I love tapas food so naturally we had to make our way to visit Barra Fionn. When you first get to the strip mall, it feels a bit old but once you enter the restaurant the atmosphere is completely different. You have the option of sitting on bar stools on high tables at the front near the bar or you can sit at the back at the low tables. We originally came here for Summerlicious but after seeing the price points and options on the regular menu we opted to order a few things off the regular menu instead, along with 2 glasses of wine (fyi it ended up coming to the same price as Summerlicious so I recommend doing this option instead). We ordered cassava fries, calamari, sliders topped with quail egg and a cheese plate to end the night. I was disappointed by the cheese plate because of the size of the cheese. But everything else was amazing. I was super surprised by the cassava fries and I highly recommend it when you come to visit!

I really wanted to LOVE this place based on all the great reviews, but a solid 3* is the best we can do. My husband and I came here Friday for brunch and the patio is quite adorable. Lots of regulars here and all the waitstaff were all in PPE (yay)! It was a bit confusing to get seated because we weren't sure if we were supposed to wait by the patio or inside, so we awkwardly stood around until someone took pity on us and seated us. We ordered the mix grill, mushroom paella, and churros for dessert. The mix grill was AMAZING and everything was cooked great, especially the potatoes that came with it. So crispy and I could've probably eaten 5 portions of it on my own. The mushroom paella however, was such a disappointment. It came served in a plate with a bunch of uncooked enoki mushrooms and didn't have any of the delicious bite of any paella I've ever eaten. Kind of a bummer in that regard, but still an enjoyable meal nonetheless! Would come back to try their other tapas dishes, but please serve paella in a paella pan!

In a weird shaped strip mall with a McD's and a Food Basics.

Really, really close to 5*s! My rating just can't be perfect because paella flavour wasn't quite there. For anyone who's been to Spain - or wants to go - this place is a complete treat! Sure, it's not as cheap, but there's no doubt that food is GOOD. Service is also very good, laid-back. I purposely chose this restaurant because I prefer less crowded restaurants - so headed here for a bday meal as opposed to going East into Toronto! It was basically the same distance as my other TO option, shorter commute, plenty of parking, and prices aren't super inflated. We had: Tomato/Beetroot/Burrata/ Salad - $9.50, Patatas Bravas - $7, Mixed Grill - $26, Exotic Forest Mushroom Paella - $18.50, Almond & Chocolate Espresso Cakes - $12, plus Red Sangria - $6 (Tappy Hour!!!), and a Latté - $4. Out of that list, highlights were definitely the Mixed Grill & Sangria! Salad + Patatas Bravas were also very good. The weakest was the Paella. It wasn't bad per se, I could taste the saffron, but I don't think they used bomba rice and there was a bit of a sour taste. Plus, it's not presented as it is in Spain, i.e. flat in a paella pan. Whomever was on the grill definitely knows how to cook meat as it was well marinated, cooked through, yet moist! Good food/service, casual, bar-y service, with much, much better value than Spanish restos in TO.

I went to Barra Fion on Valentine's day with my wife. Nice vibe with live music. First time had a paella in Canada. Grilled sqiud with octupus was the best dish among the three we had. We would like to go back to just have that.

Cute little ecclectic bar in a strip mall that served up Spanish tapas, but also had some live country music playing in the background. The wait staff were friendly and the place was pretty empty on a Friday night. We shared the blistered shishitos ( spicy!), The calamari and octopus (nicely grilled), the mushroom toast (pretty good and buttery although the mushroom flavor wasn't quite as deep as I was expecting) and the patatas bravas (hot and crispy with a fairly good sauce). We finished with some churros with chocolate and caramel sauce (I think we both liked the caramel sauce more!) That were hot and crispy. Overall a very surprisingly good find, would recommend!

Looking towards the kitchen in this COVID world.

Beyond the food being awesome, I actually felt like I was in an American restaurant. Restaurant service is usually uneventful and blah in Canada but these guys have raised the bar to a new level. Will return for sure.

