet friends for dinner but the traffic was so bad, over 2 hours at that point, so we gave up and pulled off the highway. This place had good reviews and was on our route home. What a delight! We ate outside which was lovely near the water. Food was great! We ordered the poke spoons, dumplings, mussels, fried chicken boa and one extra so we each got 2! Everything was delicious and we loved the poke spoons and the sliders the most. The poke spoons were so fun and the crispy rice texture mix with the tuna is 10/10 yum! The sliders were cooked to perfection with fresh buns. We'll definitely be back to try the pizza which looked equally delicious. The vibes inside and outside were cool- good music, nice staff, booked up happening place. I was great fun to get a table after a short wait. The menu has so many things to choose from there's something for everyone. Drinks were on point and well priced. Service was excellent. I was expecting the usual grub, but they have an interesting menu here. Show me some skin was good. The honey cut the oil. Reuben egg rolls were good, with a good mix of flavours. Short rib yorkies were decent. There was horseradish so the dish was a bit sharp. The gravy was a bit lacklustre. Take a bao was decent. I think the flavour combination was not that good. The spicy & sour notes were a bit strong. The KFC sauce was quite strong & overpowered other bits of the dish. Tijuana nachos were good. Big Bird pizza was pretty good, with a thin crust. read more

Went here for lunch with my sister and brother-in-law, the latter of whom is anaphylactic to peanuts and soy protein. The waitress was amazing and checked all the dishes, which I'm happy to report my brother-in-law was able to eat. He was delighted by stuff like the Bao buns as soy protein is often found in Chinese and Korean foods so this was the first time since he developed his allergy almost 2 decades ago that he was able to have those flavours again. And thankfully Plank does those flavours well. Everything we had was good. The price may seem a little up there but between the quantity and quality of the dish, I was more than happy paying what I did. Smokey in a good way, but know that you are going to smell like food. Besides that, it's still a very cool restaurant. Very chill and we love the vibe. Service - Our server was fantastic. She was spot on with all of her recommendations regarding the food and drinks. I love how they are attentive to all tables, not just their own. All of the staff demonstrated the 3P's (Polite, Prompt & Professional).  Food - We got the Reuben Egg: Corned beef, sauerkraut, Swiss cheese, thousand islands for dipping. Duck Poutine: Slow-braised Ontario duck, foie gras gravy, Quebec cheese curds, house-cut fries. Glory Bowl: Marinated chicken, red rice, charred broccolini, spiced roasted sweet potato, cotija, avocado, chimichurri, and we got the Pork Belly. The food is freaking delicious. You really cannot go wrong with anything that you decide. I will order the Rueben, Poutine, and Sliders next time. I think Poutine will always be a staple for us.  One of us doesn't even like Reubens, and they still ate the egg rolls. Additionally, they don't like foie gras either, and still ate poutine and said let's that they would get that again! The glory bowl had great flavors that blended so well with one another. We said we would try and replicate that at home so that we could add it to the dinner rotation. Very large portions for a tapas style restaurant! I was impressed by the portion sizes, which could have been shared between two or three people on some of their menu items. We ordered the margaritaville pizza, cauliflower fritters, the big mack, and the house sliders shared between two people with some leftovers that we ended up taking home. Came here to celebrate my (2nd lockdown) birthday before Doug Ford shut the province down! Loved how they have a machine like a photo booth minus the booth that seem to take a picture but instead takes your temperature. They have a QR code you scan to fill up info for contact tracing! Very well done! Guess they can also eliminate menus as well if they are gonna go full throttle! A very delicious looking menu! I wanted to try so many things but settled for duck tacos which was delicious. Def gonna try the duck poutine next time! The cocktails were also very interesting! Looking forward to coming back. A pleasant surprise! I'm always weary of restaurants, bars, or any other type of business in a touristy/heavily populated area. A coupla weeks ago, I walked by this place, noticed the nicely set-up patios that were FULL of patrons enjoying outdoor dining. And I just assumed that the food was average/mediocre. However, after reading the reviews, I read the opposite was true. When I finally got to dine here, I was told there would be a wait, so we walked around the marina. Wait was much quicker than quoted. We were seated in the smaller patio facing the water. Service was friendly, unpretentious. There were a few items off the menu that weren't available. There was a bit of a delay in between the first and the rest of the dishes, but no big deal cuz we had our drinks. Food was solid, atmosphere was great! Another surprise? Prices were crazy expensive, most shareable items were under $20. read more

