The Casbah - Casbah decorated for Halloween- open mic night crowd

The Casbah

There's always something fun happening at The Casbah. Dance parties, bands, open mic nights you…read morename it - this place is rock and roll! Bang on bar, bang on fun with nice staff.

Such fun times here…read more Came here to see Die Mannequin On Friday 29th. Since the below Yelpers have done an awesome job at summarizing the place, I shall continue with only focusing the experience of this particular event. The lounge has a parking lot in the back. If you are driving and the lounge is on your left, keep driving, there's a few businesses with parking lots in the back. It's safe to park there. This spot is a few streets down from Hess Village so around 2am there is a fun amount of drunken folks walking around. There's a few food places open late if you do get hungry. The crowd this night The Casbah was a VERY interesting mix. This is because it's usually friends/family of the band members. So don't come expecting a select type of crowd. Anything goes here. Since I've brought up the subject of interesting and anything goes, what's up with all the one way roads in Hamilton? The main street (Casbah located to your right) is ALL one way, so if you are anything like me (meaning - nil-ch sense of direction) be careful... you will most likely be driving/facing ONTO coming traffic. (true story), Thankfully, the people here are quite nice. They waved to me (after I waved.. thinking *gosh they're so nice here* I realized why. Made an illegal U turn mid street. They guided me and THEN laughed. Just use the "I'm not from these parts sir". Works every time. There's no chairs and the stage is quite tiny. They have about 4-5 bands play before the main band comes on stage. So if you are travelling, don't rush. They do check ID and stamp you. The smokers section is decent. Again, no seats. You will be working out your legs, unless your kind of a weirdo like me and plop right on the corner edge of the stage. I found beer to be a bit pricey here. There's only one bar located right on the far right corner of the venue, as soon as you walk in. I can only assume, this is where they make money. The bathroom is dinky. Small with 4 stalls. 3 of them have broken handles. Guys kinda just waltz in here, drunk or trying to help a girlfriend etc. So, be super careful. Ask a girlfriend to keep watch at your stall door. The best part about this place? - there's only 1 bathroom section in the whole place. Meaning, you WILL bump into band members. It's pretty cool. Caroline Kawa from Die was the coolest chick in the world. She helped me fix my hair and was SO down to earth. Now if I could just get Metric to play here so I could bump into Emily Haines, I'd die a desert happy girl. Even with all the sketch guys who overhear you talking about how hungry you are and respectively INSIST on walking down the street to get you a poutine, gawk at you from tiny dark corners , I still like this place. It's got a bit of a grunge feel to it so you can really dress how you want- venture into GaGa Land for the night? - I THINK SO! If you're into rocking out, you'll end up having a good time. If you're female, you'll have an even funner time trying to hide behind big equipment "helping" the band through the back door. Yes ladies, there IS a back door. No need to fret about creepers. Once you walk into the hall to the bathrooms, it's straight ahead. No alarms so you can push and run out onto a parking lot facing the main street. You can park here so you can get right into your car. They thought of everything. I like that. xoxo M.

Radius - Truffle fries

1 extra star for opening their patio seating on a rare sunny warm day in early March!…read more We came for a pre-concert dinner and the establishment is well-versed in handling the uptake of crowds during this time. We shared the pork entrée for two and ordered an extra side of truffle fries. For a two person entrée, the quantity is on the light side. However, it is just enough if both people are light eaters. Would definitely order an additional dish if you would like a more substantial meal. That being said, the pork was done perfectly, and we really liked the spetzel on the side.