The place was pretty busy as it was a Sat night. It was a last minute plan to come here so we didn't make a reservations. However the wait wasn't bad as it was just the two of us, we got seated after 20mins We were starving and ordered a few items based on yelp & waitress's suggestions Yucca Fries $7 -------------- I have seen Yucca at groceries stores but never ate it before. So when we saw it on the menu we had to try it!! The taste is similar to potato but the texture is a little bit rougher and drier in a good way. My fiance and I both loved it!! Their homemade tomato sauce goes so well with the fries as well. I cannot wait to go back and eat this again So glad when I tried new things and I actually loved it!! Traditional Paella $24 -------------------- The flavour of the rice is not as good as the Seafood Paella at Patria because the seafood flavour wasn't infused into the rice, tasted mostly like tomato. But the house smoked chicken..omg it was sooo delicious!! It smelled super smokey and the chicken was tender and burst of flavours. Next time I am going to get the paella without seafood because the smoked chicken definitely is the star of this dish (it is $6 cheaper too) Baked Brie ---------- This item is not on their regular menu. I love how when the waitress told us about the specials, she took out an ipad and showed us pictures too! And the food actually look the same as the pictures she showed us oh and I peeked at the next table who ordered the beef, even the pinkness in the middle looks the same as the picture The brie was melty and it goes really well with the sweetness of the figs and almond flakes. However the brie did get cold after a while and lost that gooey texture. But still so yummy So happy to find this gem in Burlington. Now I have another place to bring my friends and family to that is near home. There are still so many things I would like to try from here!

Nice place. It used to be a yoga studio I was told. This space is kind of impressive to the point that is practically out of place. This place looks like it belongs in downtown Burlington, Oakville, Toronto - take your pick. It looks like an establishment that is too upscale to be as affordable as it is and to be sharing a strip mall with Pizza Hut and Food Basics. We went for lunch, lunch in Burlington where we know lunch very well and the plethora of choices within a 10 minute drive. This place is special for Burlington in a sense that these types of places are few and far between but to charge 12 dollars for an entire lunch menu which includes a white or red wine or a local craft beer? This is sort of a steal... The choices are quite a few too, sandwiches, shrimp tacos, flat breads, etc. 12 bucks! I ended up going with Pacific caught salmon and a side salad. The portion size isn't huge but it's a great taste and a nice change for a good value. This is the type of place I'd go to for a CHANGE in what I eat more often. I can only go to McDonald's, A&W, Little Caesar's etc only so often. Break your pattern man, break it. Come here for a 12 dollar lunch at a nice sit down place and feel like you had a 40 dollar lunch. I'm coming back here to change up what I have for next time. It's not every day I will have fish that isn't fried on a Friday for lunch. This place can easily break the fast food habit at almost fast food prices. When we arrived there was maybe 15 people in the restaurant. By the time we left the place was almost at capacity. It seems the good food for good prices has caught on and understandably so. By the way the local beer I ended up with was Nickel Brook's Cause and Effect which is a lower IBU but still hoppy and tasty brew made right here in Burlington.