I was famished and got out of the highway and found this town Oakville with a picturesque Fisherman's Wharf, and on Bronte Street a block of shops and eateries. Plank has "American Tapas" written on the window, I was intrigued and went in. The Menu has plenty of choices from Seafood, Meat, Vegetarian dishes. I could not resist the Pizza Margarita. Came with enough basil and I was asked if I wanted seasoning (heat). I wanted Oregano & Garlic. The young woman brought me a Chimichurri sauce that complimented it very well. Good choice! A nice glass of Ginger Ale to round up the lunch. The staff very friendly and prompt service. Off I went back to the road, happy and not hungry. read more

Tried Brunch for the first time and my Wife and I were very happy with the new items. We tried the chicken and waffles along with the corned beef. Would recommend getting the aioli on the side for the corned beef. It was good but, was too sweet having it all over the meal. Small point of criticism on the Service... had to ask multiple times for the bill and had to end up going to the bar to speed up the process. Server was not busy. Plank Resto Bar is tucked away by the lake in the Bronte Village area of Oakville. It's unique interior decor is something to write about because it feels very classy cottage-y even though we are hours from Muskoka. They describe themselves as 'casual comfort food' but I would personally add 'upscale' here because the menu items and ingredients are pure class. This is definitely a place where shareable's thrive because it's difficult to choose one thing without having fomo for whatever the person next to you had ordered! I want to shoutout the duck poutine, because it is an item that has been on the menu since I first visited plank years ago. As it should remain - it's amazing. Hot Tip: make a reservation! Especially in the winter (when we can go to restaurants again) The entry way is quite small so when there is a line or a lot of people waiting for tables, it can be crowded and you may have to wait outside! We went as a group of 4 people and decided to do small plate options. We started with 6 choices and the timing was perfect. We added 2 more choices - all from the small plate section and it was the perfect amount of food. Our favorites were the flatbread/pizzas (Ricotta flatbread, arugula prosciutto pizza and the wagon wheel). To begin with I absolutely love and adore their menu and food they offer here.Its an amazing mix from dim sums to pizzas to their exquisite appetizers. All together I have been here three times and each time the food just blew my palettes away!Every dish is unique and prepared with flavor and is oozing of good taste. Their calamari is to die for-they are chunks of squid lightly battered and fried and their calamari is probably the only one that I have had which is soft and juicy generally they are a bit tough and not so juicy, there's a trick they do with cooking it.I have yet to have better calamari elsewhere and I have had it at many places in different cities. Next coming on to their duck poutine.It is perfectly doused in gravy and cheese and lots of duck meat-the dish is slightly salty but full of flavor. Dim sums are standard quality and very fresh tasting.They also have a dim sum happy hour on weekdays. Ok now shrimp tempura is prolly the main reason I come to this place.These a good size shrimps with sticks on them.They are lightly battered and melt in the mouth.I would rate it a full 10.Its a must try. In general the service can be very average since this place is always packed at all times but that's no excuse.If the restaurant knows they are so busy they must hire more employees for customers to enjoy a better dining experience. read more

We sat outside, no reservation though mid September at 8:30 pm on a Friday night probably isn't their busiest time. Waitress and her trainee were outstanding. Knowledgeable, friendly, attentive but not intrusive. Tried several drinks which we both enjoyed. She loved the "pink" one (gin). Out of the Blanton's I ordered but I was ok with an alternative. We did 4 apps (2 people) and ate most of it. Tuna poke was excellent - our favorite.. Risotto balls were good too, but as soon as the sauce said "Big Mac" to my brain, I couldn't taste anything else. I really want to like Plank Restobar. Great location, right by the the Lake. Love the deco: clean and rustic. Service is wonderful. Great selection of Bourbon and Bourbon cocktails. The food though was kind of Meh. But by the time I wrote this review, they would have a brand new menu. Hopefully for the better! We shared: Fried Chicken ($9) - the sauce was kind of sweet and sour (10 year old bourbon Habanero orange glaze). but just tasted bland Cauliflower Fritter ($7) - was not good... bland tasting - proves that deep frying things doesn't make it tasty! House Sliders ($8) - the meat were really dry..... D'Italiano Organic tomato sauce, prosciutto, arugula, shaved Parmesan ($16) - not bad, but the pizza itself was kind of soggy Smoked Chicken Tacos ($8) - the best dish for this evening, good smokey flavour I might give Plank another try if I am in the area. Plank is a great restaurant. I've visited twice and both times the food was delicious. Highlights have been the Mac and Cheese and they somehow found a way to make brussels sprouts delicious. Service is great and friendly. Warning me about parking in the wrong lot to avoid getting towed was appreciated. Ambiance is great and chill. The restaurant is busy but never seems too loud. Maybe my only issue was being sat right in front of the washrooms the first time I visited but not a deal breaker. Definitely a place to visit if you're in the area. read more