Yes the price is pretty high but I love supporting local (and my bday coincided with the Ontario Big Spend, to help stimulate local buying in COVID). Everything comes out looking absolutely gorgeous on stoneware and fun plating styles that flow right with the atmosphere. The atmosphere is very hipster chic and all the staff is very professional and knowledgeable. Also fantastic COVID protocol and safety while we were there. I think our waiter could have brought a little more energy but he was great overall! Started with some fun drinks and loved that the wine menu was at least half local selection! Came quick as well with pitchers of plain water and sparkling water. Started with calamari and Burrata platter. Calamari was delicious and came with both aioli and seafood sauce with arugula and lemon, loved it! Large pieces and perfectly cooked. The Burrata stole the show with a huge fresh ball over crisp and sweet cantaloupe and prosciutto with hot peppers and delicious fresh basil.... could have definitely ate that whole plate as my dinner. Truffle fries to share: fantastic shoestring cut with Parmesan and truffle with fresh scallions, crispy goodness! Beet salad: beautiful presentation and loaded with gorgeous beets, walnuts, roasted veggies and maple vinaigrette. Good earth power bowl: for the veggie lovers this one has it all! And is also pretty allergen friendly with greens, raw broccoli, vibrant purple cabbage, avocado, grapefruit, roasted crispy chickpeas, pine nuts, nutritional yeast, and toasted coconut flakes with lemon tahini dressing. I enjoyed this fresh and crisp bowl but I think it could have used more zing in the dressing. Pasta Special: thumb print pasta with salty venison sausages, sweet peppers, greens, salt/pepper and cheese. A tad salty but beautiful and fresh! Oysters: fresh and delicious with Parmesan and 3 sauces (hot, seafood, red wine vinegar) Cedar salmon: beautifully grilled cedar planked salmon with so much flavour from the maple bourbon glaze. Came with a tiny portion of veggies but the also a side, we choose the mashed potatoes which WERE DA BOMB! Could just eat those tbh.... Caesar salad: the most gorgeous! I didn't try but came with fresh crisp romaine, Parmesan crisps, crispy pork belly, poached egg, fresh croutons, and a full sardine to top it off! Dessert: no bake raspberry cheesecake, this was complimentary for the bday and we all split it. Delicious raspberry jam on light cheesecake filling with white chocolate and a thick graham crumb. Well done radius! Making local sexy AF!

There are tons of record covers, vintage toys and rock and roll memorabilia - great vibe. In the back is the theatre space with tables for guests so they can drink and dine throughout the show. They've got it down to a science. Wait staff take orders before and during the show and restock drinks and even check you out / close your tab before the show ends. A few of us shared chicken quesadillas and double chicken wings with 2 kinds of sauce which were all very good. They've got made to order cocktails, beer and cider as well as canned cocktails. I heard on amateur night the wings are half off. A few of my friends have taken the classes and really enjoyed them. I've enjoyed seeing them and their classmates nail their class shows. All of the comedians I've seen at Levity have been very funny in they own unique way. The Día de los Muertos show tonight was a beautiful night of music, storytelling, comedy and remembering and honoring our lost loved ones. Edith Chavez hosted and curated the evening. All of the performers and the music was heartfelt and genuine. Looking forward to the next show / event!

Just take the elevator down from your room and walk a carpeted hall to the restaurant. Nicely appointed and attractively staffed as with all Moxies. There are two huge outdoor patios. I ordered the Blackened Mahi Mahi ($32.75). It is from their winter menu. It had just the right amount of spicy. The fish was plentiful and flakes. The entire dish was so delicious I would order it again. It is a Cajun spiced Mahi Mahi, Chorizo sausage & corn hash, buttered mash potatoes, salsacado, chimichurri.and greens. The hash was surprisingly good also. I also had a glass of Coke ($4.25). I wasn't made aware that the Coke was refillable until after I paid. The waiter offered me another glass so I accepted. Service is prompt and courteous. The washrooms are surprisingly modern. There is free WiFi (but the internet seems down when I was there). The restaurant is wheelchair accessible. There are separate male/female washrooms and wheelchair accessible. There is free parking in the private parking lot. Review 2022-124

Most placed I'd been to had small selections of their own beer, but to me you have to really diversity to get to that 50 plateau and I was right. 50+ beers from all over (even back home). Steady changing selections of all craft, some local, but as varied as anyone can get around here. It's dark, small, warm, cozy, inviting, but ultimately weird. Hipster AF. I was glad to see some classic cocktails on the menu which I also tried, but there is a weird bottle neck at the chalkboard as it narrows to the bar opening which makes ordering just awkward if the bar itself isn't open. They do an interesting thing asking for your name instead of tabbing you via a card to hold, but that also doesn't seem to be a Canadian thing like it is back in the States. My pisco sour was excellent, fresh juice, fresh egg white, well shaken, though I'm more a fan of metal on metal and I'm starting to think kold-draft is a luxury as many places simply don't have it. Kold draft or even 2+ inch molded ice has a very unique clang that I like. Ultimately bad if your shaking with glass though. My friends had a few lagers and ales which Hamilton is more known for than IPA's. We sat at the back where it was quite and we could hear ourselves instead of shouting over people. They have board games which I imagine is great fun and even a back patio which I imagine goes off in the summer. The staff are friendly and pretty knowledgeable, but I'd have like to seem a little more eye in the sky control, in that regard it's more barista than bar. On any given night here you'll hear conversations of beard oil, compost, prius', and other hipster topics. It's quietly romantic and dark so no one will bother you whatever your opinions are. If a Portland hipster mated with a San Francisco hipster, The Brain would be their baby.