I looked at the coupons on my desk at work for an idea for lunch and I wasn't too excited about anything, so I did a little digging on the Inet for some inspiration. I came across Barrafion on another website and decided to check out the reviews on Yelp...low and behold..no listing. I decided to scout out this new spanish influenced Tapas concept. Barrafion Tapas and Barrel..located in the upper part of Burlington (Upper Middle and Guelph Line) is roughly 6 weeks old. It is located near the Gator Ted's Sport bar and Grill (who also owns Barrafion) in the stripmall on the corner. Very unassuming from the outside, but warm and inviting on the inside. Chalkboard walls, dark wood accents, warm orange and red colors really lend itself to the Spanish theme. What attracted me here was there Mon-Fri lunch feature which is $12 and it includes a 16oz Local draft beer or a 5oz glass of wine. It seems to a rising trend in the Burlington area to offer a prix fixe lunch menu that includes an alcoholic beverage. An awesome value considering what fast food options that are supposedly a cheaper alternative than a sit down meal. Since I was a single diner, I sat at the bar. A great selection of imported and some local craft beers peppered the draft taps. They also had an eclectic selection of bottled beers as well. The service here was quick and friendly. The menu was explained thoroughly and some very good recommendations for lunch were given. I opted for the 16oz Nickelbrook beer and the Sandwich de cerno asado (Pulled pork sliders with Spanish styled egg on a brioche with Yucca fries topped with a homemade paprika ketchup and garlic aioli). The order was placed and as I waited I enjoyed the vibe of the restaurant. Cool chalk drawings were decorative and informative (features, winelists, beer options) the music was chill and the staff was friendly and talkative. My food arrived pretty quickly and I was impressed with the portion sizes. The pulled pork sliders were very good. The buns were fresh and the pork was moist and tender. The yucca fries were awesome and the homemade ketchup had a excellent kick. If your looking to experience the new prix fixe trend in Burlington which will give you a freshly made meal with a beverage (beer or wine) for $12. I would suggest Barrafion....or you can have the Big Mac combo across the parking lot for $11..just saying..

A Modern Day "Cheers" with a Spanish Tapas Twist The word "Fion" has a number of meanings but the one that perhaps best pertains to Barra Fion is "something representing a group of friends", and that definition certainly fits this social eatery in Burlington. This places is filled with lots of friendly discussions and happy people. Located in a small strip plaza in Burlington, it is difficult to get a sense of what exists inside until you are....well, inside. The smallish store front is easy to miss from a distance but the ambiance, service and food quality are hard to miss once you're inside. You will definitely get that "I must be downtown" feeling. I have always been a big fan of the "tapas" method of dining which consists of a number of small plates for sharing, however Spanish tapas with their love of sausage and other fatty foods can be great or awful, depending on the establishment. Barra Fion has a wide open kitchen at the back and uses very fresh ingredients to create many flavorful dishes ranging from light to heavier fare. The signature dishes include the Smoked Chicken Empanadas, which were excellent and their mussels. The only suggestion for the kitchen would be to use a thinner and less "crispy" piece of bread for the Mushrooms on Toast (trying to cut into it sent half of it flying :-). But everything we ordered was good. The service we received was also warm and friendly. Katia was excellent and was always there when we needed her. We felt her sense of humility and when we asked to sit at a table for four, we were accommodated without attitude (I understand that may have been difficult if we were there earlier) and now the bench by the kitchen would be our favorite spot! We will definitely be going back to Barra Fion and I'm sure I'll be there when I am dining solo, up at the bar. Thanks for a wonderful evening! PS I think you're gonna need a bigger bar!...lol

Before Covid, we loved eating in the restaurant many times. Now we are happy to enjoy takeout . Their food is delicious!! The calamari diablo is spicy and flavourful. Mexican street corn salad is fun and fresh. Mixed grill has plenty of tasty protein. Pulled pork sliders ate a good deal for price. Order and you can't go wrong!

Earl's had been on my radar for awhile, but I was trying to avoid chains. No more. The lychee tini, which includes elderflower and hibiscus, tastes great. Not too sweet, just right. Enjoyable. Variety of ways to enjoy the baked brie. #Canadian Striploin 7oz striploin, garlic herb mashed potatoes, grilled seasonal vegetables: We tried different & great steak dish here before, and this one is also EXCELLENT - the on-point seasonings, perfectly med-rare. Roasted veggies and mashed potato leave its own flavour and texture with right amount of seasonings. #Stuffed Mushroom Ravioli stuffed with wild mushrooms, tossed in a beurre blanc sauce, topped with fresh Parmesan: I wished the ravioli itself had more mushroom-forward flavor, and the wrapper had more delicacy (in terms of thickness and texture). However, I loved the beurre Blanc sauce - it was foamy - making the butter-ly and creamy sauce feel light in the mouth. Nice hint of tangy-ness. #Herb Crusted Salmonwith garlic herb mashed potatoes, grilled seasonal vegetables, and beurre blanc sauce: The same sauce as ravioli, that matched with salmon well.