I've been here couple of times recently. I've been usually quite impressed with the food although the service was poor in both times. On my first time, the service was slow and our orders came in different times - we were a table of five, and some of us were already finished while others were still waiting for their food. Not good. On my second time the service was even worse. It was just two of us and we ordered four appetizers. First we received something we did not even order after like 20 min. It was cauliflower fritters ( not a fan, way too greasy and lacks flavor). Our fish tacos came afterwards. Our calamari never came and when we asked about it like half an hour later our server told us that they did not have calamari. We also never received our fourth appetizer. The shishito peppers were actually quite tasty. It was overall not a pleasant experience. Most food came to table late so they were almost cold or not crispy at all. Cauliflower fritters were saggy and very greasy. Fish tacos were not bad. The drinks were okay but nothing too fancy. I guess it is a unique place regarding the beautiful outdoor view. Yes, we're in the middle of a pandemic, but restaurants that only allow 1.5 hours for dinner and drinks is defeating the purpose of bringing people back. It's a terrible marketing strategy and if this is Plank's permanent marketing efforts, I won't be returning, even though the food was good. When we noticed the patio was 80% empty and asked to sit on the patio, the hostess wasn't very pleasant -- perhaps not her fault due to the chaos with servers hovering over her while she's trying to help people coming in. If you want a leisure afternoon on a patio overlooking the water, don't come here -- find a resto without so many restrictions. read more

I came here on a Friday night around 7:30pm. They don't take reservations around this time, it's first come, first serve. Ambience - the place is located in the heart of Oakville lakeshore, by the beautiful lake. Great location for a summer stroll before or after dinner. It's is a good size restaurant, with a very rustic and woody's feel to it, but done in a fun and modern way with dim lighting. Service - my bf and I had great service the whole night. Although the place was jam packed, we only waited about 10-15 minutes for a table. One detail I really like about Plank is how the hostess seated us immediately once a table was free. She asked us beforehand if we mind sitting in the back of the resto, and it was a 6 person table for two people. Usually, restos reserve larger tables for larger groups and make you wait until a 2-4 person table opens up. Our waitress was very friendly and came by 1-2 times during the meal to ask how everything was. All the food came out at a good pace too. Food - the food is great! I definitely recommend! We had the duck poutine, big bird pizza and sliders. Everything was delicious, great temperature and good portions. The poutine was delicious and the cheese was super stringy (how you know they make poutine right!). I wish the poutine had a tad bit more gravy, but since the fries are thin, it was okay because it didn't absorb too much of the sauce. The sliders were super moist and juicy and the pizza was very flavourful! My bf and I really enjoyed all the dishes we had and would definitely order it again! Recommendation - I highly recommend Plank for a casual night out with friends or for a date. It's not too noisy or quiet, and has a good amount of liveliness for a Friday night out. I loved the feel of Plank, with wood planks covering every inch of the walls, tastefully placed art alongside a giant wood framed mirror, mismatched, retro wooden chairs, tea lights inside mason jars aglow at each table, and menus presented on planks of wood. If all I was looking for was a place that welcomed me with its charm from the moment I walked in, this would be it. While service was great, they didn't have their only soup item prepped for the evening, so I had to order something else to go with my shortrib Yorkers. I decided to split a baked Mac & cheese with a friend. It was good, but I like my Mac and cheese without the frills, so I would have preferred they not put bacon in it. In addition, despite the bacon, it lacked salt. The yorkies were ok (though my friend, who also ordered them, said she LOVED them and can't wait to order them again), but there was too much fat left on the rib meat, and my husband's Yorkshire pudding is better. There was also a strong red wine flavor, which was a bit overpowering, in my opinion. Our server did a fantastic job, and was a little embarrassed when he went to offer us after- dinner coffee, when he realized nobody had made the coffee yet (it was after 6 p.m.!). The music was absolutely BLARING (needs caps because that's how loud it was), making conversation difficult to impossible. As if that wasn't bad enough, they were playing Lynnard Skynard and other similar artists that I avoid like the plague. Because of the acoustics in the room, the volume of the conversation without the music was already louder than most pubs I've been in. When the volume of the music was turned up, I finally gave up on talking because I couldn't hear anything my friends said in reply, and I'm sure they tired of me asking, "What?" repeatedly. No soup, no coffee, fatty meat, less than flavorful Mac & cheese, and blaring music trump great service and charming decorations. I doubt I'll return. read more
